Pierre stood up and walked up to the book pile and pulled out a book. It looked old, and dusty but as Pierre knew you could never judge a book by its cover. He tucked the book under his arm and started to read.
Transfiguration - Possibly the most difficult course young witches and wizards can take during their school years, Transfiguration requires talent, intellect, common sense, and ample patience…
When he’d finished the last sentence Pierre looked up and sighed at the apple that sat before him. It seemed so dull to him; change an apple’s color, turn water into milk, stone to sand. At his old school Pierre had been in an advanced Transfiguration class. To him all this wasn’t new to him. In fact Pierre remembered a project he was once assigned in class, redo an entire room using nothing but magic. He’d gotten great marks for that project.
Pierre looked down at the apple and said dully, “Frue coluer incamos”. Before his eyes the apple changed into a healthy green. Pierre looked around and saw that no one was looking and picked the apple up to bite it. It tasted sour, too sour, and Pierre put it down, quickly, and moved on.
He stood up and got a glass then filled it with water then he took it back to his desk. “ Frue lactensius” Again the item before Pierre changed. The clearness of the water started to change slowly into a thicker, white fluid. Pierre wondered if he should taste it like he’d tasted the apple but decided the better.
The last part was the easiest. Pierre had used such a spell many times, not even in the classroom. Looking at the rock before him he pointed to it and said clearly, “Manrelis uctamus!”
Nothing happened.
“Manrelis uctamus!” Again nothing happened and Pierre looked down at his rock furiously. “Well I suppose I should just give up then…” He said putting his wand down.
One should never given up Pierre, especially during classes such as this. The spell is Minralis. Take 15 pts.

“ Frue coluer incamos” Genesis said confidently and the apple on her desk changed from red to green. Satisfied, Genesis was about to start on her next task when she noticed her twin had also attended this lesson and he was struggling.
Finally he just gave up and Genesis stood and walked over to help. “Oh come now,” Genesis whispered into Pierre’s ear.. At first she thought about just letting him suffer, but she decided not to. After all he was her brother.
“You’re just not saying it right!” Genesis took her wand out of her pocket and leaning over his shoulder said clearly, “ Minralis uctamus” Slowly the rock began to decompose.
“See?” Genesis said with a smiled. Then she handed him her own rock, “Just try again.”
Great job Genesis! I noticed what you did for your brother and it is greatly appreciated. 20 pts.

Lynette picked up her last object, the apple, and hopefully for the last time, skimmed the book. Easy, she assured herself, setting the milk and the sand to a corner of her desk, leaving the apple alone in the middle.
Because she was already warmed up to her reading material, the last object was easy to conquer. Her mind-hand wrapped elegant little fingers around the big apple and squeezed until it scrunched tighter and tighter together, almost disappearing into her hand. Then she tried to picture forests and forests of green. "Frue coluer incamos," she whispered.
When she opened her eyes, the apple had transformed into the little green apple she could pass in with confidence. Unlike her rocky sand or her slightly watery milk, the apple looked to be closest to perfect. She smiled in relief.
Congratulations Lynette, you've earned another 7 for a total of 19.

Finally Ashlle realized her question was not going to be answered. Well, might as well get to these, she thought. Looking at the small stone on her desk Ashlle focused, visualizing the stone dissolving into sand and whispering the words over to herself. Finally she thought herself ready. ~"Minralis uctamus"~ Ashlle declared, while pointing her wand at the rock. The rock immediately turn into pebbly sand. This of course was not enough for Ashlle who demanded perfection in everything she did. She performed the spell again, and got a very fine grey sand form her pebbles. "That's more like it!" she said happily. Next she tried the Water. She decided to take double as long concentrating and preparing this time, as her book said the water would resist her in any way it could. Ashlle also thought it might be a good idea to try the idea the book gave. She imagined her wands power as a hand that grabbed the water and forced it into milk. When she was ready she pointed her wand into the glass. ~"Frue lactensius"~ she declared with much intensity. The water turned milky white on her first try. Ashlle swished it round in the glass and after observing it decided it must be about one percent. That still counts as milk, She decided health conscious Muggles drink that all the time. Now for the Apple Ashlle thought eagerly. She had figured that the other two would be harder than this apple (it said so in the text) so if she succeeded in the others this apple would be easy. She pictured a Crabbe Apple as she practiced the words of the spell, then furrowing her brow, pointed her wand at the Red Delicious. ~"Frue coluer incamos"~ The bright red apple shrunk and then turned greenish white. "Bulls-eye!" said Ashlle proudly. Another impressive showing Ashlle, you've earned 20 pts.

Jenna entered the classroom quickly and quietly. She didn't say anything to anyone as she threw her books down on a table and stared at the board. Immidiatly she knew what she had to do. She read the pages silently and then got ready to do the assignment. She was sure she could do the apple and the milk, but was a little worried about the sand.
She took out her wand and faced an apple. She smiled knowing this was the easy part. "Frue coluer incamos" she said loudly and fiercely. She had closed her eyes for a second and when she opened them again the apple was a healthy lime green. Not that she had any doubts but she couldn't help saying phew to herself when it was over.
Still gripping her wand tightly, she moved on to the water. Jenna was never extremely great in tranfiguration but in Grutins (where she transferred from) she had gotten slightly above average marks. She hesitated and then said in a sure voice, "Frue lactencious." Nothing happened. Jenna took another deep breathe and practically screamed "Frue lactencious!" It worked. She watched the clear liquid gain a thick white color. She smiled. Thank god I got that right. The last thing I need is to goof up on my first day.
She looked at the masive stone in front of her. I've never done this before. I think I can handle it though... She stared at the rock for a good two minutes before pointing her wand at it. She took a huge deep breathe and said loudly, "Manrelis uctamus!" Nothing happened. Oh well, I've just got to try harder. She took an even deeper breath and howled at the top of her voice "Manrelis uctamus!" Nothing happened again. Now she was getting a little discouraged. She looked around as saw a few people had already done it. I will make this work! This time, she didn't take a deep breath or speak any louder than normal. She said clearly, her eyes open, "Manrelis uctamus." She kept her wand pointed at it for a few seconds. Nothing was happening but she kept staring and pointing. After a few seconds of this, the stone gave a violent jerk and poof. It discentagrated into sand. Jenna let out a huge sigh of relief. She smiled at the sand, ran it through her fingers, and put her wand back into her pocket.
I could tell that you worked very hard, well done. However, the last spell is Minralis. Taken 18 pts.

Serenity new came into the class got a text book and sat down. She read the passage rather quickly then took out her wand. "Hmm,"she said thinking and imagining the apple and wanting it to change. "Frue coluer incamos,"she yelled and pointed at the apple, within seconds it changed green. Serenity sighed with relief. "Ok what next,"she said to herself while examing the glass of clear water thinking to herself that she wanted it to change to milk setting her drive to excel at this class she stared at it. "Frue lactensius," she yelled louder than before with more concentration since this was harder. Seconds later her clear water turned to milk. Alright she thought to herself what next. She thought this next would be much harder examing the stone on her desk. "Minralis uctamus," she yelled the loudest some of the rock turned while the other was still a hard rock. "Minralis uctamus," she said quieter but with more concentration, and the other half turned into sand.
I'm afraid the apple didn't shrink this time, but you made a great effort. Take 16 pts.

She had been sitting silently, but she wasn't sure how this was going to work. She took her wand over the apple slowly.
"Frue coluer incamos."
The apple change simply enough, but that didn't make her feel any better after she looked at it and it had a large bruise on one side.
"Minralis uctamus" She said, waving her wand over the stone. Sand poured off her desk and onto the floor. Blushing slightly, she cleaned the mess.
"Frue lactensius" She whispered, waver her wandover the glass. A strange smell filled the room, it had turned into milk, but is was very sour and old milk.
"oops..." She tryed to sink into her chair.
Nice work Xarian, 18 pts.

Post by Sylph on Aug 3, 2005 17:20:00 GMT
It was Sylph's third lesson of the day and she was still not in a good mood. The dark cloud that had been hanging over her head since she awoke had not cleared - even the throwing about of an innocent puffskein and an impromptu firework display had not cheered her. And now it was time for the toughest lesson going; transfiguration.
So far at MH, Sylph had not taken any transfiguration classes, and, more annoyingly, her mother had not been very good at the subject and thus had not been able to tutor her very far in it. This was one lesson where Sylph was at the same - low - level as the rest of the class. Even the textbook seemed to echo her thoughts with its first words. Possibly the most difficult course young witches and wizards can take during their school years, Transfiguration requires talent, intellect, common sense, and ample patience.
Sylph snorted quietly to herself in wry unamused laughter. Talent? Intellect? Common sense? Yes, she had all of those, but today was not a good day for patience, and that even if Sylph had been an even remotely tolerant or serene character in the first place. Still, there was work to be done, and better to do it than make the day worse than it already was by angering a teacher. She quickly read the parts of the text that she had been instructed to, flicking to the 'knowing the text' questions for good measure, and set to work.
Okay, she thought determinedly. Apple first. It's ductile - sort of - and in its raw form, which according to this book, should make it simpler. Sylph snorted again. What would be simpler was to use a colour-switching spell on the apple and then employ a shrinking charm - reductio would do - to achieve the desired effect. In fact, just to prove to herself that her way was better, Sylph did just that, turning the large red apple into a smaller bright green granny smith. Yummy. Looking up however, Sylph wondered if Professor Romani had seen. It would not get her any marks, that was for sure. Sighing in a frustrated manner, Sylph returned the apple to its original state, and turned her mind to the matter at hand.
Taking her wand once more, she pointed it at the apple, red and shiny as it was, and concentrated on what she wanted it to look like. A few green sparks flew from the end of her wand, but Sylph ignored them, so fierce was her concentration. Speaking the words Frue coluer incamos through gritted teeth, she watched as the apple shrank and turned slowly from red, through orange and yellow, and finally into a rosy green colour. She let out a breath she didn't know she had been holding. One down.
Next on the list was the glass of water. Quickly re-reading the text Sylph remembered what it had said about liquids at the molecular level, about the molecules flowing, joined by weaker bonds than found in solids. Therefore it should be easier for her to mold them to what she wanted, although she'd also have to change the elements themselves to do it. Sylph almost smiled, recalling her old chemistry lessons back in muggle schools. They were fun, especially when she actually got to make stuff; like a strange polymer compound that bounced and could stip paint just by been thrown at a wall. Now that was educational.
Pointing her wand at the glass in front of her, Sylph frowned and envisioned the water in front of her clouding over into milk. "Frue lactensius!" she hissed, and the water in the glass immediately began to swirl, some of it even slopping over the rim onto the desk. Sylph was not deterred. Keeping her wand steady, she spoke the words again and watched as the water became chalky white in colour and thickened ever so slightly. Removing her wand, Sylph peered at the new liquid. It wasn't milk, but it looked like it. Thinking that it wasn't a bad attempt Sylph sighed and turned to the final task.
Again, the easy way to do this one would be just to blast the thing, but again, that wasn’t what transfiguration was supposed to be about. This was a hard subject, but that just made Sylph want to do well all the more. Taking her wand for the final time, she pointed it with grim determination and concentrated hard. “Minralis uctamus”, she said firmly, and waited. Nothing happened. Frowning deeply in something that was almost – but not quite – a ferocious scowl, Sylph growled involuntarily from deep within her throat. “Minralis uctamus”, she tried again, and part of the rock crumbled into a fine pale coloured sand. On her third attempt, however, she succeeded.
Sighing for what seemed like the hundredth time that day, Sylph lay her wand down on the desk in front of her, and, for lack of anything better to do, began to flick through the text book again.
I greatly appreciate all your effort Sylph, and it has definitely paid off in your work! Take 20 pts.

Post by Professor Romani on Aug 3, 2005 18:16:40 GMT
Professor Romani had been caught up with the student whose stone that instead of turning to sand had begun to enlargen to the point that it had already gotten so heavy that it utterly smashed the desk it was on and still! It continued to grow! Romani was so caught up uttering spells to move students and desks away that she didn't have the time to address Miss Rainier's question. "Minralis finite incantatem! Recantedene!" The boulder quivered for a moment before gradually reducing back to its original size. With a few more spells, the desk rebuilt itself, the shattered glass and smashed apple regained their original forms. The pale teacher took a deep breath and nodded to the Hufflepuff still half up the nearby tree. "Carry on Mr. Redding."
Wiping a lock of hair away from her face she turned back to Ashlle with a rueful expression. "I'm very sorry Miss Rainier. Yes, I do drink liquids m'dear, perhaps I was mistaken in believing that your cordial was alcoholic? You see, I'm afraid that all I've come across of such a thing carried alcohol. Considering my .... condition, I must be quite wary of such a thing. And do not worry about an essay. Since it is my first class, I decided that I'd rather not trouble you with an essay right off. I'd rather much grade you all on your efforts." She smiled once again and went on her rounds about the classroom.
After seeing everyone's results she nodded again and wrote on the chalkboard: CLASS DISMISSED!
{{This class is now closed}}
