Anna hadn't been able to sleep after the night in the Hospital Wing. Everything kept her awake, another attack coming on her or her friends scared her. She couldn't take it. She knew that something else, something terrible having to do with those two disgusting words written in blood was going to happen. Anna didn't think that coming to Magic Horizons was going to be like this.
Why take a thing so beautiful as magic, and turn it evil. Why be stupid and fight wars. She thought to herself. Maybe if she hadn't have gone to the Astronomy Tower that one night, and met her two friends Jordan and Larissa. And maybe if she hadn't gone to their wedding and then been taking to the Hospital Wing. Maybe if that b*tch demoness hadn't come and maimed her. Maybe if Anna hadn't done any of that, she wouldn't be sitting there right then.
Unfortunately, she was. And all of that had happened. And she was sitting there on a gravestone of someone she didn't know, but felt drawn to the graveyard. It seemed as though Anna's liveliness and excitement of being a witch had been drained out of her, with her energy into the demonesses body. She couldn't think straight anymore and didn't know who she could trust. All she knew was that at some point, there was going to be a war. And Anna was going to fight, even if it meant she would die doing so.
She needed to talk to someone, and needed to listen to the sound of a friendly voice. Someone she knew she could trust, and talk to for hours on end. One girl that she knew positively would be with her until the end. So, she'd sent her friend an owl, asking her to come down to the graveyard that day. She needed to talk to her dear friend Rezna Lardale. "Oh Rezna, what's happening?" she asked the fog-filled air, even though Rezna hadn't arrived yet.
Anna looked around the cold graveyard. She was the only sign of life in her vision. She breathed out and her hot breath showed up in the cold air. Why can't I keep my mind off of this... Anna kept asking herself. She needed to have something else to concentrate on, but right now... she didn't think that was possible.

The poor bird fluttered through the Hospital Wing's open window and landed with a hard flop onto Rezna's bed. It was late and the Hufflepuff was having difficulty focusing on anything sleep or rest related. The first few nights it had been a simple sleeping drought that Shae had given her to help her sleep. But for the day's after, Rezna was plagued by haunting dreams, ones that gave her little answers.
Now the quiet of her white-walled prison was shattered by a loud screech. The bird was familiar to Rezna, and she tried to guess at who his owner was while pulling the letter off the owl's offered leg as gently as she could. Soaking in the first few words written on the parchment, the 'Puff suddenly knew exactly who it was from and why.
"Oh, Anna," she breathed out as she pulled her covers away and got on her feet. Picking up the owl, she headed for the window.
"Thanks for the letter. I have no treat for you, unless you like tonic," at that she smiled, for she had to be desperate to joke with a bird. "I'll get one for you as soon as I can." With that she let the bird take flight and closed the window behind him.
Hurrying across the room for her things, Rezna was surprised at how quickly her strength had returned to her making her feel physically cured. And perhaps that was the only way in which she was better. Thoughts kept troubling and haunting her mind for thinking had become a favorite pastime for Miss Lardale. Perhaps with this graveyard meeting, both girls could find some answers to their questions and solve the deadly puzzle they had found themselves in.
Her cloak fluttering behind her, Rezna slipped out of the wing unnoticed and ran down the stairs and straight out through the entrance hall into the grounds. From there she had a little difficulty remembering where the graveyard was, considering she had never been there, but she found it without much lost time.
A few leaves crunched under her weight as she made her way around the numerous gravestones and the fog. Her ears ringing with the silence, she tried to hear for any sign of another person in the twilight.
"Oh Rezna, what's happening?"
Turning in the direction of the voice, the other replied in her usual gentle manner, "I don't know, but it's something we are now both a part of."

Just after Anna had sent her letter to Rezna, she had heard what happened to her dear friend during Divinations. She couldn't stand the thought, and was worried about Rezna coming all the way down to the Graveyard from the Hospital Wing. She sighed letting out feelings of sorrow and fright. Although, she had always wanted more excitement at Magic Horizons when she arrived, she never meant like this type of excitement. No, not the death or injury type of excitement, but the happy, fun type of excitement, which Anna didn't have much of since she'd arrived.
Leaves crunched and blew around her in the wind. Crunching leaves? she thought, That must mean... Anna smiled only slightly. A second later she heard the sound of the beautiful voice speaking to Anna. The one voice she longed for most, as though whispering through the wind. I don't know, but it's something we are now both a part of. Rezna. She turned on her heel and cruchned through the leaves noisily, but quickly. Anna wrapped her frail arms around Rezna's body.
"Oh Rezna!" she cried as her eyes welled up with tears, "I was so scared when I heard," she said. A single tear dripped down Anna's red cheek slowly. "How did you not get hurt coming down? You must be so weak from the fall," Anna continued. She pulled away slightly and looked at her blonde haired friend. "Come sit down, we really need to talk." Anna told her friend, although she was quite positive she already knew.

First the warm and caring voice, and then her gentle arms wrapped themselves around Rezna's body. Smiling and blinking back tears for the warm welcome, the blond almost forgot to return her best friend's hug. Understanding just how much she could have lost, Rezna found herself embracing her life all the more tightly.
But, suppressing her emotion, she let Anna steer her to a neighboring gravestone that only barely showed through the mist. Sitting down and leaned against the clammy surface of the slab of stone, the 'Puff's green eyes focused intently on her friend.
"I'm fine now, really. It was a lucky fall. Actually, I'm more worried about what happened to you. And now that I see you, I can tell that not everything is all right. You look frail, worn out, almost like a shadow of yourself."
She remembered the water balloon fight they had engaged in, and their shopping spree in Hogsmeade a good few months ago. The Anna from back than was not the same one that now sat before her. Fearing for her friend, Rez's pale face came to sport even more lines of worry.
"I'm sorry I wasn't there to help you, Anna. It's been a while, I know, and I feel terrible for not finding you so that we could talk. Yet, I take it that's why we're here today, the attacks."

((ooc: sorry it took so long! i feel terrible...))
Anna leaned back against the gravestone and looked into Rezna's bright emrald eyes as her friend spoke. I'm fine now, really. It was a lucky fall. Actually, I'm more worried about what happened to you. And now that I see you, I can tell that not everything is all right. You look frail, worn out, almost like a shadow of yourself. Anna could have hugged her friend and never let go and she'd be happy. Then, before she could answer about why she looked so pale and ill, her friend spoke again, but this time she apologized about not being there for her. "No Rezna, you shouldn't be apologizing, I should. I wasn't in the classroom that day and I should have been. I should have stopped him from you being dropped... I should have..." Anna trailed off, her lower lip trembling.
She smiled weakly and changed the subject quickly. "The only reason why I look terrible is because this stupid dream keeps haunting me, and I don't want to witness it any more," she confessed. Anna breathed in and out slowly, her breath showing in the crisp autumn air. "Rezna, I know I don't want this to be a part of my life, but we've both already been sucked in, and now we can't help it being in our lives," she told her. "But, I want to make sure that we are in it together until the end. Will you promise me that much?" she requested as her green eyes shone.
"Rezna, if this ends up with a war between 'Angelus Morti' and the good people, I'm going to fight. And not only that, I'm going to fight until the end of either the war... or the end of me," she informed her friend with tears threatening to fall down her almost dried face. Finally, a stray tear found its way out of her wet green eyes and spilled down her cheek. She lifted her hand and wiped it away from her rosy cheeks and just stared into Rezna's eyes. Anna waited for a response, anything, a word, gesture, sound... anything that reassured Anna that she was not alone.

She listened to the other's soft voice. The only sound that night in the graveyard. All of Rezna's senses were focused on the girl sitting before her, the girl who had been one of the first she met at the school, the girl who had turned to be her best friend. It pained her, it hurt her to think that through all that they've been together, they were not there for one another in their times of need. That was something, however, she knew the two of them would change.
Yet before Rezna could promise to that, she was stopped by Anna who told her one of the most terrifying things she had ever thought she would have to hear. The tear that fell from Anna's eye was not the only one. Two large tears tricked down from both large green eyes of the girl who sat opposite her. The girl who's biggest fear was losing a friend.
Letting the tears flow unchecked, Rezna found herself nodding slowly, gently but surely as she came to meet Anna's gaze. And as she did, a grimace, the shadow of her once so common smile, flickered behind her pale lips. Leaning over, Rezna wrapped her arms around her best and truest friend, and hid her pained expression in the other's long dark hair. Squeezing hard, the blond tried to reassure herself that Anna was real and alive before her and that she was not going to leave her in the future.
After a minute, Rezna released Anna and finally found that her voice was strong enough to speak.
"If you plan to fight till the end of this war, then know that I will be by you every step of the way. I promise you that from this moment on, I will never leave you to fend for yourself, not if I can help it, and I'll find a way if I can't."
Wiping the tears from her face, Rezna fought to compose herself. "And know this, Anna, we are not alone in this fight. There are many who will stand by us and I'm sure that not even the army of Angelus Mortis could counter our defense. The attack of the school will be strong and heartfelt and... and no one will lose their lives in the process."
That was one thing she knew she could not stand for, the loss of a friend. The pain of that would surely kill Rezna where she stood, drain the life out of her. Looking at Anna, she tried to imagine never seeing her again. The numbing in her chest, and in her body almost sent her falling to the ground. New tears threatened but she would not let them fall.

Anna didn't break eye contact with Rezna the entire minute or so that she spoke. As the last of her words echoed out of her mouth, she could tell that Rezna wasn't too thrilled about what she had just said. She saw two giant tears trickling down Rezna's eyes, and she didn't want them to come. Followed by the first two, were many, and in a second, Anna's eyes were filled again. She was crying for what she had said, what might happen, how she may never see Rezna again after the battle, and most of all... out of pure fear.
Suddenly, Anna's pale fragile body had two friendly arms wrapped around it. She smiled weakly and put her two arms around Rezna's as well. She felt her best friend's grip grow tighter and Anna gave Rez a little squeeze herself before they both pulled back. A string of sentences began to flow out of Rezna's mouth, and Anna almost stopped breathing to listen to her. If you plan to fight till the end of this war, then know that I will be by you every step of the way. I promise you that from this moment on, I will never leave you to fend for yourself, not if I can help it, and I'll find a way if I can't. Anna couldn't have wished for more in a friend, Oh please don't let us lose eachother... she thought with tears stinging her eyes yet again.
She knew she would respond in a moment, but Rezna's sweet tone floated through her ears, and she didn't dare interrupt. And know this, Anna, we are note alone in this fight. There are many who will stand by us and I'm sure that not even the army of Angelus Mortis could counter our defense. The attack of the school will be strong and heartfelt and... and no one will lose their lives in the process. Anna couldn't help but smile at Rezna's words. Oh how she hoped Rezna spoke of the truth, she hoped terribly that no one would die.
Anna could only tell that Rezna didn't want to lose Anna just as much as Anna didn't want to lose Rezna. She couldn't even begin to imagine a life without Rezna, or Rezna's life without her. "No." Anna said abruptly, "I won't leave you."

Rezna nodded her head and wiped the tears from her eyes. She trusted Anna enough to know that she meant every word of her last statement. And with just those few words the cold graveyard grew less foreboding. It seemed that, upon making their pact, the girls created a bond of protection around one another, a bond that not evil could break.
Letting out a shaky breath, Rezna calmed herself somewhat and pushed all thoughts of loss and death from her mind. Reaching for Anna's pale hand, the blond gave it an encouraging squeeze as she spoke with more confidence, "I know you won't leave me. And I promise to do the same. Not leave you, that is."
Rezna's green eyes glittered a little at that statement, but no smile appeared on her features. Looking at Anna, and at the darkness behind her, Rezna noticed how the fog crept up around them like a hunter would on it's prey. It blinded her from anything that was happening behind them, and the silence added to the unnerving, almost frightening allure of the graveyard. Yet upon hearing an owl in the distance it's haunting spell was somewhat broken.
Returning her gaze so it would fall back on Anna, Rezna looked deep into the other's eyes to see what lay beneath their glassy surface.

((ooc: sorry it took so long =( ))
Anna watched as Rezna wiped the tears from her bright green eyes. She knew that she meant everything she said, the only way she knew she couldn't keep her promise was if... No. She wouldn't even think about it, never ever think about it. She couldn't leave Rezna, not after what they'd been through together in the last half a year or so.
I know you won't leave me. And I promise to do the same. Not leave you, that is. Those words meant the world to Anna, and she knew that she wanted to believe them, and she knew that the only way that Rezna would leave her would be the same reason Anna would leave her. But no, she didn't want to think about that here, or now. The fog was surrounding them and Anna felt like there was no place now that could be safe, no place except someone's mind. But then again, that couldn't always be safe in a wizarding world. The sound of an owl made Anna jump a bit, but she calmed right after.
Anna's green eyes locked with Rezna's emrald eyes and she could feel a slight smile come across her pink lips. Why am I smiling? she thought, for she knew right now was not a smiling matter. "Rezna. I am ready. Even if that damn lycan came right now... I wouldn't let him get me. I won't. I'll fight, and I know I've said this, but I promise, I'll fight until the end. I'll fight for Claire, for Rose, for the school, and mostly.. Rezna, I'll fight for you." Now she knew why she had smiled. Anna had grown so strong, and so much more courageous since she came to Magic Horizons, and now, she had a chance to prove it to herself. Prove to herself that she's not a weak innocent teenager anymore. Oh no, this time, Anna wouldn't run away.

What Anna said touched Rezna's heart more deeply then perhaps the other even intended. There was strength, hope, courage, honesty, and pure will in the Gryffindore's voice. There was little room for doubt, for second guesses, or for the tiniest bit of fear. And that was perhaps what sent shivers down Rezna's spine. She knew she could place her life in her best friend's hands and not worry about a thing. Yet it was not her own life she grew so worried about. It was Anna's.
As her green eyes fell on the shadowed face of Anna, the only thing Rezna kept hearing was, 'Rezna, I'll fight for you' echoing threw her head. Tears welled in her eyes once more but she refused to let them spill out of her eyes, refused to let thoughts of what consequences those words would bring become fully formed like her tears.
Taking Anna's cold hand, Rezna tried to speak but found her voice was too chocked up to utter a more or less comprehensible syllable. After almost a full minute, she whispered out, her voice far from steady, "Anna, I know you'll fight, and trust me, I'll fight to. But I fear as to what that fight will bring us. I've looked death in the eye, and I do not want the same to happen to you. I've lived enough, seen enough, and-"
I do not want you to waist your life aimlessly for mine, Rezna added in her mind. She knew that it was pointless to say it, after they both promised to fight to the end for one another. But it was only then, minutes after those words were spoken, that Rezna began to think ahead into reality. It was that thought and her own values and thoughts that chilled her body more than the cold in the night. Rezna found her own life to be much less important than that of Anna's. And that thought, the imagined image of Anna fighting for her, and possibly losing, clenched the other's heart enough for her to gasp out for breath.

((ooc: sorry=( ))
As Anna's last few words came tumbling out of her mouth, she couldn't believe they came from her usually not brave self. Did I really just have enough courage to say that? she thought, but not showing any doubt on her facial expression. "And I'm sorry if I do not succeed in putting my life in front of yours." The black-haired Gryffindor's eyes welled up with tears and she noticed the same happened to the Hufflepuff's. Anna felt Rezna's hand fill her cold one and a few moments came and went with silence enveloping the two young girls.
Soon, Rezna spoke and the words bounced around Anna's head even after her friend had finished speaking. Anna, I know you'll fight, and trust me, I'll fight too. But I fear as to what that fight will bring us. I've looked death in the eye, and I do not want the same to happen to you. I've lived enough, seen enough, and- She was afraid of what Rezna was about to say, but left it as she comprehended her friends other words. "Rez," she started out simply, "I don't know what I'd do without you," Anna managed to choke out. "And I've felt as though I've looked death in the eye. And don't doubt for a moment that I'm afraid of what the fight may end up as. Don't let me lose you," she added as a tear dripped down her cheek.
Anna knew that Rezna couldn't promise her that.. but she wanted to know that they could always have eachother. She scratched the side of her neck softly and felt the chain that hung loosely around her neck. On the chain lay a small chinese symbol that stood for courage. She pulled her hand slowly away from Rezna's and unclasped her necklace. Anna held out the necklace to Rezna. "I want you to have this. So, if something happens to me, you'll always have a piece of me with you," she told Rezna and her very own words trigged her tears to fall constantly. She had recieved this necklace from her mother, but she decided not to mention this to Rezna, just in case she refused to take it.

'Don't let me lose you.'
Anna, what if I can't? Rezna thought, but voiced nothing in response. She figured that it was best to leave such things unspoken, for she had no right to place her own fear into her friend's already jumbled mind.
As such thoughts bounced around in the 'Puff's own mind, she hardly noticed Anna's movement till her words came. Looking up, the blond's green eyes fell on the necklace her friend offered her. A small smile touched Rezna's pale lips for a moment before she spoke.
"Anna, I'll always have a piece of you with me, no matter what happens. You're my best friend, and our friendship makes each of us a part of the other's life. I need not a necklace to be reminded of that," as she spoke, she noted the tears that spilled out of Anna's large eyes. "It clearly has sentimental value to you, and I hope that whatever this means to you, it will let you hold on to life all the more strongly. Because if you keep thinking along the lines of something horrible happening to you, you won't be in your best state to prevent it."
Reaching over, Rezna gently bundled up the chain in her hand and opened Anna's with the other. With small force, she was able to place the necklace back in it's owner's hand and close the fist shut. "Keep it in memory of life instead, Anna," Rezna whispered. "Please."
She was deeply touched by the other's offering, but she could not let her friend part with something that lay so close to her heart, for as much could be seen in the Gryffindor's eyes. Letting out a deep breath, one that billowed out before both girls in the dark, Rezna wondered how much more trying that night could be. Emotionally, she was going through a harder battle then her physical ones could ever be. How could life, that was ever so wonderful, be turned into a trial? And why should they ever have to fight for the life that was rightfully theirs?
"In the least," she spoke out loud once more although her gaze was on something invisible, "at least keep that necklace in memory of what life used to be. For I find myself wishing for the past more and more, and such things with memories are the only time machine I've come up with."
