When Professor Romani returned to her classroom for the first time, she was incredibly surprised that her room was still magicked to appear as realistic as the nature outside, but without her presence, the magic had become to waste away. The willow tree at the back corner of the room had died, its skeletal limbs drooping along the brown, dry ground. The swing still remained, gently swinging back and forth, somehow managing to be more depressing than the dead overgrowth that surrounded everything. The mountains in the distance were shrouded in a large, angry looking storm cloud that covered the sky, turning it gray, green, and yellow. The once happily bubbling brook that ran behind her desk had long since dried up, becoming a bed of parched dirt and rubble. Astraea Romani took all this in mutely before shutting her eyes painfully and leaning her slight frame against the door. Taking a few deep breaths, her hand flew to her throat as she tried to recover from the desolateness that greeted her. After a brief moment, she straightened herself and walked farther into the middle of the room and accepted what her absence had caused. Raising a hand in front of her a curtain of life seemed to decend upon the room. The yellow sky turned a bright, intense blue, just shades lighter than her own sapphire eyes. The grass returned to green, snow capped the mountains in the distance, water began to flow down the brook, and the willow tree straightened with a groan. Mushrooms and wildflowers popped up randomly about the room, and the once broken and disturbed wooden desks arranged themselves once again into straight rows. Romani exhaled a sigh of relief and smiled as she looked about her now familiar room. She was glad that she had come back to it before her students saw what sort of state the room had been in. The pallid teacher always insisted on Transfiguring her room in way that hopefully inspired her students and created a setting for them that was serene and comfortable to be in. Often the students would just seat themselves on the soft grass in the shade beneath a tree, swing beneath the willow, dip their feet into the brook or just lay in the sun while reading their text book or writing their homework. However today, she decided to get right into things, dismissing any written work and addressing one of the first things that must be understood in Transfiguration, complexity. As soon as her students began to filter in, she made sure to note the expressions on their face. Rewarded with looks of pleasant surprise, delight, awe, and remembrance from her returning students, Romani felt herself beam. The Professor, in her white robes, utterly white long hair, and almost equally pallid skin, stood out in the golden sunlight as she stood next to her desk, determined to resist the exhaustion that pulled at her. "Hello class, for those that don't know me, I am Professor Romani and welcome to Transfiguration! Today, I'd like to jump right into things and start immediately." With a wave of her hand, three items appeared on each of their desks: an apple, a glass of water, and a small stone. "The objects before you are made of different complexities: ductile, fluid, and solid. I'd like for you to read The Basics in the textbook and attempt to change the shape and color of each object." Turning, she wrote on the blackboard the directions for each shape. "At this stage, the simplest, you're going to merely get a taste of what complex objects feel like when transfigurting. I've just written your directions, followed by the incantation for each spell." ~Change large, red apple into small, green apple. Frue coluer incamos ~Make clear water into milk. Frue lactensius ~Stone into sand.Minralis uctamus"First however, please take a book from my desk, write your name in it, and read The Essentials under Home, and The Basics before starting." www.freewebs.com/professorromani/index.htm(I apologize everyone, I had forgotten to also post the link )

Usually when a teacher told Ashlle to do something, the something was what Ashlle did, straight away. But today was different. Ashlle had seen her very old Transfiguration Teacher roaming the halls and had decided to welcome her back with a bit of a flare.
"Professor, These are for you" she said and handed her a flower arrangement of white lily's pale pink roses and a single thousand petaled lotus that had cast Ashlle a bundle to have imported. "The lily's symbolize your beauty, the roses your sweetness, and the Lotus is the rare thousand petaled kind. It will bring you longer life and everlasting energy."
Then she took a red cordial out of her robe pocket. "and this is Young Strawberry cordial. It won't do anything but make a good drink at mealtime." She bowed. "I hope you will be my teacher for all my years here and see me graduate."
It was clear that something about Professor Romani has stirred Ashlle's heart like nothing else.

Jade walked into the classroom. She went up to Professor Romani's desk. "Hey Professor Romani, I'm Jade Greenwood,"Jade said while taking a seat, with a text book. She opened the book and began to read.

Sighing, the gryffindor student lightly tapped her fingers on her desk while she listened to the instructions of the Transfiguration teacher. Figuring that it might be a while before she actually had to concentrate on the spellcasting, she allowed her mind to wander a little bit during the reading.

Professor Romani looked at the beautiful bouquet held out to her and gasped. "Oh Ashlle, they're gorgeous!" She gingerly held the flowers and closed her eyes as she inhaled the wonderful perfume, letting the scent of the blossoms fill her senses until she could almost taste it. Opening her sapphire eyes, they glittered as they fixed upon her pupil. "Thank you so much Miss Rainier, it's very thoughtful and kind of you." Opening her pale arms, she enveloped the girl in a hug.
"Sculpturous vaiceo" The glass of water on her desk suddenly began to transfigure into a crystal vase to hold her flowers. Placing the cordial ruefully back into her hands, she graciously thanked Ashlle again but had to refuse the cordial. "I'm sorry Ashlle, but I'm afraid that I don't drink, but I thank you very much for the gift and the thought." Her entire face beamed with warmth and a bit of color managed its way into her pallid face. She turned her head slightly to study the lotus, thinking back to what Ashlle had said. "It will bring you longer life and everlasting energy."
Mentally, Romani wondered if it was obvious that she wasn't exactly the most healthy person in the world. Her lack of health had nearly claimed her 6 times in her life. When Romani was 4 years old, she had nearly died. When she was 7, she nearly died, 13, 15, 20, and 23, she had near death experiences. Her health was as fragile and brittle as the snowflake she resembled in pallid complexion. Yet there was a core of pure power and energy within her that somehow kept her going. Every dip in health would take her so finely to the line that crossed over to the world of the dead, that it almost seemed like a game of dare. How far can we go this time, Astraea?
"Longer life and everlasting energy..." She murmured to herself.
She sat down at her desk and watched as the names written in the textbooks magically appeared on the parchment in front of her, making sure that each student was accounted for. Professor smiled warmly at Jade, "Nice to meet you Jade."
Noticing that a few people were distracted, she raised her soft voice and announced that she would be walking about the room and check upon their progress in five minutes.

Why, why. why?, thought Forgoil as he ran to the Transfiguration classroom. This was the third class he had been late for and he was really starting to become frustrated with himself. He could do much better than this and be on time or early, but it seemed he just didn't have the energy.
At the door of the class, Forgoil entered to see the professor transform a glass of water into a crystal vase. Amazed, he stared for awhile, but remembering he was late, he walked up to the teacher's desk and picked up a text book, wrote his name in it, and took a seat. Looking up on the board, Forgoil observed the lesson for today and the spells that would be used. Pulling out his wand, Forgoil began to practice saying the spells before doing them so that he would have a better chance of casting the spells correctly and he could appease the professor's possible displeasure at his tardiness

Mesutashi was sitting back at her desk after having recovered a book from the front. She wrote her name in it and the flipped to the pages she needed to read. 'I hope I do better in this Transfiguration class than I did in my old school's sad excuse for one...' She then read the pages and sat silently absorbing the information. She then realized she'd read this before. 'Hmm... odd... I don't remember ever being in this class... but I've read those exact words and I don't mean this is dèja vu...perhaps my old school used the same text book.' She felt a bit queasy, but went on with the assignment.
She looked at the apple, glass of water, and stone on her desk. 'Water should be the hardest to transform...'
Moving the apple slightly away from the rest she took a deep breath and held her wand pointed it. "Frue coluer incamos." she sad as she imagined the red apple as small and green. It shifted for a while before turning a bright green and shrinking, but it still did what it was supposed to do. She smiled slightly.
She then moved on to the next object. It was the stone. Setting it off to the side she pointed her wand at it as well. "Minralis uctamus." She said it firmly, imagined sand... but nothing happened. "Minralis Uctamus." she focused more and this time half the rock became sand, but the other side stubbornly refused to do anything. She sighed and decided she'd come back to it after dealing with the water.
She wasted no time but pointed and spoke, "Frue lactensius." She reached out through her wand with her own magic and took in all the water. It writhed in the cup and Mesu feared it might spill, but she focused as best she could and it became a milky white color. She wasn't sure if it really was milk, but it looked it.
She then turned back to the stubborn half of stone still on her desk. She grimaced at it. "Minralis Uctamus!" she said forcefully. Instead of the spell changing it though she could see shadows covering it and then they condensed it to mostly dust. She sighed and put her head down on the desk which shook the dust and made tendrils of it fly about.
A very good effort Mesutashi, you tried very hard and that's exactly what I'm looking for in this class, especially this assignment in particular. I looked for people who gave a real effort. Take 18 points.

The Professor smiled at Lexy and handed her a Transfiguration book (the link at the bottom of my first post and in my signature). "I'd like for you to read the first page as well as the chapter marked 'The Basics.' After that, turn your attention to the three items on your desk and transfigure them into the objects written in red on the board; the large red apple into a small green apple, clear water into milk, and the stone into sand. The incantations are also written on the board. If you still have problems, come see me again."
[NOTE: I deleted the posts that did not pertain to this class.]

(thank you i think i got it ) lexy sat down at her seat after getting her book she opened to the pages insructed and read them both then she put the book under her desk and stared at the apple for about five min. lexy stopped stareing at the apple and pictured a smaller green apple and with a wave of her wand and just as she fished chanting *Frue coluer incamos* the apple changed held the color and size for a moment and started flicking back and forth she stared at it with utter fasanation finally it rested its shape on green and small lexy let out a sigh. she thought that the water to milk would be harder so lexy did the rock next it was a medium sized rock that looked like someone had tried to shape it into a head but failed she studied it one side of the rock looked more solied than the other so lexy thought she would have to concentrate more on that side she closed her eyes pictured the rock falling into sand she focused more on the solid side but still on the other *minralis uctamus*she forcefully ~poof~ in an explosion of dust lexy coughed out the snd in her mouth ~plah~she spat while wipeing sand off her mouth i hate sand lexy thought wait! sand! she said alound under her breath i did it! she moved the sand over a tad and put the water in front of her. she did the same thing sha had done with all the other things study picture chant *Frue lactensius* for a fraction of a seconed the water was gone then milk came pouring out of her wand supriesed to do it in one try lexy stood up quickly all most spilling the milk and sand she took them up to professor romani

Lynette flipped the book open and leaned foward in her seat, scribbling notes about the assignment on her wrist. She didn't feel particularly worried or daunted by the job at hand. Transfiguration had always been an interesting class to her. Watching things transform before your eyes just ad so much underlying meaning.
Save the easiest for last, Lynette reminded herself, passing over the apple and picking up the stone. She stared at it a moment, skimmed the textbook again, then focused soley on the slippery little stone. She pulled the image into her head and tried to mold it. But her logic couldn't wrap around it. You can't mold stone, she thought. You...scrape it.
Focusing harder, she focused on grating the stone down into little fragments of sand. Concentrating so hard, she even ground her teeth a little to coinside with the grinding of the stone. "Minralis uctamus," she mumbled.
When she opened hr eyes, instead of a rock there was a little heap of sand. It had a few chunks in it still, but Lynette felt generally proud of her effort.
She paused. What next? She looked down at the water and the apple.
Very nice, Lynette. Take 6 points for the sand.

Post by Teagan on Jun 29, 2005 23:22:14 GMT
Teagan quietly walked in the classroom, and sat somewhere in the front row. The classroom itself was quite naturalistic. Now, the room looked like something she had expected from a care of magical creatures teacher, not a transfiguration teacher. Even though it was very different, it still wasn't as odd as what their charms classroom had turned into; charms became a realistic Candy Land. Teagan's expression remained as if the classroom was the same as the others, and wasted no time sitting down and tiredly looking ahead. She noticed Ashlle giving flowers, and something else to their teacher, a woman with lovely white hair. ...Do they know each other? Teagan pondered after nearly a minute of curiosity, but other students walked in and Professor Romani wasted no time in giving her students their first assignment of her transfiguration class.
Before Teagan had a chance to do much else, class began, and the Professor Romani wasted no time giving them their first assignment.
Joy, Teagan sarcastically muttered to herself. Then, she silently walked over, slipped a book of of her teacher's pile, and made her graceful return to her average student desk. On the way back, Teagan happened to glance around the room. She noticed a handsome brown-haired boy with violet eyes fast at work. He was also wearing Ravenclaw robes. After only a few seconds, of thought, Teagan finally made it back to her seat, and filled her name in the label. She quickly began reading while trying to memorize most of the text they had been assigned immediately after her name was written.
After reading, Teagan's blood-colored eyes scanned around the room once more. It seemed that other students had already begun the assignment, but some were still finishing their light reading. All the spells they were supposed to use in order to manipulate the objects were ones that Teagan had used before.
She deftly lifted her wand, and began to alter the ductile item, the apple, first. With a simple, "Frue coluer incamos," it began to change. With a steady focus, the apple became a brown because of the mixture of red and green pigment before it finished itself as bright green color instead of a darker one. At the same time, the organism shrunk, but remained unwrinkled. After her first five-second experiment, Teagan moved onto the next object.
"Frue lactensius." The water became a delicious, white shade. A simple wonder popped into Teagan's focused mind. I wonder why these first two things involve food and drink? She easily ignored it.
Now, came the most complicated spell. "Minralis uctamus," Teagan's volume was low, but clear. Her soft voice was only slightly louder than her earlier transfigurations, but it was still smooth and peaceful. After a few seconds, the stone didn't do anything. Just as Teagan was about to quit and try again, the rock started to grain itself into small, dark pieces which soon became a tender sand. Teagan relaxed, and calmly set her wand down in front of her. She looked to the syllabus, and read that they were doing "Tailor Work." Interesting name... Teagan turned back to the chapter they were working on, and, having nothing else to do, began to re-read it.
Great Work Teagan, the apple was beautiful. You've earned 20 pts.

Lynette's eyes fell onto the glass of water. She tugged it across her desk to her and stared at the moving substance for a long moment. She reread her textbook for a third time.
She let her eyes flutter shut as she pictured the glass of water in her mind. She then tried to picture milk right beside it. How can you logically change substances? With rock you can scrape it down, fruit is so basic, but how do you change water? She scrunched her logic thinking down into a little ball and pictured pouring the milk into the water cup. "Frue lactensius," she whispered.
When she opened her eyes, her liquid had turned to the color off white. She tentatively dipped her finger into it. It felt slightly soup, but definitely milky as well. She sighed in relief.
One more to go, she reminded herself with a smile.
Continue up the great effort, another 6 pts.

Forgoil had finished reading the text from the book and had practiced the incantations silently until he felt he had a grasp on them. Turning to the three objects, he decided to transfigure the apple first, seeing how it was the most ductile of the three. He placed the large, red apple in front of him and envisioned it shrinking and becoming green. Once he had this image in his head and wand in his hand, he then said the spell in a calm voice,"Frue coluer incamos." At first, nothing happened, but the apple slowly begin to shrink and turn green. It had stopped at a size Forgoil thought was small enough, and he moved on the the next object.
He had read in the textbook that liquids were one of the harder things to transfigure, so he decided to transfigure the rock into sand. In his mind's eye, he pictured the rock breaking into small pieces, those pieces breaking into smaller ones and continued this process until in his mind he saw many grains of sand. He said, "Minralis uctamus." and slowly the stone begin to break apart and the pieces kept dividing. It wasn't until a minute later that the pieces became grains of sand.'Hmm,' thought Forgoil,'I think I need to get this one to go faster the next time I work on this spell.'
The final object that needed to transfigured was the glass of water. This one would take some time. Forgoil imaged himself touching each particle of the water and changing it into milk. After doing this, he said,"Frue lactensius." The clear water began to churn, but didn't turn the white color that milk is prone to be; it had turned into a sickly gray. Repeating the spell again, the gray liquid turned a bit lighter in color. Forgoil repeated the spell for three more times until the liquid had turned to white. He wasn't sure it was milk, but he hoped he had done it correctly.
Very good Forgoil, I admire your persistency, take 20pts

Ashlle was confused. "What do you mean you don't drink? You mean like nothing? No liquid at all?" Ashlle had always been told that cordial was nonalcoholic. "Please forgive me" she said bowing. "I was unaware." Then she took a book back to her desk and began to read up on the assignment.
Upon reaching the written part of the assignment Ashlle raised her hand. " Professor, You didn't tell us about this essay. Is it included or is it to be done for homework?"
