An icy gaze swept over the residents of the hall and the young woman’s cloaked figure moved with ease. The deep cobalt fabric whispered as she steadily paced forward; a small hand reached to brush the hood from her head and it fell to her shoulders, revealing silken black locks that caressed her cheeks, their wavy strands reaching her mid-back; thin tendrils hung delicately in front of her ears and she subconsciously tucked them back, only to have them slip out again. Ivory skin seemed even paler in the mediocre light that splashed her slender bodice, and her concealed arm flicked from the satin and pulled out a bulging bronze cage; within an owl cooed gently and swiveled a magnificent head to peer at her master. A small smile hesitated on the garnet lips of the student, who raised the bar lock of the cage and withdrew the bird. Grasping the rough-skinned talons of her owl, Katura pursed her lips in a mimicking coo and gently set the bird atop her shoulders. Blinking rapidly, the nocturnal creature sidled closer to the teenager, her gold beak a sharp contrast amidst a sea of pearly feathers that were enclosed in a peculiar heart-like shape that crested the pristine head of the owl; her honey-hued feathers ruffled slightly and she brought her head sharply between feathered shoulder blades.
A smirk replaced the small smile that had curled the young woman’s jaw and her eyes, a light cerulean that competed with the raven-coloured tresses that were entangled about Katura’s face, were sharp and confident as she set her jaw proudly; she had come to Magical Horizons to study the ways and laws of all magical abilities, not to cower before older and, indeed, more experienced members of the houses. Turning around, her stare shifted to the large bag that contained all items precious and not to the Ravenclaw student, and, with an indignant squawk from the owl that rested on her shoulder, swung stridently around to grasp the leather handle firmly in one hand while soothing the disheveled bird with the other. This was not, by any means, the entrance she had hoped for. Cursing darkly as the bag jarred her steps she lowered it beside the bronze crate that had previously held the burden that now weighed her shoulder.
"Sora," Katura comforted the barn owl, whose face had taken on the odd appearance of a disgruntled youngling, with her affectionate nickname. "A little while, Sephora." Looking up with a tense frown, the girl again tucked each strand of black hair tediously behind an ear and looked around her before shrugging and lifting Sephora and placing her in the confinement of the cage once more.

Teagan silently stepped out of her common room. By now, everyone was in their dorm rooms--or should have been, anyway. Often, Ravenclaw students slipped out during the darker hours to explore, wander, shatter some rules, or just attempt to find some peace of mind. Many times, Teagan had secretively watched them exit the common room past the hours they were permitted. It was their choice to leave, not hers.
While, she did have the option of halting their escapades, she felt that most things were learned by a person's choices and not the rules set before them. After all, there really were no rules in the game of survival. None. None at all. Loyalties were like insects in a tree sharing a mutual benefit with their shelter. As long as the tree continued to aid them, the bugs protected it. As soon as the tree was to begin the last stage of its life, however, the plant would be carelessly abandoned. Like with humans, loyalties only existed while it was the best option of both sides in the current situation. Easily, they could turn, twist. In real life, there is no one, no one, you can completely trust. Trust is only a thing by greed, and the victor is always the one that manages to manipulate it to the best of their skills. That's the way it always is, decided the prefect. Like an abused pet, she would never trust again. This was the decision she had made long ago, nearly exactly one year and four months ago. That particular date, no matter how much she tried to fling it from her mind, would always be there. Always, no matter how she hated the memory. It was the leech that she had no flame to kill with.
Her articulate fingers tightened around the doorway as she finally reinforced the pained words of her thinking. Nearly, she had started to trust dear Persephone and Samantha; it wasn't going to happen. Finally, she moved her flexible body through passageway and into the halls. She wasn't going to criticize others for going out late, and she wasn't intending to do so to herself, either. Besides, prefects had certain privileges with the rules. One such fact was that they could always go outside of their rooms after curfew and state that they were patrolling the corridors; Teagan had found that the excuse worked every time for any person who cared. Now, she could leave whenever she desired any escape, no matter how short or a time.
The Ravenclaw's red eyes remained calmly tinged with violet as she gazed under her dark lashes at the knight. About half of a minute after her exit, he had slowly moved back into position. So far, all was well. Yet, she wondered whether or not the other Ravenclaw Prefect would venture around soon. It wasn't as if Teagan told her that she was leaving, but she doubted that it would continue to be so peaceful if something entered the common room at such a late time and caused some mass chaos; most likely, if neither prefect was there at the time, they would get blamed for the act. Of course, it was also unlikely that anyone would bother entering their common room. After all, the Gryffindors were the ones that continued to cause most of the trouble.
Ah well, she quietly muttered in her head, banishing the worthless worries plaguing her; at least, for the moment. The prefect's naturally straight, red hair trailed behind her as slenderly as the outside snow gently blew across the rest of the solid molecules with two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. Earlier, when she'd first arrived toward the end of the previous year, Teagan's simple black shoes sometimes made gentle noises against the stone floors. Though she had been careful to be extremely articulate then, she had simply had more practice by now; unsurprisingly, she often ventured out of the common room during the night. She wasn't a "people person." Not since over a year ago.
Eventually, she chose to head to the Entrance Hall; one might be surprised by how many students had the intuitive to arrive at such a late time. In fact, about half of the Magic Horizons students arrived during a period of darkness whether it be the night, raining, or filled with clouds dripping with snow and ice. Her un-echoing steps paused, as she glanced downward and noticed that a figure was indeed there. What a surprise, came the naturally sarcastic thought in Teagan's mind. Apparently, the student was new as well.
Delicately, she lowered herself down the steps, but she didn't do so delicately enough to take her several minutes for the short trip. The girl she was nearing appeared to have lovely raven-colored locks of hair. She was putting her owl back into its cage. Perhaps, the latest arrival also needed to pay a trip to the owlery?
As Teagan finished her decent, she approached the other girl, but stopped about ten feet from the being. Unconsciously, she also remained in the shadows. The prefect was in her regular robes, as she didn't want to bother with muggle things, but the badge naming her position was being kept in her pocket and not flashed around. She hadn't really wanted to become a prefect, but she'd stick with it; of course, part of the reason was that she wasn't confined to certain regulations such as walking around at midnight or wearing the aggravating symbol all the time she was venturing. She didn't actively think that it would matter for her to get it out; normally, she would do so to greet a new student, but the impudent thought merely slipped her mind.
With the distance between them, Teagan didn't know whether her 5' 5" hight was shorter, taller, or equal to the other student; nor did she actually care. The girl before her suspiciously reminded her of someone, but who that someone was, she didn't remember. It was interesting how things like this turned out; actually, it hadn't happened at their school for quite a while. The last person she thought resembled someone was the boy with violet eyes, but she knew who he resembled. The prefect's lips curled up into a small smile. Though it was fraud, no one had yet to not fall for it because of the way the rest of her facial features and movements matched it all so naturally like fluid water; no underlying feelings were seen beneath the graceful surface. "I take you're new?"
