Kasmira checked her watch for the third time in five minutes. She held her breath and counted in her head. 'Three, two, one' BRINGGGGGGG The bell rang and straightening her robes, Kasmira strode to the doorway and checked off names on her attendance list as the class stragled in. Turning, she walked purposfully to her desk and checked the ingredients out one last time. Everything was in order so she turned and looked over the class. 'I wonder what they think of me' she mused. "Good morning class and welcome to potions. I will be your Potions Mistress, because it sounds a lot cooler than potions teacher. My name is Kasmira Ember. I will not have you calling me Professor. If we are to learn potions together, we must be on first name terms. I will call you by your first names and you will call me by mine. If another teacher gives you trouble, have them come to me. Any questions?" 'Well, it's out and there's nothing I can do about it short of erasing their entire memories. I never was very good at Memory Charms.'

From a desk far behind Kelcia watches Kasmira. She tries not to disect her yet. She decided to give her a week to show her personality.
She pulls out her parchment and quill. Her wand on the right of her desk for easy access. Yes, she was obsessive compulsive but she did have a knack for being evil... in perspective that is.

When (what Kasmira hoped was) the whole class had arrived, she clapped her hands and asked for quiet. No dice. She tried again with no sucess. The annoying little voice in her head chose that moment to speak up. ' Would you have been quiet for the new, young teacher when you were a student?!' She saw that a few of the students were sitting quietly with their materials out. This observation gave her courage. After about five minutes of having her voice get louder and louder, Kasmira sighed. ''I was hoping that it wouldn't coem to this. Now I'll probably get in trouble for doing this" she muttered. Pulling out her wand, Kasmira racked her brain for the spell, found it, and spoke the words. The Messenger Spell was quite a complicated bit of magic. It said the same thing to each person it was cast upon, in this case "SHUT UP OR DETENTION!!!". The thing that made it need more power was that the message would come through in the mind. Not only that, it would be spoken in the voice of the person that the student feared most. Sitting back in her comfy desk chair, Kasmira watched the effects on her students.

Potions.
What could be more boring than this lesson straight after lunch? Saying bye to her friends reluctantly, Hayzie dragged her feet to the dungeon where the lesson would take place. This would most definitely teach her for picking subjects at random.
Sitting towards the back of the dungeon classroom, the blonde girl popped a sweet in her mouth discretely before unpacking her things and crossing her arms, leaning her chin on them as the remainder of the class filled up. Sucking half heartedly on her sweet, the blonde Prefect took in the new teacher. First name terms would be interesting. Maybe potions would be okay from now on. Maybe she would pass.
Though the spell ricocheting around the room made Hayzie flinch. Why was her voice there? Shuddering slightly, green eyes looked up. How she hoped this Professor hadn’t heard rumours about her. Potions had to be made fun somehow, and Hayzie had a few things in mind to make it so.

Marina Roeswood was enamoured with all things having to do with learning. While, however, she had often failed to do her homework in recent times, or shrugged off a reading assignment or two, it was only because Nina understood most things without so much effort. But there was one class she would never shrug off work in: potions.
The expression on her face was almost excited as she walked into the class, one of the first arrivals, and sat down silently at the front and center of the class. Immediately she took out her necessary supplies, checking that she had everything she could possibly need, and eagerly looked up at the Professor.
She scowled a little bit as the class kept talking even though the Professor was trying to quiet them, though perhaps that was partly because she had no one to to talk to. The thought made her squirm uncomfortably for a moment, that was until the words "SHUT UP OR DETENTION!" rung in her head. Nina blinked a couple times until she recognized the name of the spell among piles of information in her brain, then sitting in a contented daze waiting for the class to begin. As opposed to being taken aback, the Slytherin Prefect was pacified instead, something which any person might consider strange. But then again, she hadn't been talking in the first place.

How could Marina be so enthusiastic about Potions? Hayzie hadn't spoken to the other Prefect often, but from what she knew, Potions was her favourite subject. Raising a brow as the Slytherin sat up straight with all her ingredients in front of her, Hayz yawned a little, trying to figure out just how long this period was going to take before it would be over.

She sat watching the 'teacher's' failed attempts at quieting down the class. She sat still, schlumpind down in her chair. It would be one long hour. Potions wasn't something she excelled in but she actually cared about this class. She thought it was the correct test of knowledge, precision, and accuracy.
Her eyes not leaving the teacher she suddenly hears the voice of someone long gone scream at her in her head.
Where have I heard that voice? It's been so long.
She blinks a few times comming out of her thoughts, she notices the silent class room noticing Hayzie who is also in her astrology class Hafta introduce myself sometime.. anyways..., and sets her gaze back on the teacher listening intently.

Mesutashi sat bat in her chair and looked around at the students. She noticed Kelcia and a few others she'd seen about. She was then caught unawares as an almost silent whisper passed in her mind saying "Shut up or detention." She shivered uncontrolably for until it passed and looked down at her desk. She moved her notebook around restlessly and shifted uncomfortably in her chair. Her skin crawled. 'Why must people use that spell....' she asked herself. She then put her attention back to the class, trying to shake off the deadly voice.

Zee had been listening with half and ear to Kasmira, a headphone was in the other. She was listening to the latest Gorillaz album, and enjoying it immensely. In othere regards, she was ready for the lesson. She had paper and pencil, and had been making small swirlies in the bottom corner of one sheet of paper when the Messenger spell hit her. She heard what it said in her free ear, the other ear received a bunch of feedback. "Eep!" she yelped, and threw the headset away from her. After the ringing died down in her ear, she gave Kasmira an reproachful look, and put her CD player into her bag, hoping it hadn't been damaged. After a moment, she realized that the voice from the messenger spell had sounded familiar, though she couldn't place it. She pondered it for a moment, but decided it couldn't have been that important. Perhaps the name would come to her later on. Right now, she decided that listening to Kasmira was probably the best thing to do.

Post by Teagan on Jun 12, 2005 18:42:00 GMT
Teagan didn't like to be late for any classes, but Potions was one of the few she definitely made haste to. She wasn't terrible when it came to cooking things, but wasn't too great, either. Cooking and potions were basically the same. Teagan pulled her long red hair into a kind of lazy pony-tail with a green ribbon. She had to keep her hair out of the way--usually when burned while making a potion, the effects were less nice than usual. Anyway, she was used to having to do it at her old school. When Teagan had made it to the classroom, she chose to sit near the front. Her crimson eyes looked over the room and teacher. The teacher seemed nice, but Teagan wasn't ready to assume anything when it came to teachers; she'd had experience.
The teacher began her introduction, and insisted they only called her by her first name, Kasmira. Well, this is a first, thought Teagan. She had known some of her more favored teacher's first names, but she usually didn't call them by it. As the teacher continued her speech, Teagan knew this was going to be a pretty harsh teacher--mistress, as the women had told them earlier. Oh, yay...., thought Teagan sarcastically to herself. What fun.
When some people continued to talk, the teacher muttered something, and a horrifying voice shrieked into Teagan's head. Her eyes widened as she realized the voice, before she noticed what it had said.
"SHUT UP OR DETENTION!"
Detention? Since when did he give a care about detention? It must be the teacher's doing. Teagan gave the new a rather annoyed and not-too-friendly look. Her gaze was relentless. She could have just announced the beginning of the lesson instead of doing that. There weren't too many people talking, anyway. She's either very impatient, or not experienced and under a lot of pressure. The other teachers were tons nicer, observed Teagan.

Post by Aidana Hawkins on Jun 12, 2005 18:54:22 GMT
Aidana sat in the back of class, taking out her potions materials. She sighed, potions. How was this supposed to be useful for her? She had to learn to think and react in a moments notice, and potions didn't help her one bit. Potions took hours to simmer, and it was a very precise magic. She didn't have the kind of patience needed for that. But then the teacher walked in and surprised Aidana. She seemed very laid back, and caller herself the Potions Mistress. Aidana grinned, becoming a little more enthusiastic. Maybe this new teacher could capture her attention after all. But the rest of the class must have thought her laid back too, so they didn't quiet down. Kasmira uttered a little spell, and said something. But it didn't come out in her voice. Aidana could hear the person she worst feared, and who she thought she would be rid of angry at her.
" SHUT UP OR DETENTION!!" her mother yelled, shaking Aidana.
" I didn't do it!! It was all Aylen's fault!" she said automatically. The room was dead silent, and Aidana clared her throat.
" Sorry," she whispered, embaressed.

Sylph was feeling quite sleepy after lunch, having eaten rather too well as usual, and as such was nodding off slightly, slumping in her seat, one lazy arm propping up her head with the elbow on the desk. She wasn't bad at potions - everyone seemed to loathe the subject, but to her it was just like precise cooking recipes. Just like preparing a chemical reaction in school in fact, which, considering how potions worked, wasn't particularly surprising.
Unfortunately for Sylph, who managed to drift through the professor's - or mistress, as it appeared she liked to be called - little introduction quite well, there was a rather loud voice magically piped into her mind, disrupting her comfortable sleepy digestion time.
SHUT UP OR DETENTION! The voice rang, jarring Sylph's arm right off the table so she half collapsed in a jerking motion. Well, she hadn't been talking, but at least the teacher - Kasmira, was it? - had woken Sylph up sufficiently to perform potions class. Sylph looked around guiltily, a slight grin peeking from beneath her violently purple hair. OK, she was awake, and, judging by the look on Aidana's face, she wasn't the only one to have been embarrassed. Now, was the lesson going to start or what?

Looking around Kasmira saw some amused faces, some looking slightly shocked, some clueless countences, and some staring at her like she was some cruel, evil, ansty, spitefull maniac. 'Maybe it was a little much" she thought 'Come, now, you're overreacting.' said one of her "head voices" 'They deserved it. None of them were paying any attention.' 'I bet some of them have memories as bad as mine, or worse!' "I'm sorry we got off on the wrong foot. As I'm sure you have been told countless times, I will not tolerate talking, notepassing or misbehavior in my class. Everytime you disobey these rules this will happen," she waved her wand and a model of a student appeared. His mouth moved up and down and suddenly he was raised into the air and surrounded by a blue light. Kasmira continued: "I think that that is much more interesting than extra homework. Of course, that will be assigned to anyone who does not think that this is extreme enough to make them refrain from talking. One more thing: anyone who can answer the question on the wall will be exempted from one homework assignment or quiz. Good luck!! Kasmira waved her wand and the question appeared in an empty space on the wall. It read: Please name the Star Trek; The Next Generation book in which Jean-Luc Picard assumes his first command under extraordinary curcumstances. Please also name three other captains mentioned in the book. "That is one hard question!" she thought "I'm not sure even I could get it" "Now, please read pages 1-4 in your textbook: (http://www.freewebs.com/professorkember) and do follow the instructions. If you do not finish the assignment before the bell rings please finish it for homework. Get to it!"

Marina had absolutely no qualms about the Professor's, or, rather, Kasmira's rules, as she'd never had any difficulty in following rules such as these. She watched her with rapt attention, that was, until she gave them their assignment, and immediately Marina flipped through her text to the pages the teacher assigned, reading them over carefully for a few moments. She took note of the key and memorized it, then setting her book aside and then walked briskly to the front of the class to retrieve the potion.
Immediately after returning to her desk, Marina nonchalantly plucked out a piece of hair. She placed a drop of potion on the end, and after a moment's hesitation, it seemed, the hair turned a vibrant red. The traits listed under the category seemed almost more like those that would apply to Gryffindors, she noted, though, since she didn't hold any grudges against the other houses, it didn't really bother her in the slightest.
Pulling out her quill, a parchment, and her favorite green ink, she uncorked the bottle, dipped her quill in, and paused thoughtfully for a moment before she placed the tip to the paper and began to write frantically.
The Reading Potion and Me By Marina Roeswood
When I placed a drop of the potion onto my hair, it turned, after a moment, red. I agree with this personally, especially since I don't think any of the other categories really describe me in the slightest. I am outspoken, I think, perhaps too much so at times, as I blurt out my observations often without thinking of how they may effect the person that they apply to. This is also probably a major contributor to the fact that I have very few friends.
Also, I would certainly categorize myself as brave, largely due to my experiences with Vampires. I was once severely injured by a Vampire and then taken to live in the Vampire caves for a period of over a month, and I survived the ordeal without incredible difficulty on a mental level. Today, I can still converse freely with a Vampire, and while being cautious, not feel too exceedingly anxious either. I think this makes me a relatively courageous person. In closing, I do find that the characteristics under the color red suit me, and most significantly, more than the traits listed under any other color.
Corking the ink and setting her quill aside, Nina read over the contents of her paper for any major errors, seeing none. Smiling slightly, she relaxed, waiting for a grade, realizing with a contented grin that she no longer had to worry whether or not it was a good one.
Teacher's Notes: A wonderful essay with interesting backing to say the least. 19/20 or 95%. (Only because I don't like to have people think they're perfect).

Lethe picked up his textbook and began to open it. Suddenly he stopped. "Um, which page was it again?" He stared blankly at the textbook for almost ten minutes before he remembered. He opened the book and read the assignment. "Okay!" He stood up and was about to start towards the professor's desk when he stopped. He looked back down at his textbook and re-read the assignment. "Oh yeah. That's what I was doing." He made his way toward the professor's desk for the potion, and just stood there. "Um, excuse me, Miss... um..." He thought for a minute or two. "It began with a 'K' didn't it? Anyway, do you know where the teacher is? I think I might be late for class, but I don't remember when I came in, so I'm not sure." His face went blank. "Which class is this again?"
