Regardless of how we felt before, Spiral had no idea that Magical Horizons would be like... this! He chuckled to himself as craned his neck to look at the large stone tower in front of him where he could see twigs, and straw poking from the windows where owls had set their nests. Apparently, instead of using humans or other ways of magic, they used owls to deliver their mail! Owls! Spiral laughed to himself at the thought as he hooked his thumbs into his belt loops of his jeans and whistled as the sheer number of roosting owls lining the walls of the tower. The smile slowly melted off his face though as he felt his wonder deflating and bringing him back down to earth.
He still had so many questions like how this could all be and no one from the regular world would know about it! And his family back home... what were they thinking? Spiral Jones... a wizard? His thoughts drifted back to the ranch he lived on in Missouri and the often boughts of spontaneous magic that at that time was inexplicable. Like how the horse shoes always rang home when he played the game with his family? Or the horses and other animals always come in on time when he called them?
Spiral expelled a short breath and shook his head. What was he doing here?

The soft sound of dragging feet were heard in the owlery. Dust kicked up , and Troy went right through it. Coughing slightly, he opened his tired eyelids to see if anything interesting was in this room. Having already been slapped for entering the girl's bathroom by accident, he half expected to be slapped again.
But no, there was only another guy in here. "Hello, I am Troy...." He leaned against the stone wall and looked at the stranger.

With his eyebrows raised, he twirled around and looked upon the newcomer against the wall. "Hey there, they call me Spiral." He offered his hand to the man and greeted him with, "nice to meet you." It had a rather grown up air to it, but Spiral was a gentleman from the south of the United States, and he had seen his father greet everyone in such a manner that it was merely second nature to the boy.
"You look a bit tired there, you alright?"

Zerrissen hesitated....then slapped his hand so hard across his own face that he almost fell over. " I am great! I am good!" he yelled most joyously. "Just a bit tired, that is all."
He strode over the the ledge, and took in the great view.
"Reminds me of home, snow topped mountains..!" Troy let out a sigh, and looked back to Spiral. "So , Spiral.." He spun his fingers in a spiraling motion. "What would interest you in this abismal room?"

The boy wasn't just quite sure what to make of the other guy who just slapped himself hard across the face. The action seemed to work well enough, considering that his mood improved drastically. Curious, he followed Troy towards the ledge and looked out towards the majestic mountains in the not too far distance.
"Where're you from? My home has nothing of the sort. Nothing but flat farmland and corn." He grinned and watched his spiraling fingers with amusement. "Well, I was just wandering around the grounds and came across this place. I was told that this is the mail system!" He laughed again. "I was so intrigued that I had to come check it out."

Troy looked at Spiral, and spoke clearly. " I am not sure where it is I come from.." He attempted a faint smile. "I was raised among monks on the peaks of mountains....we traveled for 10 years searching for my parents, who apparently abandoned me in a spring to die." He looked at the ground. "The monks recieved my letter for schooling , and when they found out it was for magic...they threw me off the side of the mountain!" He tried to laugh, but it came out too low and sorrowfull, more of a sob.

Spiral Jones wasn't one to mask his emotions. One could see them right beneath the surface of his face, as clear as a stream, and he was sure that the surprise was written all over it.
"They literally... threw you off a mountain?!" He exclaimed breathlessly. "I...." He whistled. "Why, I don't know what to say!" He ran a hand through his dark hair and gazed up at the ceiling, as if he couldn't image morally sound monks throwing a kid off a mountain. "I'm sorry to hear that, Troy. I'm sure that it was really hard for you... How did you manage to get here?" Spiral wished that was something other way to comfort him, but an 11 year old boy like him, what could there be? So, he tried to quickly get off that image and concentrate on this school.

"Yes, but before I hit the rocky groud below, I felt a tug and someone had caught me. I looked up and saw a pale faced fellow. The next thing I knew I was here." Troy looked back to the mountains. "They threw me off, because they said magic was great evil, and that if I could conjure it I must be rid of." Troy spun back to face Spiral. "Don't worry about it, I am fine as wine now. I never wanted to be a monk anyway!'

"That's incredible." Spiral breathed. Compared to what he himself had gone through back home, that must've been absolutely horrific! "To be thrown off a mountain...man oh man." He shoved his hands into his pockets and rocked onto the balls of his feet.
"My grannie felt the same way about magic, it being evil and all, but I highly doubt that she could throw me off a mountain like that! She could lock me in the grain silo though... but nah. My Pa thought it was a good idea though. He'd never heard of anything like it and he sure as heck needed me on the ranch, but... he had a feeling, you know? He told me one night on the porch as we were listening to the coyotes in distance that he had feeling that this place was good, and that it'd be a good idea for me to come here..." He trailed off as he thought back to that warm night, watching over their moonlit ranch with a new air between them. As if it were no longer a talk between a father and son, but between two men.
"Fine as wine," He repeated, "Why, you sound like my granddad." He grinned suddenly, slightly bemused as to why he had felt the urge to tell him that.

" I would like to we as wise as the old man, as I am sure he was wise enough. At first I thought magic would be my curse, haha, but now I realise it to be a gift." Troy began to walk back to the door, but stopped. "Want to explore the rest of this dandy place?"

His curiousity peaked at that. What made him realize that it wasn't a curse? Could it be used to help people? But yet... the only people that he wanted to help right now, were in the muggle world, where they were forbidden to do magic.
Shrugging his lanky shoulders, Spiral nodded his head and said "Sure." Looking back out the window, he let his eyes roam across the scenery. "Where to? There's still a lot of this place I haven't been."

"That lake down there looks interesting, I saw a creature broke the surface a few minutes ago." Troy drew his wand, it was 11 inches, and made of oak. "I think I might try to use some of the spells I've discovered, and perhaps you could do that same." There is bound to be something, or someone we could test them on?"

Haycee had finally decided to write a letter...not to her family, but to her friend, who still lived in her hometown ever so far away from here. She cracked open the door to the Owlery, and found it to be empty with the exception of two boys. "Oh, hello…" Haycee said politely, "I hope I'm not bothering you...sorry if I am...I'll be quick." Haycee said awkwardly. She wondered why she was apologizing...the Owlery was a public place after all, but it was in her nature to be very respectful of others...possibly too respectful? Haycee tied her message to an Owl and it immediately took off. Haycee then headed for the door again, but then hesitated. "Um...my name is Haycee" she said, almost out of the blue. She smiled at them and wondered if she should say anything more, or just leave as she was originally planning to do anyway.

Seeing Troy take out his wand some how compelled Spiral to imitate him and brandish his own. He had never seen another wizard actually use theirs, and quite frankly, he had no idea to use his own. He hadn't been to a single class yet, and he still had a muggle frame of mind that considered the wand in his hand nothing but a mere tool of distraction that magicians in the muggle world used to take the crowd's attention away from what they were really doing. Spiral looked at the rod in his hands with curious wide eyes. It was a 13 inch of ash wood with a phoenix feather as a core. The wand maker had even remarked about its length, but merely attributed it to Spiral's own lanky heighth.
He grew excited at the mention of the lake. "I heard that there's an actual giant squid living down there! Maybe we could see it or something!" Just then a girl, he noticed a girl had come in with a letter in her hand. She was very polite, excusing herself, and performing exactly what Spiral had been so eager to know was true.
"Ah! So they are mailmen! Er... fowl... hmm... kinda like pidgeons way back when." He broke off his random musings, and grinned at her. "Nice to meetcha, my name's Spiral, Spiral Jones."

Haycee laughed a bit and said "You didn't know the Owls send and deliver mail? I mean, I don't mean to be rude or anything, but I just thought that was something that everybody knew..." Haycee thought for a moment and then came to the conclusion he must be new here. "Are you new here?" she asked. She wished she hadn't laughed at him, but at the time it seemed like a joke, ridiculous that he didn't know that information.
