Finally, after a long, sleepless night, Adhara decided that the benefits of visiting the Astronomy Tower far outweighed the negative effects any thoughts stirred up by a visit might have. It wasn't as if she hadn't been constantly re-playing certain memories over and over again in her mind since she returned to MH. Her bare feet made no noise as she padded silently over the now-cool grey flagstone floor towards a large window well.
Addie trained her eyes back out the window, propping her head in her palm. The fingers of her other hand smoothed the silk of her dressing gown in an unconscious movement as she stared at the stars and contemplated her thoughts. A light breeze tickled the end of her hair against her collar bone, although it actually was behaving itself tonight and staying within the confines of a black satin ribbon she'd tied it back with. Granted, that probably was because she'd used a straightening charm.
Though the night had cooled slightly, Adhara was perfectly warm even though all she was wearing was the light dressing gown and a dark emerald silk nightdress thanks to the earring. It had been a Christmas present from an old friend of hers, and had charms that would adjust body temperature to the weather outside. Adhara adored it and personally thought that it was the most useful trinket she owned.
She traced a fingertip over the stone remembering how she had been ensconced in it so long ago during a conversation with Zowan. Her heart gave a slight pang as she thought of the kind, blue haired boy and wondered where he was now. The green eyed girl hoped against hope that all was well for him. She could still remember their conversation out on the quidditch pitch, and felt another pang lurch near her heart. He was one of her best friends, and she hadn't heard from him in months. All of her owls kept coming back with the letters unopened, looking extremely agitated.
Her return was both an immense comfort and an enormous hurt. On one hand, most of her friends were still here, and she still felt as if she belonged within these walls more than any other place in the world. But at the same time, there were gaps, there were people who had been an enormous part of the brunette's life and were no longer in it.
The most obvious example she had met in this very tower, and Michaela had altered her life and perceptions in ways that the Gryffindor never believed possible. Mich had even turned up at the school she'd transferred to, although she claimed not to have followed her there. Addie wasn't sure what stung more--that Mich actually hadn't, or if she had, refused to admit it.
The green eyed girl had been so sure that it was the vampiress she'd heard in the forest earlier that evening. The questions that mere moment caused to surface in her mind kept her from being able to go back to bed and sleep. If it had been Mich, why had she gone? They'd parted on good terms, there was no reason (at least to Adhara) that Michaela should have for avoiding her.
At least the answer to the flip side of that question was one that the brunette had. She was so disappointed because she wanted it to have been Mich. She and the vampiress had met in this tower, brought together by mutual hurt. It was the closest that Addie could get to her at the moment, when she most wanted to be held in those porcelain arms again.
A slow tear tracked its way down her cheek and she brushed it away with a thumb, the almost furious movement causing her to snag her long earring made up of dangling silver leaves with a fingernail and curse. A moment later she ruefully rubbed her ear and rolled her eyes at herself. She really was managing to work herself up into quite the mood at the moment.
