Adam couldn't remember a time when he was in as much pain as he was right then. Though, when he thought about it, he had never died before. A small smile crept onto his lips and a chuckle escaped his throat. Paralyzing pain in his chest caused Adam to double up and vomit what little food remained in his stomach and the blood that he had swallowed earlier. Vomiting had left him short on his already limited breath, and forced him to stop and rest for a moment, a moment he didn't have. He knew he had to get to the hospital, but without any help, Adam doubted he could get there in time considering his present condition. His left arm hung useless at his side, blood flowing freely from a large laceration near his shoulder. The gash there, though inches deep, was the least of his worries. By the way he had trouble breathing, and how he continually coughed up blood, Adam guessed that one of his ribs had, after being broken, pierced his lung. Blood was draining into his lung, killing him from inside his own body, drowning him in his own fluids.
Looking at the world through the eyes of a dying man that night, Adam listened to the birds sing their songs of farewell to the daylight, enjoyed the feeling of the warm, soft summer breeze on his skin, the sight of the multicolored setting sun, ushering him on to the next life. All and all, it was a good day to die. Adam questioned whether anyone truly appreciated the world until they were about to join the dead. He knew he hadn't. Speaking of which, Adam wondered what would happen to him when he died. Was there a heaven and a hell? If so, to which one would embrace him in the next life? Or did everyone who died simply cease to exist, except for their rotting corpse?
As Adam's mind wandered, his feet strayed from the path to the castle, and soon, he found himself in a place he didn't recognize. He cursed himself for not paying attention, though he didn't think he could do much about it, blood loss was making him dizzy and disoriented. When trying to get his bearings failed, Adam decided he would simply continue forward until he found some people who could help him. As it turns out, that was a very bad idea. Taking his first step forward, Adam's foot was greeted not by the earth, but by open air. He had just enough time to put a surprised expression on his face and mutter "Ohhh sh*t" before he fell.
Rolling down the hill, Adam's limp body hit trees, bushes, and rocks all the way down, bending arms and legs into shapes they were never meant to take on. Dirt, pebbles, and grass filled in his cuts, causing agony he had never experienced before. When he finally stopped, Adam coughed up more blood than ever, asuring him that he had further ripped his lung. As he tried to crawl, resounding waves of pain in his arms and chest made sure he wasn't going anywhere. Looking down at it, Adam was positive his right arm now had at least one fracture, and the left one had been useless before he started falling down the hill, let alone what happened to it then. He could feel a bone in his leg that had also broken and was close to piercing the skin. Adam knew he would not be getting up. Where ever he was, this was his final resting place. Saying one last goodbye to the world, Adam closed his eyes, and waited for the end to come.
