The moonlight filtered into the window across Rose's face as she sat on one of the few seats left - most everything had been swapped for a bed - of the third story of the Knight Bus. Her dark jacket was pulled tightly around her to counteract the cold she felt seeping in through the glass separating her from the cold black December air. A notepad sat in her lap and a quill was poised lethargically in one moonlight soaked hand.
She was heading back into Diagon Alley after spending the evening watching another dreadful adaptation of Romeo And Juliet. Her brain was filled with ridiculously translated wizard slang they had squeezed out of Shakespeare's work. And the Masquerade Ball being turned into a ridiculous, sleazy party in which they had all miraculously been able to take Polyjuice Potions was beyond terrible. The Romeo, so spunkily renamed Lil' Romeo, had the worst, most feminine squeak of a voice, she almost wanted to throw herself into a wooden stake.
It was that kind of drab humor that had gotten her the job. Her employer, a seedy wizard named Greg Spots had written to her on her last review, saying that his viewers just 'ate that Vampire stuff up.'
She scratched out a picture of Spots walking the plank with the overweight, masculine looking Juliet prodding him in the back with the rolled up trash magazine he called his own. "Ridiculous," she muttered, looking out the window as the ground outside zipped along so fast all she could see was skidding lights, besides the unwavering moon.

How many times am I going to do this? The girl thought, sitting on the Knight Bus. On her lap was a pile of books, parchment, quills, and her winter clothing. All remnants of her quick trip home from the school. She had just arrived at Magic Horizons a few days ago, yet her mother had called her all the way home to get a few more things, rather than send them to her. So once again Avian found herself on the Knight Bus wrapped in her long lilac coat, waiting to go to Magic Horizons. I didnt even have time to unpack before I left again! She thought angrily, her parents didnt have to keep summoning her back home. She would be fine over here in Europe, even though they were over in America.
Her grey eyes wandered and saw a lady sitting nearby here, looking out a window. Her mood did not seem to be pleasent, more annoyed than anything else. It was almost amusing for Avian who enjoyed watching people. You could learn so much about a person just by watching their movements and facial expressions. Shifting in her seat and moving some stray locks of red hair behind her shoulder, the Gryffindor girl got a better view. Attentive ears listened in as she tried to not be noticed studying the lady. She scratched something out with a quill, and the girl had to surpress a chuckle. She was right when she pinpointed this woman as annoyed.
Then she heard her say something, and it took a great deal of strain to actually get the word. "What is Ridiculous miss?" Her voice was light and cheery, a large grin on her face. Cocking her head to one side, she contined to smile. "Forgive my intrusion, I do not mean to interrupt or come off as getting into something that isnt my business. Im just interested in what you find so annoying, for its written all over your features." Once again she had the smile on her face, and her grey eyes were twinkling in laughter. This was amusing for Avian, and her way of making friends. But she had to wait and see how the lady took her comments.

Rose looked away from the window at the sound of a girl's voice, inquiring. Me? Rose suppressed a sigh as she met the young girl's grey eyes with her own intense blue ones. She was irritated, more then anything else about the girl, of her choice to tell Rose she was easy to read. The ocean has hidden depths, sweetheart.
Rose stretched her back in a feline arch and skirting her notebook off her lap and into the small bag at her feet before looking again at the girl. Rose probably looked like only a year older then her, but her pale skin, her presence, and the depth of her eyes suggested, rather icily, otherwise. But as the girl's grin didn't waver, and reminded her rather dangerously of herself a few years ago - though she strangled the thought before it could bloom - and she shrugged her shoulders.
"My boss," she drawled, a small smirk darting around her mouth and twitching the corners of her lips up. "And Shakespeare."

Avian nodded at the woman's response. "Dont we all find annoyance in those that hold a power over us?" Her question was retorical, but was something fun to ask all the same. The grin went smaller on her face, and she noticed something different about this person. Something more odd. Her skin is so pale, even mine is not so pale and I spend most of my time indoors, never really seeing the sun. Her eyebrow raised for a moment, but just a moment and no more, it was gone like a cool breeze on a summer's day. That inquiry could get her into some trouble, something the Gryffindor wanted nothing of. The woman already seemed annoyed with her.
"And what is so annoying of Shakespeare. His tales are epic and amazing, able to bring wonder to the mind and to the eyes! A true genius, and yet, how can you be annoyed of him or his works?" Her words were dramatic, Avian's attempt at humor. Eyes once again regaining their sparkle, she stared at Rose, waiting for an answer. In truth, the girl knew just about nothing about Shakespeare, she wasnt too into reading. And his plays gave her a headache when she attempted to actually read them out of a book.
Putting her stack of supplies on a seat next to her, she pushed her hair back behind her shoulders and put her hands behind her head. That grin was still on her face as she contined to stare at Rose, her grey eyes searching for any emotion let free. Any change in mood. Right now Avian knew the woman was annoyed with her, but all the same, she hoped to change that before she left the knight bus.

Rose's eyebrows mirrored the student's after hearing her spiel on Shakespeare's working. She tilted her head to the side, her smirk growing a little more teasing. A new toy, her dry humor drolled inside of her head.
"Fine," Rose said with a nonchalant wave of a hand. "He's a genius. Sure. So why do people always have to rework his goddamn plays over and over again? If I have to watch another version of Shakespeare in Space or something equally dreadful, I might just go throw myself out in sunlight." She smiled lightly, wondering if her insinuation would hit the girl with as much recognition as she hoped. Petrified school girls were amusing, her vampiric stomach muscles contracted suddenly. Stop that, she told herself quickly. The idea of making any sort of connection with prey, verbal or otherwise, was nauseating. She couldn't lay a hand on this girl. At least, not until her stomach got unmanageable.
"My boss hardly, as you said, holds power over me." She added frankly. "I'm more annoyed by people who make assumptions - and don't wash their hair." Spots' greasy head made her sick.

Avian listened carefully to Rose, proping her head on her hand, and her arm on her knee. She smiled at the right times. "No work of art should be reworked. It should be left as it is for all time, so people can enjoy the original. Its not a masterpiece if someone else does it too." Her eyes twinkled with mirth that was suddenly quenched when she realized what she had said. One word popped into her mind. Vampire. Without letting the emotion show in her face, Avian made quick calculation in her mind, because that was the only being who would have made a comment such as that about sunlight. I have met maybe 3 people here so far, and one of them just had to be a vampire, nice going Avian.
But it didnt take long to realize this vampire was not being cruel or unkind, and was just speaking to her. So right now, Avian would be kind as well, and treat her as normal as possible. "Well, thats good your boss doesnt hold much power over you, nobody should hold power over another. And by people who make assumtions, Im guessing you are meaning me. You just seemed a little annoyed with my presence." She said, leaning back once again in her chair, eyes studying Rose.
But then she realized something that made her want to slap herself on the forehead. You forgot to introduce yourself dummy. Reaching out her hand to the woman, a small smile was on her face. "Im Avian, from Magic Horizons. Gryffindor Student."

"Gryffindor?" Rose repeated, her smile easy as she let what Avarian had said earlier slide. She had got what she had wanted - that one second of calculation in the girls eyes. She understood.
"I'm partial to Hufflepuffs, honestly." She added airily. "But Gryffindor seems to suit you. Anyone who doesn't go running off when they realize they're standing eye to eye with a full fledged Vampiress," she wasn't sure if 'full fledged' was the correct term, as a great portion of her still hated to kill. "Is brave enough for me." The sentence seemed so friendly, and Rose surprised even herself by saying it. She hadn't spoken, really spoken to anyone in weeks. Who was she to decide what was enough for her? Her head moved a fraction of an inch to lose the thoughts. This girl, as far as Rose could tell, had no idea who she was - who she had been, rather. Times change.
"I'm Rose." She said, raising her eyes once again to watch the girl. "It's a pleasure."

Avian wrinkled her nose when she said Hufflepuffs. Sure, she was brave. But someone who was overly brave was often foolish. "I wont go running unless someone gives me a reason to. And I guess since you are willing to say in the open that you are a vampire, I shouldnt fear to do so as well. You have given me no reason to fear you as of yet, you havnt been mean or threatened me in any way. In fact, conversation has been pleasant. Plus, I know how to take care of myself. I guess all characteristics that make me a Gryffindor, and not a Hufflepuff. I take it you were a Hufflepuff when you were at school? Not one for shaking hands?"
Her hand was still extended, something she did when she met someone new. She wasnt going to remove the offer unless Rose rejected it. It wouldnt be polite to do so. "Rose, what a pretty name. Named after the world's most romantic flower. Do you reflect its personality?" Another of her small smiles appeared. But she thought of something else to say, rather than small talk.
"Forgive my intrusion on this matter, Ive only known you a few minutes, but when you get a question in my head, it comes out. How long have you been a vampire? You look not older than me, but I know that cannot be a good reckoning of your age." Her eyes sparkled with cheer, but also a bit of interest. Now she was studying Rose more than ever, keeping herself wary. Though her body didnt betray it, she was a tad nervous being so near a vampire. Anyone who wasnt a fool would be.

Rose tilted her head to the side, ready to interject her half of the conversation, though the girl rushed on before she could. Should I be afraid of you? Her eyes asked. Are you afraid to touch me? I wouldn't choose the word 'afraid'. What do you think of your name? I'm fond of it. And finally...
"Would that affect what you think of me?" She asked lightly, her eyebrows arched slightly. "If I have been alive for 17 years, would you be less impressed then if I had been alive for 170? I assure you, I am equally capable of getting my meals either way." Her smirk held two fangs, two weapons, two utensils. Her stomach tugged at her sleeve again, but Rose hushed it, doing a good job of masking nausea.
"I should be twenty-two years old. However, I'm only sixteen." She tilted her head to the other side. "The only trouble is being sired under the drinking age." Her smirk widened.
