OOC: Invite Only
Adam sat up in his bed in the common Room, eyes wide, and breathing heavily. He was covered in a sheen of sweat, and he felt sick to his stomach. Something was wrong. It had only been a week and a half since his close encounter with death, but he had assumed the nurses in the hospital wing knew what they were doing when he came stumbling in. Memories of that day were cloudy at best, and the splitting headache he had now only seemed to make remembering that much harder.
Climbing out of the bed caused Adam to nearly vomit, the feeling of nausea in his stomach was so great. Stumbling over to the window, Adam looked outside and saw the around the edge of a cloud moonlight giving the cloud a ethereal silver lining. The light seemed to stab through his eyes and set off something in his mind, making his headache nearly unbearable. But for some reason, Adam didn't want to turn away. Mustering his strength, Adam looked away from the window, only to begin retching, as though trying to get something out of his throat. Adam thought he smelled something rotting, something decaying. He knew he had to get out of the room.
As Adam ran through the halls of the school, the stench followed him. He stopped to take a moment to breathe, afraid that if he kept running, he would hurt himself. Suddenly, it was as if an unknown force had turned up the volume of the castle. The most minute sounds crashed through Adam's ears, reverberating off of his skull. He wanted to scream it hurt so much. Something evil, something dying, what does it want with me?! What is going on?! Adam was in a state of near panic as he continued running.
Upon entering the Entrance Hall, the way to freedom, Adam redoubled his efforts, running faster than he had ever thought he could. Nearly falling in the process, Adam opened the two large doors marking the way into the school. A cool night breeze greeted him, washing over his damp skin, feeling wonderfully cleansing. But as he stopped to take a breath, he realized that the stench had followed him. Completely lost for what to do, Adam let instinct take over, and he continued running. Soon he had passed the lake, passed into a place the students were strongly advised not to go. The Forbidden Forest.
As Adam ran deeper and deeper into the dark woods, he realized that the smell was gone. The overpowering stench held no sway in this primal place. The sounds were gone to. The deafening sound of creaks and groans, the sounds of clangs and bangs. All replaced by the beautiful silence only nature could claim. Even the darkness did not impair as Adam could now see clearer than he had ever before. He sighed, and curled up contentedly on a patch of moss he found growing on the forest floor. Sleep came to him, softly carrying him into the world of dreams. He was home.
Sleep was quickly taken from him by a blinding flash of pain though. Adam felt as though stakes were being driven into his skull mercilessly pounding deeper and deeper into his mind. Adam looked up at the sky, and felt his whole body go numb with shock. The moon had finally shown itself, basking the landscape in its soft light. Adam could feel himself begin to twitch with an anticipation he did not fully understand.
An itch developed in the middle of his back, one that Adam couldn't reach, no matter how hard he tried. It felt as though he had gotten a rash from laying on the moss, a particularly painful rash. Adam's back felt as though needles were pushing their way up from underneath his skin, digging through the tissue to their freedom. As he tried to scratch the unreachable itch, Adam felt his nails growing longer. Pulling his hand out of the back of his shirt, he stared in a mix of horror and wonder as the nails of his hands grew darker, longer, sharper, and harder. They were no longer human nails.
"Its a nightmare. You're having a nightmare. It was caused by the stress of your injuries, this is not real." Adam whispered to himself as he clenched his eyes shut, hugging his arms around his body, rocking back and forth, whimpering. Adam's eyes flew open not a moment later. The itch on his back had spread to other parts of his body, and with his hands on his arms, Adam could feel what it really was. He was sprouting fur. The feeling of needles was really the fur, a dark gray color, pushing its way out from under his skin. Adam pulled his hands away, to terrified to even touch his own body.
"This is ar nightmarrg. This is ar nightmarrg." Adam repeated, but found that this time, he couldn't form the words. Fearing what he would find, Adam hobbled over to a small pond of water he had noticed nearby, and looked into its reflective surface. His mouth and nose were painfully pushing away from the rest of his face, which was covered in fur. His ears had traveled to the top of his head and had become triangular. Adam yelped and drew back from the pond. The pain of his face being stretched was agonizing, but the pain inside his mouth was even worse. Running his now elongated tongue over his canines, Adam found to his horror that they were growing into sharp, slicing fangs.
Adam's eyes bulged in their sockets as the worst pain yet racked his body. He could hear the bones of his body shift and snap, changing their structure. He tried to scream, but the only thing that came out was a hoarse howl. As the sound echoed through out the trees, Adam fought to stay conscious through the storm of agony. After what seemed like an eternity of pleading for the pain to stop, it was gone. Adam stood up, waiting for something else to happen. When nothing did, he walked apprehensively towards the pond.
Staring back at him from the smooth surface was one of the most handsome creatures he had ever seen. It was a wolf, dark grey in color, but with eyes of a midnight blue shade that held the unmistakable gleam of human intelligence. The shock of seeing such a majestic animal staring back at him was only surpassed by the shock of realizing that it was himself he was looking at. Swishing his tail back and forth, Adam barked at the image in the water, wondering how this could have happened.
Adam went over all of his most recent memories, trying to figure out when and where this could have happened. The day he had been gravely injured and lost his way, he had fallen down a cliff. There was a beautiful woman there, he remembered her staring at him, and something about a dog. Then there was nothing. He couldn't remember anything after that. Suddenly, Adam had a revelation. He had been near the Lycan's Tunnels. The woman he remembered must have been one of them, deciding whether she should kill him or let him live. The last thing Adam remembered seeing wasn't a dog, but a large wolf. a Lycan. She must have bitten him, and Turned him. At first, Adam found himself furious at the mysterious Lycan, taking his life into her hands, but when he thought about it, he supposed that he wouldn't have survived without her help. Besides, being angry at her wouldn't change his current state. Sighing as much as he could as a wolf, Adam laid his head down on his paws, wondering what he would do now.
