Wilting Rose smoothed out her deep crimson robes, trimmed with gold stars that tinkled gently as she walked through the double doors into the Dance Hall, and up onto the stage where she stood before the whole student body.
She raised her arms for silence, and they all turned to look at her. Rose took a moment to feel pleased at her decorating talent - the hall had four Christmas trees, each one decorated with the colours of a particular house, and along the ceiling bowers of greenery glittered with hidden fairies, watching over the festivities. Light snow fell from the ceiling, but melted into nothingness before it reached the top of the students' heads. And hidden in various alcoves and corners were pieces of mistletoe - not infested with Nargles - that Rose placed as a secret sort of surprise for those who would discover it. Smiling broadly, she cleared her throat.
"Welcome, everyone, to the Christmas Ball!"
The crowd applauded and cheered her, and Rose glowed with pleasure - since her return she had done everything in her power to make up for lost time, and by the looks of it, it had been to good effect.
"You've all worked hard this term, and it's time to let your hair down and have a good time - there's plenty of refreshments around the edge of the hall, feel free to help yourself. Have a good night everybody, and have a Merry Christmas!" With that, Rose swept off the stage, grinning to herself, as the band struck up a lively tune behind her.

Ashlle had come to the Ball immediately after giving Christmas presents out in the Great Hall. I wonder if anyone will ask me to dance this year. she thought as she finished clapping for the Headmistress. She also wonder what happened to ousted co-head Claire but having never gotten an answer to her owl she had stopped thinking about it. The Poor Head had obviously gotten eaten or something. Tonight Ashlee was dressed in a red Gothic style gown, with golden accents and a gold and red hairpiece and jewelry. even thought she was rather small it was very becoming and she was rather hoping someone would teller how good she looked if not ask her to dance with them. OOC: like this only with gold where the black is.

((ooc: I haven't finished the thread where I make the ice sculptures, but since they are meant for this, I guess the time frame puts them here))
The ghost smiled, pleased to see Wilting Rose smiling broardly in life as well as in ice. It had proven difficult to get colours to get into the ice, so the entire amount of colour in each of her pieces was concentrated in the eyes. She was as pleased with her effort towards this night as Rose was with her own.
She knew she would probably not be getting compliments on the ice sculptures though, it would be difficult for anyone to find her, even if they somehow discovered that it was she who had made them. The phantomess had received a few compliments from passing students as she had made the forms, and that was enough. She could see that some of the flushed faces were looking up into frozen ones, smiling admiringly.
The ghost's location was marked by a sort-of person-shaped patch of frost on one of the stone walls - she was hiding inside it. It occured to her to wonder yet again how many would look upon their own form translated into ice. And she wondered again if they would appreciate it, after all, she hadn't actually asked.

A pair of socks and a satsuma had been presents off her parents that year. At least they remembered Hayzie grinned, looking in the mirror and deciding how she should dress for the Christmas Ball that evening. Admittedly she had to find something which would look glam while she was in a wheelchair.... with sparkling green eyes and a flick of her wand, tinsel appeared on the wheelchair handles and little plastic figures on the spokes of her wheels. "A little better," she laughed, looking back into the mirror. Shouldn't take long at all.
~*~
Later that evening, Hayzie descended down the steps with help of a levitating spell, and looked around the corridor outside the Dance Hall. Amy was supposed to meet her there, and she was a little early. In the mirror immediately outside, the blonde girl smiled at her reflection. Straight blonde hair with a few small curls framed a thin face, a single piece of holly clipping a little of her hair back. A simple silver necklace hung from her neck, leading down to the neckline of a similarily plain green dress, bringing out the renewed sparkle of her eyes. How she loved Christmas. It gave her the chance to be with friends and celebrate. There was never anything wrong with that. Donning her feet were a pair of green ballerina flats with little snowflakes on the buckles.
Make up had been simple. A little glitter, some white eyeshadow and clear lipgloss did the trick. In the mirror, she looked completely innocent. Though, having been voted the most mischevious student in the school, her wand which was hidden in a pouch on the side of her chair would most definitely not be unused that night.
"Amy.. where are you?" Hayzie asked, drumming her newly manicured fingers against the arm of the wheelchair.

"Patience is a virtue, Ms. Hayzie-belle."
Amy smiled as she came out from behind the hallway, where she had been inspecting an odd looking spot in the dark maroon carpet that quirked her curiousity. Upon finding it was merely a bit of spilt blue ink, she had come back to the Great Hall to find Hayzie.
Amy herself had cleaned up rather nicely. Her bruises and scratches healed, she had found a strapless black dress with a light blue slit up the left side that matched her hair almost perfectly, which was pulled up into an ornate bun with a few curls framing her face in a delicate fashion. Her eyes were not framed with their usual glasses, but replaced with contacts. They were powdered with a silvery eyeshadow, as was the bottom of her eye. Her neck and wrists were decorated with silver bangles that jingled slightly as she walked. And on her feet were simple black heels.
Amy took a few more steps toward where her friend Hayzie waited and smiled broadly. It had been awhile since she had spent a bit of quality time with her friends, and she was greatly looking forward to it. When she reached Hayzie, she laid a hand on hers.
"Are you ready hun? Cause I am when you are."

Evence's jaw could have fallen off that night at the sight of the decorations her first night at the castle and she has the privilege to come to such and amazing Dance. She was nothing spectacular herself though. She had tied her deadlocked hair into a ponytail and pulled of her usual bandanna for the evening. Owning very few cloths for such occasions as this she had to improvise by wearing her nicest purple ankle length skirt, a gold cloth belt for decoration and a clean white undershirt that made her look simple but better than usual.
This had to be the most aw some timing to come to a school.

A slightly tall Slytherin girl walked through the doors of the Dance hall, eyes to the floor. Her hair, which was the color of a raven's feathers and as soft as one's down, long, straight, and tidy, framed the grl's slender face, bringing out the slight, natural paleness of her skin. Her deep emeral eyes stared ahead, as of one deep in thought, the depths of the eyes filled with wonder and dreams. On the outward appearance, she would seem sad, but that is certainly, if one were to speak with her, not the case. The robes that she wore on this occasion were of a soft, deep black velvet. The sleeves were wide at the ends, tapering slimmer at the shoulder. The hands-ends of the sleeves and the hem of the robe were rimmed with a twisted, intricate pattern of blood red, brighter red, and silver threads, snakelike and interweaving into a knotwork of strange-looking shapes. (something, but not exactly, like This.) One finger upon her right hand was adorned with a silver ring, set with a deep red garnet--her favorite metal, and favorite stone. On her left wrist was a simple silver bracelet, the chain remarkably resembling a serpent. It was studded here and there with real rubies and black stones of some sort. Around her neck was another silver, serpentlike chain with a pendant that shifted shape from a serpent's head with emerald eyes, to a wicked dragon's skull with a black diamond on the forehead, to a small bat with garnet eyes. Raising her head, Galanor swept into the hall, taking in the lavish, beautiful decoration. She stared at long the wondrous ice sculpture, never before having seen anything so beautifully carved. She gave a silent gesture of appreciation and walked on. She saw the Christmas trees, noticing the color schemes to each, gazing at long the Slytherin and Gryffindor trees. She stood out of the middle of the hall, out of the way. She wondered vaguely is anyone would ask her to dance. Right... ask ME to dance.... Though.... it would be.... actually... rather pleasant, I suppose. she thought to herself. Shrugging, she crossed the room to a refreshment table abd got herself a goblet of pumpkin juice to sip as she watched the crowd. She knew that Christmas was nearly over, but why not enjoy it? She gave a faint, almost unnoticeable smile as she watched figures pass. This was her first real entrance in with the school.... and she wanted to make something of it.

"Since when did I have pa-whoa you're looking nice," Hayzie grinned at her friend. Last time the blonde had seen her, Amy looked a little worse for wear, but now... she looked amazing.
"I think I'm ready," Hayzie replied with a nod. The evening was purely to socialise with friends, something she had put on hold while she tried to catch up with studies in hopes to pass her end of year NEWTs. After all, she couldn't dance. Smiling and nodding at her friend, Hayz nodded again. "I'm ready. Let's go."
Letting her wand give the two girls a double door entrance, with fireworks and all, Hayzie nodded to her friend before wheeling herself in. The Dance Hall looked the best she had ever seen it. A real Winter Wonderland. "Whoa..." Hayz repeated, blinking in astonishment. "Not bad... not bad at all.."

Amy smiled at her friend's compliment, blushing slightly. "You look great yourself, dear."
As Hayzie opened the doors that led to the Dance Hall, Amy followed her inside, lifting her dress slightly so she wouldn't tread on it. It was nearly empty so far, but she had a good feeling that it would be full by the end of the night. She took a minute to admire all the amazing decorations that Rose had put up (the magical snow was her favorite.) Feeling up to a long night of dancing, Amy turned to Hayzie, her smile a bit broader.
"So, what do you wanna do, Hayz?"

"You'd best find yourself a handsome partner to dance the night away with," Hayzie smiled, her green eyes flashing with regret for a moment. However, she had a plan which would hopefully not only make her night more interesting, but some other people's, as well.
Though it was true the hall was almost empty, Hayzie and Amy being amongst the first few to arrive, the blonde knew that some of the girls especially had spent a long part of the day preparing, sorting out hair, make up, dresses, giggling about possible partners, and more.
The hall certainly would not stay quiet long, and hopefully, she could assist with that.

Post by Sirese Prince on Dec 27, 2005 14:22:54 GMT
Sirese stood off in the doorway quietly admiring the magical handy work that the headmistress had put into the ball. The snow was a think of beauty and made him smile and he was sure would do the like to anyone regardless of moods. He watched Professor Stevens enter the room with a girl in a wheelchair and his smile faded lightly. 'Thats a little cruel isn't it?' he thought to himself as he watched the girl. He of course could tell she was happy but the look that crossed her face was not easily hidden from someone who was thinking along the same line. It was now he wished he had read the book his grandfather had given him for his last birthday sooner. Magic was a wonderful thing and old magic was far better but also harder to learn and dangerous if the spell was not done right. He slide his hand into his pocket looking for the little green back book that bore the slytherin symbol on it, Slytherins his family all had been himself included. He knew the girl was a gryffindor and a prefect if his memory served him correctly as he had seen her about in the halls on the sparse occasion he was not studying for his classes. He fumbled in his cloak pocket for a several moments before pulling the green book from it stuffing his wand back into his pocket as it now hung loosely out nearly falling before he placed it back inside. He began to flip threw the pages quickly looking to see if a certain spell was there, he had only seen it done once before in a case like this. His grandmother had been very ill and crippled due to old age but during one dance three years ago she had her chance to dance again, only a few weeks before her death. His grandfather has mastered many powerful spells and created many more. He remembered seeing the spell but could not remember how one performed it and it was dangerous if misused. His grandfather has trans-placed his grandmother's mind into a doll like puppet that toke on her very image, down to her tiniest wrinkle, the spell was only for a few hours but they had been able to dance as they had not in nearly 6 years. He found the writing that he was looking for and smiled to himself as he watched the girl again. It would be hard to do but would she like to? He could give her back her legs for a few hours but what after that, would she really feel the handicap of not being able to use her legs once again? He had to try at least, it was Christmas after all a time for smiles and laughter not dwelling on the pain or sorrows of one's life. He walked toward her marking the page with a crimson silk page marker that formed the letters Pg256 on the end to show the page number as he stuffed it into his pocket. He coughed a little to clear his throat and blushed a little at how this would sound and what was more was what if he could not perform it just right, after all he had only seen it done once before. "Err hi" He said as he came to a stop a few feet from the girl. "Hi my name is Sirese." He greeted her with a smile but with a nervous flush across his face. OOC: Looks like that expect the white is jade green

Krista was excited about the Christmas Ball. It was sure to be exciting and as interesting as ever. She had forgot to ask Galanor or Dante if they had planned on going, but she was sure they were to show up. she would find them there. Galanor was absent from the dormitries as Krista scrambled around, getting ready.
She showered quickly, and used a drying spell on herself and her hair. She had decided on wearing a lime green dress, lined with silver sparkles around the edges. It was a halter dress, and the green turned into black around her neck. AS you went down the dress, the color also turned into a darker green until it fell into black at the very bottom. Krista liked it a lot.
She changed into her dress and turned her attention to her make-up and hair. She used a simple spell to straighten her black hair. She re-added the green streaks to her hair, which were starting to fade out. She began to rummage throuhg hre make-up products to find somehing good.
She applied light black eyeliner, and put on light green eyeshadow that sparkled. After a little blush and lip gloss, she was satisfied. She went to her desk and grabbed a silver necklace with a snake on the bottom that she had gotten for christmas, and added it to her outfit.
She stood in front of the mirror to admire her appearance. "Wonderful," she decided and headed to the door.
After getting through the crowd of students in the common room and the corridors, she reached the entrance to the hall. Many kids were gathered outside, waiting for their friends or dates. Krista didn't have a date. It was so much easier; if someone wanted her to dance with her, they could just ask.
She walked into the Great Hall, whic hwas decorated magnificently. Krista admired the Hall, decorated even with a tree for each house, and snow fell from the sky. She didn't have to brush it away, though, because it seemed to melt before hitting thier heads. 'Very smart'.
Krista could see some mistletoe, hidden very well, but not escaping Krista's good vision. "Very nice," she said aloud, before walking further into the hall.
She immediatley spotted Galanor, but decided to get some food first. she wandering over to the table and grabbed a mug of butterbeer. She sipped it while listening the music play.

Post by Sylph on Dec 27, 2005 18:55:52 GMT
Sylph never had been comfortable with balls and proms. Not only was she terrible at the whole 'formal' thing, but she was a die-hard tomboy, unaccustomed to the point of instant discomfort in the matter of high-heels, dresses and even simple skirts. Dress robes would have been bearable, but oh no, not this year. Sylph had nearly had a fit when she found that this Christmas the heads of MH had seen fit to request that everyone come clad in muggle formal wear. And that meant dresses. And heels. And make-up. No way, Jose. No way, not a chance in heck. Nope, Sylph O'Dell, scornful to the last of all things girly, was not going to this little soiree. Not a chance.
Then why - oh why oh why - did she now find herself at the doors to the dance hall, peeking hesitantly around the corner to see if anyone else had yet arrived? This kind of thing was not for her - and just look at the way she was dressed. Nope, she was not going. Oh lord why didn't she come with someone else? If she entered the hall alone, people would see her like, well, this.
To be honest, any onlooker would not see how out of place Sylph felt in her garb. Quite the contrary, she had the figure to pull of any dress, any outfit, and the one she had chosen looked quite frankly stunning, not that Sylph knew any of this. Her usually bright purple locks had been toned down back to their natural black for the evening, curled and pinned back with a silver hairpiece that allowed her long tresses to tumble cloud-like over her bare shoulders. The dress she wore consisted of a corseted top and a straight silk skirt in almost impossibly dark green that changed shade as it moved, shifting from pure black to forest green to iridescent strains of emerald and jade. Silver designs snaked over the material, but could only be made out at a glance at the bust and straps. The overall effect was to give Sylph the appearance of one who was clothed in water, like some nyaid born of the sea. She wore heels, but low ones, and the shoes themselves, in plain black, were simple strappy things so that even Sylph had little trouble walking in them.
Despite her stunning appearance, though, Sylph would have given anything to be back in her Doc Martens and jeans. Slowly and with great self-consciousness, she entered the Dance Hall, her skirt swishing softly at her feet. There was a band on the stage, and not a bad one at that. For a moment Sylph's flashing peridot eyes rested on the players, a small smile curving at her lips - music was always a thing to loose yourself in, no matter how uncomfortable you felt. After a minute or two, however, Sylph's attention came back to the floor. Ashlle was there, looking rather grand, and there was Hayzie with another girl - or woman? - in blue. Sylph decided to go greet them.
"I know that glint in your eye, Hayzie Roberts," Sylph grinned in her characteristic way as she approached. The Gryffindor prefect had something planned, she was sure of it. Never one to shy away from tricks or chaos, Hayzie was sure to have something up her sleeve for tonight, but Sylph would not pry further; it was so much more... entertaining to have it be a surprise. She turned her glittering gaze to her friend's blue-haired companion. Of course, Sylph had yet to meet the new professor, and treated her as if she were only another student.
"Nice to meet you," she smiled. "I don't recognise you, but my name's Sylph." She gestured vaguely at her dress.
"And, err, for the record, I don't usually look like this."not quite the dress, but close --> i3.photobucket.com/albums/y51/bluestarfish/green_dress1.jpg

Galanor took another sip of her juice and scanned the crowd, seeing the door open out of the corner of her eye. Ah, Krista.. She thought. The only person she'd really ever met so far in her small amount of time here... She suposed that she really needed to spread out more into the school. Shrugging, she turned away from Krista and continued to study the ice sculptures that were so admirable.

So far, Ashlle had seen only one boy enter the Dance Hall, and he had almost immediately go over to Hayzie. That's good thought Ashlle I'm sure she'll be happy to know she can still catch boy's eyes. The boy was much to tall for Ashlle to dance with anyway.
Just then Ashlle saw Sylph enter the ball looking quite literally amazing. But while she seemed to notice Ashlle for a moment, she too soon went over and spoke to Hayzie. It's Hayzie's night tonight! she thought, waiting for the next person to show up.
