*invite only*
The History of Magic classroom had been almost completely uninhabited for nearly a week. Darkness shrouded the room - no light lit the pictures on the wall, and one could not tell the Professor's bed from a table. In fact, it would've been entirely empty, and entirely dark, if it were not for someone who perched himself upon the bedside table. Trajan, the Professor's faithful Phoenix companion, had been within the classroom for the past two days, though the Professor had not returned from the Hospital Wing performing his crazy elemental experiments. Trajan's brilliant coat of fire let off a tiny red gleam on his surroundings. One could see him out of the darkness, but not much else.
Alas, this dark state did not last long. The door to the classroom swung open violently, sparks flying from the doorhandle. The shades in the windows flew up, and Professor Talon Windwaltz stepped within. He seemed to be rather burdened by something, and gauze was wrapped almost completely around his body over estimated burn marks. Without a word to Trajan, Talon limped over and collapsed into his bed. Trajan stared at him for a minute straight, waiting for some further movement, but none came. Nearly thirty seconds later, Talon started snoring happily. Trajan shook his beakéd head sadly, and then opened his throat, before letting out an almighty screech!
"AHHHHHHH!!!!!" screamed Talon, jumping out of his bed and landing on his electronic head. Lightning discharged across the floor, and the Professor lifted his head sadly to the bird. "Why did you do that, Trajan?" His voice was glazed with a mournful tone. 'Because, my friend, you cannot be sleeping when you've made plans.' Talon rose an eyebrow at this and motioned for Trajan to continue. 'Hawkins is coming.' Talon's violet eyes widened in shock. "Aidana!? Since when did I make plans for Aidana to come!?" He bustled around the room madly, waving his wand madly and causing far more destruction than good. 'Not MISS Hawkins, you fool. MISTER Hawkins. You had to see him about...you know, that.' He motioned his head over to a cube shape on Talon's desk that seemed to moving back and forth like it contained wild beasts. It was covered delicately with a white sheet. Talon cringed at the sight of it, but shook his head and waved his wand again. The bed and 'bedroom' feel to the room disappeared and was replaced with a living room. The green couches that were throughout the room were soft and comfy, but battered at the same time. Talon, apparent by his clothing, didn't have a lot of money.
Talon stepped over to his desk, sat in his chair, and put his head down on his desk. It was about sunset, and he was hoping Mister Hawkins would arrive before nightfall.

Aylen walked nervously down the hallway. A few moments before, Mercury had brought him a note from the Professor asking him come see him right away. The hawk was still with him, sitting on his usual perch watching his master carefully. The redhead was fervently hoping that this meeting would have nothing to do with the Dungbombs he had set off near the Slytherin Hallway.
The hallways were dimly lit, and Aylen had stumbled several times causing Mercury to squawk in reproach. After this happened for the umpteenth time, the hawk impatiently snatched the Hawkins' wand from his pocket and clacked his beak in annoyance. "Er, yeah, I knew that," Aylen said sheepishly as he cast a simple lumos spell. There were no further incidents after that and Aylen quickly arrived at Professor Windwaltz's office.
The redhead reached for the doorknob, but the strange noises (and the still sparking knob) changed his mind. He knocked loudly on the door. "Erm, professor, are you alright in there?" he called out.

Talon grumbled to himself as his head was against the desk. He could never have slept with the racket the covered cube was making. The vibrations echoed throughout the desk. His eyes opened again softly, and staring him in the face was the Phoenix. Talon let out a gasp again, pushing his head back quickly. "Trajan!?" The Phoenix let out a shrill song. 'Just making sure you weren't sleeping.' He rubbed his eyes and watched the great Grandfather clock in the corner and saw that it was nigh a minute since he put his head down. It felt like longer for some reason. Just then, the covered cube let out a great large crash, and a loud knocking noise came from the door.
"Oh!" Talon said with surprise, realizing who it was behind the door. The voice that followed only comfirmed his belief. Mister Hawkins had at last come, and that could only mean something better than what was happening now. Most of his fatigue left him as he got to his knees and ran as fast as he could to the door. "Yes, yes, of course," muttered Talon to Aylen's question from beyond the door. Not risking Aylen's hand being on the other side, he flicked his wand and the door opened. "Welcome, welcome Aylen. Very good to see you got my letter."
ooc: Sorry it's so short. Didn't have much time or muse.

ooc: Me neither
Aylen had been pressing his ear to the door, trying to determine what the noises were, when the door flew open and fell in a crashing heap on the floor. Mercury squawked in alarm as his perch disappeared from under him and flapped wildly to right himself. The merlin hissed at the redhead on the ground as soon as he had a firm grip on the professor's desk and began preening himself irritably.
"Erm, good to see you too..." the Gryffindor said looking up at him grinning sheepishly. "What do you need Professor?"

Talon chuckled lightly as Aylen crashed to the floor below him. It was almost refreshing to see Aylen perform his klutzy moves. At least one thing had stayed the same since things settled down from the Danawi affair. His fond attention was snapped out by the squawking of Aylen's hawk, Mercury. Both Trajan and Talon gave the bird a swift glare. Talon had never quite forgotten how Mercury had nearly pecked him to death when Aidana had told him to send the message of Justin Cobalt's arrival to him. Trajan, on the other hand, had his own reasons for despising the hawk, which was in turn the whole reason Talon had called Aylen to him this twilight.
"Yes..." Talon's voice was softer and less anxious as before, and his eyes which were just a few moments before so bright with adoration were now dull and without charm. "Yes, I've called you here for a reason, as I presume you note. Though it'd be lovely to sit and have some scones, now is not the time." The sense of drama built around him, thickening in the air. Trajan watched him with a shining eye, quiet even in Talon's mind. "I have seen the areas that you excel in, out of practical scenarios and in conversation...now I have to ask you a favor. It should be simple for you."
The suspense rose once more. Talon marched over to his desk where Trajan was now perched quietly. He put his hand on the covered cube, and his eyes returned to Aylen, now shockingly filled with his inner spark. "This is what I have brought you here for, Mister Hawkins. What is within this cube. Are you ready?" He asked dramatically, keeping complete eye contact with the other.

(ooc: I have the distinct feeling my dear sister has been borrowing my hawk without me knowing...)
Aylen rearranged himself into a slighty more dignified position, sitting cross-legged on the plush floor.
The redhead didn't have time to be relieved he wasn't in trouble. The professor's expression had changed drastically from cheerful to serious, and this usually indicated a bad moment to crack a joke. He listened quietly, nodding his head a few times. Tension built within him.
"This is what I have brought you here for, Mister Hawkins. What is within this cube. Are you ready?"
Something in the lightning mage's gaze kept him from breaking eye contact. Aylen nodded one last time. "If you believe I can do it, professor."
(ooc: Aragh, no time...)

ooc: sorry about not posting yesterday. Had to post in another thread and I only have time to post once in computer lab.

Talon slowly nodded at Aylen's response. "Yes. You are the most ready person to handle this." His eyes lost their flash, but kept their serious tone. He turned his violet eyes to face Trajan, who was stiff and silent, and once again nodded. The Phoenix nodded back solemnly. "Then let us begin." His hand gripped the veil over the cube with shaking hands, and then, as a great sigh slipped his mouth, he pulled it off. The result was a shrieking cry from what was within. Talon stepped aside with a swift movement, and the cube was revealed to be an iron cage, and within the cage were four, small, sharp-eyed, and completely adorable baby hawks!
At the sight of Talon, the hawks began to claw at the cage and let out high pitched squawks. The squawks did not cease, and they became higher everytime. The poor Phoenix put his flaming wings over his ears comically, and the Professor put his hand on his head. "I have been given these baby hawks as a birthday present from one of your classmates," said Talon, his serious attitude lasting, "I presume now you understand why you are the only one who can help me, Mister Hawkins?" The hawks shrieked their very loudest at this point, and Talon's closed eyelid began to twitch. The serious attitude he had on his face up to this moment crashed within an instant.
"So please Aylen, please, tell me how to make these hawks stop squawking!"

The redhead blinked as the covering was whisked off, revealing the small chicks screeching with all the might their little bodies could muster. The noises they were making seemed grossly disproportionate to their size, and even Mercury seemed ruffled by their incessant squawking.
Aylen grinned, his smile strectching as if laughter would burst through any minute. The merlin, seeing as no one seemed to be doing anything about these nuisances, flew to a window and tapped at it, asking to be let out. Aylen quickly opened it for him and the bird shot out of there so fast a blur of feathers were all that were to be seen. The student shook his head and left the window open, should the hawk ever want to come back.
The humor of the situation over, Aylen was quick in asking questions. "Baby birds have a high metabolism, so they need to be fed every hour or so. They should be fed small bits of meat, never bread or milk, okay? I've found Mercury likes liver best. It should be warm, but not cooked. Raw beef and pet kibbles are also good." Aylen walked closer to the cage and the chicks cheeped even louder. "Some warmth might calm them down a bit. A bottle of warm water does the trick." He turned to the professor. "You got all that?"

Talon and Trajan both looked on in grief as the adult Hawk flew out the window in fear of the screeching babies. Trajan ruffled his feathers at this. 'Pah! Yes! Traitor! Leaving us here to suffer under these babies when the one of the same race runs away!' Talon was more focused on Aylen, breeder of hawks, and gave little thought to Mercury's flight. When Aylen began to speak about how to remedy the problem, Talon's ears heard beyond the cheeping desperately.
"Liver? And water? Trajan, do we have any liver?" He turned and shouted at the Phoenix. 'Why in heaven's name would we have liver, Talon? You despise liver beyond all other foods.' Talon groaned, realizing that he should've gotten it at lunch that day. "Well, what do we have!?" The Phoenix, his ears still covered by his wings, looked up wonderingly. 'Well...you brought up some of that roast beef for lunch...' Talon nodded quickly and threw out his wand in a valiant position towards an emerald green bag in the corner.
From forth the bag came a piece of beef, flying heroically across the room and through the bars of the cage. Talon and Trajan looked on with heated expressions, and then saw with shining eyes that the birds stopped their mad screeching and gave one last cheap before chewing happily at the meat.
"Ugh...finally..." Talon said, falling back onto his green couch. "Thank you. Thank you so much Aylen. I'm saved."

Aylen frowned as the chicks began ripping at the food. “But roast beef is cooked...” he muttered to himself. “Raw meat is better. They can’t just live off of human food when they’re that young. Where can we get a steady supply of uncooked meat?” He paced about the room, mumbling incoherently to himself.
A loud rap interrupted the redhead’s thinking. Far from deserting, Mercury had returned with three plump mice dangling from his mouth by the tails. He glided to the desk and dropped the mangled rodents on Talon’s desk, cawing smugly. It entire posture seemed to be saying ‘What would you do without me?’
“That’s it!” the Gryffindor said suddenly. “Mercury can catch food for them!” The bird stopped preening himself abruptly. He squawked protestingly. “It’s not as if you have anything else to do.” The bird grumbled something at his owner. “Well, yeah, I don’t visit you often, but I’m too busy. Now you have companions!” The merlin turned his back on him, muttering sulkily. Aylen grinned and turned to the professor. “He’ll get used to the idea.”
The fledglings had quickly finished off the beef and cried for the rodents lying limply on the desk.
