Professor Metsumi walked into the classroom full of Muggle technology. As he took out his wand, he pointed it to something cube shaped and they transformed into desks.” Well, that’s settled.” the professor said to himself. As he walked toward the desk in the front of the room, he sat down and took out a piece of chalk. He muttered a few words ad threw the chalk to the board. "Muggle Studies-Lesson 1-Home Phones” He said as the chalk wrote what he said on he board.” Well class, I suspect you all have your text books, for they will be an important need in this class."Prof. Metsumi said as he turned to face the class. Oy...This is gonna be tough, there were not this many at the other school. Prof. Metsumi thought to himself. He then took a stack of papers and wrote down all the students’ name.” Well then class, as you can clearly see, we are studying Home Phones. If you have any questions please ask them now. (You may still ask for after this post and stuff)” Prof. Metsumi let the students read for a good ½ hour. “Well I trust you all have read the lesson. Now I will give out an assignment. You must answer the following answers: 1) What is a phone used for? 2) What is the difference between a cordless phone and a regular phone? 3) How does a telephone work? 4) (Optional) Give a one paragraph essay about yourself including your likes and dislikes. Kilik walked in the classroom and sat down opened a piece of parchment and wrote the same essay as in his transfiguration class,
My name is Kilik, I am from Seoul, Korea and I am 14 years old this is my first year a MH, I think its a great place other than that i am pretty normal my favorite subjects, Transfiguration and care of magical creatures. this is my first class so i like them from research I admit Im pretty carefree and tend to skip classess, but that doesn't matter I am a big fan of music and by this essay not a good writer, to sum it up I just wrote a okay essay
"Okay, thats done now for the test", mummbled Kilik
(1)The telephone is used for muggle communication
(2)The regular telephone usesa cord which is connected directly to the telephone line, a cordless called a cellphone uses signals instead of wires. A cordless housephone uses the same principles as a cell phone only it has a base (multi function recharger that takes message instead of the messages going directly to the phone), the cord phone also has a base.
(3)Sound travels down wire the best, so the telephone sends sounds through the speaker and down the wire to the other phone and the reciever hears that sound/voice and does the same thing so it goes >>>>>>>recieve<<<<<<<<<recieve>>>>>>>> ect.
Good,Very good.It is very explanitory.I Like to see that in assignments, good explainations.

Kara walked in shyly and took a seat quickly and read through her textbook the professor assigned them. As she finished reading it she looked up at the board and wrote down the questions and began answering them.
1) What is a phone used for? a phone is used for muggles.
2) What is the difference between a cordless phone and a regular phone? A cordless phone has no wire just an antenna so it can send signals out to the person they are talking to. And a regular phone is connected with a wire and its connected with a phoneline.
3) How does a telephone work? The sound of the person who is calling someone else's phone is sending them the connection of that person's connection and they just go back and forth.
4) Im a big fan of muggle music (lots of them) i enjoy muggle studies, care for magical creatures, and also i love herbology. i dislike Muggle history but i do good in there. My all time favorite class is Defense Against the Dark Arts. Im 15, i live in Waco, Texas. Im not that smart but i try hard enough to answer the questions as good as possible.
Good,But I need to know what a phone is used for.If we are studying it of course it has to do with muggles.

Eleanor leaned forwards as Professor Metsumi began to speak, quite amused as she thought of the Muggles and their little plastic contraptions. After he was finished speaking she fished out her book, taking care to write neatly this time around. She didn't want to be marked down for illegible writing...
Eleanor Sel'shea Muggle Studies - Home phones
1) What is a phone used for? A phone is usually used by muggles so that they can speak to each other while not actually in the same area.
2) What is the difference between a cordless phone and a regular phone? A cordless phone can be carried around, whereas someone who speaks on a regular phone is restricted to the area that the cord will stretch to.
3) How does a telephone work? There are little buttons on the receiver. Each house in the Muggle world is designated a different set of numbers, like a little code. You press the numbers and it calls that house - but you can only really talk to someone if they pick up. How odd. You speak into the bottom and listen at the top.
Essay question...
Eleanor paused, thinking. She had been assigned this little paragraph in many of her classes, and found it hard to write down different versions each time. But she didn't want to simply use her old work from another class for this - she resignedly began to write.
My name is Eleanor Sel'shea, and I was born in France. I attended a number of Muggle primary schools there, along with one other wizarding school for two and a half years. My parents and I decided that it would be good for me to travel, and so I found Magical Horizons. Even though I grew up speaking French, I like to think that I am very good with English as my second language...most of my family is. I think I have a few distant relatives that are either Muggles or Squibs, somewhere around my second cousin's side of the family. I should write them and ask them to explain more about these phones; the textbook is very informative, but I still find myself a bit confused. I think I'll enjoy this class very much!
That was just about right, she decided. She hadn't written anything like that for her other essays - at least not the part about France or her Muggle/Squib relations. Hoping it would do all right to admit that she was confused over the subject, Eleanor stood and quietly gave her paper to the Professor.
Wow...Amazing.

Rozlynn listened intently as the professor spoke and read when he asked them to. She took a deep breath and then began the assignment.
1) A phone is used so that muggles can communicate when they are in different places, kinda like an electrical letter only you hear the person speak.
2) With a regular phone you must remain with in the same place the phone is and with a cordless you are allowed to walk wherever.
3) The person who is talking voice travels through wires to another persons phone so that you may hear them as they are talking.
Essay:
My name is Rozlynn Williams and I am 16 years old. I like to travel but that may be because I always had to travel with my family. My father is a muggle and in the Marines so we were never in one place more than once.
Very, very good. You students know alot about muggles' technology.

Post by Marina Roeswood on Sept 11, 2004 18:51:28 GMT
Muggle studies was one of those classes that Marina knew she would invariably ace. Her grandfather was a muggle, and though they hadn’t been particularly close as of late, she still had quite the contact with the muggle world through him and her grandmother. Overall, there was little she didn’t know on the topic, so the expression on her face when she walked into the class was nothing short of beaming. This was going to be cake.
Her stride was as long as it could be, though her height was quite restricting in that respect. She made it in the door a fair amount of time before the class started, as she always did, and bided her time by watching the clock, sniffling and sneezing at random intervals and trying to be patient. Perhaps she shouldn’t show up so early, but she so scarcely had a friend to stop and talk to that it really made no difference in the end. She sat perfectly straight and ladylike, smiling just slightly as her anticipation grew. The class had the potential to be dull, as she knew almost anything they might learn about, but at least she wouldn’t be wracking her mind unnecessarily.
When the class finally began, she heaved a soft sigh of relief as she listened to the Professor. Nina had quite the knowledge of phones, having used them on several occasions, so this would be as simple as she’d thought. The majority of the reading she did was entirely review and thus quite boring, but still for the entire time the class was silent her eyes scanned over the text on the pages, obviously not enthralled but still doing as she was supposed to. Her mind didn’t focus so much on what she was reading but the room about her. The Professor was yet another new face, and she wondered dully whether or not this class would remain tolerable as she waited for the assignment to be given. As soon as it was, she pulled out her quill, ink and a piece of parchment and began writing, eager to pour out the information.
A little about the Phone By Marina Roeswood
1) A phone is used as a form of communication in the muggle world. The muggles talk into the phone and the person on the other end of the line hears what they say, and replies. This method of communication is nearly like a face to face conversation, except the person is unable to read the body movements of the other, as they can be separated by great distances.’<br> 2) A regular phone has a cord that attaches it to the base, whereas, a cordless phone does not. While the cord on a regular phone stretches, it can be restricting, though you can wander a fair distance while talking on a cordless phone. Cordless phones are also quite easy to lose, so there is generally a button the base that you can push to find the phone by sound.
3) A telephone, whether cordless or not, has buttons on it marked with numbers. To use a phone, one would dial a specific number that connects them to the dwelling of the person they wish to talk to. The phone rings, and generally if the person is there they will pick up and have a conversation. Phones are connected by a large cord system that connects much of the world, and also by wireless messages, though I’m a little iffy on how this all works. The phone itself is an electrical appliance and plugs into an outlet, which connects to wires that connect to energy sources and one another. If the power goes out, the phone cannot be used unless it has it’s own power source, like a battery powered cell phone, for example.
4) I’m Marina Roeswood, one of four Slytherin Prefects, and also a Beater for my house’s quidditch team. I enjoy playing and practicing quidditch as well as attending classes, though I am admittedly not entirely fond of homework. I really don’t have all that much free time anymore, but when I do I like reading and socializing, though I tend to do very little of the latter. All I really want to do in life is exceed, no matter what it is I decide to do down the line. My favorite subjects are Potions and Charms, and my least favorite subject is either herbology or history of magic, though I find that I’m pretty good at them anyway. I originally attended an American school, though I was born in England and lived there until a bit before the beginning of my school career. Less than a year ago I transferred here, and the rest is history.
Grimacing slightly at her work, she didn’t know whether she could have done a better job, but decided that it didn’t really matter much anyway. Coughing into the sleeve of her robes, she looked a bit paler for a moment and then paused to put the stopper back in the ink and put the quill away, standing up with the now dry and ready parchment and handing it to the Professor.
*Still reading*Wow!Excellent!Long!

Morgan walked in, took a seat in the back, looked at her parchment, and then at the assignment. She dipped her quill in her crimson ink and started to write
1) A telephone is used for communication between one muggle and another, when they cannot see one another, and would rather not write a letter.
2) A cordless phone is a telephone you can walk around with, seeing as how it doesn't have a cord (like the name implies) while a normal telephone does not offer that same convinence.
3) The wires are connected to other wires and those are connected to the wires of the other parties, causing the other party to hear, and so on.
4) My name Is Morgana Le'Dire. Morgan will do. I am a former queen, a metamorphamagus, and an elf. I am going to turn seventeen on December 13 and I couldnt love this school more. I am still technically queen of my land and I have suffered the loss of my parents, younger sister, and my boyfriend. She paused as she wrote this, Why was she divulging this information? I have to write it down. I'll feel better. she resumed I am hoping to learn much from this class. She stood and handed in her paper.
Amazing!

Ribbon walked into the class a little aprihensive, she knew it was a little strange that a muggle born girl like her was taking this class but she was really curious about what wizards saw muggles as. She finished reading slightly before teh professor told tehm to begin answering the question and had been doodling quietly on a small scrap of paper. She pulled out a full sheet of parchment to answer the questions and began in her new ink. It was specially designed to not smear even if she dragged her hand over it because of her left-handed-ness.
Telephone Ribbon Valedrawn
1) What is a phone used for?
A phone is used for muggle communication. It is like a distance speech spell but without magic.
2) What is the difference between a cordless phone and a regular phone?
A cordless phone transmits radio waves in the air to its reciever, but a regular phone is attached to its reciever with wires necessitating staying in one place while you talk.
3) How does a telephone work?
A phone transmits electric pulses down a telephone line which is a wire that is turned into audio on the other phone, alternately a wireless or cellular phone uses radio waves traveling through the air to a similar purpose. Each phoneline is coded with a sequence of numbers designating which phone it is and identifying itself to other ohones.
4) Essay
MY name is Ribbon Valedrawn and I am muggle born. I was raised in Del Mar, California, on our ranch, where we breed, raise, and train rare horse breeds. I really enjoy being at Magical Horizons and find everyday to hold new adventures. I took this class to discover more about wizarding society even if it directly studies muggles.
Ribbon checked her writing for smudges and was delighted when she couldn't find the slightest smear. She triumphantly took it up to the teacher carefully hiding her excitement, afraid it would be taken the wrong way and seeming perhaps more humble than usual.
Good.Very good.

Kalista sat here, staring at the questions. She didn’t even know too much about the magical world, let alone the Muggles but she took out her parchment and pen and figured it was about time she learned.
Kalista Karador Slytherin
1) What is a phone used for? Although I am totally unsure of my answer, I believe it to be some sort of communication devise used by the Muggles.
2) What is the difference between a cordless phone and a regular phone? Well, according to what I am told, there is little difference but a cord or not. 3) How does a telephone work? You talk into it and the other person on the other phone talks back, I suppose you can hear though them some how, something about lines and such.
Essay:
My name, as stated above, is Kalista Karador. Karador is not my real last name but adoptive one. A human family adopted me when I was very young. Rather, my mother and father granted the human family to take care of me. I don’t wish to write the details of what happened there on this paper so I will skip that.
I have just recently found out that I am indeed a demon; which would explain quite a lot. I would gather then, that my Demon form is a dragon. Cool huh? I think so, well sortta. It still scares me a bit to have such power, especially when I did not grow up using it. I have come to MH as a ward of the state, but will stay here to hopefully finish my studies and become that doctor I always wanted to be, Demon or not, I can still try, right?

1) What is a phone used for? Muggle Communication
2) What is the difference between a cordless phone and a regular phone? The cordless sends an invisible signal through the air which the phone will receive transferring the verbal and electronic information. Other phones, or ancient phones use cords to transmit the information along wires.
3) How does a telephone work? The voice and or noise is transmitted into electrical impulses and sent through a metallic wire connecting to another device that interprets the impulses and transmits them back to sound causing one person to be able to talk to another person seeming over multiple miles...
4) (Optional) Give a one paragraph essay about yourself including your likes and dislikes.
My name is Prairie Rose and I am from Texas. Today is my first day here and I am trying to get caught up as quickly as possible. I enjoy reading, writing, music, quidditch, all animals and poisonous things. I was born to a long line of purebloods, and have one sister, and one brother. My hair is red and is long past my shoulders, and I have blue eyes, fair skin and am only 5'2. I am looking forwards to getting to know a few people here, and I want to learn as much as possible.

Silver grinned as all the students piled in for Muggle Studies. She was looking forward to this lesson, as it would expand her knowledge of the Muggle World, something she had always been rather curious about. As their Professor wrote the questions on the board, Silver took out her quill and began scribbling all she could remember about 'Phones'.
Phones by Silver Stillwater, Hufflepuff Student
1) What is a phone used for? A phone, or 'tellyphone', is used to communicate vocally with other Muggles.
2) What is the difference between a cordless phone and a regular phone? A cordless phone is a phone without a cord. This means that Muggles can take their phone anywhere, without having to be attached to the 'base' of the phone.
3) How does a telephone work? A telephone runs using 'electricity', which can transmit a Muggle's voice almost instantly to another phone that is in service. Every phone has a number allocated to it, and to use a phone you have to dial the number of another Muggle's phone and it will connect you through. Rather ingenious, really!
Silver paused for a moment, her quill hesitating over the paper. She had done as well as she could. Should she do the last, optional question? Glancing at the clock, she nodded to herself. She still had ten minutes left.
My name is Silver Stillwater, and this will be my first full year at Magic Horizons. I am excited to learn Muggle Studies, as my family is made up of witches and wizards, and I would like to learn about the world I have never been in. Their world sometimes seems more magical and mysterious than ours! I like to play Quidditch, but that's about the only thing I seem to be good at... mainly I just like hanging out with my new friends in the Hufflepuff Common Room. The only thing I really don't like is arrogance.
Checking over her answers quickly, Silver smiled to herself and then walked up to the Professor's desk, handing in the paper.

Mordecai, having grown up in a magical family, was very unfamiliar with this topic. He heard his parents talking about a "phone" one day at the dinner table and was trying to remember the conversation. Mordecai found muggle studies quite interesting and after Mordecai came back from his daydream, he immediately began to write down his answers.
1) What is a phone used for? A phone is used for muggles to talk to one another when they are too far to hear each other normally. They talk into the the speaker and the person that is talking into th other phone can hear them and reply.
2) What is the difference between a cordless phone and a regular phone? A cordless phone does not have a cord atatching it to anything. Muggles can talk into these "cellular phones" as long as they can get a "signal" which connects them to the person they want to talk to. The regular phone has a cord attaching it to the person they would like to talk to.
3) How does a telephone work? To initiate the call, you have to press numbers on the phone. Every muggle family has their own "phone number". When you press the buttons of a certain muggles phone, the phone will make an annoying ringing noise, indicating that someone is calling and wants to talk to them. The sound gets from one phone to the other by traveling through the wires.
4) (Optional) Give a one paragraph essay about yourself including your likes and dislikes. I am a very atheltic yound ravenclaw. I love participating in quidditch and even when i am not i am cheering on my team. My favorite subject is flying. I would like to consider myself intelligent and i am fairly easy to get along with. Keegan walked in adamantly looking for any muggle inventions that may have been lying around. Keegan had always been fascinated by the muggle world due to growing up under magical parents. He whipped out a piece or parchment and rapidly started to write.
1) What is a phone used for? The phone is used by muggles. It is some sort of communication device that allows muggle to hear each other’s voice and talk.
2) What is the difference between a cordless phone and a regular phone? A cordless phone is one that does not need to be attached to an outlet in order to work properly where as a regular phone needs to be attached in order to work.
3) How does a telephone work? The telephone works by pressing a specific digit code on the phone. Then the other phone rings and the muggle must raise the phone in order to talk to the other muggle.
4) (Optional) Give a one paragraph essay about yourself including your likes and dislikes. My name is Keegan Infidel. I have grown up in the magical world all my life. I love to play quiddich and duel for fun. I hate is when I lose though. I am very studious and like to learn about things I am not familiar with. I like to make friends and talk. Clover began & started writing really quickly.
Clover Ravenclaw Muggle Studies - Home phones
1) What is a phone used for? To keep in contact with other people. Not used in the same area, also quicker then just writing to someone.
Put it carely on the teachers desk. 2) What is the difference between a cordless phone and a regular phone? Well a normal phone has a cord meaning you cannot walk around freely as for a cordless phone.
3) How does a telephone work? Well all the buttons have numbers on them. Every muggle house has a code.
Like lets say Newbury's code is going to be different from Hungerford's code. Because they are different areas. That's how they track people if they are being bad. Once you dailed there number in, if they don't answer it. Then you cannot talked to them, unless you leave a message.
4) (Optional) Give a one paragraph essay about yourself including your likes and dislikes.
Well I'm Clover & 16 years old, in Ravenclaw. Also I love writing & reading. I hate people who think they are a gift to woman or men. I get on with people, if they treat with as they wanted to be treated. I have two dogs & one rabbit. Also one sister & brother

Abrena had seated herself at the back of the class, listening in silence to the teacher's short lecture. She shook her head very, very slightly at the thought of a classroom full of wizards and witches studying Muggle devices which they would probably never have need to use - it seemed ridiculous to her. Still, she was stuck with the class so she might as well make the best of it. She flipped open her textbook, pulling a quill and parchment out of the bag resting near her feet, and set straight to work. She hated wasting time. She worked with head bent, quill gliding easily across the smooth surface of parchment, and within moments had forgotten the existance of everyone else in the room. Not a difficult task, really, considering that she knew none of them anyway.
1. Telephones are an electrical device used by Muggles to communicate with each other when in different vicinities.
2. A cordless phone is one that, unlike regular telephones, operates on a Muggle invention called a battery, which uses a mix of chemicals to power the phone. A 'regular' phone is plugged into an outlet, which generates electricity to power the phone, and a regular phone is restrained by electrical cords, while a cordless phone is not. Hence, cordless.
3. Muggle telephones are connected in a network of wires that are strung up between long poles in the Muggle world, and powered by electricity. Each phone is designated a certain number, and when wanting to reach another phone, the Muggle will pick up their phone and dial the number of the phone they want to reach, using small buttons on the receiver.
The phone that the number belongs to will ring so that the other Muggle knows to pick it up. When the second Muggle does, he or she is able to speak to the first Muggle through the receiver. The sound waves are submitted via the electrical wires from one Muggle to the other.
She breezed through the first three questions; with the textbook flipped open to the correct page in one corner of her desk, they weren't exactly difficult. She paused upon rereading the fourth question, though, and lifted her quill from the page to tap its feathered end against her chin. The word optional had been scrawled in brackets before the question itself, and she was always rather reticent about sharing personal information about herself. Even if it was as superficial as this was allowed to be, and even with the slight shield of anonymity that was offered her by the fact that the telling was ink and parchment, not words spoken aloud.
She hesitated a moment longer, then shrugged and lifted her pen once again. There was still plenty of time left in the class, and she might as well do something to keep herself occupied. And it wasn't as if the question was asking her to share the deepest and innermost secrets of her heart, after all.
4. My name is Abrena Nott; I'm a pureblood Slytherin of 14 years, just recently transferred to this school from Durmstrang. My interests include reading, writing and art, as well as anything else that encompasses creative expression.
That done, she inspected her paper critically for a moment, particularly the last question. It was short, but it would have to do. With so many other similar assignments pouring in, it was unlikely that the professor would notice the lack; especially on an optional question. She shrugged, and though she had already named herself and her House in answer to the fourth question, she signed her name again at the bottom.
Abrena Nott Slytherin House
The blonde girl stood, moved quietly up to the Professor's desk and slipped the paper on it, then just as unobstrusively returned to her seat. Blue eyes traveled the room, watching those who were done and those who were still scrambling to finish up.
