Professor Eve Astoria stood behind her desk, infront of her class. This was her first lesson and hoping all went well, it shouldn't be her last.
"Good Morning Class," she begun. "I am Professor Eve Astoria, your new Astrology teacher." She walked around to the front of the desk and leant back upon it. "I am not a strict teacher, unless I have to be. We are going to have some fun this year as I will show you some things you have learnt before and hopefully some new and interesting things to you." She smiled.
"Well, we'd better get on with it then! I trust you all have your text books? Open them to page 4 and please read the first two chapters - 'Astrology and Constellations' and 'Zodiac Signs.' Once you have done this I would please like you to complete the work I will now write on the board."
Professor Astoria removed her wand from her robe pocket and flicked it at the blackboard. A piece of chalk lifted from the table and began to write slowly on the board.
On a piece of C3 size parchment, please give the difference between Astrology and Astronomy. From the table in chapter 2, give the zodiac sign you would have had if you lived 3,000 years ago and then find out the modern-day zodiac sign that corresponds to your date of birth and the description of the personality that goes with it. Explain how you agree/disagree with these descriptions.
Also, for extra credit, please feel free to create a Mnemonic for the order of the planets from the Sun. (Be as creative as you like, but make sure you will remember them this way!)
"I would like these to be handed in by the end of the lesson for marking." Professor Astoria said as she settled behind her desk and picked up her cup of tea and watched the class opening their books.

An unusual attendance was noted in class that day. The presence of the Head Boy and Ravenclaw student, Kezaa Krushiev, whom had not attended class in a long, long while. He had noticed this class on the curriculum earlier, and he knew he had to at least attend, if nothing else. He had quite a facination with the heavens, and he felt a pressing urge to learn more of them. He flipped through the pages of his book, quickly finding the answers to her first question. He wrote them neatly on his parchment, his brows furrowing in concentration as he wrote. He briefly paused to blow his golden bangs from the front of his eyes after a few minutes of writing, then thumbed through his pages and began again. Astrology- the study of celestial bodies (planets, moons) and their postions through out solar systems. These studies dealve into how they affect certain events on the Earth, whether it pretains to the movement of tides or the shifting of plates in the crust. Its also influences certain human and animal cultures.
Astronomy- A more complex study of the stars, pretaining to the study of energy and other base forms of matter such as the emination of plasma in space (stars) and even black holes.
(OOC) I'm unsure where I can find zodiac signs, let alone how to display them. Could you answer my PM regarding that and let me fix this before you grade it?

Well, this was a new one! Eleanor had taken Astronomy classes before, but had never been privy to a class devoted solely to the subjetct of Astrology. Hoping that it would be interesting, the Hufflepuff seated herself near the front before opening her book. The book was actually quite interesting - not all facts and memorization as she might have guessed. These were things that actually pertained to her, not just things she was expected to learn about because it might be important somewhere down the line. She definitely believed that Professor Astoria would teach a great class. Keeping the large grin on her face from spreading into a small laugh with only a margin of success, the girl began to write.
Eleanor Sel'shea Hufflepuff House Astrology
Astronomy is more scientific while Astrology deals more with our everyday personalities and events. The former studies how and when the movements occur, rather than focusing more on the psychological aspects and slight Divination crossovers that occur in Astrology, also excluding much interesting folklore, legend, and myth.
It seems I would have been a Leo three thousand years ago, but today I am classified as a Virgo. I think I agree much more with the Virgo aspects than the Leo, seeing as I don't particularly covet material goods. But I can see how Leo could also be correct - I do tend to get a bit ahead of myself, wanting to do things my way once I get started on something. Overall, I believe that Virgo classifies more of the things present in myself: I always need to plan things out, and tend to get irritated if things aren't just right in my work.

Eleanor had to give herself a small smile at the Mnemonic she had created for the planets, but felt that she had done a very good job with the whole thing. Standing quietly in case other students were still at work on their own assignments, she handed the parchment to Professor Astoria confidently. Sometimes she just felt as if she had done the best job possible...going back to her seat to read a bit more from her library book, the girl wondered if they would be discussing anything in class that day.
[glow=yred,2,300]20/20 ~ A very good explanation and a good detailed analysis of your personality against the zodiac. Good mnemonic - it would sure stick in my mind if I didn't already have one in there![/glow]

Mordecai was very excited to participate in as many classes as possible in his first year at Hogwarts. He was a very quiet student and didnt make many friends yet. Being a ravenclaw, he was always eager to start his assignments.
Astronomy and astrology:Astronomy is how the universe works rather than planetary movements and how it affects our everyday lives.
From my understanding of the textbook, i am currently a CAPRICORN and three thousand years ago i was Sagittarius. I believe that both fit me extremely well. I have a tendency to be rather stubborn and i also sometimes say more than i should and think to much about it afterwards. I often set very high standards for myself which is a sign of Capricorn. If i had to chose one i would most likely pick my current Zodiac sign because i feel it is more specific to my personalitys faults and benefits.

After spending a lot of time doing the extra credit Mordecai is very proud of himself and hopes his house recieves credit for his hard work. He walks up to the desk and hands his parchment to the teacher.
[glow=red,2,300]18/20 ~ A good mnemonic and explanation of how your zodiac reflects you. I would have liked to see a clearer description of the differences between Astrology and Astronomy. [/glow]

[glow=red,2,300]0/20 ~ I will not allow any copying of work in this class, which is what I am seeing. You have not even answered one question in any detail at all.
I am going to take 20 points from Slytherin for this and I am suggesting that you should take part in the up coming Role-Playing classes as you clearly need to be taught how to spell.[/glow]

[glow=red,2,300]Well Astrology in simplest terms is the study of the movements and positions of the sun, moon, planets and starsand the skill of describing the expected effect that these are believed to have on the character and behaviour of humans. As for Astronomy, it's a scientific study of the universe and of objects which exist naturally in space, such as the moon, the sun, planets and stars. This aspect of science deals with the working of the universe rather than how the planetary movements affect everyday lives. [/glow]
[glow=green,2,300] Three thousand years ago I would of been a Gemini, today I am a Taurus. I have to say I agree with both, because I have been told I'm very loyal & creativity. I love writing too, so there you go, I always come up with new ideas. I love learning, so I agree mostly with Gemini.
Listed, in order of distance form the Sun, they are:[/glow]
[glow=purple,2,300]Mercury [/glow] [glow=blue,2,300] Venus [/glow] [glow=green,2,300]Earth [/glow] [glow=yellow,2,300]Mars [/glow] [glow=orange,2,300]Jupiter [/glow] [glow=red,2,300]Saturn [/glow] [glow=brown,2,300] Uranus [/glow] [glow=pink,2,300]Neptune [/glow] [glow=grey,2,300]Pluto[/glow]

Chisaki Niigata seated herself after arriving partially late and began to flip through her textbook, glancing up at the board, until she had found the correct page.
Astronomy, unlike Astrology, is a science based on planets, stars, and other celestial bodies; and how the movement of planets effect the earth, not the daily lives of the people on earth.
While, Astrology is a theoretic study that looks at our universe in a more "spiritual" and philosophical way. This study is not always completely precise.
3,000 years ago, I believe my zodiac sign would have been Capricorn. And, at the moment, I am a Capricorn, born on Janurary 19, the day before this constellation is no longer connected with the earth and the sun.
My personality description (stubborn, over-thinker, and posesses a tendency to worry too much) actually hit me spot on. I was surprised that there weren't any incorrect theories about me.
-Mary -Vents -Everything -Mutely -Just -So -Ureka -Naps -Peacefully
[glow=red,2,300]17 / 20 ~ Well done! Your mnemonic is very good - I think I may have to use that one in future! Your definitions of astrology and astronomy are good. I would have like to have seen a bit more of an in-depth description of your personalities, like maybe an example of one of these traits.[/glow]

The shy Hufflepuff prefect sighed happily as she skimmed the assignment briefly before starting. Astronomy had always been one of her favorite subjects and she managed to do fairly well in it (well, much better than she usually did in potions) Her mother always used to say that if you were going to do something, you had might as well as be pretty damn good at it.
Removing a size C3 piece of parchment and a elegant quill from her bag, she began to scribble away.
Astrology is the study of the movements and positions of the sun, moon and other celestial objects. It is also the art of describing the effects that these objects cast down upon human beings.
Astronomy, meanwhile, seems to be much more scientific than Astrology. It is more concerned with how the planets and such move around rather than what kind of changes they cause in our everyday lives.
If I had lived 3,000 years ago, I would be a Gemini. My modern day zodiac sign is Cancer.
Personally, I think that I am a mix of both of these two zodiac signs. Gemini seems to describe the creativity in my life, especially my inclination towards anything written. That captures my more intellectual side, while Cancer captures the personal side in my life. I really am a peacemaker, and I hate to see other people in pain- even if I don't really like them. Any kind of suffering really pulls at my heart. Sometimes I'll admit that my own opinions and emotions get buried while trying to give other people a helping hand.

Feeling a little nervous but exicted about what she had just completed, she quickly wrote her name on the top of the paper and turned it in.
[glow=red,2,300]20 / 20 ~ A great piece of work! Every question answered and with enough detail. Brilliant analysis of your personality and a good mnemonic. (Is it just me or does your mnemonic sound a bit rude?)[/glow]

A girl with smooth brown hair up in a messy bun walked through the doorway and took a seat. She was very excited about this school year and this class. She began to do the assignment the teacher instructed her to do.
Skarlet M’orrigan Gryffindor
Astronomy- Astronomy is the scientific study of the universe and of objects which exist naturally in space, such as the moon, the sun, planets and stars. This evolves showing how they move and such it specially shows positions, dimensions, distribution, motion, composition, energy, and evolution of celestial bodies and phenomena
Astrology- movements and positions of the sun, moon, planets and stars, and the effect that these are believed to have on the character and behavior of humans. It’s basically the study of the positions and aspects of celestial bodies in the belief that they have an influence on the course of natural earthly occurrences and human affairs.
If I would have lived 3,000 years ago I would have had Pisces, now that I’m an Aires. I think both of these relate to me well, I’m stubborn i’ll admit but am a strong fighter and very independent. I do have a lot of emotions that I rarely express; I usually hide them under my surface until they have to come out. So basically I totally agree with my descriptions.
Mnemonic Device
• Mercury • Venus • Earth • Mars • Jupiter • Saturn • Uranus • Neptune • Pluto • • Muscular • Veela’s • Entrance • Men • Jump • Sideways • Until • Need-to • Plead
The girl in her clean uniform wrote on the C3 parchment. After she finished she sat back and waited for further instructions.
[glow=red,2,300]20 / 20 ~ A great piece of homework Skarlet. Great descriptions of Astonomy and Astrology that clearly show that you understand the differences between them. Detailed analysis of your zodiac and a relevent, interesting Mnemonic. Well done![/glow]

Silver pulled out the correct sized parchment from her corduroy bag and put her quill to it tentatively while thinking what to write. In a few moments, she was scrawling away.
Astronomy 101 - Silver Stillwater, Hufflepuff Student
Astrology and Astronomy are not the same thing at all - Astronomy is a more scientific study of the way planets and stars and so forth exist in space, whereas Astrology is the study of the movements of planets, stars, suns and moons, etc.
If I had lived 3000 years ago I would be a Leo. Currently I am a Virgo. Though these star signs are next to each other, the personality differences between the two are quite astonishing - a Virgo is patient, meticulous and hard-working; whereas a Leo is passionate, spontaneous and carefree. I think I am more like my Virgo counterpart that the Leo, though when I get on my broomstick I certainly feel carefree enough!

Silver giggled to herself at her mnemonic as she handed her parchment in.
[glow=red,2,300]19 / 20 ~ Great mnemonic - you are obviously creative with words! The zodiac description of yourself was very good. I would have liked to have seen you mention something about the movement of celectial bodies affecting lives etc. in your first question.[/glow]

Cassie watched as the other students placed their work on the teachers desk. Writing the last 2 words of her Mnemonic and scrawling her name on the top of the parchment, she sat back and read through what she had done.
Cassie Waters ~ Astrology 101 Hufflepuff
Astronomy is the science of planetary movements, such as those in our solar system and others, including galaxy movements.
Astrology is the study of how the movements of the planets and celestial bodies affect the lives of those here on Earth as well as their personalities.
During the times of the Babylonians, I would have been under the sign of Pisces. Now-a-days I am an Arien. I do not agree with most of the personality I am suppose to have. It says that I have a great passion for life; I do enjoy life but I would not say that. I do not think I am stubborn (most of the time) as it also says. I do have some goals however and would like to achieve them, but I quite often give up on them easily. I most agree with the idea that I am inventive and like a challenge - I love finding out how things work and solving problems.
Extra Credit:
Many Very Excellent Men Just Sat Under Norman's Plate
She was gald with her work and rose up to hand it in.
Smiling at Professor Astoria she left the classroom to go to her next class.
[glow=red,2,300]20 / 20 ~ A good piece of work! I like the mnemonic - very funny. A very good and detailed analysis of your personality. Your explanations of the differences in the first question made it clear that you can tell them apart. Well done.[/glow]

Rose walked into the Astrology excited and a little hyper about finally being in an Astrology class. Rose smiled brightly at everyone, which she didn't do very often. She too excited to let anything get her down today.
Rose sat at a seat in the front of the class. She pulled out a scroll after reading her textbook and began doing the assignment.
Blue Rose Slytherin House Astrology
Astrology The study of the movements of heavenly bodies such as stars, planets and how to use these movements to map out the character and behaviour of humans.
Astronomy The scientific study of the universe and things that naturally exist within. It is the study of how the universe works.
Three thousand years ago I would have been a Virgo but in this day and age I am a Libra. I somewhat agree with both, but I also recognize that I have more in common with Libras then I do Virgos.
I am a bit of a perfectionist and I think of myself as more of an earth element than an air element. But I also recognize that since my birthday is so close to the border line of being either a Virgo or a Libra and so this may attribute to some similarities I share with both while only being a Libra.
Mnemonic of the order of the planets from the Sun: Many Vibrant Emus March Just South Under the Nine Planets
Rose rolled the parchment up and layed it on the teacher's desk.
[glow=red,2,300]19 / 20 ~ I really like your mnemonic, I like that you actually used the word 'planets.' Good analysis of the differences in the definitions. I would have like to see more about your personality and its relation to your zodiac sign. Well done![/glow]

Rubbing the chalk off of the board she added, "I hope I'll see you all in my next class - it will be really easy and fun so as to ease you back into the new term!"
