They're dead, and it's all my fault..
Those words had ran through her mind all of the night before, again and again, like a song on repeat. Her father, his pack, her only friends. Dead. Killed by hunters her step-father had hired. All to get back at her for running away.
But I couldn't stay... Daddy understood why I had to leave.. he wouldn't have held it against me.. she thought, trying to push away the guilt that washed over her, wave after wave, drowning her in it. Wrapping her arms around her stomach, she hugged herself protectively as she walked, booted feet crunching the undergrowth that littered the forest floor.
Her step-father had always hated her, mainly because she was the daughter of her mother and another man. But also because she was a lycan, her mother was one too but she always behaved like a proper human- oblivious, obediant, and domesticated. Lizzie could never manage to act the part of a human, no matter how hard or how many times she tried, she just wasn't human. She didn't want to be human.
And for that, more than anything, he hated her. And he had taken every opportunity to show her the extent of his hate for her. He beat her, insulted her, forbidded her from seeing her father. He threatened her, tried to train her, left her at death's doorstep on more than one occasion. He kept her locked away for weeks at a time; punished, tortured.
I had to leave, I had no other choice.. she reassured herself, hugging herself tighter. Coming to a stop, her violet gaze roamed over her surroundings, peering into the shadows, alert for any sign of movement. The sun, just now dawning, peeked through small gaps in the canopies, offering slivers of light.
Dropping to the ground, she leaned back against the bark of a tall oak, crossed her jean-clad legs, and pulled the hood further over her head to keep her face in shadow. Tilting her head downward, she squeezed her eyes shut, tears streaming down her milky cheeks, sobs echoing through the silent forest. It's all my fault..
ooc: Don't mind the crappiness... I just woke up a little bit ago...
