Forgoil ascended the long flight of stairs leading to the Astronomy Tower; weary from a day full of classes and studying.
Upon reaching the top of the tower, Forgoil lay down near the edge and looked up into the starlit sky. His eyes probed the deep depths of spaces; searching for one constellation and his star. After minutes of searching, Forgoil had found his quarry which was the constellation Canis Major and its star.....
Sirius.
Forgoil called Sirius his star because on his birthday the star always ascended to its highest position and shone its brightest. While admiring Sirius' beauty, Forgoil's mind turned to the nearing battle.
He didn't want to leave the school because he had grown so attached to it and being there he felt safe; however, it made sense to evacuate the younger students, himself included, to their families' homes.
But Forgoil had no family nor a home and thus sprung his confusion. However, as his mind reeled with many different fates that could be contemplated, he thought he heard the sound of approaching footsteps.

Lynette swept up the stairs into the Astronomy Tower, her thick red hair swinging limply over her shoulders. She froze mutely for a moment, a frail black outline in the doorway, before stepping out. She craned her neck to look at the stars, resting nimble white fingers on her unnecesary slim hips.
Despite the several layers of clothing clinging to her frame, Lynette was so obviously a slight girl. She buttoned up her black coat to the collar with a shiver, letting a low whistle escape her throat. The stars are pretty tonight. She chewed on the corner of her mouth, her boot heels clicking dully with every step.
But on step she felt her boot touch something much softer then the stone floor. "Oh!" She gasped, back peddling several steps. She stared at the boy in frustrated surprise, humbled that she had been caught looking so childish.
"Jesus. I'm so sorry!" She mumbled to the boy, rubbing the back of her neck awkwardly. "I didn't see you there."

As Forgoil gazed up at the sky, he felt the weight of a boot come into contact with his shoulder. Wincing at the small amount of pain that came from the bruise, he slowly stood to his feet and looked upon a girl who stared at him in shock. Seeing that she seemed quite concerned about the damage that had been done, Forgoil responded in a quite but comforting tone,"No, its alright; this just shows me that I should be a bit more careful in choosing where I decide to star gaze."
Examining the girl, Forgoil saw that they had never met, and felt inclined to introduce himself. "I have forgotten my manners; Forgoil Halifirien at your service. What brings you up to the tower? To contemplate the cosmos or is it something else?" inquired Forgoil.

"Lynette," she responded promptly. "And, er, no. Nothing more then the stars." She told him hastily, crossing her arms and smiling tightly. She tried to repress a second shiver. It really wasn't so cold out, but she had worn gloves cut off at the fingertips and a sweater on beneath her coat.
"I didn't mean to interrupt you," she added apologetically. "You can lay back down now if you'd like to. I promise I won't step on you again." She laughed feebly.

Letting a grin escape his notice, Forgoil resumed his position on the tower and gazed once again at the stars. Looking back at Lynette, he thought that she seemed slightly troubled about something. Deciding not to press the issue, Forgoil resumed his watch of the heavens; yet he couldn't stand that there was another person to talk to, but she didn't seem interested in talking.
He then asked,"So what is it about the stars that draws you here?"

"Um." Lynette murmured, looking at the boy for a moment before looking back upward. "I suppose because there's so many of them." She cringed slightly, hugging herself even tigheter as she walked closer to the edge of the tower.
"They're all suns, the center of so many other solar systems. Every single star means a whole other world. It's rather comforting." Her eyes crinkled slightly, wondering if it was impossible not to get corny about life when you're looking at the stars.
"Do you have a reason for stargazing, then?" She asked lightly, squeezing the bridge of her nose gingerly.

"Its a form of solace that I treat myself to whenever the constellation Canis Major is in the sky," replied Forgoil,"I do it for personal reasons, but just looking at the stars is so...beautiful."
He had noticed how Lynette cringed occasionally, wondering if it was from the cold or for other reasons. Slowly standing up, Forgoil walked over to Lynette and wrapped his woolen overcoat around her. As Forgoil stepped back, the wind picked up and whipped about his robes, causing him to ask Lynette,"Feel any better?"

Lynette peered curiously into the boys face, smiling uncertainly, but not displeased. "Thank you, you're kind." She said quietly, pulling it around tighter. She looked back up at the sky, leaning her cheek into the scratchy wool coat, her smile growing.
"Which constellation is the Canis Major?" She asked him faintly.

"Well, Canis Major is off to the far right," said Forgoil as he pointed toward Canis Major,"Its biggest star is Sirius, a double star that is one of the brightest stars in the night sky. Whenever I look up and see Sirius, I feel comforted and safe from the outside world. That is why I am really up here for. Contemplating what will happen in the upcoming fight. I am too young to fight, but if I am sent home; I have no home to return to."
Forgoil was relieved at telling some one else about how he felt about what was coming and he hoped that Lynette would understand his inner turmoil.

"Oh, yes. I see. The fight." Lynette breathed, feeling suddenly cautious. She eyed Forgoil again with a more suspicious eye, but pushed the thought to the back of her mind. You're ridiculous, she reminded herself. He's a student. He's on your side.
She gasped a little for air, knotting fingers up in the cloak he had lent to her. "How much do you, um, know about the fight?" She asked him quietly.

Looking at Lynette incredulously, Forgoil responded in a calm tone,"Surely you must know that the best keep secrets are the ones people desire to learn more about. If I told you how I found out; I know that I would be punished. I wanted to fight to defend the school, but I'm too young and hardly know any spells; the only thing that would keep me alive are my fencing abilities; but as I said, I am too young to defend what I think is right."
A surge of pain and longing coursed through Forgoil's veins as he silently wished that he could fight, and protect those who he felt honor bound to protect. He knew that he would be slaughtered if he fought now, but the agony of being treated like a child was just to much for him.
Tears of frustration flowed down his face. "And I am not leaving the place that to me is my home," said Forgoil with resolve lacing his response,"I will obey the wishes of the professors, but I am not leaving the castle!"
Seeig himself transform from his benign persona into a firebrand, Forgoil tried to recover his composure, but the tears keep on coming. "Please Lynette; please forgive me for this outburst," said Forgoil in a near silent whisper,"Its just that I have found my family and don't want to leave it."

Lynette stared, most bewildered by an unusual show of emotion coming from a boy. She smiled uncomfortably, at a loss as to what she should say. She wasn't even so sure why he was so emotional.
"I, er," she coughed. "Sorry. Why can't you fight?" She asked tentatively, shrugging off his coat and handing it back to him. She took a small step backward and crossed her arms loosely, watching Forgoil with concern.

"I told you already; the professors forbid the first years to fight. I am a first year, and yet I am 15. It's a strange age to be a first year, but the heads didn't know of my potetial until recently. Otherwise I would be a fifth year by now and defending the Castle with the others.", said Forgoil, as the tears to began to dry and his sanity was slowly returning to him. Seeing her somewhat bewildered, but concerned look, Forgoil guessed to why she looked this way.
"You have never seen a boy cry, have you?" questioned Forgoil,"Of this I can assure you; I not the only boy who crys when he is racked with pain and grief."
Continuing to gaze up at Lynette, Forgoil asked,"Why did you ask about me knowing about the war? Unless you're taking part in it!"

Lynette bit her lip. "I...am." She answered slowly. "But I hardly know what I'm doing. You'd probably be of more use then little me." She cringed into a smile.
"And, please. Don't be some pessimistic. Everything will be fine. I have faith in Professor Windwaltz, and Aidana, and all of them, they're all brilliant fighters. We'll be fine. No one's going to take away your home." She said gently.

It was the eve of the battle. Even though the Prefect wouldn't admit it, she was nervous. The battle could cost her everything. Who knew what kind of curses and hexes Danawi and his followers could inflict upon them? She could lose her mind, lost her ability to move around or even....
Biting down hard on her lip, she shook her head and tried not to think about it. All she was doing was making herself even more nervous, which wasn't helping. She needed a clear mind... somewhere to think. Yawning, Faye slipped out of bed and pulled on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. She was going to the Astronomy Tower.
Suprisingly, the night was clear and the stars were shining bright. As she walked up to the tower entrance, she could hear voices talking quitely, but decided that they wouldn't mind some company. She moved over to the edge of the Tower railing, dangling her fingers over the edge and daydreaming until she actually recognized one of the voices. Forgoil?
Glancing up, she noticed that it sounded like he was crying. Even though she could hardly make out the words he spoke, she knew it was about the war. There was hardly a dry eye in the whole school and he was obviously no exception.
"Nothing's going to happen, Forgoil." She said in a low tone, mustering as much of a smile as she could manage. "The school will be safe. I know who is leading the attack on Danawi and I trust them. Because... I'll be going with them. And if nothing else, you have to have faith."
