The doors to the Dueling Hall, not that often used, swung open with the slightest of groans, permitting a tiny figure to step inside.
Not many would have looked so out of place here as did Abrena Nott. Standing at a mere five-foot-two, she was as slender as she was short, and the end result made her look like a good gust of wind might blow her away. That, combined with the yellow-gold hair that framed a delicate face that could not have seen more than fourteen winters, often fostered a tendancy for others to treat her like a porcelain doll. Those who did not know her. Those who didn't take the time to look, really look, into the big blue eyes that surveyed the world with a cynical maturity that belonged to someone much older than she, the eyes that held an icy dignity that went beyond simple youthful precociousness.
Eyes or no eyes, however, Abrena was hardly the type of person you'd expect to see hanging around in the Dueling Hall. Surely a single careless flick of a wand could send that fragile figure flying backwards. But then, dueling wasn't about size or strength. Dueling was about versatility, speed and wits, all qualities which she possessed an abundance of.
Despite that, she hadn't really come here seeking a duel. She'd mostly wanted to look around, to explore - she'd been at the school for little over a week - and to watch other duels taking place. If someone had challenged her to a duel, she probably would have accepted, but at this juncture that wasn't looking too likely. Nor was watching anyone else, she concluded silently, a wry twist to her lips as she surveyed the empty room. With a shrug, she decided to do a bit of poking into corners anyway, just to see if there was anything worth seeing.

It was raining. Orca hated the rain. For one, it got his fur all wet and slowed him down. But that wasn't the point. The point was, was that Orca was not a rainy day sort of person. Rain just put him in a bad mood. So he had come storming to the Dueling Hall in hopes of releasing some of his anger in a duel. Silver eyes flicked back and forth, trying to find anyone, anyone at all, to play with. Instead, he found himself looking at a little girl.
Well, maybe 'little girl' was too harsh. She was just really small, petite, and didn't look like the sort of person you could regularly take your anger out on without breaking in two.
The wolf-boy growled to himself. There is no way I would fight her, or that she'd even fight me. Besides... he glanced back up at the girl. She's obviously a witch. And my magic abilities suck. Then he blinked. The hell am I talking to myself for?
Nodding to himself in resolution, the young Lycan padded over to the girl, and offered out one slim hand in greeting.
"Hi there. I'm Orca. 'Tis a pleasure to meet you, Miss...?"

Abrena looked, unable to supress a tiny start of surprise when the doors to the Duelling Hall verily exploded inwards, permitting entrance to a silver-eyed young man who looked about ready to bite something in half. He seemed surprised to find her there. She watched emotions flicker across his face, too fast for her to make out. Then he nodded to himself as if agreeing with some unspoken instruction, and strode over to where Abrena stood, extending his hand as well as an introduction.
"Nott," she supplied for him in her quiet voice, giving his hand a shake and then letting her own hand fall back to her side. "Abrena Nott. And, likewise." Her accustomed formality was distantly friendly, coolly polite, but having dispensed with the introductions, she let the mask slip a bit, instead regarding Orca with a strange ammalgamation of wry humor not necessarily directed at anyone in particular and detached sympathy. "Having one of those days?"

"That I am," Orca agreed, the corner of his lip curling into the smallest of smiles. Maybe this wouldn't be as bad as he'd thought. The girl seemed quite charming, yet at the same time not a person who would put up with any crap. Orca relaxed, and his eyes slowly dissolved back to their more normal blue-green color.
"And may I ask why you are here, Miss Nott?"

Even slight as it was, the boy's smile was contagious. Abrena felt her lips curving upwards into a small smile of her own, but even so, the girl's blue eyes remained focused on Orca's face and hardly ever blinked.
She responded to his question with a tiny, non-committal shrug. "I'm new here; I was taking the opportunity to explore a bit. I'd hoped to be able to watch one of the duels taking place, but..." She didn't bother to finish the sentance, instead waving a hand at the empty expanse of room around them.
Her smile broadened a bit. "I would ask you the same, but the asking seems rather redundant..."

This time, he allowed a full smile to creep over his face. "Yeah... it seems that the duelling has gotten a bit more... sparse of late, ne?" He yawned. "Jeez... So you're new here, then? That's cool. What year are you, if you don't mind me askin'?"

Kody, running around like the mad fool she was, strolled happily into the dueling hall, swinging her walking stick to and fro. Her eyes were shut, so apparently she had no idea where she was going....and apparently, she didn't care. It's so great to be back! she thought to herself. I wonder where everyone is, everyone being Orca, Bree, Wyl, and well everyone... With that, she let her brain shut up. Kody opened her eyes to find herself in probably one of the few rooms in MH she hadn't entered, the dueling hall. The room was empty, save for two figures talking. She didn't know one, but the other.... "ORCA!!" she yelled, joyous to see her old friend.

She nodded, the action causing a wisp of golden-blonde hair to fall in front of her eyes. She brushed it away. "Fourth year," she responded, but before she could open her mouth again to inquire in kind, the doors to the Duelling Hall swung open once more. With an eyebrow raised in consternation, Abrena thought to herself that this must be more use than the Hall had gotten in days.
She schooled her face to stillness as she watched the latest occupant of the room approach, though the sight was definitely a little... odd, even in a school where the unexpected lurked behind every corner. A girl wandered into the room, tapping away at the floor with walking cane and her eyes squeezed tightly shut. A moment later, they popped open and focused on the boy standing across from her. She greeted him with a shout that would have made her wince had she not been so used to keeping her features smooth. The sound was amplified by the way it reverberated off the walls in the vast room.
She gave the girl a little nod in greeting, then turned her attention back to Orca and asked in her customarily quiet voice, "Know each other, I presume?"

Kody turned to Abrena, an apologetic smile on her face. "Oh, I'm sorry. That was rather rude of me. Hello, I'm Dakota, or Kody, Slytherin prefect. It's a pleasure to meet you."

Orca grinned.
"Hey, Kody," he greeted the girl as he seized her in a tight hug. "I heard you were back."
He smiled at Abrena. "Yeah, I met Kody a while ago."
The wolf-boy stretched, his original intentions for coming to the Hall completely forgotten. Now, with eyes a clear turqouise color, he asked them, "Whaddya guys wanna do?"

"Likewise," Abrena responded to Kody in her quiet voice, giving the other girl a smile--friendly, but definitely reserved. "Abrena Nott. I'm in Slytherin, also." In truth, she had been surprised to hear at first that this girl was in Slytherin. She didn't at all fit Abrena's mental image of someone from that admittedly notorious House. But then, she'd only heard tales of the House secondhand, and rumors like that did have a habit of becoming grossly exaggerated.
In response to Orca's question, she only shrugged her slight shoulders. She hadn't really come down here with anything in particular in mind, other than watching one of the duels going on, and at this juncture that wasn't seeming very likely. She was a bit surprised that Orca had included her in the question, as well. She would have thought that he'd rather spend time with his friend.
"I had nothing specific in mind, really," she admitted, thinking that the question required a bit more in answer than just a shrug of the shoulders.

Kody hugged Orca back and smiled at Abrena. "I know I don't look like a Slytherin member, but some say that I have a knack for getting into trouble," she said, almost as if reading her mind, but instead, simply understanding the look on the pretty girl's face.
"As for your question, Orca," she said, turning back to him, "I have no idea. I'm just happy to be back."
