I dunno how people will take to this, but I got a suggestion. I think people should have to apply before registering...I know it sounds like it would be a pain, but I've been to other sites that have it, and it works out fairly well. For one thing, it gets rid of all the pointless, power-hungry newbies that we all love oh so much [/sarcasm] - leaving only decent RPers, with realistic characters. Also, people already have to have a character in mind, so they don't have to make it up as they go along.
Anyway, somebody would write up an application, asking for the character's vital stats (age, physical/personality/history descriptions, etc), and then all people wanting to register would have to fill it out and then wait to be accepted before registering.
Any thoughts?

I agree with Ace. As annoying as it gets, and trust me, I'm fully aware it gets annoying, the newbies have just as much right to be here as anyone else.
However, I think the point is that this is an oppertunity for them to learn to write well.
And besides, really, one of the best things about MH is its diversity. One of the most wonderful things about it is that ANYone can come. However, once they get here, they might as well make a very good attempt at using grammar.
It's a difficult thing to balance, but it needs to be balanced, and frankly, I don't think that the applications would do a thing.

I know that I've done my share of complaining and freaking out, but I must admit... I'm actually glad that we have newbies that we can teach/cringe at/ what-not. I mean, it does add a bit of sick entertainment, doesn't it? It spices things up, makes it interesting, because things have been getting pretty slow lately. Maybe because it's summer, the plague plot 'still' hasn't quite picked up enough magnitude (I mean whatever happened to that Vampire Hunter person?!), *shrugs* but even though I've shrieked in frustration, I'm glad we have 'em.

Nuuuu...
I know where this all goes. Trust me, it's not pretty.
I played on this site called Next Horizons. At first it was free for everyone, but then they added a human section (originally it was all horses) and that required acceptance. It slowly got harder and harder to get in, and RPers started to get more and more snobby. While it was really fun, it got really boring because no one could get in anymore. And then the horse section became acceptance only. And now the site has gone to hell.
Not that I think that would happen to this site, but things tend to go down that path. Now that I'm done with that story...
I agree with the statement that everybody has to start somewhere, because I had my VERY humble beginnings. However, in time these people can advance greatly, just with a little guidance. While they could be annoying at first, if we give them time to learn and grow as RPers, the site will only get better.
[/yet another rant]

You've never heard of a wild horse RPG?
Dude, I think I could literally find you a 100 of them.
I won't give you the link to the one I played at, because 1) it's really lame now, and 2) it's no longer uhh... quite child friendly in the human section. *coughs*
Give me a bit and I'll find you some, easy.

Those of you who know me will know that the one rule I will never even consider changing is the one that states we accept everyone.
I have seen other, elitist roleplaying sites, full of over-inflated egos and ten-foot long posts, and I don't ever want this site to become like that. Though we have many good roleplayers, who do post lengthy threads, we also have people who are just as talented in the writing department but who don't need long posts to convey their strength of writing (Kiki, Kezaa, the Valkerie family, etc.), and I don't want MH to become a site that can look down on people simply because of the amount they choose to reply.
What I suppose I'm trying to say is that everybody deserves a part of the magic that comes with belonging to a site like this, and my opinion on this matter will never change. I am sorry if this offends anybody.

Crumpet.... eating role players? I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Heh hem.
*scratches chin*
In some cases I'm a fan of screening, but Rose is right. People need to start somewhere... I just wish we didn't get such a huge flood of newbies all the time. If the flow was a little slower, maybe they'd be RPing with more experienced people and improving their skills. As it is, they are RPing with other such novices and the thing just snowballs.
*shrugs*
Not that it matters much to me - newbs generally either present an adequate dining prospect or an object of torment in my case...
