Mesutashi read the pages assigned in less than a minute and went to the front and got the potion. She took a short breath, rather curious as to what her hair would tell the potion and in turn the potion tell her. Depending on the mood every color but gold and purple, she wasn't related to Royalty that she knew of, applied to her. Also, had she not the love of chaos and mayhem she did, playing pranks and everything, she might have seen gold, but her hobbies rather ruined the chances of that. Not that she minded, she'd rather be involved in mayhem and chaos than be pure, it seemed like it wasn't much fun if she couldn't play jokes on others. She put a drop on a hair that she pulled out. She slowly watched it turn half blue, half yellow.
Mesutashi picked up her quill and scribbled down her paper.
Reading Potions Mesutashi Niaku Slytherin House
As I watched my hair turn to it's designated color by the potion i noticed two colors had actually appeared. Where i placed the drop was half blue and half yellow. It was indeterminable if there was green between or not with the light.
I feel that these colors apply to me because I am truly dependable. Whenever my friends needs me, such as when my friend Sam was upset the other day, I am always there to listen and help. My friends often tell me I cheer them up as well, but that is another color from blue and yellow. I believe I am creative because I do write and draw, which are normally considered to be creative hobbies. I also sing and play guitar, my own songs mostly, which I myself believe to be creative as do others. I can also be very quite in classes and when I'm upset... though normally I'm outgoing and loud, though hopefully not obnoxiously so... I think it applies to me here and now seeing as this is a classroom. In conclusion, I see the colors of blue and yellow, by definition of text, describing me quite well.
Mesu finished her paper and placed her pen back into her robe pocket.
Teacher's Notes: Good writing! Also, nice job for realizing that you may have faults "though hopefully not obnoxiously so". 18/20 or 90%.

Starlit crept into the class a minute or so after the bell rang. I was obvious that she hadn't missed much. The class was talking loudly. After scanning the room Star found an empty desk and sat down at it. Potions wasn't her best class since she sucked at cooking and math. Both of which had a bit to do with potions.
Suddenly words in an chirpy, cracked and scolding voice popped into her head, 'BE QUIET OR YOU'LL GET DETENTION'. The voice automatically silenced her.
After the assignment had been given Starlit sighed out of relief. She didn't have to brew the potion. Turning to page one she began to read. After finishing the fourth page and getting a vile off the teachers desk she pulled a strand of long golden blonde hair from her head and carefully dripped some of the potion on to it.
Starlit Night Ravenclaw House
Reading Potions
My hair turned a bright yellow. It took a few seconds. I think this represents characteristics of mine well. I can be very shy and quiet a lot of the time. Often I would rather be alone then with people. The creative part it is hard to say since I have never allowed anybody to read the stories I write. So, I have no idea whether or not they are good. I also daydream a lot, I mean a lot. I am not sure if that counts as creativity or not, but it does sometimes involve the imagination.
Starlit frowned as she looked at her paper. It was short, but she wasn't that good at talking or writing about herself. Oh well. She began to read over her work. Searching for mistakes.
Teacher's Notes: Good job! It seems that you should reach out to people more. Maybe start a writing circle or join a group in the library. In many cases once a person opens up to one person and realizes their talents, they become more outgoing. 17/20 or 85%.

Post by Kyoske Ashlocke on Jun 13, 2005 4:45:43 GMT
Kyoske Ashlocke was sitting in the first seat in the first row of the class. It had found that teachers tended not to see much of the front row, as they were busy with the rest of the class. Perhaps it was a mental thing, like the old saying went 'hide in plain sight'. He was pondering what the contents of the class would be as the message spell ran threw his brain 'SHUT UP OR DETENTION!!'. The voice that said those words causes Kyoske's eyes to widen just a bit, his eyes then shot to the teacher. He was not a stupid child, he was good with spells and had studied tons of them. The Messenger Spell was not the first choice of many teachers, this teacher had got on the boy's bad side rather quickly today, not may where there.
With a great deal of restraint he managed not to jinx the women on the spot. He stopped himself long enough to calm down and think about why she had cast the spell. Agreed the class had been talking, but that was where the greatest gift in human history came into play, the gift of speech. He turned the book to the page she had told them to and read threw the text quickly. He looked at the small vile of the potion at the front of the class.
He pulled out his wand, and simply flicked his wand and muttered the words "Wingardium Leviosa.". He lifted the vile and brought it to him. He kept his eyes off the teacher, he still harbored some dislike of her, but he did understand, but that was not something use used lightly, many people had horrible past and bring up those memories would not get anything done, besides insure that the teacher would be jinxed loads of times.
He pulled a short blonde hair from his head, with the slightest wince. He toke the hair and dipped the very end of the hair in the potion. Then he toke the potion and sealed it again and lay it next to the hair on the table. The Hair slowly turned Yellow. He looked back into the text and read Yellow= Creative, quiet. He nodded slightly agreeing with the results.
Potions: Reading Potions Kyoske Ashlocke, Gryffindor
The results of the Reading Potion is as follows. My blonde hair has turned yellow, and according to the text this means that i am creative and quiet. This is true at many points but sometimes one can be creative and outgoing or quiet and dull. The Reading Potion is a very interesting Potion to say the least of it, but it is highly circumstantial depending on the person reading the potion and the person being read, as i have stated before about the different combinations of traits.
But in this case it is more accurate then one could read into. I normally am a quiet person and i am highly creative. As some people wish they had not found out threw some gentle pranks pulled by me. Sense you called for one example of this i shall grant this simple request with a story of one of my pranks.
I was 11, and in my 1rst year at my last school. The prank was on a child i disliked, he was a third year who tended to bully those smaller then him around. The prank involved a levitation charm, a 'watered down' sleeping drought, and the roof of the castle. I think the results of that prank can be guess, it was as i said a gentle prank, he was not harmed in any way, other then a new sudden fear of heights, which did manage to get him kicked off the quidditch team
The previous story may not be what you meant by this but i tend to keep quiet, which unnerves some teachers and students.
He dotted the i's and crossed the t's as some would say and looked at the teacher, his hand on his paper, having used quick drying ink he had no worried of smudging his work. He toke out a bit of parchment and some invisable ink and wrote down a bit of stuff, writing above it 'use the potion to see'. His eyes said what he wanted to ask 'What should i do with this?'
OOC: to keep this tidy i will send the letter to you in Pm Professor Ember
Teacher's Notes: Very nice work. Thank you for being honest about this prank you pulled. Your idea shows a sharp mind and a crative streak as well as a need to protect others from someone or something of potential harm. Also, in reply to your comment, the traits are on an and/or basis. If you believe that you are one of the traits and not the other, than you are probably correct. After all, you know yourself best. 18/20 or 90%.

Zee scanned the textbook, and headed up to Kasmira's desk. She quickly took a potion, and not bothering to wait, plucked a strand of her short, white hair, and dipped it in the stopper. She made it to her seat, and watched as the potion turned first red, then yellow, then red again. Make up your mind. she thought at it. But the hair continued it's color change trick. Zee sighed, and recapped the bottle. She picked up her quill, and began to write.
Reading Potion Zee Oddwyn Potions Class
My character seems to be in a bit of a conflict. Upon applying the potion to my hair, it first turned red, then yellow, then red, again. It's continuing this color change as I'm writing. Red, of course, would be in some conflict with yellow, since Red stands for an Outspoken, Brave person, and Yellow is for those who are Quiet and Creative. All in all, I suppose this conflict is accurate. I tend to be quite talkative, yet, I do like my solitude and quiet. Creative and Brave work, I suppose. I do like to draw, and paint, and I'm always up for an adventure. A good example would be when I had an encounter with Death. Yes, with a capital D. The incarnation of Death (he was a jerk, by the way), made a deal with Mable, to bring Kezaa back to life. It was quite an experience. Anyway, in conclusion, Red and Yellow are both appropriate, and inappropriate for me. I seem to be in conflict, yet, I believe there's conflict within everyone.
(P.S.) Rather shrewd way of getting to know your students. A lot better than those freakin' groups the muggle high schools put students in on the first day of school. Kudos.
Teacher's Notes: Very interesting, with good examples. As I have explained to other students, which the text did not explain clearly enough was that the traits were on an and/or basis. If you were labeled red and yellow there must be a reason and I think that it's your job to find that reason out. 18/20 or 90%.

She looks around at the hair color of her classmates. She see's Mesu and agree's with the color change. It's quite interesting what she found out about people not even knowing their names. She finally gets up to get a potion from Kasmira's desk.
You think she'd make us make it ourselves. Oh well, it is the first day...
Nonetheless, she smiles at Kasmira when picking up the potion. She drops some on the ends of her hair (that was black since purple was one of the colors) wondering if it would change to it's normal color. She was sure it wasn't going to be purple so any other color would clash.
She waits, and waits, and waits some more. Her hair doesn't change color. Frustrated she walks up to Kasmira's desk.
"Would you mind helping me?"

[glow=purple,2,300]Dovie, deciding not to mind-talk to anyone so as not to cause any accidental trouble (like in Prof. Divine's Charms class), had been sitting quietly towards the middle of the classroom when she heard the loud "Shut up or detention!" echo through people's minds. She cringed, held her ears tightly trying to block out the echoes, and lowered her head to the desk. Stop, stop, stop, stop, STOP! Dovie was trying to block out the minds of the other students and failed, so she waited until the spell was over, sighed, and loked back up painfully towards the Professor. Surely, of course, she didn't know of her abilities, so it was pure accident, but Dovie had a major headache now. Dovie gave a slight groan, the right side of her head throbbing, and walked up to the front to grab a vial. She sat back down and began reading the text. After a few moments, Dovie was finished and plucked a black hair from her head. Just a drop..annnnnd...House Colors, woohoo! Dovie thought, quietly letting her friends know she'd gotten House Colors. And now for, ugh...writing about myself. Why is this always the assignment? I don't like writing about myself, that's the most...the most...stuck-up thing in the world! Dovie sighed, thinking to herself, and took out some parchment and a deep purple feather quill.[/glow]
Potions, Lesson One: Reading Potions Dovie Bell, Gryffindor House
When I placed a drop of the Reading Potion onto a strand of my hair, it turned, surprisingly enough, two colors: Yellow and Red, equally half and half. According to the text, yellow would indicate creativity and quietness. I would agree on this result, as I am usually a very quiet person, and I love to draw and create new things. I also come up with different, innovative solutions in a pinch. The second result, being red, indicates, according to the book, bravery and outspokeness. I would also have to agree with this result, though I'm slightly boggled by the fact that I'm both quiet and outspoken. I've stood up against a bossy cousin, half of my family that disowned me when I was young, and other people that I've met here at MH. I'm very protective of friends, and will stand up to anyone who decides to mess with them in any way. I am also somewhat opinionated, and tend to speak my mind quiet often, especially if provoked or perturbed. I may be very quiet and artistic, but I'll stand up to anyone who does wrong or is prejudice. It's just my nature, and so I agree with the results. The results describe me very well.
[glow=purple,2,300]Ugh, remind me never to do that again, I don't like writing about myself... Dovie thought to herself and set her quill down. She looked around the room and spied Mesu, Aidana, and Sylph. Hey guys.. Dovie sent ove,r noticing they were done withn their assignment. She gave a calm smile and thought over How's it?[/glow]
Teacher's Notes: Good writing and examples. A few other students have approached me with the half and half query. Half and half simply means a combination. As the text did not indicate, the two traits under each color were on an and/or basis. In your case, you must have one of each of the traits represented by red and yellow. 18/20 or 90%.

Post by Teagan on Jun 13, 2005 20:39:37 GMT
"One more thing: anyone who can answer the question on the wall will be exempted from one homework assignment or quiz. Good luck!!" finished the teacher. She waved her wand, and the question appeared in an empty space on the wall. It read: Please name the Star Trek; The Next Generation book in which Jean-Luc Picard assumes his first command under extraordinary circumstances. Please also name three other captains mentioned in the book. Teagan paid adept attention when the teacher mentioned being able to skip homework or a quiz, but then she read what was written on the board. Uh....... She's joking, right? she silently whimpered. As the teacher told them their assignment, Teagan realized she hadn't been joking. What does this have to do with potions? I mean, it's just some sci-fi thing! It won't help us much in the future... She became even more annoyed with the "mistress," but soon shrugged it off.
Teagan stretched out her fingers, slid her book closer to her, and began to read the book's pages while trying to memorize parts of them, as well. Too bad we don't get to make this potion. This could be useful, thought Teagan to herself. She really wanted to learn how to make the Reading Potion; it could be used to learn more about people.
Then, people began to attain the vials. One boy used the Levitating Charm to achieve it. Not a bad idea, complemented Teagan, but get more exercise if you walk up and get it. Preferring to get exercise, she quietly stood up, and walked over to the teacher's desk. Only if she was in a hurry, or needed to use the Levitation Charm for something would she ever use it, except when she was bored. She lifted a vial from the teacher's desk, and Teagan carefully took it to her own.
She pulled out the cork, and yanked out a semi-long hair. Immediately after, Teagan delicately tipped the vial until a small drop landed on the copper hair. She set the now-wet hair on the far front of her desk, and re-corked the vial.
Teagan heard a boy asking what class they were in. He's either joking, or hasn't paid an ounce of attention, she thought, still being in her unhappy mood from the beginning of class. She completely ignored him.
Teagan pulled out some parchment, and a quill noticing she had somehow lost her black ink. Oh, well, she mumbled in her mind. Teagan groped for her extra ink, ink that was a palatial violet. As her eyes glanced at the hair she had earlier set on her desk, Teagan noted it had turned a type of purple, the secondary color that was made with equal amounts of blue and red. She grimaced remembering and understanding that it meant she was a descendant of royalty, and enjoyed of luxurious things. Royalty? Isn't that going a bit far? she questioned. I know my family is kind of "high class," but royal? Teagan shook her head, and slipped the purple hair under her cauldron. She would've just burnt it right there for fun, but she believed Kasmira probably wouldn't appreciate it. After dipping her quill, Teagan began to write.Potions: Reading Potions Teagan Monolayre Ravenclaw
The color my hair turned when the Reading Potion was put on it was a complacent shade of violet--or purple. This would mean that I was a descendant of royalty, and that I loved luxurious things. This result is mostly true. My family is a group of the higher class that may have been a part of royalty at one time, but I don't believe there is any royalty where we're from. The fact that I like luxurious things--well, who wouldn't? I must admit that I enjoy fanciful things like that.
The color violet is made up of the primary colors red and blue, so it would make sense that I have qualities of both red and blue. If my hair color had simply turned blue, a composite of purple, it would mean that I was very good at listening, good at advising, and I was dependable.
If it had been red, it would be saying that I was outspoken and brave. For the reason that my hair turned violet means that I am part good listener, adviser, and dependable person, and that I'm part outspoken, and brave. I suppose that I must agree with these statements: I normally listen during class, I am usually good when it comes to making decisions, I'm dependable, there have been times where I've been a bit disruptive and I've spoken my mind on certain occasions where it might have been better if I didn't, and I don't get so scared of something that I simply quit and give up. I go until my goal is reached. Of course, that last part could just be sheer stubbornness.
The colors red and blue work together to make my color, purple. Having these qualities, I will try to do my best in by working hard and well in your Potions class like I have and do in most of my classes and the other things I do.Teagan gave a sigh, and let her eyes wander for a few minutes. While her eyes relaxed from the release of strain, the ink on her paper hesitantly dried. After the few minutes' wait, Teagan read it over and checked for errors, added, and changed parts of her exposition to make it receive an, if only slightly, better grade. Why do I have to be such a perfectionist? wondered Teagan as she once again looked toward her paper. Work is much easier if you're lazy and slack off.
Finished checking over her paper, Teagan raised her hand to ask Kasmira a question.Teacher's Notes: Good job Teagan. You have offered some good insights that writers of potions studies have found as well. 18/20 or 90%. P.S. On a more personal note, I noticed your dislike and I sincerely apologize. This is your personal apology. I will ask for forgivness from the entire class before I dismiss you.

Faye yawned, rather loudly, not at all disturbed at all by the unique personality of the new teacher. Glancing around, she noticed that the two other prefects attending the class had already begun on their potions- perhaps she should as well.
Nah.
Yawning once more, she put her head down on the table and took a brief, ten minute nap. For some reason she hadn't slept very well last night- maybe it was the muggy air in the 'Puff dorms. Lottie had tackled the fan a few nights ago, and since then nobody had much fresh air.
She woke up slowly, not at all worried about getting in trouble. After all, the teacher had said expressly not to talk and she hadn't been talking. Just sleeping, which is actually the exact opposite.
Now... time to actually start on the assignment. Faye slowly dragged herself from her desk and wandered up to the front of the room, carefully picking up a potion and then taking it back to her desk.
Wincing slightly, she pulled a single hair from her head and dropped it gently into the potion. After poking it around for a few minutes and watching it do absolutely nothing, the potion abruptly turned yellow. She grinned, referring to her textbook to see exactly what that might mean.
Faerlain Darien Hufflepuff House 6-13-05
Upon dropping my hair into the potion, it turned yellow. According to the textbook, this means that I am creative and quiet- something I cannot deny. Though coming to MH has drawn me out of my shell, I will admit to still being the shy girl who stood in the entrance hall so many years ago. I can remember spending time with Isaac before he was turned into a demon and being shy around him. It was just.... instinct.
I'm definitly a creative person. I love writing poetry or simply writing anything at all. While I've never considered any of my poems to be good, it just makes me happy writing them.
In conclusion, I find that this potion has worked quite well and accurately displayed a few aspects of my personality.
Sighing, she rolled up her parchment and quietly deposited it on the professor's desk. Upon returning to her own desk, she promptly fell into a lazy stupor.
Teacher's Notes: Short, yet good writing and examples. 18/20 or 90%.

Kaige sat in the class stone cold silent. He had been watching the teacher and students. His cold blue eyes scanned the room, reading each face for his or her reaction to their results. Kaige himself had not yet taken the assignment. He honestly didn't care what the results read but for the sake of a grade he would do the stupid assignment. 'Shut Up or Detention' Rang threw his brain in a voice that he could not completely recall. He looked at the teacher and sighed. He got up and moved to the front of the class, where in he toke a small vile of the potion and headed back to his desk. As he looked down at the text he wondered what result he would get in this assignment, he knew himself but did this potion. He pulled a single strand of red hair from his head, he toke it by the tip and dipped it half way into the potion. After such he bottled the potion and lay it next to his book. He toke his silver parchment and his black quill and waited for it to change. After a short moment the hair began to slowly shift colors. He wondered if this was normal but then pushed it out of his head and waited. The colors kept changing from Red, to Blue, then to Yellow. The red slowly faded to where when it got back to red it was a dull red. But the blue and yellow stayed vibrant. He pondered for a moment then re read the text. He realized he did carry many of the traits of red, blue and yellow. He was outspoken at times, but mostly quiet and a good listener. He was creative as he always thought up new things, stories, poems, and other small scaled stuff, he did love to paint. The brave part he guessed was correct but he didn't need it that much so he was not surprised that the potion read it as a mild trait. Reading Potion Kaige Maverick, Slathering House The potion seems to have made it's choice for me rather strangely. The potion turned my hair a dull shade of red, that melted into blue and then into a bright yellow. These traits do seem to fit me at certain times. I do doubt the accuracy of this potion as the color shifting seems to make the results questionable, but never the less i will go with the results.
I am by nature a quiet person, i am always the watcher, a review and calculate everything. I am also creative as i like to write stories, poems, and paint often. As i said i am the watcher of the classroom i love to listen to people, which many tell me is a rare quality these days. The outspoken part of myself is a rare thing to get out but it is big when it does, if i feel strongly on a subject matter i will fight tooth and nail for it, this has put me in some troublesome situations but i have not yet backed down from a challenge when it came to something i believed in, again some say that is rare in these days.He looked down at the parchment the ink was sinking in. He tapped the parchment with his wand and it turned to the shade of a normal parchment. The tip of his wand became silvery. He withdrew a blank new piece of parchment and tapped it, the silvery liquid seemed to envelope the parchment and meld with it. He sighed and thought to himself ' Should have just used this parchment instead of moving that charm.'. He looked to the teacher and waited for more on the subject of the assignment, though he continued Teacher's Notes: Good writing and examples. Sylph was perplexed by the professor - no, mistress - setting them such a strange question, but what was more perplexing was that she hadn't told them to make the potion themselves before completing the assignment. Wasn't the point of potions to test your skills at brewing such things? Still, being sleepy, Sylph was quite glad at the fact that they only had to do a little writing.
After reading the relevent pages, she contemplated using a summoning charm to obtain her vial, but decided against it on the grounds that, what with all the people milling about, it would only end up hitting someone and breaking. Instead Sylph went and fetched a vial for herelf the old fashioned way, and, upon returning to her seat, grabbed hold of one very long bright purple hair and yanked it from her head. Placing it on the table, she poured a couple of drops of the liquid onto it and watched as red and orange smoke began to rise from it, probably as a result of the magical dye she had used to colour her hair purple. Still, once the smoke had disappeared and Sylph had stopped coughing, the hair had quite clearly turned varying shades of red and orange. Sylph smiled. This wasn't a very surprising result.

She looks at her hair and back at Kasmira. She get's an idea for her paper and sit's back down. Kelcia Lansing Potions Reading Potions
My hair didn't turn a color, it stayed black. I thought it was quite odd until I remembered what I read in a muggle book. That pigments are additive. In other words that the three primary colors of pigments create black. Letting there be 3 colors in my hair: Yellow, Cyan, and Magenta. I hypothesize that these colors melded instead of splitting because I lack traits of the colors. For instance Yellow translates to creative and quiet. By no means am I quiet but I am creative. I make my own songs. Red is outspoken and brave. I'm not brave yet I am outspoken. I tend to say things that will break people without a care for it. Blue translates to good listener, adviser, and dependable. I'd like to say that I'm a pretty good adviser and I do try my best to be dependable. In all, the questioning of my black hair might be the fact that I have a charm on it too keep it black and purple since my hair tends to have natural highlights. Teacher's Notes: A good hypothosis and a good essay with decent examples. Props for being honest about yourself. 17/20 or 85%.

Aidana picked up the textbook and began reading the passage she had been instructed to. She knew that she wouldn't be doing anything except what she was supposed to in this class. Her teacher had really scared Aidana. She hadn't expected to hear her mother's voice so early in the school year! Maybe in a Howler nearer to Christmas. She sighed and dropped her hair into the potion. Taking out a quill and a piece of parchment, she began to write.
Aidana Hawkins Gryffindor House Potions Class #1
I dropped a piece of my hair into the Reading Potion, something happened which I didn't quite expect. The Potion seemed to be going through a red-orange marbleized effect. I could see swirls of red among swirls of orange, but they didn't mix in with eachother. I found this quite peculiar.
I looked both the colors up in the textbook, and it made sense to me. Orange means that a person is cheerful and sporty. Yes, some people do say I am a little bit too perky sometimes. And I have a love of racing brooms, and , of course, racing my brother. (I beat him most of the time!) Red represents an outspoken quality and bravery. I believe I am outspoken, and it has got me into a couple of sticky situations. And bravery? Well, bravery borderlining on stupidity, judging by a few trips into the Forests. I still have some scars which will never heal. Overall, this potion taught me a lot about myself, which I had never thought before. It was a fun thing to do.
She put her quill down, and reread her paper. Yes, that would have to do wouldn't it? She sat back in her chair and relaxed.
Teacher's Notes: Interesting essay with honest comments although rather short. 18/20 or 85%.

Brites sat in her seat and waited patiently for the teacher to finish telling the assignment. She then read the pages she was told to and took a vial from the front.
Slowly, Brites put a drop of the Reading Potion onto a strand of her hair that she had pulled out a moment before.
She watched the hair closely until it changed colors. It became a vibrant red. She smiled slightly and took out parchment and a quill. She immediately started writing.
Brites O'Roric Slytherin House Reading potion Assignment
As I placed a drop of the potion onto my hair i watched it for a reaction. It took a moment, but it finally turned a brilliant cherise color. I believe that this red color fits me very well. I am both outspoken, and i'd like to think myself brave.
I have dared to wrestle my brother, though that is a lame example. I have tried to fight a fire by myself as well before.
As for outspoken; I am always ready to give my opinion. Such as of this class. I do believe we should be making the potions, but I still enjoy this activity to get to know us better.
Brites placed her quill down and sat staring again at the sanguine strand on her desk.
Teacher's Notes: Though rather on the short side, good job. Also thank for your honest opinion about this class. 18/20 or 85%.
