Streaks of pink and molten gold blazed across a blushing sky, shading the rest of the world into purplish tints and shadow. One half of the stadium was veiled in transparent darkness while the other was illuminated with the light of a setting sun. The grass was already slightly dewey and sparkled in the indigo eyes of a certain Prefect who stood with her broom propped against a shoulder, surveying the scene with a practiced eye.
'This is perfect,' Jade thought with a small smile on her lips while she waited for the rest of her housemates to show up. The elements would help those trying out to really show what they were worth. The snitch could be lost in the gold sky, the dark beaters in the shadow, and the conditions would only push the others further and try their very best.
They already had try-outs earlier that year, but with the way the year had played out, Jade knew that they needed to be sure who exactly would play for them this year. Perching herself cross-legged on the trunk emblazoned with the Ravenclaw crest, Jade Cross waited for the team with a patient smile and a stomach growling loudly.

Dante stood staring out of the window in the boy's dormitories. He was trying to figure out what he was forgetting when stared out into the sky. Things in his mind began to click, but in the end he thought of nothing. Only as he saw a figure bolt through the sky did he remember what he had forgotten. It was the day of the final Quidditch Tryouts!
He went down on his knees and started clawing around frantically for his broom. It was near five minutes of searching that he remembered that his broom was in his trunk. His hands shot like lighting through the thick wooden chest, he was about to pull the broom out when he realized that he needed to open the chest first. One hand was pulled back out and popped open the lock then the other hand came out with the broom.
Dante stood up and was about to walk down the staircase through the commons when he realized something very important. He didn't have any quidditch robes on. He dropped his broom and started to dig through the chest at his feet. He grabbed a set of robes that he had bought in Hogsmead in the previous months. They were of a thin but sturdy material. The black and crimson robes danced as they unfolded. The silver insignia of the muggle company Psychopathic Records caught the early light perfectly. Dante pulled out his wand and cast a quick charm on his broom creating a magic tether that strapped itself around his ankle. He walked over to the window that he was previously looking out of, stepped up onto the windowsill and jumped off and out.
As the student plummeted to the ground he hopped onto his broom and shot off to the pitch. The wind blasted into his eyes but he simply shifted form slightly so that he was no longer solid. This was one of the few things that he picked up when he lost his soul. Dante darted to the pitch as fast as he could. He knew that the positions could fill up very quickly, but he still hoped that he would arrive in time to still be allowed to try out.
As he neared the pitch he dove off of his broom and sprinted the rest on foot. He skidded to a hault to find that there was only Jade. His eyes immediately dropped to the chest. A large smile came upon his face. "Good day Miss Cross. Are there any beater positions left?" Quidditch was one of the very few things that got this type of reaction out of Dante.

Far and away, there was the sound of a door closing. It wasn't long before Ceiced was there just a few paces behind Dante, standing with his hands held behind his back. He had on blue and silver robes, the Ravenclaw symbol blazoned on the front. Yes, he'd brought a broom, though it certainly wasn't one of the state-of-the-art brooms that he knew most of the others would be bringing. It's handle was worn, and some of the straw was falling out, but he loved it nonetheless.
He looked up into the sky and smiled, it was quite the day to see if he had any skill at Quidditch, and still quite the day to see if he would fail miserably. A sigh escaped his lips, before he stepped forward and said, "Ah... hello. I think there's still a Chaser position open, yes?"

While she waited for people to arrive, Jade turned her gaze up to the reddish gold sky and inhaled deeply, smelling the fresh scent of new Spring grass and pine wafting from the Forbidden Forest. She thought back to the old days when she first was placed on the team. The lone beater. An over zealous beater at that. Quite often the opposing team had two beaters, batting their balls every which way and that way. One would usually concentrate on her, while the other went after her teammates. Deep enough in her memories, she could envision the players zooming above her, zipping inbetween other players, brushing the ground, hearing the crack of a beater bat, listening to the roar of the crowd... They were all memories that easily brought a smile to her lips.
Her reflection was cut short however, when Dante, the soulless one, skidded to a stop in front of her atop the chest. Jade grinned brightly, then transformed her face into a mockery of reproach. "First off, drop the 'Miss,' and second, why yes, there are." Now that she was a chaser, both beater positions were open.
Jade's eyes moved past Dante to alight upon Ceiced who had recently come back. She smiled ruefully and shook her head, "I'm sorry, but both starting Chaser positions are taken. However, we still need reserves!" She added cheerfully. "We need a complete reserve team, two starting beaters, and a seeker for the upcoming game against Hufflepuff."
Leaping up weightlessly, the Prefect opened the trunk and unhooked a quaffle. "While we wait, let's have a little fun." She grinned and threw the ball into the air.

Dante turned around briefly as Ceiced approached. "G'day and good luck." He looked back to Jade. "Right Miss...," He stopped himself in midsentance and realized something. "... what should I call you? Jade, coach, captain, hey you over there...? Any prefrence?"
He watched as Jade hopped off of the chest. His mind was racing with anticipation and planning for things that were yet to come. Slowly he cracked each nuckle individually and then proceeded to his neck, shoulders, and back. For a few seconds an echo of Dante's popping joints rattled through the pitch. He gave Jade a large smile then took a knee. As he watched her pull out the quaffle he leaned back a little more. "Looks like I'm goin second." He said quietly to himself. Dante eyed one of the beater's clubs. It was going to be a very good day.

Ceiced seemed to deflate somewhat at the news... so if he wanted to be a Chaser he would have to be on the Reserves... Beater was out of the question, he simply lacked the stamina and muscle needed for the position. Seeker might work, or maybe Keeper...
His mind all a muddle, he just shook his head adjusted his glasses. 'No doubt Miss Cross will know what position I should play.' he thought reassuringly. His eyes followed the Quaffle as she pulled it out, grinned at him, and tossed it high into the air. For a second all of his focus seemed to snap to that red ball, now just a speck way up high. Almost before he knew it, he'd kicked the broom off the ground and he was airborne, headed almost vertically upward to catch the Quaffle.
His will and determination actually worked against him in that moment as he streaked past the red ball on it's way down. "Crap!" he exclaimed, his hands still outstretched whilst his legs clung tenaciously to the broom. He looked up and saw it falling, a vertigo inducing sight to be sure. Quidditch is a series of split-second decisions and risks, he knew, so he decided to take one. Actually falling off backwards from the broom to end it's forward momentum, he grabbed the very tip and careened back towards the ground with it in tow. His other hand reached out and snatched the Quaffle, pulling it in tight and bringing the broom back down in midair to rest on it again. There was a sickening moment as he slowed considerably, then landed back on the ground.
He blinked once or twice and looked at the Quaffle in his hand, somewhat shocked that he actually had it there. His hair was all over from the wind, and his glasses rested haphazardly on his nose as he held out the red ball, speechless.

Cella made her way down to the quidditch pitch, she'd always wanted to be a beater. With a small sigh she saw that some people had already turned up for try outs. Why bother, I can't possibly make it she thought to herself.
She was on the verge of turning on her heel when she could have sworn she heard her father's taunting voice laughing at her for being so afraid. With a determined smile she walked up to Jade. "Am I too late to sign up for the trials?" she asked, her tone of voice nervous.
She had just recently come out of the hospital, and though she still wore a bandage around her neck, she felt fit for playing. Swinging her firebolt[/] onto her other shoulder, she looked around at the other students.

Jade laughed lightly as Dante caught himself in mid-sentence, "It doesn't matter Dante, call me whatever you want... within reason of course, just not 'Miss'!" She grinned as she tossed a bludger at his chest.
Turning her attention back towards Ceiced, she watched with a small smile, as blank and unreadable as she. She was impressed with his potential. He seemed to be the type that had the talent but needed a little more grooming to hone in on it and be able to best take advantage of it. My schedule is fickle as it is. My auror duties tend to take me away quite a bit... we could really use Ceiced in case I can't make it. Jade thought as he pulled an amazing save, which, by the look of it, amazed him just as well. We'll see what else my lovelies can do. "Well done, Ceiced, well done! Just keep tossing that thing around. You'll find that it's not quite like a regular quaffle..." She trailed off with a mysterious grin. That particular red ball had been bewitched to act similar to a bludger, but instead of trying to hit you, it tended to veer from your grasp just your fingers brushed it. It also liked to play with ghost players, not literally speaking, but it would shoot back and forth, as if it were being passed back and forth between Chasers.
Grabbing a beater bat, she summoned the bludger she had thrown at Dante and as it bulleted towards her she twirled her bat above her shoulder like a baseball player before sending it far off into the sky with a loud, solid THWOCK! Her grin shone in the shade of her hand as she covered her eyes, watching the black ball fly towards the setting sun.
Turning at the sound of a nervous voice, Jade's face lit up warmly and she shook her head, "Not late at all. Looks like you're all set. What position are you going for?" Her indigo eyes took in the bandages on the girl's neck and concern briefly darkened them. She trusted the girl to make the call, however, if she felt well enough to exert herself this early.

((Nuuuu... my post... It somehow logged me out sometime before I tried to post it, so it's gone. Looks like i'll have to rewrite...)) Ceiced tossed the Quaffle into the air a few feet and caught it while he listened to what Jade Cross had to say. He was getting compliments, at least, which caused him to grin somewhat sheepishly. There was a strange moment in which he tossed the Quaffle up and it didn't seem to come back down. "Wha-" he muttered, looking around for it, then up. The red ball was bouncing around in the air above him, almost taunting him. His eyes on it the entire time he scrabbled onto his broom and kicked off. The Quaffle seemed determined to evade him, as it sped off and away from him with a mind of it's own. He rocketed off after it, 'chasing' it in the most literal sense. It was a tricky little thing, stopping short right when he sped up, doing loop-de-loops over and under him, bobbing just slightly out of the way as he reached out to grab it. So they zipped about in the air like birds on the wing, Ceiced always two steps behind the mischevious little Quaffle. Then, when the Quaffle decided to stop and let him fly overhead, he pulled up hard and swung his hand down to snatch it out of the air. "Yes!!!" he exclaimed, spinning once in the air in hapiness. "Then again, catching it's only half the battle..." he mused, looking to the goal posts, then back to Jade Cross. The sun was rapidly setting behind him, the day reaching that mesmerizing state of twilight. He decided to go for it. His imagination filled the stands with a roaring crowd, brought the competitors into being in his mind. This was it, his chance to score. In a flash he was away, dodging this way and that, ducking bludgers as the zoomed past him. He pulled a dizzying barrel roll that almost caused him to fall from his broom, but at the last second he pulled himself together and hurled the Quaffle, it sailed directly through the largest hoop. 'Ceiced scores!' the announcer was saying, the crowd going crazy in the stands... He looked over his shoulder to see if Jade Cross had been watching, then flew grinning the whole way back to her to dismount again. Never having played before, he wasn't sure whether his performance had been satisfactory or not. With a slight amount of shyness he awaited her verdict.
