Thanks to all who have already put your work in. Class closes on the 25th of February, Aus EST Afternoon.
Slowly unwinding herself as she saw students approaching, Katrine smiled warmly, spiking up her multicolored hair. What looked like a small docile and very beautiful doll sat on her shoulder; Vipera, who usually hung there, was lazing in the sun, trying to warm up her blood.
As she watched the students seat them selves on the grass in front of her, then smiled. “Morning Class, trust you all had a good Christmas.” Mumbled replies in varying enthusiasm were heard.
“Good good, but now we’ve got to get back to working.” She pointed to the small creature on her shoulder, “Anyone who attended my last class should be able to tell me what this is?
“This term, however, I hope to start doing some more interesting creatures. With any luck in a few lessons time we will have Merpeople and Werewolves.” She beamed positively taking the small fairy off her shoulder and handing in to a girl in the front.
“Please open your textbook and read the chapter on Augureys. Now the a good deal of the birds were slaughtered as to avoid hearing their deathly cry. I would like at least two paragraphs on other situations were creatures have been persecuted likewise. The creatures may be magic or others. If there are no questions, please begin.”<br>

Vixen had been unable to attend the two previous lessons of Care of Magical Creatures, much to her won dismay. Caring for Magical Creatures, or any creatures really, was her deepest passion.
Her textbook was soon open, and her quill in her hand. She was a fast reader, and was soon writing what she knew about other persecuted creatures.
In the past many creatures have been treated killed for their skins or because they were suspected of causing deaths. The results have been devastating on the populations.
As well as the Augurey being slaughtered so that it's song would not be heard, Moke's have been killed for the shrinking properties of their skin, and the Snidget suffered a devastating blow as a ball in quidditch before it was replaced by the snitch.
In non-magical creatures, the Tasmanian tiger, or Thylacine, was persecuted to extinction by farmers because it was (wrongly) believed to be killing the livestock, and a bounty was placed upon it. Wolves and foxes have also been persecuted for stealing meat from humans, but not to extinction yet.
Vixen Kay, Slytherin 17/20
Her paper written, Vixen handed it in, and turned to look around the room she had finally reached.
She was enamoured by the simple fact that she was in Care of Magical Creatures, and would be given the oppertunity to meet so many.

Demi walked nervously into her first ever lesson at MH. She sat down at the back of the room; dropping her bags to the floor after rumaging in them to find her books, quill and parchment.
She sat behind her desk, with her legs underneath her so that she could prop herself up to see, since she was only small.
Demi leant forward in her seat and listened carefully as Prof. Leaves introduced the lesson and then set the work. As soon as the prof. finished talking Demi opened her book and started to read; her quill held in her right hand she began to write her answer absent mindedly...
Augery's are only one of many species of creatures who have been persecuted through the many centuries.
The beautiful magical creature known as the 'Purdy' was hunted until their extinction as their blood had qualities which could make even the ugliest of beings be exquisite. Another magical creature that has been persecuted is the 'Colapius' which fed on feathers from magical birds; wizards believed that the Colapius was feeding upon the feathers in order to improve their own magical abilities and so most of the species was wiped out, however it was then realised that the Colapiuses were only feeding upon the feathers so that they would have the strength to raise their young safely as they were prey for many creatures.
Non-magical creatures have also been persecuted, and nearly wiped out by muggles. Elephant's tusks are made from ivory; and this is a rare material in the muggle world. Whole hurds of Elephants were killed just so the hunts men could provide the ivory to rich people for large sums of money. The Elephants were not killed in a humane way, and their ivory was used for unnecessary items such as broches. Another non-magical creature that the muggles have nearly wiped out is the turtle. Turtles live in the sea but lays their eggs on land. Some years ago a trend started in which turtle soup became popular; so these magnificant animals were hunted for food. Originally foxes were hunted as they disruptive to farmers as the foxes would hunt their livestock. However fox hunting became a sport and so now groups of men on horses with hound dogs go out and purposely look for foxes so that the dogs can wrip them to shreads.
In my opinion all the examples of creatures that have been persecuted have been innocent and have not deserved to die such awful deaths. In my opinion we, muggles, witches and wizards, quite often presume that a creature is doing wrong if we do not understand it. Or that just because we have more power that we can do whatever we like with the creatures that live with us on our planet. We should all think about our actions instead of rushing in and destroying beautiful species of creatures that we will miss once they are gone.
Demi Grey, Ravenclaw
19/20, and thats fine. I admire your creativity
Once Demi had finished she blew the ink so that it would not smudge, then rolled it up, walked to the front of the class and handed it in.
Then she returned to her seat, packed her things away, and sat quietly as she waited for the lesson to be dismissed.
ooc: I don't know if we were allowed to make up magical creatures...but I didn't know any so I did...if its wrong I will change it.

After listening and writing notes at the same time, Carmen shoved her pencil case away from her so she’d have more arm room, and began thinking of various non magical animals that she knew of that were endangered by humans with textbook in hand. The list just went on and on in her mind, she loved studying animals before she came to England, especially endangered ones.
Her hand began transferring thoughts into writing as she skimmed through the animals.
The largest form of cat known to man, tigers live in Asia in a variety of habitats: from the tropical evergreen and deciduous forests of southern Asia to the coniferous, scrub oak, and birch woodlands of Siberia. Sadly, these majestic creatures are highly endangered. They have been hunted for centuries by man. 100 years ago there used to be eight different subspecies of tigers with over 100,000 of them in the world. Now, due to humans, there are only 5 different subspecies with less than 7000 tigers in the world. The reasons they have been killed off at such a large account are; poaching (for their fur {decoration}, bones {medicine beliefs} and meat) and deforestation.
Another endangered animal is the Frantell; an African bird with extremely bright and vivid plumage. During the centuries Frantells have long been hunted for their feathers for hat decorations, quills and other such decorations around the house. Near the brink of exstinction, these loud birds are protected from poachers now, and people must have a licence to have them, and even then it must be for safe purposes, such as being in a zoo, or for scientific purposes. They are prohibited as pets. Now they are beginning to up their numbers from an odd 150 birds to 200 over the last centurie.
~Carmen Thompson, Hufflepuff 18/20 When it came to magical creatures, she was stumped. But moments after she paused and though, Carmen remembered reading in the daily prophet that a bird was discovered in a house illegally being kept. Once the paper was finished, she stood from her seat and placed it in front of the professor, then headed back to her desk, watching the other students finish up. Sitting back down, she put her pencil case away and twiddled her thumbs, waiting for the professor to say the ok to leave.

Post by Tobias on Jan 28, 2005 21:53:07 GMT
Tobias had just gotten to class, this being his first class in Mh he was exicted. This slightly lessed when she spoke on the Werewolf matter. He ignored it and shoke it off then began to pay attention to the rest of the speach by the professor. He opened his book and read up on the section about the Augurey. He re read it twice to be sure then looked at the peace of parchment
Tobias licked the tip of his feather pen and then dunked it into the ink bottle so as to begin writing. The ink was red and gave the odd impression of being blood
Tobias Collins, Ravenclaw 6th year
Many creatures have suffered from human misunderstandins or their cruel and unforgiving nature. Many animal magical and non magical suffer the same.
Take for example the 'DoDo bird' from america, this bird was large and rather stupid when it came to humans, this bird had never had a natural enemy before so they had lost the ability to fly, as well as they would go right up to the Humans how had happened upon them. The hunters seeing this behavoir they quickly started to bash the poor creatures on the head. This became a very 'fun' sport for them to pass their time with, unfortinatly for the 'DoDo' this sport whiped them all out.
Another creature whiped from the lands, is the wolf of Europe. These creatures where whipped out due to the belief that all wolves where werewolves, or that they were man eatting beast that would as soon as kill you as look at you, which is a falsehood. Wolves are more afraid of humans then humans should be of them, but their untamed nature and pride cost the noble wolves of Europe their lives. It is a pitty that muggle and Wizards alike killed Wolves because they feared them being werewolves, they died souly for being wolves, such a pitty and such a waste, their noble spirits will be missed from our lands
I am sorry to speak so much on the wolves, but i have my own feels on this matter. Another speices that Humans tende to try to whip out is the Shark, once believed to be mindless killing machines they were killed by the hundreds in the past resent years. Worst yet them some fishermen killing this noble hunter they would catght them for thier fins then let the shark go free, unfortanately a shark without his dorsal fin can not stay upright and they soon drown.
Also there are the noble mammals of the sea ' the whale' these creatures where nearly whipped from our oceans due to the use of their fat for fuel. It is a pitty to know that humans can kill such creatures without so much as thinking of the creatures. It was only due to a group of muggles that saved these noble beast our children and our children's children.
Werewolves have been hunted as well, this is so that they can not harm others, which i will say it not a bad reason but with the invention of the Wolfsbane Potion they have become harmless wolves each full moon. Unfortantly some people believe that the potion will not work for long and they still hunt these people, which is what they are people, what has the human race become that we now hunt our own. 18/20
His hand was shaking at the end of his paper. He put the bottle of ink away and dried the paper with a spell. As he roleld it up and nodded to those who had finished before him. He lay the paper on the Professors desk "Thank you for the wonderful lession Professor."
