Chantelle Taylor was sat at the Quidditch Pitch one Sunday afternoon, looking up into the autumn sky towards the goal hoops that were placed on the Quidditch pitch. There were six altogether, and when she had first arrived at MH, the small girl's dream was to throw a quaffle through one of those hoops, any of them would do, really, but now it wasn't possible.
Something in her wrist twinged, causing a light pain as she recalled the memory of her first time in the Magic Horizons sky. She had ended up diving towards the ground and had broken her wrist. True, Kelly had fixed it, but it didn't fix her fear of flying. That would remain with her forever. That was the reason her Firebolt was still locked up in her trunk back in the girls' dormitory, completely unused.
Sighing a little, Channy wondered if it would ever get used, before lying backwards and trying to make shapes out of the clouds.

"You know... I'd say that one there looks like a House Elf... or maybe even a wombat..." A voice said next to the girl. Jade Cross, was lying on the grass not far away with her arms behind her head, serenely looking up at the darkening sky. Chantelle may have wondered when and how the Prefect had gotten there, but Jade only continued to smile that smile of hers and crossed her ankles.

Chantelle jumped as a voice came from beside her. No one else had been here before… had they? “Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t think anyone was…” the word here trailed off as the small brunette girl noticed who had spoken. “Jade? How did you…?” once again, Channy trailed off. Jade was one who liked to keep her secrets. It could have been apparation, but you couldn’t apparate in MH. Blinking a little out of confusion for a few seconds, the brunette flopped back onto the ground with a barely audible ‘thud’.
Looking at the cloud Jade had pointed out, it did look a lot like a house elf. Too much so, she decided after a few moments of watching it. As a new set of fluffy white shapes came into her line of sight, Channy flinched a little. One of them looked exactly like a broomstick. Turning over onto her stomach, the small girl decided to watch the sun setting behind the castle instead. Anything to keep her mind off the broomstick.

She noticed Channy's flinch after she had landed and raised a questioning brow as her eye rolled to the side to look at her. Looking back up, she scrunched her brow as if searching for the problem in the sky. Then looking back she asked, "Are you Ok?"
Jade knew that Channy had gone through a lot in the past few months, especially the last week or so, and the girl had never really said anything about it. Sure, the Auror noticed that Chantelle had visibly relaxed as the large burden placed over her was resolved, but with all things that affect us in life, there was something lingering. However, her empathy wasn't twitching that way, it was definitely something else.

"Mmm hmm," Chantelle replied, trying to block out all sorts of emotions, that way, maybe Jade wouldn't be able to figure it out, maybe that way her friend wouldn't find out what had happened at the Quidditch pitch at the first Ravenclaw team practise she had watched. "Fine, why do you ask?" Channy replied nervously, not looking at Jade, but instead keeping her gaze firmly fixed on the blade of grass below her.
Okay, she wanted to give in and tell Jade about it. After all, she had been there for her all the time in the past few months and had tried to help her.
Shaking her head, the tiny girl gave a sigh. "Okay, no. You'll only find out in the end," Chantelle gave in, with no pressure at all this time. "But it's stupid..."

Jade smiled and made a motion as if to say that she wouldn't interrupt and was all ears. Through the months she had learned to be patient with the girl, understanding that she couldn't just make people trust her in such a short period of time. Jade was greedy for trust and was arrogant enough to think that everyone could and would trust her. She inwardly laughed at herself and settled her mind to listen to Channy, thinking though, that she had already begun to know her well enough, "You'll only find out in the end..." Heheheh.
"Nothing's stupid, Channy... well, most aren't." She rolled her head in her cupped hands to look at Channy with a sly grin and wink, hoping she'd know what or rather who she was thinking about.

Channy sighed, not even looking towards Jade but still keeping her gaze firmly focused on the blade of grass she was fiddling with. “Well, this one is. Trust me,” she whispered, but turned her head on its side to face her friend and decided to explain. As she had said before, Jade would only find out in the end, anyway. So it would be all the better just to come right out with it.
“I’m scared of flying,” the tiny brunette admitted. “Not like, in a plane, but on a broom. Kelly let me have a go once… and I fell off…” Admitting that to Jade was even harder than facing The Man, Channy felt.

By all physical appearances, it didn't seem as if her words had registered for Jade remained completely serene, not at all shocked or appalled.
"Well then, it's not really the flying that you should be afraid, but more the ground." Jade smiled at Chantelle with glittering eyes. Her jovial attitude wasn't dismissive, but that she really didn't think it was that bad. Truly, many people were afraid of flying and in Jade's opinion, that wasn't anything so horrible. In fact, she whole heartedly encouraged them to try and try again, that is if they were willing.
"Do you want to fly, Channy? I mean, really, trully want to?"

Chantelle nodded after a few seconds pause. She did want to fly, more than anything. She remembered the last Summer when Damon had taught her to fly on his old broom, and she'd loved it. It had only been since she had fallen off that the small girl had experienced second thoughts.
"But what if it happens again?" she asked cautiously, turning to face Jade, hope in her eyes.

Jade sat up and looked at Chantelle with her eyes suddenly alit. "Well then it happens again." As was a habit, she raised her brows and gave an expression that quite usually and obviously mean that there was nothing to dissuade her.
"Falling off is the worst thing that can happen while you're on a broom, and you're here now, aren't you? You've survived and experienced something that others are deathly afraid of." Her countenance suddenly took on a dreamy, longing sort of face. "Do you remember what it felt like? To be high above everyone else with nothing but the wind beneath your feet; streaming through your hair?" She faced her again with softened eyes, "Isn't it worth it?"

Channy nodded. Now that it was being put across to her this way, maybe there actually was a point in her trying again. Maybe it was worth trying again just to be in the air, be where she longed to be.
But there was still that unsettling fear... one which Chantelle was able to squish as she sat up, suddenly feeling a rush of energy. It was almost as though her broomstick up in the dormitory was calling out to her, longing to be ridden.
And it was true, after all. Falling off was the worst thing that could happen, and injuries could be fixed, right?
