Ginerva ran down the hallways in a rush carrying a brown box. She was late for her own class and was worried. This wouldn’t be her first time teaching, while working under Professor DeLang she had been left to take over lessons before, but this was her first time teaching at Magic Horizons. As Ginerva ran through a ghost -who shouted insults at her as she did- she finally spotted her classroom and a line of slightly annoyed students looking at their watches and wondering where their teacher could be. Ginerva slowed down into a quick walk as she made her way to the group of students. “Sorry I’m late, dears,” Ginerva apologized. Holding her box in one hand and reaching into her pocket she pulled out an old, rusty key and unlocked the classroom door then added, “I decided to do it the ‘Muggle way’ since this is Muggle Studies.” Once inside the classroom Ginerva hurried to her desk and sat the box down while her students found their seats. Ginerva waited for a Hufflepuff girl to sit down before beginning the class. “Welcome to Muggle Studies,” Ginerva announced grandly, “I am your new Professor. “My name is Ginerva Spring.” Ginerva paused then added, “But it is only respectable that you call me Ms. Spring or Professor Spring.” Ginerva noticed that she was loosing a few students so she decided to skip the rest of the introduction and start off with today’s lesson; “Muggles have an idea as to how they believe, the few who do believe, Wizard kind is really like. In story books and old tales they talk about us having broomsticks, a right belief. On the other hand they also talk about us being green and melting if water touches us. “It may seem that Muggles are foolish creatures, and maybe they are, but at the same time who is to say that us Wizards are not foolish as well?” Ginerva looked around the room as a few students shook their heads or mumbled to the person beside them wondering what she was talking about. She smiled at this and continued; “A lot of the students here today know Muggles. Some are Muggle Born, as am I. Others here come from full Wizard families and have never even seen the Muggle world. “So yes maybe we too are foolish. That is why for our first lesson all I want you to do is to spend sometime reflecting on how you see the Muggle world and to share your point of view based on what I just said.” Once she had concluded her short speech Ginerva reached into the brown box. For a second she started pulling what was in it out, then she decided not to, “I think I’ll save this for later. Just pull out your quills and parchment and begin working.” --------------------------------------------- OOC: Welcome to Muggle Studies! For this first lesson all you have to do is role play to get full credit. If you actually write down the short essay you’ll get extra points. Also the main site at which you can find lessons and such is located here: www.freewebs.com/ginervaclassroom/index.htm. You won’t get any extra help here for this first lesson but you’ll find this lesson posted on that there. Oh and familiarize yourself with the rules and expectations on the first page.

Lumiere came into to class dressed in her house uniform. She sat down and listened to the teacher start to lecture. After she finished Lumiere had no idea why she had taken this class. Even though muggles could be intresting they could also be very cruel and hateful to magic folk.
She looked around the room and to the door hoping another person would enter so she would not be sitting alone.

Starlit walked down the halls to Muggle Studies. In truth she didn't even know why she had decided to take this class seeing as she had grown up around muggles and in truth wasn't found of a lot of them. Although, some she did find nice.
When she tried to turn the doorknob it wouldn't move. "I guess I'm early?" she said to herself. That is unusual usually I'm either right on time or late. As more and more people began to gather around the door, she began to wonder where the teacher was. Her question was soon answered when the professor came a bit late and unlocked the door.
Walking into the classroom, Starlit found an empty desk in the third row of the classroom and sat down. Listening to the teacher introduce herself and Muggle Studies Starlit waited for the assignment.
After it was given Star took out a bottle of dark sapphire blue ink and her silver quill.

I think that the muggle world is both similar and different then the wizarding world. We all eat the same things and speak the same language. A lot of the ways things are done is different though. In the wizarding world many household chores are done with the assistance of magic. We also have different things in our households. Everything from books to our ways of travel are different.
My opinion on whether or not muggles are foolish is mixed. Yes, some muggles are extremely greedy, foolish, and just down right awful. The thing is, is that so are some wizards. In conclusion I think that the muggle and wizard worlds have their differences and their similarities.
Starlit put down her quill and handed in her paper. She sat back in her seat. Wondering about her family that she had left behind and if she would ever live in the Muggle World again. She liked the wizarding world better, it would be better with her family though. Who knows maybe my brother will turn out to be a wizard as well! she thought hopefully.
[glow=orange,2,300] Short but well written, also you picked up a few extra points.

Brites had come in slightly after the professor had opened the door. She just hadn't been able to find the room. She was never good with directions.
As she took her seat and listened to the teacher she smiled. She figured she would enjoy this class even though she had lived in the muggle world for a few years now.
She did as she was told and pulled out her quill and parchment. She scribbled down a few brief thoughts about the muggle world, hoping to further expand on her thoughts as the class went on.
Brites O'Roric Slytherin House Muggle Studies
My thoughts on the muggle world involve a variety of feelings.
Firstly, I am entranced by the ability of muggle inventors and writers. I think that cds and stereos are some of the most amazing pieces of equipment in either of the worlds. The books are also quite amazing with how they capture the truly human side of people, seeing as muggles tend to see it better and more realistically. They do not focus on the magical aspect of a person's psyche, but the emotional and logical sides. I do find it amusing though when they attempt a go at trying to capture 'mythical' beings in their stories and involving them with human behavior that, I do admit, many beings have.
Second, I feel that too many muggles are obsessed with the materialistic side of life. They do not live life as if it could end tomorrow, but as if they might die from not owning the right clothing, or having the newest bands in your cd case. I believe wizards can sometimes be just as shallow, but I see it less frequently in wizards than in muggles.
Finally, I do believe that our worlds are very similar in the familiar aspect. Friends and family play large roles to both muggles and magic folk. I think this is the best part of the muggle world, how they can love others that are not just like them, in most cases, as we are able to. It gives me hope that perhaps one day the muggle and wizarding worlds might be able to become one and accept eachother. I realize it will be a long time off, if it ever will happen, but the possibility is nice to look forward to.
Brites put her quill down and went up to the front desk, placing her paper with the teacher and going back to her seat. She then took out another piece of parchment and decided to write quietly about her life in the muggle world in the perspective of another person while she waited for another assignment.

[glow=purple,2,300]Dovie Bell made haste to Muggle Studies and found she was..slightly early. Usual she thought to herself as she sat down. Heyas Lumi... Dovie sent over in thought. She looked up at the board to read what was written in chalk and something caught her eye. A train set! Oh, how I always wanted one of those, ever since I knew Grandpa was in love with them and.. Dovie's thoughts went on and on in a jumbled mix in her own mind. Oh...sorry, not allowed to talk in class...See you...after class Lumi? Sound good..? Dovie sent over, quieting her mind to anyone around her that might pick up on her mind abilities. Essay, eh..? Dovie thought to herself. Alright, fine, she'd write her answer to the question that was posed. She took out her parchment and wrote a single line. The people in the magical world and muggle world are exactly the same, the only difference being their birthed abilities. Hn, should sho all those idiots who think muggles are bad. Wizards are ten times worse for the most part... Dovie gave an insignificant snort, crossed her arms, and stared boredly at her paper. The idea that muggles were cruel, loathsome, vile creatures just showed the bias that wizards had. Then again, the accusor is usually the one doing what they are accusing of... She'd remembered saying that way, way back when her father accused her mother of certain things that he himself was guilty of, and never fessing up to it. Everyone was biased, Dovie wouldn't fake blindness to that. She herself was slightly biased towards muggles, since the ones she grew up around were kind, gentle people, and the wizards she grew up around were cruel, spiteful, and full of hatred. The fact that muggles were absolutely brilliant inventors and infamous creative minds seemed to elude most everyone in this world, and it broke Dovie's heart to know they were so looked down upon. Dovie raised her hand and waited to be recognized so she could ask a question.[/glow]

While her students had begun their writing lesson Ginerva was now organizing some loose pieces of parchment on her desk. When everything was in order she glanced around the room. In her second sweep-through she noticed a Gryffindor student, a girl, had her hand up. “Yes miss, Bell is it,” Ginerva said addressing the girl and she waited for her reply.

Zee smiled at the Professor Spring's intro. For some reason, she liked this teacher. Her reference to the Wizard of Oz had obviously left some students in the dark, others seemed to understand immediately. Culture shock. Zee thought, remembering a Cultural Anthropology class she'd taken at her Muggle High School. Thinking of which, that's probably a good topic to start on. Zee picked up her quill, and began writing.
Zee Oddwyn Muggle Studies Ravenclaw
Coming to Magic Horizons from a Muggle Family was a real eye opener for me. I went to Middle School, and even freshman year of High School, before receiving my letter of admittance. In some ways, the wizarding world is a lot different from the muggle world. In other ways, it isn't. The people of the Muggle world, for one thing, have always had a deep love for the idea of magic, but believe it to be a fictional thing. Science is the mainstay of the Muggle World, since it can be used to explain almost anything. With Magic, there is no scientific explanation. Probably because Magic is more a product of latent ability, and belief. As far as people go, there isn't much difference between the two worlds. You find a mix of jerks and nice people wherever you go. I knew plenty of the former, and few of the latter in the Muggle schools that I attended. Fortunately, for me, the balance has shifted since my stay at Magic Horizons. Mind you, there are still quite a few jerks. (some of which, I hear, are planning on attacking the school, you might want to be on your guard.) And that would be one of the major differences in the Wizarding world. In the muggle world, you can be bombed, shot, and tortured, however, it isn't likely that your enemy will be able to freeze your insides with a single word. In that respect, the wizarding world can be a scary place indeed.

Post by jadore on Jun 15, 2005 20:30:43 GMT
Jadore sat alone, quietly at the back of the class. It was her first lesson at the school so had made a huge effort to be there on time. She felt a little relieved to know that it was the professor's first lesson too: maybe the teacher wouldn't be so harsh, at least for a while! When the lesson began Jadore fixed her one blue, one green eyes onto Ms Spring, and listened carefully to everyword that was said. Being 17, Jadore had quite a vast knowledge of magic and so had her quill levitating above her note pad, and scribbling notes that she could use later.
After a little introduction and speech from the new professor, the class work was set. Taking hold of her quill and plucking it from mid air she held it against her temple, and closed her eyes to concentrate. Ok, I've got to reflect on the muggles and share my point of view, this should be easy! I lived as a muggle for a while. Come on Jadore... she thought to herself. Ten or so minutes later the mousy-brown haired girl sighed as she opened her eyes to look at a blank piece of parchment: she had gotten no where. Glancing at the time she panicked: Come on, just write something before you get into trouble! she shouted at herself.
Muggles, or humans as they call themselves, believe themselves to be the most superior creatures on this planet. Most would ridicule the ones who believed in the existense of magic. So already, I have pointed out two mistakes that most muggles make: they are not the most superior creatures for wizards, witches, dragons, faeries and all other sorts of creatures are far more superior, and the second is obviously that magic does exist.
Now don't get me wrong: I do not dislike the muggles, in fact it is quite the opposite: I love them. I lived among the muggles for 7 years, from the day of my birth until the day I was taken into care by a magical family. My mother was a witch, but my father a muggle, and so I believe I know quite a lot about muggles.
Jadore stopped, and read through what she had written. She soon realised that she had rambled on about complete rubbish, and she threw her head into her hands in frustration. Deciding against wripping it all up and starting again she decided to just continue, this time trying to be more to the point:
Muggles. As with every type of being, magical ones included, there are good and bad ones. Muggles have grown intellectually over the years, and now hold the knowledge to create things such as life-support machines, space shuttles, communication devices and my personal favorite: the muggle TeleVision!
However, they also abuse there knowledge and create things of destruction, such as nuclear weapons that could kill hundreds of thousands of people. They have enough sources of food, water, and other goods to share them out equally and give everyone a fair and good standard of life, however the greed withing most muggles means that this does not happen.
I am not trying to say that muggles are bad, because there are a lot of good muggles. If I think about it, they are similar to magical beings in many ways. We too can be corrupted by power. Both muggles and witches rely on the support and love of those around them, and both muggles and witches can choose to be good or bad. I think many magical beings have gotten the wrong message about muggles over the years, of course there are bad ones but they should not ruin our view of all muggles. Muggles have misconceptions about magic, as we have misconceptions about them.
We all have knowledge, it may differ in what we know, but in my opinion muggles are no better than we are, and vice versa. We are all individauls and have the ability to choose our own path, it's having the knowledge to be loving and understanding towards others that makes us 'good'. If we worked together, we could acomplish so much.
Jadore Grace Gryffindor
Jadore put her quill down and blew the ink on her parchment dry. This was not her best work, and she had rambled on an awful lot. She put it down to being new, and having a lot of things going on in her hectic life. She would do better next time. Packing up her things neatly, Jadore stood, and walked to the front desk, placing her work carefully down on the pile, before returning to her seat and waiting for further instructions.

[glow=purple,2,300]"I have finished my essay, where should I put it..?" Dovie waved the parchment with the sentence 'Muggles and wizards are the same, the only diffference being that wizards are born with magical abilities.' written on it. "I..hope it's not too short, but it really is my opinion on things, and I feel it is succinct enough to not need further explanation. For a second Ginerva thought about what the student had said. It seemed like a feeling, or maybe just the summary of a feeling. The sentence didn’t say enough so Ginerva decided to try and get Miss Dove to delve deeper into her mind, “Actually I’d like it if you could elaborate more on the topic. Your first sentence is a good start but I need you to explain more about your feelings."

Mesutashi had been sitting quietly in the back of the class. She listened to the teacher explain the assignment and began to write.
Mesutashi Niaku Slytherin House Muggle Studies
I have lived most of my life moving around the Muggle world. I have seen enough to form this thought about it; It is amazing! They have gorgeous buildings, made by hand! They also have items such as television and the telephone which make it easier for people to communicate with the rest of the world and they didn't use magic for it; only there own brilliant minds. Unfortunately, those same brilliant minds include ones that have made weapons of mass destruction that i have seen wipe out many a civilization or number of innocents. In this respect, I see Muggles to be much like Wizards. We have wonderful Wizards and Witches that use their powers for good purpose, to help and to heal. We also have hardened Wizards and Witches that would use their powers for destruction. They would kill thousands and thousands, for what? For power, for fun, or simply because they want revenge on a world where they weren't able to make a loving home for themselves? Both worlds have their problems and their paradises. I believe that we are more similar than anyone would truly like to believe.
Mesutashi handed in her paper and took her seat once more. She began to reflect on horrors she had seen in the Muggle world, and some she had seen right here at MH. Her expression grew dismal. The two worlds were not far from destroying each other, nor themselves. It would all be decided in a matter of decades, perhaps sooner, and she did not feel the outcome would be very pleasant.

Raven walked into the class behind everyone else and alone when the door was unlocked.
She sat down infront of the class and said nothing and showed nothing as the teacher spoke. Raven began to think back to her time in the Muggle world. She had had a rough life wherever she had been. She was not a pureblood but a mixed breed. Not wanted by most Wizards and feared and hated by almost all Humans, she had been alone most of her life.
As the teacher, introduced as Professor Spring, finished Rave took out her parchment out and began writing.
Raven Rain Ravenclaw House Muggle Studies
I was born to a Human, Muggle, mother and a Wizard father. Because of this I have been in both worlds, lived in both worlds, and know a bit about both societies. I do believe both Muggles and Wizards to be foolish, for no one person or race is perfect and without flaws.
Muggles fear what they do not understand and usually try to destroy it. This ideal in itself is very foolish, for not everything that one does not understand is out to harm or kill.
Muggles and Wizards have many similarities, in fact I believe the only real difference between the two races is that Wizards have magical capability and Muggle usually do not. Even this is debatable though, for there are Muggle born people who have magical capability.
The other differences between are based on the fact that Wizards have magic. The flying is based on magic, the books, the pictures all use magic. I believe that if Wizards did not have magic they would be just like Muggles.
So for the question of are Muggles foolish, yes they are. For the second question of are Wizards foolish, of course they are.
Rave put her pen away as she finished her essay. Again there was nothing but a blank expression on her face. Rave had learned at early age to show blankness for what others wanted was to see her scream and cry. She had emotions but they were locked away, waiting for someone to use the key to bring them out.
She rolled up her parchment and walked up to the front of the room. Rave placed the parchment on the professor's desk without a word and waited silently for the professor's instructions.

A smile worked its way across those pale pink lips. Muggle Studies. Now, unlike the rest of the classes the blue-haired girl attended, she knew she had to at least know something about this subject. Carmen, like some, was muggle born. Thus, she hoped that she would be somewhat good at this subject.
She let out a little giggle from the middle row of desks as she gazed upon normal household items like TVs and Radios ect. that the majority of the students didn't know about. Little did everyone know that Carmen could name all these and describe their purpose for muggles. It was so strange to call them that, and she probably wouldn't get used to it for a while.
After listening intently - like she used to do in High school in Australia - the girl pulled out her Biro blue pen - again, different to everyone's quills ect. - and began scribbling down her little piece of work designated for the class to complete. But lifted her head to slide a grin over to Zee, the girl she had been partnered up with in another class.
Carmen Thompson Hufflepuff House Muggle Studies
Seemingly unlike everyone else I have met, I'm muggle born as you put it. Both my parents had no idea about the wizarding world, and thus when the letter arrived on the doorstep in Australia - where I lived before moving to the school - they were almost frightened about this new world. But after studying up and asking various departments of Magic about this, they understood what was happening.
From what I have seen since I have arrived, I'm one of the only muggle born students, along with my parents not knowing about this fantastic Magical world. But the sad thing about us is that we base our understanding and explanations on science, and when things come up that science can't comprehend, we fear or obliviate the thing.
Thus, if muggles are exposed to the Magical world to a major extent, we could fear a war between both societies. Just like if the muggles were exposed to werewolves or dragons, they are more likely to torture the creatures through tests to control rather than to just sit back and watch what happens.
Muggles (and possibly wizards and witches) have a habit of tampering with things they don't understand, and if this poses as a danger to themselves, probably will remove the thing from existance.
And like the other times, Carmen let out a sigh of relief. Now was the time to hope she had done everything correctly. Without further adue, she got up from her seat, and placed the parchment on the teacher's desk with a smile towards Ms. Spring, then sauntered back to her seat.

i think that both of the two are foolish we do not melt or are we green we are all humans not monsters just some of us have different gifts we have magic and the have technology but we are the same yes some of us are mean rude evil even but yes we are the same but with different gifts.
the muggle world is not to different from the the magical world the reside on the same planet. but i think we should accept each other some muggles have books movies that say we are evil and some are nice but it still doesn't mean where going to jump out of the book and eat them. so we are both foolish to be that way about each other.
