Persephone marched happily down to the Quidditch pitch. The Crimson Firebolt slung over her back. It was her baby, and she took good care of it. It meant a lot to her, and she didn't want anything to happen to it.
She looked around, the pitch was empty and that was good. Keelin Rellin and herself would have it all to theirselves when they started.
Persephone looked around for the shadow of Keelin. She could have sworn that the girl was right behind her, but now she couldn't find a trace of her.
She pulled her hairback into a ponytail to waste sometime. She pulled it tight, knowing that if she didn't her hair would probably be down with in a few seconds.
She sat down on the pitch, her small body looking even smaller now that she was sitting down. She hoped her friend would be able to spot her.

Keelin had skipped down to the quidditch pitch, but had lost sight of Sephe. She looked around until she saw her and then she went hell's bell's to reach her.
"Sorry, got a bit lost in the crush of people." Keelin explained sheepishly.
She swung the broom off her shoulder - Keelin had carried the borrowed broom the same way Sephe had been carrying hers - and stood at what she thought might be the ready.
"So, what now?" Keelin couldn't wait to fly. It was something she dreamed of so often, she culd hardly believe she was really going to find out what it was like for real.

"Well, I guess we'll start from the beginning stuff. Just put the broom on the ground, if it'll go down, it might not. And then yell up!"
Persephone was taking her own broom off her back while she talked. The Crimson Firebolt made a little attempt at "up" and wacked her in the back. She made a mental note not to give that command while teaching again.
'It might just hover about hip height for you though. Sometime's its in a good mood and does that."
She smiled and said "up" again, and this time her broom was off her back. It jumped from the ground into her outstreched hand, hovering at hip height.
"Just like that!" she said smiling at Keelin.

Keelin watched, and stifled her giggles when the broom hit Sephe in the back. It wasn't really nice to laugh at people like that, she knew, but it was just a little on the comical side.
Carefully, Keelin put the broom down, then extended her hand over, and said "Up."
It came into her hand, but decided to hover at waist hieght, rather than hip hieght.
"Not that up." She said to it, like it was a playful kitten only half doing what it was told.
She was a little surprised when it went down to hip-hieght, but then Sephe was probably glaring at it from her own place, and the correction had nothing to do with Keelin herself.
She smiled over to Sephe.
"Do I just climb on now? It seems too simple." And nothing was ever that easy.

Haycee had been at Magical Horizons for just over a month now, yet she had never been down to the Quidditch Pitch before. That was partly due to the fact that the place held some fear for her. Since Haycee was a muggle-born witch, she had been born and raised in the muggle world by her parents who thought magic was a bunch of hogwash. In fact, Haycee wasn't sure exactly who in her family posessed magic or who she got to be a witch when there was no apparent witches or wizards in her family. Perhaps there was a family member that she never knew who was a witch or wizard - it was a mystery she had to figure out.
But enough about that. Haycee told herself as she brought herself back to the present. She glanced at her Cleansweep broom by her side and took a deep breath. Was she really ready for this? Well, you can't put it off forever, Haycee told herself, Eventually you're going to have to learn how to fly and get over your fear!
Haycee walked further down the Quidditch Pitch and finally spotted Persephone and Kellin. Persephone! Keelin! Haycee's face brightened up as she was relieved to see her two friends there. She had wondered if she had actually the guts to try to attempt to fly alone, and now felt more comfortable as she was among friends.
"Hey Persephone! Hey Keelin! How are you?" Haycee said cheerfully. "What are you two doing?" Haycee asked curiously, hoping that she wasn't interrupting them.

Persephone was about to answer Keelin when she heard Haycee's voice. Instead of yelling over to her friend, she waved her over. She turned back to Keelin smiling.
"Yep, just swing your leg over, but be careful not to lose balance."
Persephone swung her left leg over her broom. No one ever said what leg you had to swing over, and Persephone had decided that it must have been like horse back riding.
"Now, all you do is just over for a moment. Don't get anxious, just hover. We'll wait for Haycee to come too."

Keelin nodded and did as she was shown and told.
And there she was, hovering on a piece of wood.
Beaming.

Persephone smiled. Keelin was picking this up really fast, which meant that she would soon be soaring around with no problem. It was nice to know that Keelin would be so good at something that brought Persephone so much happiness.
"That's good! I'm so proud of you!"
Persephone beamed at her.
"Good, now just stay up there for a few seconds and get comfortable. Get used to the feeling of the broom."

"So you're teaching Keelin to fly, Persephone? Cool. Um...you wouldn't mind if I...joined in?" Haycee smiled awkwardly, a little embarassed of her lack of flying skills.

"No, not at all! I think it's better this way too!" She smiled happily at Haycee. She noticed the broom on her friend's back and wondered if she would have tried all by herself to learn to fly.
Not a smart thing to do. Something could happen and there would have been no one to help her at all!
"Well, Haycee just put your boom on the ground and yell up! Then steady it. Once it steadied swing one leg over. Think of it as horseback riding...if that helps any."

Haycee smiled at Persephone. "Thanks for helping me. I really appreciate it."
Haycee put her Cleansweep on the ground like Persephone said and yelled 'up'. It gave a weak movement and only made it a few centimeters off the ground. Hmmm...I probably didn't yell loudly enough. Let's try this again...
"Up!" Haycee yelled and this time her broom flew up in the air until it was level with her head. "Ummm...down?" Haycee tried to get her broom lower so she could mount it.
After giving it another try, it hovered around her waist height like it was supposed to. Thank goodness! Now to try and mount it...
Persephone had told her to think of it like horse-back riding. Riding a horse was something Haycee had only done once, at a muggle summer camp. She stradled the broom and held it steady, waiting for Persephone's next instructions.

"Ok,that's really good! Now you're both are you going to go up about three or four inches. Don't panic if you go up more. Just pull slightly on the handle of the broom."
She demonstrated on her own broom. She reached out both hands, and pulled only slightly on the handle. The broom went up four inches and continued to hover.
"Just don't over do it, and you'll be fine. Just remember not to panic, and just relax."
She turned to both girls and smiled happily at them.

OK, here I go... Haycee pulled slightly on her broom handle and it did go up a few inches.
"Whoa!" Haycee exclaimed, surprised of the feeling and glad that she didn't attempt this on her own.
OK, OK...I'm fine. That wasn't too bad... Haycee gave a brave smile to Persephone.

"Like a horse?" Keelin asked herself quietly while Sephe showed Haycee what to do.
Keelin knew about horses, she had worked as a stable hand in so many inns as she travelled, but the broom was not really like a horse. For one, a horse had more room for the bum to get cumfy on.
Oh well. Keelin did as she was told, and lifted the end of the broomstick slightly. It went up, but now that Keelin was really comfortable on the broom, and not in the least worried about falling from the hieght she was at, she wanted more.
Keelin gripped the broom carefully but firmly and tried leaning forward at the same time as tilting the handle up.

Persephone looked at Haycee, who seemed a little unsteady, but getting more used to the broom as time passed.
"That's good. Just hover there for a moment. Get used to the feeling and then try going up a few more inches."
She turned to face Keelin who looked like she was attempting to spurt off after something. Not exactly a smart idea, especially when you were just learning what to do on a broom.
"Keelin, don't lean forward so much or you'll go jetting across the pitch...and you don't know how to stop."
But still Persephone was glad that Keelin seemed to be taking flying really well. She seemed to be a natural at it, which was good.
