Animagi, as stated more than once in the popular book series by JK Rowling that this wonderful site is based off of, are exceedingly rare and strictly monitored. Becoming an Animagus takes a tremendous amount of skill and effort - almost no one can pull it off. How incredibly unrealistic is it that a bunch of young characters suddenly show up, with very little developmental background, claiming to be Animagi? Not at all. First I suggest you read the books. Then, IM me if you decide you would like this prestigious status, and we'll see if your character has enough development and quality to be worthy of holding that title so few attain. Alrighty? Alrighty. Whether or not you didn't bother to read anything before you posted in this thread, or whether you just chose to ignore it, I would like to point out yet again that an Animagus status is incredibly hard to attain and closely monitored. In the books, we have the Ministry of Magic to keep tabs of things. On these boards, that's also what we do. Since so many people have decided that they all want their student character to have a power that many adult wizards are not capable of obtaining, we have decided to resort to the measures quoted above to keep things more realistic. Yes, there are bounds of realism to be followed, even in a fantasy RPG. Perhaps especially in a fantasy RPG. I'm sorry, but we really have to tamp down on this, it's getting a bit ridiculous. And as a matter of fact, Mer? I suggest that maybe you lock this thread. It seems to be going nowhere. Edit: ....Yes. What Cole said. He beat me to it.

I agree... I could kind of understand if it were people who have been on the site for a few months, but all the people asking are newbies...

*chuckles* Yes, exactly. Thank you, Chris.
That was where the whole "lemming" thing came in.
Edit: Yes, that too, Faerlain. People, before you decide you want ANY special powers, go out and roleplay. Get character development. That is, after all, the point of this site.

Ahh, yes. Much better.
Anyhow, love, I think your Head Auror may be right, locking the thread seems to me a good idea as people are just not getting it.[/b] And THAT is a polite understatement. *rolls eyes*

Why doesn't ANYONE appreciate or even take any bloody notice of the little things I do around this bloody place? There are RULES in the Entrance Hall that CLEARLY state that special powers are only granted in very special circumstances, and I'm pretty damned sure that includes Animagi, especially as the Goddess JK Rowling said herself that they are extraordinarily rare!!
Deal with the fact that you are just regular witches and wizards! Isn't the fact you've been given the power of MAGIC enough for you? For crying out loud, if I was granted that one[/b]single thing, my entire life would be worth living, it would mean everything to me, I would die a VERY happy woman (or witch, I guess...)
Just be happy with what you have.
It's the key to real happily-ever-afters.

Um, WR, I can understand you're upset and everything, so I just want to say here and now that I respect your wishes, and will follow your judgement. I simply want a ruling, if that is alright?
I was one of the first so called animagi, back on the old MH. I gained my powers through several hours of roleplaying.
I asked for, and recieved permission from Claire, before I started, and to balance my character, I stated that Rowan is tremendously gifted with Tranfiguration, but cannot cast a single Charm, Hex, or Curse. I have made a point to never deviate from this self-imposed rule, and I would gladly show you any thread at all if you wish to see them.
I ask because being an animagi has become an intergral part of Rowan's character, a character that used to be highly respected by the members on this site, before I was forced to take a hiatus during the summer. I wish to know if I may keep my powers. If not, as I said before, I will respect your wishes, in all things. This site would not be here if it were not for you.
EDIT: Firstly, I want to say thanks for the people who have been supporting my chracter throughout this thread, especially in my forced absense. Secondly, I do not wish for this to become an issue, if it does, then I will gladly kill off Rowan. As someone who has played D&D for upwards of 15 years, I have DM'ed many a game in my time. NOTHING is more important to a fun time for all than game balance, and that is what this thread has really become about. Again, thank you to those who have supported me.

Rowan, my problem is not with you - you have always been an animagus, and if either of the Headmistresses has previously approved your application to become an Animagus, then you are already in the clear. All others are to please stop roleplaying their Animagus powers, or punishments will be administered for not adhering to rule number 3 of the Official MH Rules.
This thread will now be locked.
