A warm breeze swept through the small wizarding village as a lone boy walked to the tavern. Ever so slow were each of his movements. A step took a lifetime and a breath took an eternity. The wind had once again thrown Rayne's bangs into his eyes to obscure his vision. He brushed his hair back once more to see the rising sun. Slowly a breath left through Rayne's nostrils as another replaced it moments later. The boy's hand dropped back into the pocket of his jeans. He wrapped his fingers around a cold lump in his pocket. The lump had died a few days previous to when his enthusiasm and excitement to be somewhere new did. The music player had always gotten him in better spirits but the day it no longer worked he became frustrated with his new world.
Once a girl had told him that an enchanter could bring his music back to life. Not once in all the days in searching for this enchanter did Rayne ever come close to finding it. Instead of continuing the search, he had decided to take up a corner in the tavern or in the common room. He had never acclimated fully to his surroundings. His arrival mid-year had left him to be mostly an outsider. A ghost and the girl who had told him about the mythical enchanter were the only ones that Rayne had ever really talked to. But besides talking with them on the first day he arrived a conversation of multiple words was infrequent.
Rays of light would frequently blind the boy as he walked to the Three Broomsticks. He would guess that it was getting close to eight o'clock in the morning. Slow steps eventually carried Rayne to the doors of the Three Broomsticks tavern. His blue eyes locked on the door handle as his left hand reached for it. Ever so slowly did his hand appear to move. After an eternity the door handle was locked in Rayne's grasp and soon to be pulled toward the boy. A jingling bell sounded as the door was opened. He walked into the tavern to see that only a few patrons had arrived already. The bartender and one server had busied themselves with cleaning mugs and sweeping the floor in the unoccupied sections.
Rayne walked over to an empty table in the corner. Scratches and stains covered the table top. At least this would give him something to occupy himself with for a while. He had taken a few too many hits of boredom. To be more specific, he was currently overdosing on it.

After only just realising that she was not exactly allowed in the all-wizard town since she was only a first year (though fifteen), the brunette girl shrugged. No teacher had told her off so far, what made them think they would in the end? Today she had left Davie in the Owlery; a cockatiel in with a whole lot of owls. Probably not the best idea.
Shoving the door open of the Three Broomsticks, the girl gave a warm smile inwardly with the atmosphere. All was well. Wandering around the room, she discovered a boy looking rather solumn in the corner on a lonesome table.
Bess bounced over to him with a bright smile and beamed "Hi there! Why so glum? Can I sit with you?" At least she hadn't intruded too much, she thought to herself, whilst brushing her hands down the front of her Slytherin robes.

Rayne stared intently at the edge of the table. His eyes and the dirty surface were only inches apart. He studied the grain of the wood very carefully as his forehead was coming ever nearer to it. The tinkling of a bell brought Rayne out of his trance. He had stopped caring that people had come and gone long ago, mainly because he never really interacted with them. His blue eyes stopped on a girl who had more enthusiasm and energy than a four year old child who had been on a caffeine and sugar binge.
Rayne's eyes told him that the hyper girl was coming over to him. He blinked slowly then blinked again. He saw how she was walking around the room as though looking for something or just walking aimlessly. Rayne guessed that the girl would ask him the same question that he had been asked so many times. He pointed his right arm to a short corridor. Hanging from the ceiling a few feet down the hallway was a sign that clearly stated "Lavatories".
His arm dropped back down to his side as the girl continued to walk closer to him. Rayne took in a deep breath through his nose then let it out from his mouth. Slowly he lifted himself up a bit then he sat up in the chair. When the girl began to speak Rayne's left hand, which was sittig upon the table top, began to silently count the number of words that Bess had spoken. The fingers on his left hand paused at four then finished counting the words. Four was usually the amount of words that people would use in their question that his right arm would always answer.
Rayne sighed when Bess had stopped talking. "Hello." He replied after a bit of contemplation. "Where is there? I am glum, as you call it, because 'bored to death' is only a figure of speach. I'm not the best person to answer that question. I wouldn't know whether or not you are physically able to sit with me. The question that would better suit this scenario is 'May I sit with you?'. Yes you may. I'm not going to stop you from sitting somewhere in the near viscinity of myself. Any more questions?" The tone of his reply could tell a deaf person that Rayne was having an extreme lack of excitement and enjoyment.

"Jeeze, someone woke up on the wrong side of the cactus..." retorted Bess automatically. She snorted. He really didn't seem to be in the sort of mood to be friendly. Instead of being a harsh b**** with her dramatic words that were lining up one after another in her head, the girl smiled again and pulled out the chair opposite the boy.
"So this is what you're like when you're bored? Sheesh! Anywho, do you want some company, or do you want me to piss off?" she asked quickly, crossing her fingers over eachother.

Rayne looked the girl over again. He took in a deep breath then after five seconds he let it out. "For your information, I do not sleep with, on, and or near cacti. I sleep in a bed which I would assume you do too. Although I may suspect that a stone pillow could explain your excessive hard-headed qualities." Rayne's eyes closed as he began to simply focus on his breathing while popping his knuckles. His eyes opened once again. Previous encounters similar to the one that was taking place had been winding through Rayne's sub-conscience. Four of them had ended in the other person leaving in an angry manner. Six of them had resorted to hitting him. One person had even resorted to cursing him so that he was deaf for two hours. He had to admit, the silence from the curse was rather pleasant.
He sat mostly still and just watched the ever increasingly flustered girl opposite him. "No, girl, this is not how I am when I'm bored. You observed me when I was bored. Oh, forgive me, I forgot. Your minuscule mind has probably already lost that bit of information that occurred not even two minutes ago. I am currently slightly perturbed because someone with poor grammar is refusing to better themselves by thinking before they speak. Could you define and or rephrase one or more things for me? What do you mean by 'piss off'? That euphemism among many others makes no sense at all."
OOC: Could you try to make your posts maybe ten lines or more?

Bess chuckled to herself as she realised that he mustn't get out much. To spend that much time analysing and critisising someone's grammar....she sighed and smiled. "I do apologise for interrupting you, you must have been thinking ever so deeply....sitting here, with all your friends, in a dark, smokey tavern. How dare I want to make friends, be extroverted, and attempt to socialise in a positive way - rather then be rude, negative and creepy!!" Bess rolled her eyes and crossed her arms accross her chest. "Perhaps your life wouldn't be so full of boredom if you weren't such a pretentious b******!! Have a pleasant day, sitting here by yourself....I think I'll go and socialise!!" With that, Bess turned on her heels, not caring to hear her accquantances reply. OOC: was this enough lines for you ? ? ? ?

Rayne kept his face as stoic as ever. Inwardly he was smiling. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small leather bound book. It wasn't much larger than his palm and not much thicker than a half inch. He pulled a small fountain pen out from the binding of the miniature tome. In a smooth motion he opened the book and flipped to a half filled page. Rayne put the pen tip to the paper but stopped and left a small black dot. He looked up at the girl. "Girl, what is your name?"
As he waited for the girl to reply he raised his left had up to catch the bartender's eye. "Barkeep, would you kindly bring me a glass of water?" Rayne looked at Bess as she began to yell at him. Most of what she said he simply ignored. He flipped through to the back of the book and wrote down a few things while making checks or X's in various places. He smiled a bit as he reread a few of his notes. A small clack sounded as a blue clay coaster was placed upon the table along with a large glass of water. One of the servers had brought him his order. "Thank you." Rayne pulled a few coins out of his pocket and handed them to the server.
He sipped from the glass then looked back to Bess. "Before you leave could you give me your name?" He was going to acquire her name one way or the other but he decided that it would be more polite to get it from her than to get it from some other house-mate.

Pausing in mid-step, the words of the boy caught her ear. What the hell was going on? First he was one of the most pompouse pricks on earth, then he wanted to know her name. It all added up to make sense if he was just that little bit crazy. Turning back around to face him, she could have smirked. A typical nerd with his notepad out. "Now, why the hell would I want to give you my name?" she figured there was no need for her to spell out why she didn't want to. If he was smart enough, he would have worked it out for himself.

Rayne laughed to himself inwardly. He took another sip of his water. He looked from the girl to his book and then to his pen. He opened his book to a page near the middle. "It is more polite to acquire a person's name from said person rather than acquiring that name from an anonymous person who resides in the same lodging quarters. Though I am not currently wearing my house robes, we are of the same house. Being in the same house would make it relatively easy to learn your name from at least one person who is your friend." Rayne twirled the fountain pen between his fingers while he thumbed through a few of the more recent entries in the minuscule book.
He patiently waited for her to respond. He took another drink of water. As he waited he reread his latest entry. To him it was quite obvious that two people had made a very large mistake. The pair had realized the mistake, but while trying to fix that mistake they only made things worse for themselves.

Bess shrugged. She knew that Rayne would find out her name one way or another. She felt awkward that she had yelled at him, but she thought about how rude he had been to her.... Walking slowly back over to the table, Bess looked directly into Rayne's eyes. "My name," she said, crossing her arms in front of her chest, "is Elizabeth White." With that, she gave a mysterious look, and walked away.
