Narijima slowly climbed the stairs to the astronomy tower, running her hand along the stone wall as she climbed. Her fingers shook as they danced along the grooves in the stone, dipping in and out of the occasional hidden crevice. Her eyes were red-rimmed and there were tracks down her cheeks from where the tears had run, though her eyes were dry now.
Cresting the top of the stairs, she looked around, searching for anyone else that might be there, but the tower was empty. Sighing in relief that she was, indeed, alone, she walked softly over to a bench. She sat down, leaning back and letting her head fall against the back of the bench. Stars twinkled down at her, almost as if they were giggling happily far above. Tears filled her eyes once more as she watched the stars, and she turned away from the sky.
Placing her face in her hands, Narijima cried, sobs shaking her body. Her sides heaved as her breaths came as short gasps. She missed home so much! She hadn't heard from her family or any of her friends since she had left more than a month ago and the lack of contact was starting to get to her. Not being that good at English yet, she hadn't made many friends and had no one to talk to, much as she wished for a confidant.
After what seemed an eternity, her sobs slowed and, eventually, stopped. Her face rose from where it was cradled in her hands, eyes even redder than before. Exhausted, she laid down across the bench, closing her eyes as she curled into herself. A last, rogue tear rolled down her cheek as she fell asleep.

Ondrea walked up to the astronomy tower, she loved falling asleep under the stars. She heard the distant sounds of someone sobbing, she could just make out the image of the person who the cries belonged to. Not wanting to bother the person she silently walked past her, hoping that the girl would be all right.
Quietly Ondreas' cat Shadow followed her, "prima donna beau!" he exclaimed.
Ondrea nodded, putting her finger to her lips, shushing her beautiful black cat. When passing the girl, she placed a lovely red rose on her stomach, she had just been in the graveyard, and was putting roses, on the lonely tomb-stones, and there was one extra.
Sitting on the ground, leaning on the wall, Ondrea began to hum her facourite song, she was too embarrassed to sing. Shadow came to her and curled up on her lap, as his bright eyes stared out into the night sky.

Narijima didn't wake when the girl wandered by, placing a rose on her stomach, merely shifted position slightly. Her hand rose to her face, cradling her cheek in her hand as she slumbered on. Visions of people left behind, awaiting her return home, danced across her mind's eye almost mockingly. A small whimper escaped her throat as her right hand came down to clutch the rose convulsively. Not even the prick of thorns woke her.
Moments later, Narijima started awake, rose flying from her hand. She looked wildly around the tower but did not find what she was looking for. She was still alone.
Wait, not entirely alone. Someone's soft humming reached her ears and she turned towards the sound. A girl sat against the wall of the astronomy tower, quietly humming to herself. A black cat sat in the girl's lap, gazing up at the star-lit sky.
Narijima blushed slightly, aware of how strange her own behavior must seem to the other. She quickly averted her gaze, turning away from the girl in embarrassment. Still sitting on the bench, she brought her knees to her chest, hugging them tightly to herself, and laid her head against them. A soft sigh escaped her lips as she relaxed once more, listening to the soothing sound of the other's humming.

Ondrea stopped humming, when she saw out of the corner of her eye, the girl awaken. Slowly she turned her pale face in her direction, and smiled. Shadow felt Ondrea move, and immediatly he knew that the girl was awake, and did his usual introduction.
Walking over to the girl he offered his paw, "Bonjour, je mapell Shadow, et tu?" he spoke.
Ondrea walked up behind Shadow, scooping him up, "Shadow quit it, not everyone know french."
Ondrea looked up at the girl, "Hey."

Narijima heard the humming stop and raised her head from her knees. She glanced briefly over her shoulder to see the girl approaching, then turned back around.
When the cat spoke to her in French and offered her its paw, as though to shake hands, she looked at it confusedly. Only when its owner scooped it up did she remember the other girl. She watched bemusedly as the student scolded the cat, and smiled when the girl addressed her.
"Hello," she replied softly, watching the black cat carefully. She had never seen a talking cat before. After a moment, she blushed, remembering her manners.
"My name is Narijima. What is yours?" she asked. Pausing for a moment to collect her thoughts, she added, "Nice cat. What is his name?"

"Nice to meet you, Narijima, I am Ondrea. This is my cat Shadow, he likes to boast and show off that he can speak in different languages." Ondrea rolled her eyes at Shadow.
"My apologies Ms. Narijima, it is a pleasure to meet you." spoke Shadow.
"May I ask what brings you up here so late at night?" Ondrea said, "I come up her to clear my mind, look at the beautiful stars, sometimes fall asleep peacefully."

Narijima nodded in response to the answers she had received, reaching out to pet Shadow slightly. When Ondrea asked why she was up in the tower so late, she turned away, fresh tears forming in her eyes. She took a few deep breaths to regain control, then turned back to Ondrea, a small, sad smile on her face.
"I just.... come here to think," she said brokenly. "I am homesick."
Shrugging, brushed a strand of hair from her face as she considered her next words.
"I have not... received letter. From my family or friend," she elaborated, gesturing to the horizon behind her as if to illustrate her point. "I miss them."
She lowered her gaze once more, thinking back to when she had left home. Her friends had all promised to write, but no one had so far. Narijima sighed, mind wandering off towards home.

Ondrea felt bad for even bringing the subject up, as the girl turned away, when she looked back, a sad look upon her face.
"I am sorry," Ondrea said quietly, "I don't recieve letters from anyone either... I guess you don't get them from the dead." Ondrea said quietly, "But anyway, have you tried writing them, maybe they don't have the address or something." Ondrea said, knowing how lame she sounded.
The moment Shadow saw the girl looking upset, he thought about what he should do to cheer her up, all he could think to do, was to cuddle, a last resort. Prouncing up onto Narijimas' lap, he purred quietly, and curling up on it.
