Professor Merry Divine looked out at all the eager faces (and not so eager ones) and smiled. She was so excited to finally be teaching her first class, she had put a book on each desk in anticipation of this moment. www.freewebs.com/charms1/"Good Morning Class!" she said brightly, hoping her excitement would be infectious. "My name is Professor Merry Divine, and I hope to be your Charms Teacher for quite some time. If anyone has any objections, please see me after class, I'm sure we can work things out." Merry knew from her training that no all the student would like her, but she was darned if she wasn't going to at least Try to get them to like her. "Since I'm not really sure how advanced you all are at this point, we shall be trying the most rudimentary skill first. I speak of course of levitation. You will notice in the back of the class a box of lightweight harmless objects." using her wand as a Teachers pointer, she indicated the box. "I want you each to take a object from the box back to your desks and levitate it for me. Your levels of success will help me to decide on our next lesson. Also please complete the homework assignment in the book and hand it in before next class. If there are no questions, you may proceed." Merry turned to sit down but suddenly stopped and faced the class again. "If anyone would like me to show them the proper 'swish - flick' method, please come up to my desk."

To door opened slowly and Shinjiki entered the classroom. He had fell a sleep again after waking up earlier that morning . He wasn't trying to be late but he was anyway, as always. He saw that the teacher was Merry and smiled at her. Then, he said, "Good morning Merry."
He walked over to a seat dropped his bag and sat down.

"Oh hello Mr. Shinjiki" she said, and was about to go back to work but then stopped.
She had been told to never allow any student to call her by a familiar name, in her finishing school class, or she'd lose respect form the rest of the students. She hated to reprimand her first student but that rule was hammered into her hard.
"Mr. Shinjiki, while we are in the classroom setting I would appreciate it very much if you could call me Professor Divine, Please." she told him. She asked extra politely so he wouldn't walk out of her class or get angry.

Oh boy! A new charms teacher. It was a shame that Professor Billyboro had gone. Maybe the monkeys had got to him after a while... either way, the jungle was gone and a typical classroom the same as every other was in sight.
Charms had always been Hayzie Roberts's favourite subject. They always turned out to be useful for pranks, and therefore it was a subject she paid particular attention in.
That morning, Hayz had turned up fresh faced with her blonde hair tied into two plaits, one on either side of her head. The Prefect's school robes had been magically ironed, and her tie was even done right the way up to her done up top button. Very rare.
Sitting upright and listening to the assignment that had been set, a grin appeared on Hayzie's face. What better way to say hello to a new teacher than to pull a small tiny prank?
Walking to the box on Professor Divine's desk, Hayzie picked out a pure white feather and smiled innocently before returning to her seat. Looking around the class, a small twinkle came into her emerald green eyes as she spied a Slytherin girl sitting on the opposite side of the classroom. After a class a few weeks back, the blonde Prefect knew that she was very ticklish, and used this to her advantage.
"Wingardium Leviosa!" Hayz cast, knowing the spell all too well thanks to her previous experiences. The flick and swish of the wand completed the spell, and the feather flew into the air. Now came the tricky part. Muttering a few words under her breath, the feather began making its way across to the Slytherin girl, who had her hair tied in a similar fashion to Hayzie's. Glacing out of the corner of her eye, and putting her wand down a little so the Professor wouldn't see, the feather began running lightly up and down the other girl's neck, sending her screaming and cringing, before laughing as the motion continued.

Merry jumped when she heard the scream and imediatly turned to see what could have frightened the little Slytherin. But now the girl was laughing. What in the world?
Merry walked over to the little girl and was about to ask her why she'd gone into histerics when she noticed the feather. "Hmmmmmm" she said, but instead of stopping the feather she followed the line of magic back to . . . a young lady who looked like she was doing nothing. Merry walked over and looked the girl in the eye.
"Hello I don't believe we've met." she said. While she said this she held her wand arm at the elbow with her other hand, in a shy but curious posittion, that her Grace Teacher had hated. This alowed her wand to be out of Hayzie's sight while Merry aimed at her sneakers.
"Your one of the gryf-f-in-in-inin Ach-conflo-oo!" she covered her mouth and fake sneazed causing the prankster shoes to melt to the floor. "Oh excuse me! The Gryffindor Prefect, arn't you? Why don't we find somthing challangeing for you to try and levitate, hmm? If you would follow me, please?"

Sylph had dragged herself out of bed extra early that morning to make sure she arrived to class on time. It was charms, and while Sylph was very talented at magic, her charm and tranfiguration work always seemed to go too far. She was very capable, but the gods knew she needed to learn some control.
Arriving at the Charms room, Sylph pushed open the door relieved to find that she wasn't late, and becuase she wasn't the first one to arrive. She shot a discrete grin at Hayzie, who seemed to be enjoying tickling another student with a feather by the use of todays spell. Oh.
Sylph's face fell slightly. Wingardium leviosa was a spell she already knew how to use; she had been hoping for something a little more complecated. Still, all practice was good practice. She took a seat and listened to the teacher's instructions. She seemed nice enough - not too strict but no doubt good at her job. Sylph liked her immediately.
Once Professor Divine had finished talking, Sylph pointed her wand - willow and dragon heart-string - towards the box that had been indicated.
"Wingardium leviosa," she said in a clear voice, her hand performing the standard swish and flick motion. To her surprise, the entire box began to levitate. She grinned slightly and directed it towards her own desk until she had landed it safely. Plucking a paper aeroplane from the box, she lifted her wand once more and sent the box back from whence it came, using the same technique, grinning somewhat sheepishly.
Now I know what to write about, she thought amusedly to herself. 'This spell is useful for preventing unnecessary exercise and thus aiding weight gain in lazy students...'
She decided that she had demonstrated her ability to perform the charm well enough now, and took out her quill and parchment, ready to get a headstart on her homework.

Ashlle had listened to the teacher carefully. Once she was done speaking Ashlle got up and retrieved a small fluffy ball made from what felt like down feathers.
this looks like a cat toy to me she thought, but never the less brought it back to her desk. She opened the book on her desk to the chapter marked and read about the pronunciation for the spell.
"wing-Gar-deeum li-vee-O-sa" she said pointing her wand at the ball. Nothing happened. I better ask the professor about this 'swish-flick' thing thought Ashlle. She looked up to find Professor Divine otherwise occupied and decided to wait till she was through.

Post by Teagan on Jun 8, 2005 21:27:46 GMT
Teagan's red eyes watched the new teacher from her seat. Teagan was wearing a black long-sleeved shirt that had light blue letters saying, "Don't you just want to... drift away?," with a little pale-colored feather falling down behind the words. Her pants were simple pale blue jeans.
The Charms teacher looks pretty cool, thought Teagan as she sat down. She began to observe and study the teacher, like she always did. Soon after Professor Divine--It sounds like a divination teacher's name, though Teagan--began her "new teacher" speech, Teagan finally decided she would enjoy this class. New teachers are always so energetic, she thought. Good thing they're usually the best kinds of teachers. Charms is very helpful. Since Charms was normally her favorite class anyway, it would be hard not to like.
It was a review lesson for Teagan, so she fumbled with a pencil and set in on her desk. Her red hair swung about her as she dug in her bag, and took out a thirteen-and-a-half inch wand. It was supposed to be good for Charms. Lucky for me, she thought. Charms are probably what I use the most. "Wingardium Leviosa," she said perfectly, and raised her pencil in the air. Still using her wand to control it, Teagan carefully stood up and held her hand an inch below it. It fell silently into her grasp as she stopped feeding the spell magic, and the charm ended.
A relaxed smile showed up on Teagan's face as she set the pencil back down on her desk. She gracefully walked over the box in the back of the room... as it began to float away? An annoyed and confused expression tried to make its way on Teagan's face. Hey, I need that! she thought roughly in her mind as she slowly turned around. Her expression was completely calm and curious, as usual, as she looked around to see what was going on.
Teagan's red eyes glanced upon a somewhat embarrassed Sylph. Teagan quickly reached in the floating box and pulled out a piece of cloth before it landed back down.
She quietly walked over by Sylph's desk. Teagan's was two rows to the left of Sylph's, but she didn't need to sit down to preform the simple charm--she'd had a lot of practice. "Hey, Sylph," said Teagan in an happier than usual kind of voice, and, though it was still soft and quiet, it wasn't as emotionless as usual.
Teagan lazily dropped the rag, and used the Levitation Charm on it. She had dropped the discolored cloth half way to the floor before it slowly came to a stop, and she easily lifted it back up. Then, Teagan made it float to the ceiling. As she made it slugishly drift back downward, Teagan easily caught it in her left hand.

Persephone looked around her. She had always been shy, and the people in this class seemed to be a little more than intimidating. She took her seat, her slivery blond hair flowing around her. [I wonder if everyday will be like this... She walked up to the teachers desk and grabbed a feather. The charm was easy, and after a little while lost her attention. She looked around and found herself to be one of the smallest kids in her class. At 5 foot, she couldn't expect much else than to be one of the shortest. After she had re-analyzed the people in the class, she pulled out a quill and got started on her homework.

"I'm going to be so late" Cella muttered to herself. Pulling on baggy jeans and a black tank top, she shoved her feet into her faded boots. Sticking her wand behind her ear, she grabbed her bag and ran out of the common room. Glancing at her wrist watch, she took the stairs two at a time. Skidding to a halt in front of her Charms class, Cella hurried inside muttering a "Sorry I'm late, Professor." Looking around the class, she saw objects being levitated into the air. Walking over to the box she pulled out a small velvet pillow, and walked to an empty desk. Putting down her bag she took a seat, and pulled out a piece of parchment and quill placing them on top of the text book. Taking her wand in hand, Cella pointed it at the pillow. With a swish and flick she said "Wingardium Leviosa."The pillow floated into the air easily. Keeping her wand in her left hand, she began writing her homework down using her right hand. Absentmindedly she moved her wand in a circular fashion as she wrote, the pillow spinning in the same way. Marcella Lovegood Tonks Ravenclaw Charms Lesson 1- Wingardium Leviosa
Wingardium Leviosa, one of the simplest spells used for levitation, is a very handy spell for everyday life. For one, being barely over five feet tall, this spell is quite useful when needing to place an object up high. Or when decorating a christmas tree. Vertically challenged people use this spell very often (I know from personal experience).
Another good use of this spell is to send your opponent in an attack (or his/her weapon) floating into the air. An example being when Ronald Weasley disarmed a troll of his weapon and hit him over the head with it using 'Wingardium Leviosa'. Though it is a simple spell, it can help during an attack/ duel/ fight.
A third use, and likely the most used in the school, is for pranks. Levitating a water balloon in the air and letting it drop when someone crosses under it. Levitating food during a food fight. And various other pranks.[/i] The scratching of the quill stopped, as dark eyes scanned the page. Deciding it was the best she could do with her stressed and sleep-less mind. Flicking her wrist she sent the pillow flying back into the box, and tucked the wand back behind her ear. Placing her quill carefully next to the paper, she looked around the classroom to see how every one else was doing. Very nice Miss Lovegood-Tonks. Full credit (=10 Points) Sounds like you also have a bit of exspiriance in the pranking department as well as the lack-of-height department. *wink*

Morgan stepped into the door of the charms classroom, noting the book and the students doing the levitation charm. Hmm, childs play. Morgan could produce a full patronus, corporeal and have it stay for longer than a minute. But then, she had been practicing sine she was three. Gotta watch those Dementors. She smirked and pulled her 12 1/4 inch holly and pheonix fetaher wand out of her pocket.
"Wingardium leviosa." Her wand made a nice wooshing sound and her book rose into the air, zooming around the head of a very arrogant blonde boy. She smirked and let the book drop back on her desk. "Cake." She said smirking. Her heels clicked against the floor, and she took out a black rock the shaped of a heart and levatated it out the window, soaring over the turetts of the castle, before jerking her wand back, and felt the smooth rock in the palm of her hand.
She stuck the rock back into the box, gave Miss Divine a genuine smile, and sat next to the boy who wasstill rather disgurntled abou the book. "Hey there Chief." she said slowly, picking up his charms book and leafing through it nonchalantly, wondering when they were going to do patronus charms. "How ya doin? Anyway, enough of the niceties. I'm Mo."

He looked up at Merry and replyed, "Sorry ma'am. Good Morning Professor Divine!" He stood up a gave a bow. He wanted to call her Merry but he would respect her wish, for once.
As he sat back down a book wooshed by his head. He jumped out of his seat and flopped on the ground. When he got back up to his seat he was infuriatied. THe girl that his nearly took his head off came and sat next to him.
Shinjiki glared at the girl and said, "Dont, call me cheif" He grabed his book back and smugly said, "The name is Satu Shinjiki....not cheif"

[glow=purple,2,300]Dovie stepped inside, slightly late, but hoped Profesor Divine wouldn't be too upset. Her mocassins scritched slightly against the floor as she walked up to the Professor's desk, gave a small smile, and spoke gently. "Sorry I'm late, I got caught up in a conversation. Please forgive me." Dovie bowed slightly and scuttled off to find a seat in the front of the classroom. Wingardium leviosa...Well, she did say she'd need to test everyone... Dovie thought to herself as she performed the spell in a simple fashion; she didn't like dramatics and flourishing, extravagant shows of skill, like smeone was doing right now with a stone heart. She followed it with her eyes and saw... Morgan... Dovie thought in a mix of anger, hurt, and regret. Dont' see how I couldn't have seen it before.. Dovie frowned slightly and returned to face the board. She pulled out her quill and some parchment and began to write, but stopped when hse heard Morgan speaking. Chief...she must really be trying to push my buttons, she knows I despise when people use such a term loosely..Ugh! Dovie growled under her breath, a scowl on her face, and tried her best to ignore it and went back to writing.[/glow]

Merry had walked away from the Gryffindor Prefect but she hadn't followed her, because of her sneakers. After waiting a moment, she shrugged and got back to the rest of her class.
After observing for a moment -and clearly seeing almost all the student were not on a first year level- she acknowledge the students who'd just come in.
"Late is only when you don't have any time left to do the work, Miss Cella. Thank you, Mr. Shinjiki, I really do appreciate it. Miss Voltaire, if you are going to be levitating your books, and things that are not soft, please be extra careful with them, thank you."
The she spotted Ashlle having trouble, and came over to help. "What seems to be the problem Miss Rainier? I'm sure I can help if you'll let me." she smiled kindly at Ashlle.
