Makira Blackthorne burst throught the Owlery doors hurriedly. She ran all the way from her dorm and was now out of breath. She walked in, clutching her chest, and scanned the tops of the Owlery for Powder.
Makira's brunette hair was in a plait, swinging bak and forth slightly. She was in her pajamas, but her school cloak was covering them. She wiped a stray hair from her amber-bespeckled eyes. She squinted as she walked past a window - the morning sun was shining brightly and Makira just woke up.
Powder gracefully landed on Makira's right shoulder. Makira held out her hand and Powder flew down to it. She untied the letter from Powder's leg and Powder flew back to her perch tiredly.
She read the letter - she saw HIS name.
"Oh no... no, no, no..!"
Dear Makira,
We are sending you this note to let you know that your brother, Cedric, is coming to visit.
We didn't want him to alarm you, so we sent this owl.
Hope he won't bother you and your friends too much, dear!
Much love, Mum and Dad
"Oh... noooo..." She repeated.
One word rang throughout the Owlery -
"Cedric..!"

"Cedric what now?"
A clear voice rang out from the stone steps to the owlery, though it was hastily covered by an expansive yawn. It was, after all, far too early to be completely compis mentis, well, it was for Sylph anyway. Unlike Makira she was fully dressed in muggle gear - loose hanging dark green slobby trousers and a cool spaghetti strap top, also in green, though a different shade - prepared for what looked like a hot day ahead. Her violet hair hung loose around her shoulders as normal, and though it looked like it could do with a good brush it still looked good. Her eyes were bright despite the early hour, and right now they were focused on the brown haired girl before her.
"What's up?" she said quizzically, calm despite the fact that her friend seemed to be screaming about something, or rather, someone. "Bad news?" She said this last part in a way that sounded incredibly sarcastic, but that was just the way Sylph spoke. Rarely phased, she took everything in her stride. Well, almost anything. Loosing was one thing she did not.
"Cedric's your bro, right?" she asked, her voice a little softer now as she approached the younger girl. "What's he done this time?"

Makira turned around and came face-to-face with..
“Sylph!”
She smiled, but remembered the letter in her hand and frowned, then snorted.
“My dear big brother… Cedric.. is due to show up here soon.” She said, mock-sweetly, a dangerous glint in her eyes.
She shook her head, her plait of brunette hair swinging to-and-fro behind her head.
“I… Well, I don’t like him.” she stated evenly, calmly. Makira was trying not to sound too mean, but – Cedric, to tell to truth, was a pompous, snobby, snuck up git who thinks he’s perfect. And, to top it all off, he hates and looks in disgust upon the Wizarding World.
“Oi…. Ric, why’d you hafta RUIN everything..?” she asked herself with a heavy sigh.

"He's your brother; that's why," Sylph replied, a single dark brow raised inquisitively. "I've got one of my own, course, he's younger than I am, so I could always squash him if he bugged me too much." She waved her hand dismissively, trying to get back on the point.
"I thought you said he was a muggle, that he hates the wizarding world." Sylph's voice grew somewhat disgusted at this point; she found some people's mistrust of things that they didn't understand deeply annoying, even more so when it approached the level of hatred that Makira described Cadric as having.
"So why in the names of all the gods is he coming here? I didn't think muggles could even see this place as we do - I thought it had charms and stuff on it so muggles just saw an old ruin or somethin'..." She frowned slightly, looking up to the rafters as if searching for something.
"So why is he coming?" she said, lowering her eyes to meet Makira's once more, feeling suddenly suspicious of this Cedric. "What does he want?"

A bright red object came whizzing in the window, just missing Makira's head. It crashed into the rack of parchment, sending owls flying in disgust. On closer examination, it seemed like a ball shaped object...a Quaffle. A loud shout could be heard outside, and a familiar boy with hair about as red as the ball hovered beside the window. "Sorry about that. Can I have my ball back? Oh hey, it's you two!" Aylen grinned. "Long time no see, eh?"

Sylph's green eyes turned back from her searching to focus on a bright red ball - a quaffle - and an almost equally bright red shock of hair. It was a familiar sight, but Sylph had not seen him in a while.
"Aylen!" she called, seemingly delighted to see her friend once more. "Where ya been, man? There was a rumor you cursed your own drink to get out of school!" She paused, considering this. "Wish I'd have thought of that," she added, a little more subdued.
Suddenly, without warning, Sylph's tall slender frame shot forward and seized the quaffle as it hovered by the window, brushing a couple of owls aside in the same fluid motion and tossed the ball up in the air and caught it a few times as she continued to grin at her red-headed friend.
"You've missed a lot," she told him. "And I mean a lot." She sighed, wondering if he'd been to talk to anyone else about the impending battle, or if she had to explain it to him. "For one thing, I made the quidditch team. For another..." she trailed off, unsure as how to begin.

"Hey, that was Aidana's fault," he said indignantly. "She tricked me into hexing my butterbeer. That was no picnic, I can tell you." He sat sideways on his broom as he listened to the violet headed girl. "Quidditch, huh? I knew you'd make it," he began, but after seeing the look on the girl's face, he quieted. "Danawi's still here, isn't he?" he asked quietly.

With a mad giggle and a goofy step, a lopsided figure skipped into the room. "Im Smeagle", he managed to say through his lollipop.
