With a small, confident smile, Adia glided through the Ministry. The witches and wizards in the Atrium were too busy running around with stackfuls of paperwork and getting frustrated at the memos that kept flying around their heads to notice the girl that was a head shorter than everybody else, weaving her way between them, and making a beeline for the Ministeress' office.
As Adia reached the double wooden doors, she paused to trace her finger over the brass plaque that bore the name of her once-dearest friend - Kiki Michaels. Wasting no more time, she rapped sharply on the door, and entered.

Kiki looked up as the door was rapped on. She was taking a moment to relax and was sure that she didn't have an appointment for another half an hour. The morning as the Ministry had been more catostophically busy than usual, and no-one had any idea why. Rumours were flying thick and fast about a group of rebels who were going to try and attack Magic Horizons, and Kiki had done her best to quash what she could of them, but she couldn't completely squish every thought of every witch and wizard.
And truth be told, those rumours buzzed around her head. There was even a rumour - one of the more ridiculous ones - that this mysterious group was going to try and attack the Ministry as well. As that rumour had spread, the media had jumped on it faster than you could say 'free Honeydukes chocolate' and the lastest piles of parchment on Kiki's desk were requests for interviews and exclusive statements that Kiki couldn't give until she'd had a proper meeting with the Wizenmagot. Even those witches and warlocks had seemingly heard the rumours and every official owl Kiki had sent out returned with urgently written letters about the needs and safety of themselves and their families.
Some of the Ministry officials were calling them the Death Eaters, although Kiki had pointed out several times that no deaths had happened yet. She had realised that no matter what she said, the society would form their own ideas and opinons.
Kiki realised that the person was still standing opposite the door, and looked up to call come in when she noticed Adia standing in the doorway. The door had obviously swung open soundlessly as Kiki lost herself in her thoughts. Kiki smiled at her best friend.
"D," Kiki greeted her warmly. "Come in, sit down," She gestured to the seat in front of her desk and waited for Adia to reveal the purpose of her visit.

Adia smiled, satisfied to see that Kiki's hesitance of their last meeting had disappeared - as far as the Ministeress knew, they were still the very best of friends.
Knowing that she was going to have to play up to the role to the best of her ability, Adia allowed a rare smile to cross her face - a bright, happy one that transformed her entire thin, pale form into one much brighter. She walked over to the desk and sat in the comfortable chair opposite Kiki, playing with the sleeve of her school robes as she fixed the Ministeress with her glitterig black eyes.
"Hey Ki," she said cheerfully, relaxing against the back of the chair. "I hope I didn't interrupt anything... I just thought I would drop in to see how you were doing... we said we'd arrange some time to meet up but we never did, so... here I am!"

Kiki picked up two things quickly. First the playing of her sleeve - she had never seen Adia do it before and recongised it immediately as a sign of some sort of nervousness. The second was the cheery tone in her voice. It was not that Adia had never been cheerful, of course not, however, after their last meeting, and the rumours flying around, Kiki felt a feeling of foreboding settle over her shoulders, an uncomfortable load that made Kiki feel nervous. She shouldn't be mistrusting her best friend, even though she knew that if any kind of rebellious act was happening, Adia could be a part in it, and most likely was.
Trying to push those thoughts out her mind, Kiki allowed her gaze to be locked in with Adia's.
"No worries," Kiki replied, returning the cheerful smile with a grin. "You interrupted nothing too important. Nothing that couldn't wait, anyway. How have you been lately?"

Adia stopped at Kiki's question. If she was going to do this, she would going to have to be honest to a certain extent... otherwise Kiki would never believe her. Nothing was ever fine with Adia, so she let the word crumble before it reached her lips and shrugged half-heartedly.
"OK, I guess. I bumped into a Vampire the other day who said he'd met Red on his travels, which brought back a lot of memories and..." She trailed off, sighing softly. "I don't know. Guess this is why I'm here - hearing about her just made me remember all the good times I used to have, with her and then with you... It's been a little bit lonely lately."
She raised her gaze hesitantly. "Sorry, I shouldn't be going on... how have you been?"

Kiki's smile fell, at the mention of Adia's loneliness. It was strange how the two girls could be so alike. Almost everyone that was important in Kiki's life had left her at some point, returning briefly and disappearing again.
"I know exactly how you feel," Kiki murmured under her breath. Kiki paused, wondering how to answer D's question.
"Busy," She said, glancing around at the parchment on her desk and breaking into a bigger smile. "I guess I'm letting some of my Ministry work distract me from some other things," Kiki sighed and realised that she hadn't offered Adia anything to eat or drink.
"Sorry, I'm out of it today. Did you want anything to eat or drink?" Kiki smiled almost apologetically, but refrained. Something told her that Adia wouldn't really mind.

Adia knew she had struck gold by revealing her own displacement to the Ministeress - it seems she had been feeling quite the same... though it was hardly surprising. Humans had a way of feeling so completely alone, no matter whose company they were in... a self-pitying habit Adia fiercely intended to rid them of in the final transition.
Adia smiled wanly at Kiki. "I'd quite like a glass of water, my throat is feeling a little sore today - but I'm not hungry, thanks."
Adia's gaze travelled around the room, feeling impressed once again at the great status her old friend had managed to achieve for herself. Ministeress of Magic. It was almost too hard to believe... after everything Kiki had been through, she was given rewards beyond her dreams, while Adia was being forced to repeat her sixth year because she failed it after the Acerbus incident.
Her eyes then fell on the papers on Kiki's desk. "So you've got a lot of work to do, huh? Anything interesting?"
She looked up with a vaguely innocent expression.

Kiki tapped the desk and a glass of water appeared in front of Adia, one also appearing in front of herself. She picked it up and took a small sip, blinking at Adia's next question.
"Not really," Kiki replied, poking the sheets of parchment littered about her desk absently. "Just dealing with a few rumours that have been gaining popularity of late," She gave Adia a small apologetic smile, the meaning a little more then not catching up with her.
"I've been meaning to ask," Kiki wondered if she could get away with asking this. "Who were you sending the letter off to that day we met in the Owlery?"

Unflinching, Adia smiled and folded her hands across her lap.
"Oh, just an interesting character I met while on my travels after - you know, the incident in the Forest. He was an old mage who lived on the outskirts of an enchated mountain... he helped me get across without difficulty. I just needed to thank him for keeping me safe."
Adia fixed Kiki with a strangely cold look, noticing the awkwardness with which she had asked the seemingly innocent question. "Why do you ask?"

The mention of the forest incident still managed to fill Kiki with guilt. She knew that it had been through no fault of her own, but there was a part of her that insisted she was responsible for it.
She bit her lip to stop her from apologising, surely Adia must realise by now she was truly sorry for it, took another sip of her water and answered the question that was swung her way.
"I was just wondering," Kiki replied honestly, picking up on the iciness of the stare. "It was a huge bird, and I was curious."

Adia smiled tightly. "Yes, well, like I said, it would've had to fly over an enchanted mountain - I needed a bird strong enough for the journey."
She sighed softly, and let her eyes fall once more upon the desk. "So... these rumours, what are they about then? I haven't heard anything... but you know me, not exactly sociable, am I?"
She smiled at her friend.

Kiki allowed herself a small smile and a shrug at Adia's comment. She was unsure of whether or not she could tell the truth to Adia. After all, she had reached an assumption that Adia could have something to do with this rebel group, if it was a bunch of students. Even if it wasn't, Adia could still be somehow involved. Trying to push these thoughts from her mind, Kiki wanted to let Adia have a clean slate. She realised with a jolt that she felt obliged to give her one as repayment for what had happened in the forest, when she was suddenley the power-hungry b**** that had tried to exercise her 'authority' over a girl who was suffering from hard amnesia.
She decided to say a little of the truth.
"Just some rumours that the Death Eaters have reformed and are terrorising the community. These have all gone way out of proportion and everyone is acting mad," She sighed and flicked a piece of parchment sitting crookedly on her desk.

Adia widened her eyes in a look of astonishment.
"Really? Wow... hadn't heard that one," said Adia quietly, sinking into deep thought about it. She wasn't sure who else was working for Danawi - but it was quite possible that he had lured a few Death Eaters with promise of power. Frowning, she looked back up at Kiki.
"Is there any truth to these rumours? I mean... that could cause some trouble for the Ministry, not to mention the school," said Adia, looking concerned.

Kiki sighed. Inwardly she felt that Adia's reaction was plausible, maybe she was reading too much into too little?
"I honestly have no idea. I guess they are always possible, although you can never confirm it until you have information from a reliable source," Kiki tapped her fingers absently on the desk.
"We haven't gotten any word that say there's any truth to these rumours, so people should disregard them -" Kiki stopped short and an almost embarrassed grin spread across her face.
"Sorry, I've gone all businesslike. I have to make a statement to the Daily Prophet later on and that's part of it," She explained. "But yes, trouble for the school and Ministry. Some of them think there's going to be an attack on the Ministry," Kiki chose not to make a further comment on that.

"An attack on the Ministry?" It was too difficult for Adia to withold a smile now. Her dark eyes sparking maliciously, she chuckled softly. "Imagine that."
She held out her pale hand, and from her palm a ball of crackling flames appeared, hesitated for only a second, then shot out, vine-like, towards the Ministeress, wrapping itself tightly around her body and over her mouth so she could not scream. With a casual movement of Adia's hand, the flames pulled her onto the desk where she lay in the grip of Adia's elemental power.
"You really should update the level of security in here, Ki," said Adia, a slight grin on her face as she surveyed her helpless friend. "You only have an alarm triggered for wand-based magics... surely experience should have taught you that isn't wise."
Turning her back on the Ministeress, she closed her eyes and reached out with her mind, trying to locate the third party in this attack. As she found him, she spoke psychically into his mind; It is time.
She lifted her gaze and glanced around the room. It was airy and bright - not many shadows existed large enough for her and Kiki to move themselves across time and space. Eventually she decided that the desk itself created a large shadow, if she and Kiki could crouch low enough it should be easy to simply melt away... though this would be the first time she'd tried travelling with a passenger.
"Come on, we've got people to meet," said Adia, pulling on the connection of flame between her palm and Kiki's bound body. Kiki fell to the floor with a loud thud, and Adia quickly crouched by her side, squeezing them into the shadows.
She had just heard a voice mutter outside the door, and saw the handle turn, when the pair melted away, leaving nothing behind but an empty office.
