Before she could get an answer from her class about the Puffskeins one Miss Rae had a question for her.
"Ah" said Merry kindly "I believe the correct pronunciation is 'Ca-RUL-o-us in-fla-MA-ray' The color potion being the first part 'Ca-RUL-o-us' Here let me give you a new jar to put your fire in."
And she handed Miss Rae another fire proofed glass jar.

"Thank you!" replied Jenna sweetly. As she walked back to her desk with the fire proof jar, she kept muttering under her breath, "Ca-RUL-o-us, Ca-RUL-o-us." When she sat down and put the jar in front of her, she pulled out her wand. She narrowed her eyes, very determined to get it right this time.
She took a deep breath and said very clearly with a perfect swish, "Ca-RUL-o-is in-fla-MA-ray." The jar gave a little jolt but the flame came out green. I'm so dumb! It's us, not is!!!
She took another deep breath and said loudly with one of the perfect swishes, "Ca-RUL-o-us in-fla-MA-ray!" The jar gave another violent jerk but then a large blue flame tranformed in the jar. Thank god I got this right! She took the jar up to Professor Divine's desk and said with glee, "Look! I got it right!" Jenna gave a huge grin.

"Ah yes, that's it! What a lovely job. Now please read the page in your book. The report I need from you should be at the bottom of the page." She then showed Miss Rae the page in her own book. www.freewebs.com/charms1/bluebellflames.htm"I hope you don't fine it too too hard." she added with a sparkly smile.

Jenna walked back to her desk and quickly took out a piece of parchment and several quills. Well, since I don't have any wizards in my house (seeing how my foster parents hate wizards), I'll write a little about the fire saftey muggles practice.Fire saftey is very important in both wizarding and non-wizarding home for each of which are targets for a dangerous fire. The ways muggles and wizards protect themselves from such aren't that different. Muggles ways, however, are a little primative.
Most muggles make sure that they have at least one fire extingusher (a small tube of water that can sprey the fire) in the house. In muggle cities or in high apartment buildings, the rooms that are higher up normally have a fire escape. A fire escape is a big metal walkway from a window that they would use to leave a burning building if the can't get to the front door. Also, (this isn't really in my house) in muggle schools, they practice fire drills which give each class a way out of the school if it ever catches fire. Fire alarms are also pretty customary in any muggle home. If they catch any dangerous smoke, they make a extremely loud noise to inform the inhabitants of the home that it is on fire so they can escape. Fires are very dangerous and saftey procautions should be taken in both magical and non-magical homes to protect your family. Very nice! I see you know a lot about Muggle Fire Safty, Miss Rae. Flames = 10 Points, Paper = 9 Points ;D Jenna smiled at the paper and brought it up to the professor's desk. "Here you go!" she said with a proud smile and went back to her desk. She then put the quills, ink bottle, and parchment back into her bag.

Ambrosius? Sylph raised a subtle questioning eyebrow at her teacher but remained silent. She was supposed to cuddle it? Suppressing a derisive snort she looked back to the ball of fluff that was the Puffskein on her desk.
"Ambrosius, is it?" she said softly to the yellow fur ball. "Fine, let's see what you do here then." Sylph prodded Ambrosius hard at the point which she would consider to be its stomach - though she wasn't really sure - causing an orgy of purring and rumbling to emanate from the creature as if it were in ecstasy.
"Huh. That's interesting," Sylph murmured to herself, remembering the words in her book about Puffskeins not minding being thrown around. Chucking a purring ball of banana yellow fuzz would probably make her feel better, allow her to work out soome frustration. Maybe this wasn't such a bad turn of events after all.
The next thing the puffskein knew, it was hurtling across the room, sailing gracefully through the air after being launched with considerable force from Sylph's desk, until it was caught by...
OOC: somebody catch Ambrosius, prod him a bit and throw him to someone else. He won't mind, and a game of catch should make the class more interesting!

As soon as Andy heard the assignment, she started shuffling through her stack books and paper on her desk. At last, she found a blank sheet of parchment. It was fairly wrinkled, but it was the best that she had. She decided to write about fire safety first. She took out her quill, set it to the parchment and wrote: Every year, thousands of homes, public and private buildings, and hundreds of thousands of trees and acres of wild foliage are destroyed by fires. To help prevent fires Muggles regularly have their businesses and, occasionally, their homes checked by fire inspectors. Fire inspectors are usually muggles trained in finding fire hazards in a building. The infractions are then corrected in order to maintain the safety of everyone that may enter that building. In the home, muggles exit the building (by crawling along the floor to avoid smoke inhalation) when a fire alarm (a muggle device that emits a loud, high pitched wail) sounds. The Muggle governments also fund a fire department that employ firefighters (Muggles specially trained in putting out fires) to fight residential, business, and wild fires. What a lovely Composition Miss Andy! It says a lot a bout muggle fire safety in general but not about your personal fire safety methods. When you have conjured your fire, I shall be happy to grade your work! Andy looked at the parchment. Yes, that looked right. She hopped up; she always performed her spells better when standing and she was so small that there was no real increase in her height. She practiced the pronunciation that Professor Merry Divine stressed was so important. "Ca-RUL-e-us en-fla-ma-RYE. Wait no." Andy said to herself. "Ca-RUL-e-us in-fla-MA-rye." Yes, that was right. A blue flame left from her wand and into the jar of with she was aiming. Unfortunately, a spark lepta from the jar and caught her Charms textbook on fire. She put the fire out with a spout of water from her wand. The fire went out, but unfortunately, her Charms book was a mess. Andy approached Professor Merry Divine. She was more than ready to hand in her paper and perform the spell, but she was hoping that the professor could fix her textbook as well.

Post by Teagan on Jul 28, 2005 22:21:31 GMT
Teagan had put her assignment and jar in the Homework Box on the little bridge earlier, and had begun to become bored with the class. Lazily, she searched through the charms book on her desk. Most of the charms were ones she already knew, and could preform very well.
Her red eyes were like a settle flame, one that would burst with control at any given moment, though the moment would have quite long to wait. Her inner turmoil was completely calm and relaxed, but could explode at a hopefully chosen time.
Unintentionally, her right hand shot up and her smooth palm and slender fingers became filled with an odd, soft and fuzzy material. A glimmer of interest flickered like a weak source of light in her ruby eyes. Teagan calmly turned her head to see what she had caught. A yellow furry creature was purring loudly as it dangled in her claw-like, but controlled and gentle, grip. What the heck? After a few seconds of thought, she recalled that it was called something like a puffskein, or was it puffskin? Puffskein, she assured herself, and quietly glanced around the room.
It looked like Sylph was the one that sent it hurtling. Oh well, she thought calmly meeting eye contact with the girl. Teagan's wrist turned, and quickly changed position. The puffskein was now flying in a consecutive path toward Aridan where it would probably slide to a stop on his desk. Without bothering to see the results of this calamity, she averagely turned her head back toward the board at the front of the classroom and acted like nothing had happened. Her left hand still impotently held her tender head, her left elbow remained on the desk, and she was in the same bored fashion as before. Fortunately, she had reverted quickly enough so that no one, except possibly Sylph, could see her catch or toss it.

Lyserg was sleeping the whole time and was aparently drooling on his desk next to Shazza. He yawned and mumbled in his sleep with small giggles and laughs. His laughs turned into sighs, he raised his head and started to sleep walk around the room slowly, randomly bumping into different students and desks. Lyserg stopped suddenly and then started walking again. He tripped over something on the floor and fell flat on his face. Of course anyone would have woken up from a fall like that but he was still sleeping and looked comfortable on the floor quietly snoring.
ooc: I'm back from vacation now, sorry dudes. ^^;

Merry was distracted by Mr. Lyserg's sleep walking and so didn't notice her beloved pet being tossed about the room like he was unloved.
"Mr. Lyserg!" she exclaimed as he fell to the floor. "There will be no sleeping in my class! If you are to fatigued for class I suggest going up to the Hospital Wing. It can be dangerous if one doesn't get enough sleep for school work."

Lyserg jumped a mile, eyes wide open when the Prof. yelled at him. He jumped to his feet instantly , his heart pounding. "Wha-What?!" He paniced and saw he was away from his seat. Quickly Lyse dashed to his seat next to Shazza and clung to her "Geez Prof.! I'm so sorry!!" He woudn't let go of his girlfriend "I have been getting a lot of sleep, It's just that sometimes I fall asleep without even knowing it."

"I'm sorry Mr. Lyserg" said Merry realizing she'd frightened him. "I didn't mean to speak so loud. I'm glad you get enough sleep, but maybe you should have your sleepwalking looked into. It may get you into deep trouble one day." She smiled sheepishly. "Wouldn't want you wandering into the Forbidden Forest."

Now that Professor Merry Divine seemed to have calmed slightly. Andy set both her jar of raging flames and her essay on the professor's desk. She leaped over the pile of books next to her desk and sat down. After watching the classroom for a minute, clearly entertained, Andy pulled out her charms book and Spellotape. She wound the tape around the book, trying to repair it the best that she could.
Ah what a nice flame, Miss Andy! (I must have been not been looking when you conjured it.) Paper = 7 Points, Flames = 9 Points

Whilst Andy was repairing her wand, a tall, white-haired girl with silver eyes walked in to the room. "Greetings, Professor." the girl said, bowing. "I was told to come here. I am Aurora Black."

After apolagising to Mr. Lyserg Merry hear another student come in. Merry walked over as the student introdused herself.
"Hello Miss Black, have you come to learn or just to deliver a message?" She asked, then gesgered to an empty seat. "If you have come for the lesson, Please, have a seat where ever you'd like."
Merry then smiled kindly at Miss Black to show she was most welcome.

Ashlle was haveing trouble with her essey. She had spent almost no time at all in Rainier Castle, so how could she possibly know what sort of Safty measures the House Elves were takeing? Still she had to write somthing . . . Ashlle G. Rainier Gryffindor Charms
I live in a large ancestral Castle with my four House Elves. I’m not sure exactly what Fire Safety measures they have taken beyond the magical protection of a few key possessions. However in the future I plan to see to it that more of my possessions are protected magically.
I know that the House Elves take every precaution when dealing with the magical fires they conger, for they are very dedicated and loyal to me. I haven’t yet had a need to conger a magical fire myself at home, but I’ll surely follow all safety requirements when I do.
Also I think I shall be sure someone watches the fire when I am working to make sure no Ashwineders accidentally get loose in my castle. As I am sure everyone know an Ashwineder is a magical snake with a very short life span. It can crawl out of a magical fire and lay eggs that can set a house ablaze rather quickly. Well! I was unaware you lived alone Miss Rainier. How sad, you must be lonely. You certainly have a way with words! and A lovely jar of Flames as well. Essay = 9 Points, Flames = 10 Points Ashlle smiled at her finally finished paper and went up to put it and the secont jar of flames in the basket on the bridge that was Professor Divine's desk.
