Kelly exited the school just as the sun was setting, late Saturday afternoon. She walked briskly to the forest - she feared that if she went any slower, she would lose her nerve, and go back to the school. Making sure that her wand was in hand, she boldly stepped past the first line of trees, entering the forest.
She had heard all the stories about the forest, but those stories that scared everyone away also awoke a sense of curiosity in the Ravenclaw. As she got deeper and deeper past the trees, though, she realized just how bad an idea this was. Every time she went to turn around, though, the forest became more alluring, and she continued to explore.

A soft laugh announced the presense of a Forest Lycan, one of the most feared creatures of the forest. At the moment, however, the figure who came out of the shadows didn't look threatening or dangerous at all. Mondia resembled a student at the school, except for the fact that she was wearing a simple brown dress instead of robes. Her yellow eyes, usually fierce and calculating, were curious and mild. The Lycan was obviously still recovering from the shock of finding out that one of her mortal enemies, Hayzie, was now one of her fellow wolves.
"So, what do we have here?" The brunette's sharp canine teeth sparkled in the light of Kelly's wand. Though Lycans and Vampires generally avoided each other and denied any relation, the teeth of the two species led back to the days when the groups of creatures were closely intertwined.
"A student or something more? Nothing will surprise me tonight. Out with it girl, what are you doing in this forest?"

Kelly nearly jumped out of her skin when she heard someone laughing. Turning to see who it was, she at first thought the simple-looking girl was a student. But on closer examination, she realized what she was talking to was no student, but a Lycan - and Kelly had a sinking feeling she wouldn't be as nice as Hayzie, or some of the other lycans she'd met up at the school.
Those sharp teeth flashed as the lycan questioned her, making Kelly even more nervous. Her heart raced, as she tried to think of a reply that wouldn't make her sound like the silly little student this creature probably thought she was. Or better yet, a reply that wouldn't get her killed.
"I...I...I don't know, to tell you the truth. I've heard the rumors, and wanted to see if they were true..." she finished lamely. So much for not sounding like a little schoolgirl. She looked in those yellow eyes, wondering what the Lycan had in store for her.

Mondia's blood-red mouth quirked up into a cruel smirk. Her golden eyes, however, remained more teasing than dangerous for the time being. She wasn't up for a kill... yet. At least she wasn't until her sight flickered over the wand in Kelly's hand. The Lycan's smirk diminished a little, and her joking eyes darkened in anger. She knew what that stick of wood represented for witches. Mondia once had lost a patch of fur to Artemis' wand. There was still a blackened spot on her back where the magical fire had fallen. Her gaze flashed back up to Kelly's eyes immediately. Lycans were known to avoid showing fear and pain, and she was not about to let her opponent know about the fright the wand had just caused her.
"Rumors? What rumors? Don't tell me that you wanted," her voice took on a mimicing squeak of several new students who had come to visit her, "to 'actually meet a Lycan.' You look old enough to know that wolves are animals, just as dangerous as dragons. So what rumors have you heard?"

Kelly, noticing Mondia's wandering eyes on her wand, stuck the thing in her pocket. She was only here to satisfy her curiosity, not to harm the inhabitants of the forest - she didn't want to use the wand unless she had to. Although she wasn't as observant as the Lycan she spoke to, she could tell that she wasn't comfortable with it. She dropped her arms to her side; an unspoken way of saying she meant no harm.
"No, you're right. This isn't a suicide attempt," she said, and almost had to fight to hold back a laugh.
"How often do you get 'visitors' like that?" she suddenly asked. She partly asked to change the subject off of her, but also, she knew of how many students wandered into the forest, and wondered how many of them were that stupid, to go looking for a Lycan.

"Two in the last day, at least."
Mondia's smile reappeared as the wand was replaced in Kelly's pocket. Her yellow eyes lost their evil glaze. What was this, a respectful student?
"One of them actually escaped before I could gnaw off a limb. It usually doesn't turn out that way. The other actually ended up as a Lycan himself."
The Forest Lycan paused, considering what she had just said.
"I'm getting too lax, aren't I?"

"I don't think I'm the one to ask, am I? I mean, the more lax you are, the better of I am," Kelly pointed out, with a shrug. A tiny smile graced her lips - she was relaxing a little, even though she knew that wasn't the smartest idea.

Mondia allowed herself a quick grin. She wasn't in a killing mood, for the second time that day. Ever since Hayzie had appeared in the forest, the Forest Lycan had been becoming more peaceful. Ever since Ash had appeared in the forest, actually.
"Too true. So, what house do you come from, up at the school? Do you know Hayzie?"

"Ravenclaw, and yes, I do," Kelly replied.
"We were fairly good friends until...this...happend - now I don't get many chances to see her," she added, assuming that she didn't need to elaborate.

Mondia's attitude swiftly changed from friendly to sly once more. Lycans, as far as she was concerned, were not supposed to befriend the lower species, namely the humans. Ash was Mondia's only exception. Hayzie's friendship with them was drawing students around her and into the forest. Students were supposed to remain at the castle, not in the woods. A visit from respectable ones from time to time was alright, but several per night was too many. They would trample the grass of the forest and end up damaging it accidentally.
"Oh, you're one of Hayzie's human friends. Then, perhaps, you would be able to warn her other ones of the danger of these trees? Too many of your kind have been dropping in as of recently to visit her. I permitted the boy student to come in to speak with her without hinderance, but his interference in this forest is already evident. Hayzie must be alone for a while to learn to deal with her new powers and her new companions. I must ask you to leave... unless, of course, you wish to join her?"
Mondia grinned wickedly, her fangs glistening all-too prominently.

"I wasn't here to visit her," Kelly said quickly, realizing that she had offended Mondia yet again. Her heartbeat quicked, her eyes flicking nervously to the glittering fangs of the Lycan.
"But I'll be happy to pass the message along," she added, hoping to make amends - and come out of this ordeal alive, and intact. What had possesed her to come to the forest in the first place? Her hand itched to grab her wand, but she knew she was in enough hot water as it is.
"Yes, I'll just be on my way now..." she said, backing away slowly. But as she looked about, she knew that wasn't possible - she discovered that she had gone too deep in the forest, and had no idea of how to get out.

The evil glint in Mondia's eyes faded again. Kelly's reassuring tone had worked.
"Good. Hayzie needs to stay away from your kind. If a Lycan tries to live two lives, it can drive them crazy. She would never be able to truly fit in with either crowd, if she left the forest so soon."
Little did Mondia know, Hayzie was at that very moment attempting to head back up to the school.
"Very well, though. You may go." Mondia decided, her golden eyes flickering upward to meet Kelly's. A small smirk appeared on her face once more. Kelly's eyes still shone with fear, though there was nothing to worry about anymore. Mondia had given her word. Kelly was free, yet she still worried. Either the student was afraid of the forest... or she was lost.
"I don't know much about magic," the Forest Lycan said quietly. "But I believe a finding spell might get you out of these woods the quickest?"

Kelly nodded. She had thought of doing a spell, but she was afraid that preforming magic in front of Mondia would either scare the Lycan, or make her angry - both were probably not a good thing.
She turned away from Mondia, and did a quick compass spell. Once she discovered which way to go, she turned back, said a quick goodbye, and began her journey back to the school.

Mondia shook her head silently as she watched the student wandering off into the distance.
That's the last student I let walk off whole.
The Forest Lycan crouched down and leapt into the air. Midway, the woman vanished and in her place was a sleek brown wolf. She twisted around much like a cat and, landing with a bound, sauntered off into the trees.
