Despite the fact that the Great Hall was now mostly empty, the doors had never closed, as was usual procedure. In retrospect, that was likely a good thing, for the being that slipped through the gap between them would have had some trouble attempting to shift their oaken bulk inward.
The owl that swooped into the room, perching on an empty chair, was quickly followed by a girl with raven-wing hair and a thoughtful expression. After giving it some thought, it hadn't really taken much too figure out where she should have gone first, and now she was a bit mystified as to why the owl would have led her back here instead.
Hikalyn peered at the bird as if expecting it to simply come out and tell her what it was about, but staring back with a serenely amber gaze, it gave her no further hints. Kalyn shrugged--she hadn't really expected it to . Rather than dwell on it, the girl cast her eyes about the room, searching for something else that might tell her why she was here. At first, with the Hall being emptied of most of the people that usually filled it at mealtimes, the Hall seemed stark and empty, and for a moment Kalyn found herself completely and utterly mystified. Her gaze wandered and lifted, and she found her focus drawn up towards the vaulted ceiling. Clouds swirled across its length like wisps of smoke, providing a filter for the rays of winter sun that spilled across the floor. Anyone who didn't know better might well have thought they were standing outside, and not in a thick-walled room. Those who attended the school, of course, knew that the ceiling of the Great Hall bore a strong enchantment, bewitched to mirror the sky outside.
I await your 'urge' to make me 'vanish', at a specfic time you enter this place.
She hadn't given much thought to any of the other clues, hadn't even bothered committing any of the other ones to memory; she had been fixed singularly on her destination before. But now, staring up at the "glittering sky" mentioned in another one of Jazelle's clues, it sparked in her memory.
Hikalyn nodded to herself. That was why the owl had led her back here, then; the ceiling above was the 'glittering sky' and the item she was searching for would be somewhere in here. Not for the first time, she wished she knew what it was that she was looking for, but that information had been held close. The only hint she had was that the item was distinguished by a purple wax seal.
She gave the room a brief, broad scan, as if she suspected that which she was searching for to simply leap out at her, and then set to searching more thoroughly. Walking briskly, but taking care not to miss anything, she picked her way through tables and chairs, peered in corners and visually combed the floor, ignoring the fact that a few others had had the same idea and were now making their own searches through the Hall as well.
