In the large circular room at the top of the Astronomy Tower, at the end of a winding, spiral staircase, sat a red-haired Vampire on a deserted stone bench. In one long-fingered, pallid hand was a hunk of wood, and in the other was a switchblade.
A carving knife would have been better, certainly, but whittling with his silver-handled switchblade was much more interesting.
Sliver after miniscule sliver of wood fell from the shape in his hands as he shaved off the blank space around the image in his mind, rather than concentrating on the design itself. It wasn't so much removed from sculpting - actually it wasn't really unlike it at all. Same principle, different medium.
Cole had seen an eagle swooping above the Owlery a few nights past, and ever since, the picture had been etched across the back of his eyelids. He knew who the eagle belonged to, oh yes, but that didn't quell the urge to spill the image from his mind in the form of art.
The Vampire bent slightly over his work, his eyes unblinking and focused as he fought the desire to send his hands racing along, forcing his fingers into steady, deliberate movements as he worked.

Atticus ran up the steps to the Astronomy Tower, with the hopes of writing more of his Essay on Mercury before it became too late to see it in the night sky.
But as he entered the large circular room at the top of the Tower, he stopped as something caught his eye.
A familiar redheaded Vampire was bent over a piece of soft wood, stroking away thin shavings as his blade worked tirelessly back and forth, back and forth. The sliver blade flashed with light that shone back to the walls surrounding them, dancing across the stone, leaving blurry streaks in Atticus' vision.
Hypnotized, he took a few steps towards the carver; trying to see what it was that the creature was creating.
