A letter from home means a lot to Lars. He knew there might be a chance of not receiving one from his family, but he did. Lars walked into the Owlery for the second time of his life. He looked around seeing it was much brighter and much quieter. Lars remembered the last time he was here, which led him into a lake, and then almost in trouble. Lars was going to call out to see if anyone was inside, but he did not want to talk much. He would if approached, but he would try to make it pretty quick.
He saw his owl, Samus, perched on the windowsill looking into the bright blue sky of the evening. “Hello Samus,” he said trying to be quiet. The owl flew right to him and landed on his right shoulder. Samus was more of a friend than a pet to Lars, which made a special bond between themselves. He trained Samus very well it was like a robot that was voice activated. He knew that there isn’t robots that can do stuff, but that was the only thought that crossed his mind. He knew there might be a chance of robots right in the present, because he just figured out that there is magic in the present.
Samus was holding a letter in his talons of his left claw. He saw that it said Lars Claybourne on the front of it. Lars took the letter out of his owl claw nicely, so he would not get afraid. “Hey Samus do you want to see what the letter says?” he asked even though the owl wouldn’t be able to answer it properly. Lars trained it to flap his wings if the answer was yes. The owl almost instantaneously flapped his wings. “Okay here we go,” he said, taking a deep breath.
“Dear Lars, we are happy you are fine. We are also missing you, even your brother. We are happy that you made some new friends, and that you are reading. Even though you are probably reading magic books, we still support you. We are still mad, but we are learning to get over it. You can write back as soon as you want, but remember that owls need there rest too.” He read out loud. He stopped as he smiled, and realized that they are getting over it. He started reading again, “PS, we have sent you a picture of you brother, which is in the same envelope. Love you always, your family.” He was so happy he almost began to cry, but he did not wanted to make a big scene.
“See Samus, they still love me,” he said very quietly. Lars looked at the picture of his brother that they had sent them and smiled. He now can prove that he has a brother. Lars put Samus in the cage that he was holding behind his back. He sat the cage down, so he could get the papers together. He looked out the window and blanked out.
