Cain entered the Hog's Head, feeling something almost like fear in his unbeating heart. His heavy black eyes looked around the grubby-looking place, and he made a decision not to order anything from the menacing-looking bartender, but prefer to lurk in the doorway, waiting for Ace to appear.
Tonight Cain was going to be shown the ways of the Vampire by Acerbus Aecus himself - he was, in a way, excited to see the master perform, and in another way, fearing that he might not be all he had heard. Because he was here for a purpose, and he wanted to fulfill it before Ace ever knew why Cain was really here, or who the Vampire newbie had been sent by. It was important that he keep himself in check, and that Ace suspected nothing.
If all went well, he would be greatly rewarded. With this in mind and smile on his face, Cain waited for the legendary Vampire to make his presence known.

Ace sighed heavily as he put on a fresh, crisp white shirt on. He turned to the mirror to see nothing once again, and frowned, knowing that his clean new shirt would only be bloodstained and probably ripped by the end of the night. His green eyes lowered to the floor and he let out one more sigh - Magic Horizons appeared to be having more of an effect on him lately than he had thought.
Ace walked down the rickety staircase and saw Cain already lurking in the doorway, apparently not wanting to wander any further in. Not that Ace could blame him - the Hog's Head was not a favourite on anybody's choice of bars, even evil creatures of the night like them.
"Good evening," said Ace, walking up to Cain slowly, taking in the boy's almost nervous demeanour. With a suspicious look in his eyes, he sought out Cain's huge black orbs. "Are you ready to go?"

(ooc: you'll have to ask Ace - he's the one in control here)
Cain heard Ace creaking along the corridor upstairs long before he arrived at the foot of the steps - glancing up, he saw that Ace looked slightly apprehensive... but was it of Cain, or of their situation?
"Master Ace," said Cain, inclining his head slightly. It was impossible to tell whether there was a trace of sarcasm behind the words. "I am ready whenever you are."

ooc: Sorry Kai, I need to have this one for a while.
bic: Ace's green eyes glittered at Cain's abrupt reply, alongside the slight hint at sarcasm that was attached to the use of the word 'Master'. Ace was not going to encourage this behaviour, so he made no move to reprimand the name, therefore setting it in stone that he should be called 'Master Ace' now and hereafter.
"Then let's get going," said Ace sharply. Without taking another look at Cain, he pushed open the Hog's Head door and out into the cold, steady wind and rain.
He walked directly along the street, his tousled blonde hair flattened against his rough, determined face. The strange summer freeze had no effect on his cold body, and the rain did not hinder his enhanced vampiric eyesight from seeking out his way around the small, winding grey stone streets of Hogsmeade. As they neared the edge of the town, by a small children's playground, Ace suddenly stopped, his eyes resting on the wet, slowly creaking playground before turning to Cain for the first time since they had left the Hog's Head.
"To know your strengths and weaknesses before you even begin, we must look to what you were before. Your life as a human will affect the rest of your unlife - this is a truth most Vampires tend to deny with all their being, but if you recognise your flaws and advantages before becoming a solitary hunter, you can work with what you have."
Ace leaned in close to Cain, his face set in severe stone. "So what I need to know is... where do you come from? What, in as much or as little detail as you can give me, is your story?"

Cain gritted his fanged teeth almost automatically - what he was not ready for, was to reveal his past. As the rain trickled down his still-smooth complexion, he wondered at how he could no longer feel it as he once could, and how he in fact never would again... Ace was right. In order for change to occur, he needed to let go of a few things. The human Cain would never have revealed his past, or feelings therein - but the Vampire one just might.
"I was miserable, my whole life," said Cain, his voice a dull monotone in keeping with the steady dripping of the rain on the concrete ground. "I never felt like I belonged. I was the child of an illigitimate affair of my mother's, and as such both my parents detested the very sight of me. Do you know what it's like, to be in this world and know you're not wanted, by anyone?" Cain clenched his fists - he was getting far too frustrated, far too early. "Well, things never got better. I never made many friends, and those who tried to get to know me always ended up walking away thinking me creepy and a loser... Anyway, I had heard from a few people that there was a nest of Vampires living in a derelict building in town. After things had got to the point where I just couldn't... where life was too difficult... I made my way there, hoping for a way out. As soon as I got inside, a few of them got hold of me, asked why I was there. I told them I wanted it all to end, and they laughed. A vampiress took me to her, and told me everything would be fine. I should have known she was lying, that look in her eyes... but I let her, and... next thing I knew, I was lying outside in the dark... a Vampire."
Cain sighed heavily. "I had no idea they could do this. I'd never thought about how one became a Vampire... all I wanted was for it all to end. And instead, I get eternity. And I would give in again, stake myself - but I know what awaits the mortality of a Vampire. Eternal torment. It's either live on, and try to make things better for myself, or give in to a certainty that this pain will continue. I don't really have much of a choice, do I."

Ace's green gaze remained intent on Cain's expressionless face while he told his story. In one way, it didn't faze him in the least - from Cain's demeanour, and the way he had reacted to Ace, it should have been rather obvious that this little sob-story should be what fell out of his mouth. But while Ace tried to remain silent, forcing himself into his role as mentor, he simply could not help the smirk that arrogantly pulled at the corners of his mouth, finally resulting in a small chuckle he knew he was going to pay for.
"Sorry..." said Ace, chuckling, though clearly not sorry at all. "But this is a perfect example of what kind of sadism you should be aiming for. Vampires, generally, like to play with their victims. But if some poor soul wanders into their cave willingly, with death their intention, it takes the fun out of the kill. There's nothing in it for them. So whenever this does happen, Vampires find a way of making it more fun - they see someone like you, willing to end his own life, and instead they make that life last forever, in the same cursed state they are betrothed to. I know a lot of Vampires that do this. If the situation were ever to present itself to me, I would probably do it too."
Ace stopped, his expression becoming more thoughtful. Perhaps Cain should have a better gauge of how a Vampire's nature worked. "Vampires are not merciful creatures. It's almost as if the pretense of caring has been removed, and they are reduced to the basic instincts of survival, looking out for number one. They are selfish, and will only ever do something for somebody else if it happens to benefit them in some way. They care for nothing but themselves."
Ace almost spat the last sentence out. All the while he was spouting this information to the presumably impressionable Cain, he was becoming more and more aware of what a hypocrite he was. What kind of a master could he be to this newbie Vamp when he had contradicted almost every rule in the Vampire lore?
"To answer your question - no, you don't have a choice. This is your path now. Now tell me, do you have any actual plans for the future or am I working with a clean slate here?"

Seething hatred boiled in Cain's veins as he watched his 'Master' laugh at him. Funny, was it, that he was doomed to a life of misery? Cain could hardly see how he could ever become accustomed to the life of a Vampire when he detested their kind more than anything, anyone, anywhere. Even as Ace explained how Vampires work, the anger that raged inside of Cain was ceaseless - especially as he knew that Ace was lying.
"I have no plans," said Cain tonelessly, his rage unnoticeable beneath his defeated veneer. "What plans could I have, when all I ever wanted was to die..."
Cain's heavy black eyes shifted from Ace, trying to calm himself. They hadn't been kidding when they'd said Acerbus was a troublesome Vampire - it was almost as if he actually believed he was the definition of a good, by-the-book Vamp, when Cain knew it to be a lie. Oh, yes - he knew everything.

There was a steady rage in Cain that made Ace wary of the kid, newbie though he was. He remembered that rage from his own turning, and though his reasons were very different, he understood. He would have to work to keep Cain from transferring the blame to him, and knowing this, he forced a grim smile.
"Very good then," he said quietly. Shaking some of the droplets of rain from his head, he glanced into the distance. "Seeing as you have no plans, I shall guide and advise you as I see fit. For the moment, we need to work on channelling that anger of yours into something far more productive." He knew Cain was not ready to take the life of a human just yet, and changed his tack accordingly. Swinging his eyes about the rainy street, he saw a woman and her child of about eight coming down the street, laughing and talking. He smiled.
"There. Do you see them?" Without pausing for Cain to affirm, he continued speaking. "Look at them. When you look at them, your rage will build. They are alive, and happy, whereas you are dead, and miserable. This is an expected reaction. You must use your new Vampiric senses to force that reaction into something far more deadly. You are done looking. Now sense them... take a deep breath, and see what you can sense. Can you smell them? Can you hear them? Can you almost touch them, even though you are standing here with me? Pull them closer with your mind, make them yours."
Ace finally took his eyes off the pair, who had stopped to sort out their umbrella, which had turned inside out; a fact that had produced a great deal of laughter from the exciteable child. He looked at Cain, hoping that his instruction would be enough to begin his quest for the bloodlust of a healthy young Vampire.

It was easy to suppress the rage that filled him up - he had been doing it all his life.
He turned his mind from the fact that Ace was a traitor to his own kind, and that he, Cain, was a traitor against what he believed in to be doing this, and focused his gaze on the couple of humans that walked down the rainy street. Using the senses Ace had said, Cain reached out to the couple. Yes - he could smell them. They smelt of warmth... of attraction... of food.
Cain was surprised at the longing that swept over him. His fanged teeth gritted together, he was unable to control the bloodlust that screamed through his body. He tried to fight it, but it was too strong. Even his rage could not save him now.
"I..." He couldn't even finish his sentence.

Ace smirked to himself - this had been much easier than he had expected. Then again, if Cain had been telling the truth, the new Vampire had been two weeks without once tasting the fresh blood of a human - a substantial feat for any Vampire.
"Very good," he encouraged, his voice breathy and deep. His green eyes were still on the mother and son as they walked right past the two rain-soaked Vampires - the mother raised her eyes and smiled timidly at the pair of them, hurrying past. Ace had a sneaking suspicion that she had had a sneaking suspicion. Never mind.
"They are not our kill for tonight," said Ace instructively, pushing himself off of where he was leaning against the brick wall. He eyed Cain critically. "For your first kill, I suggest somewhere a little quieter... and further from home. Ever been to Diagon Alley?"

Cain's black eyes swung to Ace, wary and unsure after being cut off in the middle of a passion for blood that had taken him by complete surprise.
"No. I haven't."
His reply was short, simple. This is the way he wanted it. The way he had to be. He needed Ace to be the one who opened up, the one who instructed and divulged information. The more silent he became, the more the blonde Vampire had room to give instruction. He gave Ace another sidelong glance before following him down the street, presumably to Diagon Alley.
