((Invite only for now, it will most likely change as it goes on))
Kaiki yanked on the laces. He felt the pressure on his foot as he tightened his second skate. Before he lost his grip on the laces, Kaiki hastily tied a bow and double knotted it. Having finished his preparations, he stood up and tapped his feet to check that his skates were tight enough. They were, of course. Kaiki was a perfectionist so it was always done right. But of course, because he was a perfectionist he was compelled to check his work anyway.
Finished with his gear, Kaiki reached his arms high into the air and stretched his body. Even while stretching he looked short. Being 3' 10", Kaiki was never mistaken as a tall person. He released the tension with a large 'huff', creating a small cloud from the cold.
Kaiki looked around at his winter surroundings. Compared to the whiteness he looked out of place. He was wearing a large buttoned trenchcoat and slacks. Why'd he look so awkward? He was in all black. Strangely, he always wore at least some black during the day. The only thing that wasn't black on him was his pale skin, his deep green hair, and his intense green eyes.
"You ready yet, Hayako?" Kaiki called out calmly, trying not to show his impatience.

The laces were looped, her bright orange skates snug on her small feet, and her legs ready to get pumping over the frozen mass of lake-water. Her short, brown-black hair seemed to float just slightly around her shoulders, her big brown eyes taking in the white and and a hopeful glint in the young one's eye. Reds, yellows, blacks, oranges, greens, and golds shown from her outfit--she had a Hufflepuff scarf, hand-me-down khakis with small holes in them, mostly around the knees, a pair of thick, rainbow, woolen socks, matching gloves, a hand-me-down, five-sizes-too-big hoodie with a worn name of an ancient Quidditch team, a plaid skirt over her kahkis, and a Christmas beanie with small plush antlers sticking out of the sides. She stood up and struck a pose of determination; she was now prepared. The only problem...
She didn't know how to skate.
The Hufflepuff tottered over and stumbled to regain her balance. She slowly moved forward, moving awkwardly, like a fish out of water. She wobbled on now shaky feet, and her ankles quaked. The little eleven year old lost her footing for a dear second, and toppled onto her rear-end. Hayako scrambled up and yelped, "I'm okay!" quite like a puppy. She then made her wavering way to Kaiki, who had just called to her.
"I-I'm read-d-y, Kaik-ki-kun...!" She squeaked, getting closer to the small boy, her waddling not getting any better.
Once she caught up with him, she was a bright scarlet, not only from the cold. "G-Gomen nasai. Sorry if I embarrassed you, Kaiki-kun." She said, embarrassed herself at acting so stupidly in front of him--she didn't want him to become angry with her, after all. She smiled goofily and said, in her thick Japanese accent. "I don't do well on skates--never have skated before."

"If you don't know how to skate, you should have said so. I can't teach you if you don't let me know. Oh well," Kaiki sighed slightly. He walked over to Hayako and carefully steadied her. With a fluid movement he placed one of Hayako's arms over his shoulders to stabalize her.
"First you have to be able to walk with skates before you can get on the ice. The trick is the ankles. Tighten your ankles to straighten yourself out. Standing up straight will help too," He advised expertly. Kaiki had grown up ice skating every winter before he moved to Japan.
But, what a weird sight they must be. Hayako in her bright paraphernalia and Kaiki in his black.

The smaller-than-normal eleven year old, usually standing a inch lower than her friend, now with the skates, stood at 3 feet 11 inches; (probably still one inch lower than Kaiki, though) spoke in a half-hushed tone. "S-Sorry, Ki-kun. I f-forgot."
As Kaiki placed Haya's arm over his shoulders to let the small one regain her balance, she did as she was told and tightened those quivering ankles, with a bit of difficulty; but she did it, much like a dog would take a command and do it loyaly. "Uhm--D-Doum-mo, Kaiki-kun-n. Thanks." she whispered, and she grinned, teeth still slightly chattering. She blushed more as she realised what a pair they make visually: her in bright, different coloured clothing and him in his solitary plain black. She giggled as pictured then form any onlooker's point of veiw--how weird!
A cold wintery breeze blew, and her messy locks flew to the side, and her rosy cheeks grew ever more rosy as the cold nipped at her exposed facial skin. Her ever chattering teeth finally stopped chattering for the strangest reason--she felt a wave of heat come over her for some apparant reason...
As she shook it off, she glanced back at Kaiki and smiled sweetly.
"Well, are we going to skate, or what, Kaiki-kun?" she squeaked, grinning happily at the boy.

"Alright then, let's get out onto the ice," Kaiki suggested. He carefully led the beginner to the ice, the snow on the ground making crunching sounds under their skates.
"Skating is sort of like walking, but with less steps. You have to let yourself glide between steps. Let's see... how to do this... oh yes..." Kaiki explained and then began speaking to himself. He let go of Hayako for a second and stood on the ice in front of her. Gingerly, he picked up her hands into his own gloved hands and led her out on the ice, he going backwards and she going forwards.
"Just remember the pattern: one two, one two."

"O-Okuru na, Kaiki-kun. Let's go...!" the Hufflepuff piped up, trying to steady herself and waddle-walk without falling on her bum again. Her small face lit up with a happy little grin.
Haya suddenly noted the carolers close by, singing one of her favorite carols--Silent Night. That made her lips stretch further and she giggled, quitely singing along as Kaiki stepped up onto the ice as she followed him closely. She let Kaiki's black gloved hands find her bright, rainbow ones, as her blush became more evident by the second, Then they were off. Then her smile started to fail her. She was afraid she would trip and tumble onto Kaiki, but she shook the thought from her mind and the smile was restored.
"Ichi, ni, ichi, ni, ichi, ni..." she counted aloud, her clumsy feet actually obeyting her requests to stay steady, and go one, two, one, two. Her smile brightened as she realised this, but still stumbling a little every few seconds, or so.

Kaiki was quite focused on the task at hand and was therefore oblivious to the tune Hayako was humming. He was just trying to keep her up while not falling himself (he wasn't the greatest at skating backwards at slow speeds). It wasn't until the pair were far out onto the ice that he realized she was doing just fine.
"Heh..." Kaiki chuckled slightly, a mischievious smile on his face. He deftly let go of Hayako's hands and pushed off with his skates to put some distance between the two. It was time for Hayako to try to skate on her own.
Kaiki turned himself around so that he was skating forwards and skated slowly so that Hayako could catch up. When she did, he settled in to skate at her pace by her side.
"You doing alright?" Kaiki asked, a bit concerned.

"Ichi, ni, ichi, ni, ichi, ni, ichi, ni..."
Haya was so focused on her own task, that she didn't register Kaiki's chuckles until the second after he let go of her hands. Her smile faltered again, and she stumbled badly, but quickly recovered. She was now scared--a small yelp emitted from her mouth as she tried to focus on the counting: one, two, one, two. But she was faliling miserably. She miracously made it, though, and caught up with Kaiki.
"Trying, na. I think I've got it, Ki-kun...!" she replied. As she looked up at him and smiled, one of her skates hit a small pebble, and she started to tumble forward. Her head snapped forward, and her eyes jammed shut...
"Oof...!"
A squeak could be heard from under a pile of snow with antlers. Her colourful head poked out from the great white pile of white fluffy snow. She donned a blank look and blinked a few times. Then she started giggling. "Hahahahahahah! That was fun!" Her rosy face was full of joy as she sat there giggling.
Haya slowly got up from under the small mountain of snow and, still smiling wide, slowly made her way back to the ice, while wiping white specks off her outfit. She uttered a small, humble "Gomen nasai, Kaiki-kun," and looked up at him to see his reaction.

Well, Kaiki was quite amused. His expression was one of amusement - showing exactly what he was feeling, a rare occurence. He had one eyebrow raised and a small smile.
"That's the strangest fall I've ever seen," He commented, doing his best not to laugh, "Well, I suppose my first fall wasn't exactly artistic either..." Rather than pursue that topic (as Kaiki was rather embarrassed about that one) he did his best to change the subject.
"You okay? Not hurt or too cold from the fall?" Kaiki asked.

She nodded her head and laughed some more. “Oh, so you are saying your fall was better than mine, na, Ki-kun?” she giggled. “Well I say iie.”
Haya’s smile stood in place as she replied to his questions. “Iie, iie. I’m fine, na. Just a little shaken up is all.” She grabbed one of Kaiki’s hands and said, “Now, shall we continue, Ki-kun? I'd like to skate more with you.” and she gave a sweet grin at her friend.

"All right then. You ready to try going a bit faster?" Kaiki asked casually, "You see that other bank? Let's see how fast we can get there." Kaiki was trying to challenge Hayako a bit. Had he not been worried about her falling he would have suggested a race. But that'd be a bit unfair...
OOC: wow, short post... but I can't think of anything better. >>;

"H-Hai!" she said, putting the bank into veiw. She sqeuaked "Hayaku!! Let's go!!"
She held onto Kaiki's hand still and squeezed, signaling for them to go as she looked at him again, giving off a bright smile and let out a few high pitched giggles as she quickly readied her feet.
She put one foot in front of the other and started off, with Kaiki in tow. Haya's chocolate eyes scanned the frozen surface of the lake for anymore hidden pebbles, and looked back at Kaiki.
Suddenly, another wave of warmth washed over her, and she looked at Kaiki a bit differently--her eyes softened, and her smile grew into a shy, candy-sweet grin and her cheeks, which had lost thier colour over the past few minutes, suddenly were painted a deep red again. She chuckled softly, shook her head, and squeezed his hand again, still blushing.

One two, one two. Kaiki's skates picked up speed to keep up with Hayako, what was going amazingly fast for a beginner. As he began to get used to the speed, he looked up to find Hayako looking at him. He noticed her redden and turn away.
What was that? Kaiki thought, perplexed. His green eyes blinked a few times in his confusion. But when he felt that warm squeeze on his hand, his confusion faded away. Instead, a warmth blossomed in his chest, something he couldn't really place as any one thing. He felt like he was chasing after a piece of thread that the wind was blowing away from him, keeping it just a hand's reach away. While that vexed Kaiki, he had to admit he was enjoying the chase.
Kaiki found himself smiling. A genuinely happy smile. Maybe not a bright smile like Hayako's, but it was more of a smile than he had done in years.

Hayako looked back just in time to see Kaiki smile. It was something she hadn't seen in all of the time that she'd been friends with him. It was a true smile--genuine.
Seeing that, and knowing he was with her while smiling so sincerely made her whole face light up, and she got a very strong urge to hug him. In fact, she slowed down a bit and almost stopped, starting reach her arms forward toward him, but then she remembered.
The Curse.
Her face fell for a split second, and she hoped he didn't see it, for she didn't want his beautiful smile to fade away. Her still red-tinted cheeks dimpled in the same smile they held before, and she also hoped he didn't notice her arms go out into an almost hug--she didn't want him asking questions.
For the whole time that they knew eachother, she'd kept her sercet hidden away from him. for fear that he'd leave her because she was a freak with a cursed family. So "mum" was the word.
The small girl slowed, still, now letting him have the chance to lead her, if he chose, and her head tilted downward slightly, but she still looked up at him with that soft, almost loving gaze.

What was that? Kaiki found himself wondering for the second time. That strange movement... what was it supposed to lead to? Kaiki was once again, perplexed. But rather than to dwell on it, he decided to just enjoy the moment.
When he realized that Hayako was letting him lead, Kaiki let himself glide to a halt. He looked over at the sun... It was getting late, as the sun was getting close to the horizon line.
"It's getting nippy, isn't it?" Kaiki remarked with a shiver. He really didn't want the moment to end, but he didn't really want to freeze either.
