...and sadly, it was Carmen's turn. Classes were trudging slowly, and increasing the blue-haired girl's need and want to learn common spells. She had only really been taught how to change someone's hair from one colour to the next, courtesy of Hayzie. But now she seeked a tutor. Someone who could help the hufflepuff learn the basics, if anything.
With both her hands gripped tightly into her Hufflepuff cloak, one grasping the mahogany wand within, the girl shoved the doors open to find the place with scattered studets, all either learning or just having fun. 'Wow' thought Carmen as she watched the various incantations being thrown across the room.

It had been a good while since Hikalyn had last stopped by the Duelling Halls. She wasn't much for the sport, herself; the only duel she'd ever participated in had been years ago, not long after arriving at the school for the first time. She couldn't even remember the duel's conclusion. Still, much as she wasn't really interested in joining in any of the duels that might be taking place, they were usually entertaining enough to watch.
She pushed the double-doors open, giving the room a quick glance to make sure no stray curses were flying her way before ducking inside. Once she did, she found the room a bustle of activity. It didn't look like there were any particularly formal challenges going on, just people pairing up and having fun.
Glancing around the room, her eyes settled on one girl, who stood out mostly because she was alone, just watching the others at their work--and maybe it was only Kalyn's imagination, but she thought the girl, a Hufflepuff by the cloak wrapped comfortably around her shoulders, looked a tad forlorn.
Picking her way along the sidelines, Hikalyn came up beside the girl and offered her a smile. "You a spectator too?" she asked, her gaze going between the girl she had addressed and the bright flashes of light that indicated hurled curses and jinxes. Never a dull moment in this room, that was for sure.

A bright flash was sprung from a wand being held by a boy in Slytherine and gave birth to a ball of green flames, hurdling straight for Carmen. Ducking out of the way so that it collided with the wall behind her, she replied the smile with an equally inviting grin. This girl was obviously a lot older than herself, three or four years maybe. Probably a seventh year student too.
This made her only slightly uneasy. What was Carmen to expect? With slightly dull eyes she replied "Yeah, I don't know anything about anything really, so came to see what it's like," Carmen referred to the many battles being held around them. How she longed to know spells. Stories of witches and wizards and magical creatures held her attention for hours on end.
Much to her parents' dismay.

Hikalyn stepped smoothly out of the way of the flames, not seeming at all disconcerted by the rushing viridian fires. Once they had dissipated with an irritable hiss, smothered by the stone walls, she turned and directed an amused look at the boy who had hurled the errant spell. When he realized he'd nearly nailed the two bystanders with it, he flushed a dusky red, offered the pair an embarassed grin, and turned back to his partner with renewed determination.
Hikalyn nodded, tucking a stray lock of black hair behind her ear. "I see, so you're just here to see what you can pick up?" She chuckled. "It's a good place to start, I suppose. The only danger," she added with a grin, gesturing to the wall where the mass of green flames had hit moments before, "is sometimes, you can end up getting more of a taste than you necessarily wanted..."

The girl would have never believed her eyes had she seen the rip-roaring room before she had recieved the letter that vindicated her rather odd experiences. There were a mass array of charms and jinxes being thrown around the hall that not even Carmen could keep her eye fully on. Turning behind her to see the roasted surface of the wall, the girl grinned eagerly, all the more asserting her want.
Now that she had slowly turned back to the older girl, still catching various spells within her eyesight, Carmen kept her appetent grin across her lips. "As I've seen," replied the Hufflepuff with a twinkle in her eyes. "I know hardly any spells whatsoever, so I've come to pick up some tips from these duels."

The other girl's grin as she turned from the now soot-coated stone wall was infectious; Kalyn couldn't help but return it. "Makes sense," she conceded in response to the other girl's words. For a brief moment, she turned her attention back to all the pairs of students in the Hall, watching the curses fly, jets of light in every colour of the spectrum. Some hit their intended targets, some went wide, some were deflected by shield charms. Every now and again a jinx intended for one person would hit someone one else, and though it wasn't completely unexpected when the Hall was as crowded as this, it only helped add to the general chaos of things. Muttered incantations were going on all over the wide room, along with good-natured taunts, laughter, shrieks of surprise and basically, everything else, made it impossible to pick out the words of one particular spell over another.
"Watching is always a good start," the Head Girl agreed, turning back to the other girl as a thought occured to her. She nodded out to the general mess that was the Duelling Hall as if her words needed confirming. "But, I find it doesn't really compare at all to actually doing... if you're looking for a little help?"

The next target of learning after the day of the duelling hall; library. Books always held the perfect incantations for Carmen to learn with ease, or so she assumed. Being unaccepted within the 'hierarchy' of other students in the past forced the girl to take to books, stories of dragons and faeries and werewolves and other such creatures becoming her best friend. For they held a place where no one else could go. Her imagination.
The offer of help was nothing that Carmen could refuse. She had longed to be able to cast spells and hexes for many years, and was now within the school that made it all possible; not to mention the helping hand the lady had so kindly offered. "That would be fantastic!" the girl exclaimed rather loudly, excitedness thriving through her veins.

It was hard not to catch on to the younger girl's excitement. At her exclamation, Hikalyn grinned broadly. "Hey, not a problem," she assured the other, absently dipping her slender fingers into a concealed pocket and pulling out a stick of dark, polished mahogany: her wand. She drummed it thoughtfully against the knuckles of her other hand for a moment, wondering just where she ought to start. "Well," she asked after a brief pause, "anything specific you're after? What kind of spells were you hoping to learn?" She figured the other girl would want to know about jinxes, curses, hexes, the like--but that was certainly an area Hikalyn knew well. Part of the job description.
"By the way, I'm Hikalyn," the raven-haired young woman gave herself a mental shake to accompany the words as she realized that they hadn't really been introduced. "And you are?"
OOC: Sorry for the delay and the absolutely crap post... my muse has completely abandoned me around here lately, I find...

Raising a finger to her pale pink lips in thought, Carmen hummed. What did she want to know? It didn't matter what she learnt. "I'm not looking for anything definite, just anything and everything!" she exclaimed once again. It would do well to at least know some charms and curses, working at the Ministry and all. A fair hike, but it was a thing she enjoyed.
"Oh! I'm Carmen. A pleasure Hikalyn!" She almost blushed from embarrassment. She wouldn't have been caught dead without her manners usually. Why was this time so different?
