The bright full moon in the sky lit up the Graveyard, giving it an eerie glow and creating shadows that were never present during the day. There was a figure there who hadn't been seen anywhere around the school or the grounds before.
This girl had golden blonde hair which had been grown to half way down her back and soft brown eyes which tonight had the huge orb in the sky reflected in them, causing them to glitter slightly.
Charlie was late enough already. After all, she had missed the train to the school and had to get here by muggle car instead. So surely being a bit later couldn't hurt. Besides, she needed time to think...
Looking around, Charlie saw all of the gravestones and only thought for the first time how bad an idea it was to come here. After all, it was a full moon and she had heard stories about full moons and spirits. Yet this didn't make her leave. She simply sat on one of the wooden benches and looked, and thought.

Soft, padded footsteps approached the graveyard, dead leaves crunching softly underfoot. Even that sound was barely noticeable against the still of the moonlit evening, and soon the noise stopped altogether.
Leitana paused in her approach to the graveyard. With the aid of the silver luminescene from the full moon, her vampiric eyesight could pick out a solitary figure seated among the gravestones. The moonlight stole away all the colour of the place, washing the rolling landscape in shades of black, silver and grey. Lei smiled to herself, a toothy, malicious grin that would have been terrifying had anyone been around to see it. Emerald eyes glittered.
Well, well. It appeared like there might be some fun to be had this night, after all.
Silent as the pale death she embodied, Leitana approached the figure, a golden-haired girl seated on one of the many benches, her thoughts obviously anywhere but here. Lei didn't speak or make a sound until she was practically breathing down the girl's neck. Then her icy cold breath wrapped around the exposed flesh of the girl's neck in a cool whisper.
"Good evening, child... Rather late to be out, now isn't it?"

A coolness had definitely settled over the graveyard. Charlie didn’t realise this for a while and she quickly wrapped her arms around herself in an attempt to warm up. But it only got worse. An icy chill surrounded her neck like a choker, causing goose pimples to make an appearance. Looking behind her as she heard the whisper accompanying the cool air.
Standing behind her stood a very pale girl with red hair and green eyes. In fact, the girl was so pale she looked ill. “Oh. Yes, I guess it is,” Charlie answered the question, her southern England accent coming through strongly. “I just got a little distracted on my way to the school,” the brown eyed girl explained with a smile. “What about you? Do you go there?” she asked, innocence surrounding her words.

Lei raised one pencil thin eyebrow at the girl, then her bloodless lips twitched upwards in a sardonic smile as she realized that the girl had absolutely no idea what she was. Well, this could be amusing indeed. She had to wonder just how long it would take the girl to figure out the true nature of the auburn-haired woman who stood before her.
"No, I don't go to the school, I've been out of school for...quite some time." Centuries, in fact, but she didn't say so aloud. She showed the girl a wry smile, taking care to keep her knife-tipped incisors well hidden. It wouldn't do to be too obvious right away; that would take the fun right out of it. "Myself and my fellows dwell not to far from here, though...
"How interesting," she continued, regarding the girl with a penetrating glance, then settled herself on the back of the bench. The perch looked a tad precarious, but in truth Leitana was perfectly balanced. "So is it normal proceedure now to arrive at a new school in the dead of night?"

Charlie nodded at what the girl had said. Fair enough she had been out of school for some time, but what was she doing in the grounds then? Surely only students were allowed on the grounds. Studying the girl closer, the blonde girl realised she only looked about sixteen. But looks could be deceiving. It was only seconds before she had to look away. That gaze was scary…
“Do you live in the little village near here?” Charlie asked, leaning back on the bench, she looked up to the stars before answering her final question.
“No, I don’t think it is. But I missed the train here so I’m a bit late.”

"I see," Lei murmured in response, studying the girl with a glimmer of malicious amusement in her eyes. She tamped down on it, though, instead offering the girl an igratiating smile. In the silvery moonlight, her face could have been carved of marble, pale and just as cold as that unwarmed, unforgiving stone.
She shook her head. "No, not a village. Much smaller than that. But it's a beautiful place, really, once you get past the rather...forbidding exterior." Well, it was true. Michaela saw to it that the Lair was quite well furnished, probably a good deal more plush than anything the students had up at the school.
She paused, a considering tilt to her head. Her pale face was expressionless as she wondered with no small amount of amusement just how far she could take this. "It's not far from here, in fact," she added slowly, watching the girl through slitted lids, wondering what the girl's reaction would be. She seemed genuinely curious about Lei's home, and she obviously had no idea that she was talking with a vampiress.
Ah, the young and the naive. They make life so much more interesting...

Charlie’s own eyes were curious. On the way to the school, she had only seen a small village. Very quaint. Yet here was this girl saying that she lived somewhere close by, yet smaller. Her emerald eyes seemed to glitter as she spoke.
The way the girl spoke about her home made it appear to be cold on the outside, just like the chill that had swept in with her had been. Looking at her face, it seemed unnaturally pale and that icy breeze was still there. It was definitely warmer than this before.
As a little girl, she had heard the story of Dracula. What school child hadn’t? It went around playgrounds almost daily. The way in which the girl had approached, the chill that had come with her, the way she looked, as pale as white snow…<br> Shuffling a little further away from the girl, Charlie didn’t take her eyes off her. Almost expecting her to do something.
“Oh,” was the only word she could say, before mentioning, “You don’t seem like a normal human,” probably sounding stupid. If the girl was human, she’d probably be offended. But hey, she didn’t need to be popular here.

A bubble of laughter welled up in her middle, but she held it carefully under control. So, the girl was finally cluing in, was she? But the game was by no means over yet.
"Normal," she repeated wryly. She stood and stretched in a languid movement, catlike in its grace. "'Normal' is a relative concept, now isn't it?" Her tone made it clear that her somewhat cryptic question was a rhetorical one. "Normal is something that's defined by everything else around it. But that everything else isn't constant; it's always different, ever changing."
She paused, turned back to look at the girl. Her musical voice held an edge of contained laughter, and her pallid lips curved upwards in an amused smirk. "So how can you say that one person is any more or less normal than the next?"
Of course, if the girl was at all astute, she'd notice that Lei had never really answered her question...

A pink flush appeared on Charlie’s face. She should have known better than to say that. What the red haired girl had said to her had confused her, sounded like it was something out of a text book rather than off the top of her head.
That smirk on her face said something, she knew it did. Clearing her throat almost silently, and most definitely nervously, she thought she’d better get going and head off to the school.
“Well, I’d better get going,” she almost whispered, as if trying to not disturb the apparent peace of the night. “It was nice meeting you…” she carried on, standing up and picking up her suitcase.

Leitana chuckled inwardly, a tad surprised but not displeased with the effects her words had had on the girl. She smoothed the amusement from her finely chiseled features, however, and instead regarded the girl with a look of faint surprise, even mild disappointment. Oh yes, Lei was quite the actor when she set her mind to it.
"What, leaving so soon?" she inquired passively, making no move either towards or away from the girl. "Why the abrupt departure? It's such a gorgeous night, after all...and if you're this late in getting to the school, a few minutes more couldn't do any harm, could they? You may as well enjoy the evening, don't you think?"
With this innocent query, the vampiress fell silent again regarded the girl quietly as she waited for her response.

Turning to face the girl again, Charlie noticed the hint of disappointment on her face. “Maybe a few more minutes wouldn’t hurt,” she sighed, resuming her seat on the edge of the bench furthest from the red haired pale girl at the other end. Looking up into the stars, Charlie realised for the first time just how spectacular the sky looked. The sky providing spots of light on a pitch black stretch of darkness.
Yet, there was something that told the young girl to be careful what she said from now on. It was plain to see that she had offended the other girl somehow with what she said before, and Charlie definitely didn’t want to do that again. The curiosity that glistened behind the brown eyes was still there if not stronger than before she had said she was going to depart.

The vampiress paused, carefully keeping any hints of laughter from her porcelain-pale face, wondering where exactly she could take this from here. Incredibly enough, the girl still had apparently no idea what Leitana was. It would be most interesting to see her reaction once she finally figured it out. Or perhaps...
"Seems a shame to spend your first night in a graveyard, though," the vampiress mused, adopting a pensive expression. "Perhaps you'd like to get out and explore a bit? The lake is quite nice at night," she allowed her smirk to return, a slight curving of pallid lips, "and in fact, I... live... not far from there." Leitana placed a deliberate hesitation before the word 'live,' for vampires were not, of course, truly alive.
Tilting her head, the vampiress watched the girl through slitted emerald eyes. Whatever the girl decided, her reaction was sure to be amusing. And maybe, if her curiousity had been whetted enough, if she was naive enough...
The possibilities were enough to make Lei grin, but she carefully kept it devoid of any malice, carefully kept her lips covering the two pointed fangs that would denounce her in an instant for what she was. No, if this girl were to figure out what she was, it shouldn't be by something so obvious. Otherwise, what would be the fun?

Charlie looked at the girl sitting on the bench next to her, the pale blue eyes meeting those emerald ones for the first time. The brightness of them in the dark was unnerving, but the small blonde girl wouldn’t let it get to her. She was brave, not a wimp.
The doors to the school would probably be locked by now, so she most likely would end up spending the night out of doors until someone let her in the following morning. If only she had got on that train! Thinking about what the girl had said, Charlie nodded once. The lake sounded like a good idea, and she had heard many things about it. It was supposed to be one of the school’s pride and joys.
“Sure,” she answered eventually, a small smile lighting up her face, and her almost clear blue eyes twinkling like the stars in the night sky. The part she had said about how she lived near the lake echoed in her mind, being stubborn enough not to leave. Curiosity had taken the young girl over as it so frequently did, and she knew it would be there until she had found out the answer.

Lei smiled, running a pale hand through boyishly shorn auburn locks. It was still several hours before the sun would make its ascent. She could afford to take her time. She wondered idly what had prompted the girl to agree; she was obviously still rather uncomfortable, if not downright afraid. Not afraid enough, apparently, the vampiress mused with an internal, wicked grin. She responded to the girl's sudden smile with one of her own, one that was friendly, even though she didn't bother to hide the touch of sardonic amusement.
"Very well then," she responded brusquely, stretching and striding towards the open, iron-wrought gates that led out of the graveyard, pausing to allow the girl to catch up. She was a brisk walker, and had a wider step than the girl did.
"Oh. Name's Leitana, by the way." She tossed the words out carelessly, as if they hadn't occured to her--and in truth, they hadn't--and were of no real consequence, then resumed walking. "Shall we?"

Charlie had to literally run to keep up with the girl, her small suitcase wheeling behind her. "Charlie, short for Charlotte," she introduced herself when she caught up at the gates leading out of the Graveyard.
Nodding once, she walked out of the gates and she instantly warmed up. Almost as though being in the graveyard had made her cold. "Let's go," she almost whispered, so not to break the silence hanging in the air from the grounds and the school.
