It had taken her a full day to gather enough courage for the visit to the Valkeries' Hideaway, and she actually turned around and went back to the Ravenclaw Common Room twice. Finally exasperated with herself, she once more gathered up the purchases that she had made at Hogsmeade earlier that afternoon and left for the third time.
Speaking of 'third times', it would be only the third time she had ever ventured into the Hideaway. The first she remembered vividly, as if it had happened yesterday, the second, hardly at all. On her first visit, Whisper had bestowed upon her a second pair of eyes, a different way of seeing, and the last time she had been inside was to choose either life or death on Whisper's bed after a possessed Ace had nearly murdered her.
These thoughts were distant, though, she was more aware of the gifts she brought, which were clutched tightly to her chest. In one large package that had been wrapped quite a few times with brown paper were quite a few slightly thawing raw steaks. The other was a small box which contained a delicate necklace - a silver chain upon with hung a smoothly polished amythest stone that almost perfectly matched the violet of Whisper's eyes.
"Whisper? Kasatzia?" Branwen murmured softly as she stepped into the Hideaway, waiting for her silver eyes to adjust to the atmosphere of the Valkeries' home.

An hour earlier, Whisper had been tidying Kasatzia's room for her when her eyes suddenly turned completely white - she gasped and then, slowly, a smile spread across the Valkerie's immortal face.
Her white eyes were almost instantly replaced by her usual ethereal violet ones, and, hugging herself with inward glee, she twirled out of Kas's room and into her own, pushing past the sheer silk fabric that lay between her personal space and the rest of the Hideaway, and changed into a simple white cotton dress with frilled lace on the bodice. Still smiling, she tiptoed over to the beautiful oak dresser that held all her treasures, sentimental or literal, and she placed an unusual-looking golden coin inside one of the tiny drawers on the right.
Sighing contentedly, she settled herself on her bed and took out a book, and began to read until she heard Branwen's tentative voice.
A fierce rush of joy sent Whisper's flames roaring high up to the ceiling, and Whisper flew off the bed and entered the Hideaway, a small anticipating smile playing with her curved lips, her eyes dancing with the shadows as she advanced upon Branwen; simply glad to see her friend once again.
"Branwen?" she said softly.

Purple flames blazed from Whisper's room, and Branwen laughed delightedly as the Valkerie came into the Hideaway. Had that magical fire burst from another door in tongues of bright green, Brae would most likely have been shaking where she stood, but she well understood the chance she had taken when she entered.
Quickly placing her armload of gifts on a nearby table, the half-elf turned and forced herself to walk calmly over to Whisper. She smiled silently and stood motionless for as long as she could manage, then took another tentative step forward and carefully slipped her arms around the Valkerie's neck.
"Whisper, I missed you," she sighed into the creature's perfectly formed shoulder, then pressed her cheek to Whisper's soft, white-blonde hair. "Brought you something."

Whisper smiled, understanding the personal sacrifice Branwen had made to come here tonight, and nestled her own head in Branwen's silken hair, sighing ever so softly as a slight breeze danced around the two.
"Welcome back," said Whisper, unentwining herself from her friend. "You have no need to worry, I am the only one home. Kasatzia is out terrorising, Desdemona is sleeping in the forest, and Kaiser said he was paying a visit to the Chamber of Secrets." She smiled reasuringly at the human girl she had become so fond of, and only then recalled what Branwen had whispered into her ear.
"You have... brought me something?" she asked, her expression a dainty mixture of confusion and worry.

Branwen blew out a relieved breath and smiled ruefully at Whisper. The Valkerie had known exactly what was troubling her, and it was comforting to know there was someone around who still understood her without even trying. Yes, she was a Valkerie and could see effortlessly into her thoughts, but nevertheless, it felt wonderful to be utterly understood.
"Yes, I brought you a... some gifts," Brae replied, smiling again. "Remember when you gave me my Sight, and how that was a gift?" The Prefect's eyes flashed a soft and very muted white, and when the small clouds faded, her irises spun dreamily in soothing aquamarine whirls.
"I wanted to give you a gift as well; for that's what friends do. And we are friends, aren't we, Whisper?" Then Branwen tried something she hadn't ever done before - she attempted to delicately push the vision of what was in the packages toward the Valkerie, wondering if she could send them to Whisper before Whisper saw for herself. She blinked suddenly, finally registering everything the Valkerie said.
"Desdemona?"

Whisper felt a strange tingling sensation in her mind - something quite different from when Kasatzia sent her pictures or messages, and she instantly knew it was Branwen trying to connect with her. Closing her eyes, she tried to recieve the energies... and there it was! In the packages... a few tender, bloody steaks... and a beautiful necklace!
Having never recieved a single gift in her existence, Whisper smiled tenderly at Branwen as her violet eyes flew open. "Thankyou, so much," she said, and gave her another affectionate embrace, before addressing Branwen's unfinished question.
"Desdemona. The youngest of the Valkerie family. She has returned to us at last..." Whisper smiled happily.
