Eden was pacing behind the desk when the students filed in. Glancing up, he stopped and smiled. "Good day all. I trust you are all ready for the test." he yelled. All of the students looked bewildered. "Oh yes, I forgot, this is sort of a pop test if you will. Well, if you have been paying attention, you should pass easily." he added. "Oh! And also, the essay should be more than 4 sentences, the questions are worth 1 point and the essay is worth 10!" he said, smiling as he passed out the textbooks. www.freewebs.com/professoreden/

A surprise test? Eleanor shuddered - they really were terrible things, weren't they? She was slightly confident in her abilities to do well on the sudden, inexplicably THERE piece of parchment on her desk. Carefully taking out a quill and a well of ink with shaking hands, she began by slowly writing her name in meticulous handwriting at the top. There. Now...the questions. She swallowed to soothe her sore throat (winter was a horrible time for her immune system) and began to bravely work on the rest.
Eleanor Sel'shea Hufflepuff Exam 1
1. What is the Mandrake Potion used for? The Draught of the Mandrake is used to revive those who have been Petrified.
2. What should you do if a Tentacula wraps it's vine around you when it's teething? Stay calm and give it a firm slap. That should make it back off enough for you to move away.
3. What do you have to do to a Mandrake before you put it into your potion? Pull them out of their pots and dice them.
4. What is another name for the Mandrake and the Mandrake Potion? Mandragora is another name for the Mandrake, and the Potion also goes by "Draught of the Mandrake", as I have stated before.
5. How long does it take to prepare the Mandrake Potion? Preparation time is only half an hour.
So far, so good...Eleanor steeled herself before looking at the True or False section. Erp...
True or False
6. Even when the Mandrake is young, it can kill you. False - it will only knock you out for several hours.
7. You must stir the Potion for exactly 43 times. True
8. It takes 2 tbl. of powdered dragon horn to brew the potion. False - only one.
9. There are 6 pairs of dragonfly wings in the potion. False - four.
10. You should wear earmuffs before coming near a Mandrake False - you only need them if the Mandrakes will be above ground. IF you are planning to uproot them/pick them, then it is true - but to simply approach one while it is underground, you do not need them. After you all began to take the test, I relized that this answer couldn't have been both true or false, so I gave it to ya.
Essay:
Explain how to brew the potion. Doesn't have to be in extestive detail, but must be at least one paragraph long.
After gathering your ingredients, you should put your goggles on before starting the potion, of course. Turn on your cauldron and heat it to two hundred and fifty degrees, stirring briefly before adding the two Stir water in cauldron then add two of your sliced daisy roots and let it boil for precisely two minutes before adding two rat spleens. It should sit for some time before you add one tablespoon of the powdered dragon fang, increasing the heat to five hundred degrees afterwards. The leech juice and four pairs of dragonfly wings are next, shortly afterwards adding your final daisy root and the skinned shrivelfig. Your diced Mandrake should be added afterwards, stirred exactly forty-three times. After you have stirred (and successfully kept count), let the potion sit for ten minutes before pouring some into a flask for grading.
She felt it had all gone relatively well, despite the apprehension. The essay was a bit of a stretch...but it all looked right to her. Handing in her paper with a small smile, the Hufflepuff started back to her seat to worry over if she had answered some of the trickier questions right.
Great work Ms. Sel'shea!! Great detail on the potion and you got the questions all correct. 20/20
