(OOC) This is an OOC thread on helping new students learn to RP. Miss Kiki was too lazy to post this thread, so I guess I had to take 3 minutes to do this myself. Anyhoo, let's brainstorm here, or something. My theory is that most newbies that don't develop their style as quickly as other students are simply daunted by posts from others. That or some people are just lazy. Either way its just a matter of helping them find their creative niche`.

Well I would just like to state that I'm glad I wasnt the first on e here or I'd do it all wrong. Anywho, down to business. Most of the newbies did one of those chat room RP's or on an e-mail based one. I myself was referenced to a certain forum on a site I was on about a year and a half ago. Basically, it was a boot camp for bad Rper's and as you can see I came out fine. *Smiles* but before my head gets any bigger I must say we could use the site as a last resort for people who use stuff like: r u thre itsme______ Those who don't use basic spelling, punctuation, grammar or even spacing should go to this site. well, just an idea I completely understand if somebody says we shouldnt use it

Hm. I'm not sure I agree with the idea of sticking certain people on a different site because of their abilities. I don't think it's fair, and we want people to learn from those with more experience, not from those on the same level as them.
However, that's just my opinion.
For people who are just learning, well, practice makes perfect. Walk them through a thread, give them any pointers on grammar/punctuation/spelling, phrasing, details they could add to their posts, so on so forth. For people who are just lazy...? I don't see there's a whole lot to be done about them.

I agree, laziness is a habit that's very difficult to crack. Lord knows, its a habit that still plagues my style at times. But even lazy people develop at their own pace, even if its a little slower than everyone else. Its still not an impossible habit to break, though.
Kalyn's right, importing newbies to other sites like slaves wouldn't make them want to come here. They'd feel like they are wasting their time trying to please a bunch of eliteists. I'm sure that's how I would feel about it, even if someone nicely requested it.

Heh.
Well, I agree. But you know what? I sent out a mass IM to all the newbies that I picked up for role-playng that had the potential to be improved and not one single person has read it.
But yeah. Start small. Punctuation and grammar first off, then detail and such later.

Wablah!!! I'm heeeeeeeeere!
Yes, yes, laziness has overcome me as well, well... not really laziness, just really no time whatsoever. ^^' Anyway: I believe that a little coaching as they post will really help. When we see some errors in their posts, we could either post ourselves with tips or IM them so they could fix them. And as they develop themselves grammatically, their storylines and character development will improve as well.
... hmm, yeah, so I didn't really add anything, just restated what you all said. Heh, erm... yeah... I'm a freak.

-skids into topic-
I'm here!!!!
Well, newbie lazyness... no there ish no way in the entire of the world to fix that BUT, as you've all already said, small stuff is fixable!
SO what I think would be a good idea *shout at me if people think otherwise* is maybe some of us should try and join in on some of the newbies threads a little more, because I've noticed how newbies tend to hang around the Entrance Hall waiting for new newbies to RP with, so maybe say... try and join in on at least one Entrance Hall topic a week? Whether it be a good RPer or a bad one? It might help?
maybe...

I like that thought Hayzie girl. I remember that we used to have a little competition between Brae and Kelly about who could greet the most people in the Entrance Hall! We all used to haunt the EH, hmm... lovely thought you smart girl you, I like that... *taps chin*

Hey, sounds like a plan. I can't guarantee I'll be online all the time to have fun with newbies, as my real life is rudely barging in on my net time. *Resolves to strap real life to a pole and blow it up regardless of inane consequences*

-does a little spin and a 'tada' pose-
Yeah, there used to be little competitions between people to see who could get the newbies first XD
poor poor them -shakes head-
But see, if we get to the problem right at the very start, and begin to interact with the people others complain about, then we won't be in this state, where we're having to discuss what to do.

haha, yeah, the good old times! -nostalgic grin-
Meh, anyway, I think that's a good idea. Except that I won't be able to do much, as Kelly is still posessed, and I have no idea when the plot's ending. :/
