But Squee caught it instead. Seemingly popping out of nowhere, she caught the quaffle by the fingertips, and spun around like a ballerina. Speeding off towards the goals, she noticed Hikalyn having to take off after the snitch. She knew that the Hufflepuff team had one last year, and this was the chance to make a comeback.
Praying that nobody would catch up to her, the lone chaser was getting closer to her goal. Throwing the quaffle through the middle hoop she grinned and spun around quickly.
They had to win. Absolutely had to.

Silver grabbed the Quaffle again and, swerving an attack from three Slytherins, all panting and sweating furiously, she headed straight for her goal.
Two second, and...
"WOO YEAH! GO PUFFS!" she shrieked, doing a small victory dance on her broom as the Quaffle gaily flew through the hoop.

Silver had taken the Quaffle and scored a goal, just after Squee had scored. " Another goal for Slytherin and for Hufflepuff! Hufflepuff are still in the lead though! 60 – 50!”

Hikalyn cursed as another goal went in. Hufflepuff was pulling farther ahead of them. They just couldn't let that happen, not in this game.
However, there wasn't a lot she could do about it. She had to find the Snitch before the Huffle Seeker got to it. That was what was going to win them this game; it was just too close.
She kept her eyes peeled, clamping down on the mounting desperation in her gut.

Silver happily punched her fist in the air once again as Hufflepuff scored - it was turning out to be not as bad as she had originally thought.
Watching as a Slytherin Beater almost knocked himself out with his own bat, she smirked and leant forward to grab the hurtling Quaffle. It made her hands smart, but hey, in the end it was all worth it, right?

She grunted in frustration. Speeding toward the quaffle, almost knocking into other players on the way, she beat the others to the quaffle and, clutching the quaffle with a death grip, she sped towards the Hufflepuff goals, a look of determined insanity on her face. A grin like Nnhy, she got closer to the goals.
With the score closing up, once again it depended on the seekers. "Come on Hikalyn." She muttered under her breath. Getting closer she focused on the task at hand.

Silver's frustration was at it's peak. The sweat poured like a river down the back of her robes, and her silver hair was dampened to a stormy grey, stuck to her soaked skin.
Watching as two of her team-mates passed the Quaffle to and fro, she sighed heavily. She was so tired... so very, very tired...

Wyl yelped as his eyes spotting the shining piece of gold. He bent low on his broom and shot toward it, silence settling over the stands. His robes flew madly out behind him and the air pressed his glasses even harder into his face and he stretched out his arm as he neared the Snitch, his heart hammering amazingly fast. He was within centimetres of it, when he commanded his arm to stretch a little further, and he managed to throw some of his body forward, his hand closing around the golden ball. He grinned madly and held it up triumphantly in the air, breathing hard from such a exhilarating broomride. “We won!” he yelled excitedly. “We won!”<br> mgckalhrizn.proboards35.com/index.cgi?board=hogsmeade&action=display&thread=1091942369

The Snitch has been caught. Projecting her voice for the final time, Claire announced the final score. “HUFFLEPUFF HAVE THE SNITCH. THE GAME IS OVER. THE FINAL SCORE IS: SLYTHERIN 50, HUFFLEPUFF 210! ” Claire tilted her broom down to the ground and landed. Her legs touched the ground and wobbled slightly. Standing straight she walked to the exit and to where a bench was.
Sitting, she drank from a bottle and took a deep breath. It had been quite a long game compared to last weeks. A lot more had happened too.
Claire was tired – the game had exhausted her, and all the stuff with Rose was taking every spare minute, so that there was next to no time for sleep. Standing up, she held her broom beside her and waved her wand. A cloud of blue smoke enveloped her. A small breeze revealed that she had gone.

With a scream of delight, Silver watched as Wyl closed his hand around the fluttering Snitch as it struggled desperately to get out of his grasp.
"Oh my God.... Oh my God.... We've won! We've actually won!"
She flew over to Wyl as fast as her tired broom would let her and she leapt off it onto his broom, wrapping her arms around him and laughing, screaming and crying all at the same time.
"You did it! My God you actually did it!" She felt the surge of electric excitement run through the crowd - no, not electric. Magic.

Squee flew to the ground, head bowed in dissappointment. The Snitch had been caught bay a player in canary yellow. She flew back up, congratulated the team, and went to join the Slytherin team.

Hikalyn's hands dropped to her sides. She leaned back on her broom, closing her eyes, hardly caring that she was in danger of falling off.
So close. It had been so close. She had caught the Snitch out of her peripheral vision, but the Hufflepuff Seeker had seen it at the same time, and he had been closer. Her broom might have been faster, because they reached at roughly the same time, but when they both leaned forward, hands straining, only one of them could catch it. He batted her hand away in the last second, coming holding his prize triumphantly in one hand.
Kalyn rallied enough to give him a nod and smile of congratulations. "You played well," she said sincerely, but the words were spoken softly. She wasn't entirely sure if he had heard, and at that point she wasn't much for caring. They had lost, again. To Hufflepuff, again. The fact that the game had been so close only made it worse.
If she had just been a little faster, if she had seen it just a little sooner.... The list in her head went on. She hated playing the "what if" game, but she couldn't help it. Logically, she knew that there was no use pointing fingers far as loosing the game, that really, there was no blame. Both teams had played well; it had been simple chance that had the Snitch glimmering in Wyl's hand, and not her own. And yet, she felt as if it were her fault.

Silver spotted the dejected dark-haired Chaser, and felt the guilt that goes with every victory. This was the part of the game she hated - where the ecstasy wore off and you just felt like you were hurting other people. A kind soul at heart, House Pride or no, she used her wand to call back her broom (which had begun to wander off to the locker room by itself), and flew slowly over to the girl.
"Hey," she said awkwardly. She really didn't know how to say it without making things worse. "Er... I just wanted to say it was a good game. You really kept me on my toes, you know... and I know it was difficult having to switch positions and all that... I guess I just wanted to say that you did a really good job."
Silver smiled hesitantly, her arms folded across her chest uncomfortably.

She noticed her fellow Slytherin looking as though she thought it was her fault. Using the last of her strength, Squee flew up to Hikalyn. She smiled and patted her on the back consolingly "It wasn't your fault you know. Pure luck. We'll get em." Hoping her words were making her feel any better Squee watched as the Hufflepuffs cheered and one had come over. Silver. "You really gave me a run you know."

Hikalyn smiled faintly. "Thanks, I appreciate it." She didn't mean just the compliment, but the fact that the girl had come over at all. She was obviously uncomfortable.
Kalyn gave the girl a friendly clap on the back. "You guys played really well, too. You deserve the win." It was the truth, however much the saying of it stung.
She turned to Squee and grinned. "Thanks. Good playing yourself out there. And thanks for showing up, I really appreciate it." Her grin turned wry. "A few of our dear absent team-mates are going to get the rough side of my tongue tonight."
She turned back to the Huffle Chaser. "I'm Hikalyn, by the way," she added, hoping to dispel some of the awkwardness by introducing herself.
