Makira Blackthorne had gotten told that she got a message from Powder, so she went up to the Owlery to check it out. Earlier, she'd sent her parents, particularly her Dad, a letter asking why she had behaved strangely under the full moon, and just why she had been becoming, overall, more... wolf-like over this past month.
Once she reached the Owlery and had untied the piece of parchment eagerly from Powder's leg, she read it, taking in ever word.
My Dear Makira,
I guess it's time to tell you.
Your Mum is part Lycan; therefore, you are, too.
You are a Half-Lycan, my dearest Makira.
Under the full moon, or if you get too over-emotional, you turn into a Were-wolf type creature. We haven't told in fear of you not wanting to accept what you are. That is where you get your love for the canine species, dear, not just from me.
When you were smaller, you would sometimes communicate with the wolves I brought in and the dogs. And a few times, when you got too mad at Cedric, you turned and would slash him. And at night, you would howl, too.
We got you back to 'normal' after a while, but then you started to get over-emotional before you left, and we had to soothe you so you wouldn't turn again.
I'm sorry this is all coming out so fast, but it's..... it's for the best, my dear.
We love you: don't change, okay, love?
Love, Mum and Dad
Makira stared at the letter in awe.
*'This answers so many questions...'*
she thought in her mind, in a surprisingly calm, smooth voice.
*'That's why.... oh no... I have to learn to control my emotions, or... O-or else.....'*
She pictured all her friends killed or fatally wounded, and blood dripping from her muzzle as she howled at the full moon on a cloudless night....
No.
No, she couldn't, she.... now what? Was she to stay at the school? Be some type of....
Of freak?
No. She couldn't. She would stay...
Possibly...
She didn't know. She wasn't sure.
Makira was shaking all over and now ashen-faced, the picture of her maiming her friends without a single thought of neither mercy nor rationality.... it was....
monstrous.
She was a
"Monster..."
((OOC: Sorry if it's crappy; I'm in a kind of writer's block. >_< And if you have any questions about Makira's Half-Lycan form or whatever, just IM me. ^^))

A certain hawk with blue-tinted feathers stared curiously at Makira. She seemed to be very distressed, though over what was beyond him. It seemed to be a piece of paper she had in her hands. How strange. He hopped to a roost closer to her, shooing out an owl that had been resting there. there was a slight scuffle, but the owl was too drowsy to battle for the spot.

Aidana Hawkins started out the window in her Transfiguration class. Things were dull. Too dull. But maybe it was better that way, sometimes surprises were bad. And she knew that she wouldn't want a certain surprise of darkness. Slowly, hatred was taking it's effect on Aidana, but she resisted as hard as she could. She wasn't going to turn into something like the former Ark, before he came back from Hell. Aidana was deep in thought when the bell rang, and jumped as somebody touched her shoulder. She looked up, and smiled a thanks at them before gathering up her books. Aidana looked out the window one last time and saw a not-so-peculiar sight. An owl had just flown into the Owlery.
Hey, isn't that Makira's owl? Aidana was pretty sure that it was. She had nothing else to do, so she set off twards the Owlery. As she approaced, she could hear a girl say one word. Itsounded like Makira, Aidnan knew, but the word was drastically out of place.
"Monster."
Aidana walked up the stairs to see Makira dreadfully shaking. She had a piece of parchment in her hand, and that could be the only explination. Aidana dropped her bag and went to her friend. She put her arms around Makira to steady her, and looked her in the eye.
" What's wrong Makira?" she asked softly. " You know nothing can happen to you in the castle..."

Makira was still shaking, repaeating that one word in her mind and a few times aloud...
Monster..
She felt arms hug her, then familiar emerald eyes look into hers.
"Aidana... A-A-Aid-dana, I.. I-I.."
Tears streamed down her still pale face as she ran a hand through her chocolate brown locks and looked her friend straight in the eye..
"I'm-m a monst-ster..."

Seizing his chance, Mercury hopped onto Aidana's head, flapping a little to regain his balance. He squawked a greeting and began to preen himself while listening intently to what was going on around him. While not much was happening in the Owlery itself, his sensitive hearing did pick up footsteps. He cocked his head towards the doorway, and sure enough, someone familiar to all three of them entered.
Aylen was scribbling on a scrap piece of parchment when his quill tore through the flimsy paper. "Aw, come on..." Aylen grumbled. He looked up to see if there was any extra scraps in the Owlery when he saw Makira crying, his sister comforting, and his hawk sitting on her head, in that order. "Um," he said in his usual awkward manner. "Did I miss something?"

Makira turned to Aylen and held up the piece of parchment, a look of terror mixed with horror and slight confusion in her amber bespackled eyes.
"I... I-I...
Ask Aidana.."
She couldn't bare to finish as the gruesome thoughts came flooding back into her mind.
Aidana: on the verge of death.
Aylen: tortured to death.
Sylph: maimed.
The rest of of her mates: fatally wounded.
Ark:...
Dead.
"No.........
NO!"
she cried, now clutching the letter tightly to her chest with one hand and the other running through her hair. She was shaking violently and hoped tonight wasn't a full moon......
Or else.....

Ashlle had to tell someone. This was too . . . amazing to be true, and yet it was. She thought of sending her friends notes about it but decided instead just to send them a note saying: I have something important to reveal.
It was a long way up to the owlrey but finally she made it only to find one of her older friends with a Hawk on her head and two other students trying to get a coherent word out of her, while she shook and shuttered.
"What in the blazes is going on here" she asked in her usual no-nonsense manner.

Aidana was shocked to see Makira so distraught. She said that she was a monster, but that didn't make sense. Why would Makira be a monster? She was the sweetest most gregarious girl Aidana had met. Makira was one of her first friends here at Magic Horizons. The last thing that came to mind when Makira was brought up was monster! Aidana turned to see a familiar face walk in. Too familiar, the face looked just like hers. He was looked at her head weirdly, and Aidana realized that Mercury was sitting on her head. Aidana was irritated. She didn't have time for this with Makira in tears. She swiped Mercury off her head with her left hand, while taking out her new wand with her right. She swiftly pointed the wand at the hawk.
" Impedimenta," she muttered and a jet of yellow light hit Mercury. He fell to the floor like a stone. Aidana looked him over quickly, and saw that no damage had been done. He would just be out of her hair for a while. She looked back at Makira with a comforting look on her face.
" Makira darling, you are not a monster," she said in a soothing voice. " Maybe you should explain exactly what the letter said."
Aidana gently took the letter from Makira's hands. Maybe if she wasn't holding it, she would start to think straight. Then another girl entered the owlery. She was very straightforward, but in the same boat as Aidana. Neither of them seemed to know what was going on.

Makira ran both her hands through her hair over and over after Aidana took the letter away.
"J... J-Just r-read it-t, and you'll s-s-s-see.." She sniffled as the tears streamed down her pale face.
She fell to her knees and was still shaking rather violently. She looked up at Aylen, then Aidana, then the girl who'd just walked in, and almost broke down.
"I don't wanna... kill.. n-no..... I don't want y-you all t-to die.."

[glow=purple,2,300]Dovie huffed slightly out of breath. She'd seen Aidana leave class and was going to ask her something, but she was too fast. And then Ashlle had walked past her in the same direction, and two friends in one place usually meant a good thing for Dovie, so she followed and had finally caught up. There, in the owelry, was Maki-chan, crying, Aidana, Ashlle, and Aylen all wondering what was going on. Dovie could feel the pain pulsing from Makira's heart and figured it would be alright to mindwalk purposely this once. What she found was heartbreaking, and she mind-talked to Makira in a soothing voice. My dear, you needn't worry, there are things to help in situations like these...I know you really do not want to speak about it as it is very difficult... would you like me to tell them for you...? By this time, Dovie had come over and placed a small, gentle, olive hand on Makira's left shoulder and began stroking her back. "It will be okay, there are ways we can help..." Dovie spoke aloud, her voice calm but her mind pained to see her friend hurting so much.[/glow]

Makira's eyes snapped open for a second when she heard a familiar voice in her mind and a hand on her shoulder, then she turned around slowly to see Dovie.
"Dovie, I.... I don't know what to do.... I don't wanna...... "
She whispered the last word, "Kill.."
Then wiped away some tears.

Ashlle shook herself. Die? Her? Not bloody likely! She kneeled down next to Makira and took her shoulders in her hands.
"No one is going to Die!" she told Makira. "I am training to be a fighter and if anyone is coming to get you I'll stop them. If anyone is trying to make you kill people I can help you. I've got connections."
She shook her friend gently, "Now calm down! Your going to pieces over a little letter."

Aidana looked at Makira in tears, and felt bad herself. What was in this letter that was so bad? Makira had told her to read it, and that was what she needed to do. Aidana looked at the letter in her hand and began reading. It said she was a half-lycan. She was destined to turn at the full moon, and if she didn't learn to control her powers she would kill. Aidana looked up at everyone, and handed the letter off to the other girl who had just gotten there. She turned to see Dovie enter the Owlery. But she looked like if she knew exactly what was going on. It made sense, Dovie could speak to people directly in their minds. Aidana turned back to Makira.
" Makira, you are not going to kill," she said softly. " You will get control of your powers, believe me. You know you are capable of that!"

Makira was shaken even more-so by the girl whom she didn't know.
She pointed to her letter that Aidana held.
"Go read it.. you'll se why I'm 'going to 'pieces'..." she said, hoping, praying it wasn't going to be a full moon tonight.
Makira then looked at Aidana.
"But.. I-I dunno... Cedric has some pretty deep scars because of me.... And.. I just don't know what I'm going to do.. I hope tonight isn't a full moon.. You'll alll have to lock me up somewhere..."
Tears slipped silently down her pale cheeks again.

[glow=purple,2,300]Dovie nodded to Aidana and glanced at Ashlle. She blinked her eyes rapidly for a moment, gathering everything together, and looked back at Makira. "You'll be fine, Maki-chan.." she spoke in her more innocent voice. "Tonight is not a full moon. In fact, the next one isn't for several weeks. I can help, if you want..." Dovie stroked Makira's hair before giving her a gentle hug. "Things will be alright, Maki-chan... Don't ever forget your friends are here, we can help you get through this..."[/glow]
