Dru entered the owlery, her hand holding a small letter. Her dress was long and flowy and made her almost look like a ghost.
Dear Mom and Dad,
I'm having a great time here at Magic Horizons. The classes are fun, and I've got some great friends! Can't wait to get home though, it seems so long since I talked to you. Say hello to Aunt June from me.
Love from Drusilla.
Dru read through the letter, then attached it to a brown owl. She watched it fly away, and then she moved her eyes towards the blue lake. It was clear today, no giant squib was in sight.

It was strange, the school. The beautiful giant cat didn't understand why so many human offspring had to be sent to such a large building to learn to be magic. They could be kept home, with their blood related families, being taught by them, instead of being in such a large area with other... humans. Let alone with other creatures.
A range between deep and high-pitch frightened hoots erupted from the room, along with the just released owl, most of them trying so badly to fly to safety. But the only way out was through the door, and that was where the magnificent beast set her dinner-plate paws. Thus, a flurry of feathers were dropping lightly from the birds.
Those ethereal amber orbs stared up at them, whilst, due to the splotted light, her brilliant black rosettes glistened. She had already had a meal for lunch, so she wasn't exactly on the hunt for a mangy feathered rat. Nevertheless, Lothani definately looked threatening, her cat form standing an astonishing 6 feet to the shoulder. After a long pause, a few of the owls worked out they were not in danger, since the cat had not moved, especially when her gaze was averted to the short, violet-haired girl.

Dru felt someone watching her. She turned from the window and saw a large cat look at her. Panic. Dru felt fear well up in her. She'd heard about the Demons, but she'd never been so close to one before. In fact, she'd never seen one at all.
She assumed that this was a Demon. There was something about its eyes that made it...different from other cats. Besides, there was the size. No cat was that large.
Her eyes filled with panic, Dru tried to move, but she was so frightened that she couldn't. She just stood there, watching the cat, waiting for it to move.

Stare. That's all the giant cat did at the moment. Staring at the girl. It seemed to amuse that little spark inside the beautiful beast, the one that was satisfied with a hunt, whether it be deer-game, or human-game. It was strange, not wanting to hunt down the student before the Demon.
The dark glare of the cat sent to the girl probably shook her to the bone. Lothani snorted, causing more of a flutter with the owls.
The cat's lips parted and her tongue spelt out in english "Frozen, are we?"

"I...I.." Dru couldn't speak. Every muscle in her was trembling with fear, but she tried to gather herself. "It's just... that I-I've never seen a-a Demon before," she finally got to say after taking a deep breath.
Still scared, she moved a bit closer to the wall, making the distance between the Demon and the student bigger.
"What do you want? she said, studying the Demon, her eyes still filled with fear, but now curiosity found its way and took a place in them, too.

A malicious chuckle rounded the girl, sounding as if it had come from all directions in various echoes. "My dear, what makes you think I am demon? If I were a demon, would I have a need to come into the school grounds?" Lothani replied, still letting her mind over-flow in the laughter.
The girl was young, and probably had only been at the school for around six months, but of course, the Rapah couldn't tell too well. It was so.. strange... to have the scents of various owls rivetting from all over, filling her nostrels intensely.

"Well, a talking cat isn't that normal." Dru had to smile for a moment, not looking at the cat, but lost in her own thoughts. Then she said: "If you were a Demon, why should you not come to the school? There are lots of students here, victims you can hunt down easily. Why shouldn't you be tempted to enter this place?"
She fell silent, shocked over her own words. What the..? What did I just say? she asked herself over and over, staring at the huge cat, afraid that her words may have made it angry.
"Do you wish to harm me?" she asked after a while, her voice thin, almost inaudible. Fright rose in her again, as she wondered what would happen to her.
I don't want to die.

The girl seemed to even suprise herself. But it wasn't such a shock for the Rapah, aware of the comments humans have said in the past... god knows how long she's been alive. "My dear... you don't want to die, eh? But there is so much more in death. You could come back, as another creature. Or perhaps, die and remain dead. As a Vampire. Or even as a spirit." her voice was gentle, as if water off a duck's back, but a malicious tone was held behind it.
Stepping slightly closer to the student on those dinner-plate paws, the giant cat stared up towards the roof. Those little rats did look tasty, but why hunt up high when there was prey before her? But no. She would not hunt this one. No need to waste energy.

"No, I don't want to die. Death is nothing like life. If I was a Vampire, I'd had to kill other living creatures to keep myself alive. Not that humans don't do that.. But no. I don't want to die," she repeated, calmer now, but still the fear remained in her, gnawing at her thoughts.
What does it want from me? she thought, if it doesn't want to kill me. She stared the Demon straight in the cold eyes. It moved closer, making Dru's heart beat faster. Will it kill me? Please, don't let it kill me.
"Please don't..." she whispered, falling slowly to the ground, her back to the wall, her eyes wide open, looking for the slightest gesture of meaning to kill.

The beautiful beast chuckled. This was what she loved. The old hunts were the only ones with the cowering victims though, which was a downer. The demon continued to tap into the girl's thoughts, as if feeding off them, causing her to thrive. The girl dropped to the ground, and those amber eyes smiled down on the girl. It was not a malicious smile, but a plain, simple one. The sort that little children show in obliviousness.
A paw lifted, and stroked the girl's cheek lightly with the back of the paw, brushing her soft, black fur against it. "My dear, you're not on the menu tonight. Don't fear me... right now anyway." Her voice was a little more gentle now, like a brush through unknotted straight hair.

"What...?" Dru was was shocked by the toucjing of the paw, but now the Demon said she wouldn't die? It didn't make sence. Not that she wasn't grateful.
"I'm not?" she asked, confusion in her big eyes. "You won't kill me?" For one moment she just stared at the cat. Then, slwoly, she tried to rise, her legs still shaky after the fear of death.
She smiled weakly, but with felief and thankfulness in it.

This made her chuckle slightly more, but was mixed in slightly with what humans would call 'purring'. Now that the girl was standing, Lothani lowered her paw to the ground, and smiled as much as she could. It was not a real smile of course. Lothani hadnever really created one in her form. "Why is it such a shock to hear?" she asked, genuinely interested.

"it's just that I've heard so much awful about Demons.. That all they do, is killing every living creature they meet."
Dru was calmer now, knowing that the Demon wouldn't hurt her. A smile appeared on her face.

The smile played on the Demon's lips, but turned slightly cold. "Well, yeah. But we do take breaks from the hunting sprees." Lothani replied coyley, whilst backing towards the entrance.
With her back towards the girl now, her head turned around to see her once more. And with a swish of her tail in the air, the giant cat began to slowly stride towards the door. The exit to the human prison.

Dru wondered if the cat would leave her now, a hope grew in her. She really wanted to go back to the common room, to stay there, to never meet any Demons again.
"Am I to leave now?" she whispered, her voice emotionless, like she didn't care what would happen to her. That was a lie. She knew it, and she assumed that the Demon knew it, too. But she didn't really care what the Demon thought of her. If she only could get out from here!
