At least the boy had made it through the beginning of the day. By now, he had met a few people (none of which he could fully understand what they were trying to say) and done a bit of socialising, and so grew an appetite for some cooked food. After around an hour, Kevin had worked out where to get the food, but not how. Still with his brown cloak over himself he made it into the Great Hall to find food, only to discover four long tables, and one right up the front of the room.
"Iontach…" the boy muttered under his breath. Just how was he supposed to get some food if he didn’t know how? Where were the servants? How much was the food? The second one payed a little more attention towards Kevin, and so once he had found a seat at the closest table (which happened to be Gryffindore) he asked the person across from him "Cá mhéad atá air?" Surely there would be someone around that would be able to understand what he was saying.
{Translation: Iontach: 'Great...' (sarcasm) Cá mhéad atá air?: 'How much is it?'}

Jacklyn was chatting with her friends when she saw a new guy sitting across from her asking, "Cá mhéad atá air?"
She sat there confused. Cá mhéad atá air?? What's he getting at? What does that mean??
"Hi!! Jacklyn's the name. Are you new? Do you speak English? Sorry, I don't understand you ..oh...and...ahh...I'll just stop," rambled Jacklyn blushing wildly.

Another one didn't understand what he was saying, it appeared. If she had, she'd probably have replied in Gaelic, and not in English. The girl flushed a deep red after obviously rambling, and Kevin breathed a heavy sigh. It seemed like there was only one person who could pick up on what he was saying, and even then she couldn't speak fluently. And like he had thought earlier, maybe it wasn't the best idea to come to Magic Horizons. "Ní thuigim English" he muttered under his breath.
He caught her gaze again, and pointed to her plate, and to some other people's plates with food on them, then rubbed his thumb against his forefinger and middle finger, implying monitory values with a raised eyebrow. If he couldn't ask how much it was in his language, he'd have to use the universal one. Body language.
{Translation: Ní thuigim English: 'I don't understand English.'

Sergi had decided that it finally was time to leave the safety of the Entrance Hall and start exploring some of the rooms that weren't too far from the only room in the Castle that he really knew. And yet, Sergi's curiosity was pricked when his nose caught the aroma of fresh food wafted in the hall that he currently was in. The black-haired boy followed the scent until he reached the source. So this must be the Great Hall, thought Sergi as he slowly strode into the Hall.
He noticed the four long tables that started from the entrance of the hall all the way to to where a table stood at the head of all of them. As Sergi walked up the aisles of the tables, he heard the conversations of other students that ranged from gossip to classwork. However, there was one voice that stood out from the rest of the crowd. The voice spoke only spoke in Gaelic, and only one person that the Russian boy knew could speak that language.
Sergi made his way over to where he heard the voice; careful to make sure that his glasses didn't fall off or anything as he headed toward his friend. Sergi finally saw Kevin sitting at one of the tables with a girl sitting across from him, and with a broad smile on his face, Sergi called out as he walked, "Comrade Kevin! Vhat a pleasure seeing you again! It is seeming that ve have just been meeting in the Entrance Hall, and now I am finding you vhere the food is being."
But Sergi caught what Kevin was trying to do when he noticed that Kevin was trying to communicate with the girl. Sergi placed his hand on Kevin's right shoulder and waited for his friend to turn around so that the Russian might be of some assistance.

"Oh! You want to know how much the food costs, right?" asked Jacklyn giving the scuba OK, which convenietly happens to be the universal OK sign, an O with the thumb and the index finger. "Well, the food's free!!" she said moving her hands around.
I hope he understands what I'm trying to say

If he was able to greet anyone in English, the boy would have. His down-fall, probably, that he didn't know any English. There were only a few words that he recognised, and they were 'Hey', 'Hi', and 'Hello', other than his name, and one of these was called from behind him. There was only one boy that had a voice and accent that Kevin knew of like the one being held by the words just spoken.
It was the boy called Sergi he had met in the Entrance Hall. Kevin twisted his upper half around to gaze up at the Russian with a bright smile. There was only one person in the world that he could relate to that he knew of, and that was the boy with his hand firmly placed on the Irish boy's shoulder. And as if he had grown accustomed to his welcomes, Kevin stood from his seat between the table and where he had been sitting, being almost the same height as Sergi (quite tall) and opened up his arms, accepting a welcome he recognised only from him.
"Damanta maith teacht le chéile tú, Sergi!" the boy exclaimed with a twinkling eye. Although Kevin knew that he couldn't understand what he was saying, it looked like he was there to help in any way, the same for the girl. "Er, canna tabhair isteach mise?" As he spoke for a third time, he pointed to his chest, meaning himself, then pointed to the girl across from them. At least now he had some friends..
"Scaoilte?" He asked with a raised, thick eyebrow towards the girl. Since when was anything free? Especially in a foreign country..
{Translation: Damanta maith teacht le chéile tú, Sergi!: 'Bloody good to see you, Sergi!' Cá mhéad atá bia?: 'How much is the food?' Er, canna tabhair isteach mise?: 'Er, can you introduce me?' Scaoilte?: 'Free?'}
{OOC: Woops, didn't see you there!}

Jacklyn watched the scene before her with an amused expression. She watched the two guys chat with each other, one looking a bit confused.
Scaoilte? I think I've heard that somewhere. Lyn, think!!! James has talked in Gaelic before. Ah ha!!! It means free!!
"Er...really, the food is scaoilte," said Jacklyn slowly for she could not pronounce it properly.

Once Kevin had gotten to his feet, Sergi embraced the boy while clapping him on the back (this time round being very gentle about it) and then let go as Kevin started to point at himself and then pointed to the girl. It took awhile, but in the end Sergi got the general idea of what Kevin wanted of him.
Turning so that he could see the girl, Sergi smiled down at her and said with his heavily accented voice, "It vould seem that my comrade here is vanting to know you. So I introduce, ja? But first I am needing your name, Miss...?"

Sergi nodded once he got the name of the girl in front of him, and now to try and tell Kevin. But Sergi was never one that was really good with sign language or anything like that; however the Russian boy did have a rather good memory. And it was with this memory of his that he could draw upon many things; one of them being the Gaelic words that Ondrea had used when introducing Haycee and Amaris to Kevin.
Closing his eyes, Sergi tried to remember the exact phrase that Ondrea had used to introduce them to Kevin. He remembered that the last word was the name of the person that one was introducing, but what was the beginning like? Several phrases passed through his head as Sergi thought more on it, and after awhile; Sergi had chosen what he believed to be the right phrase.
Looking Kevin in the eye, Sergi tried to speak as slowly and as clearly as his accent would allow. " Tá sí Jacklyn", said Sergi, who was nervous that he might have messed up the pronounication of the word and possibly ruined the introductions.
{Translation: Tá sí Jacklyn=She is Jacklyn}

At the news that the food was free by the nodding girl, Kevin smiled much more broadly. When one didn't have any money other than that in the bank of Ireland it was always good news to hear that it didn't cost anything to consume food. But then came the next question. Where was he supposed to get the food? When the time came to ask, it again passed him that they couldn't understand, and it was automatic for him to speak normally.
Sergi had indeed spoke Gaelic correctly when it came to introducing someone, apart from a few slackened accents, but Kevin could pick up what he was saying. Like he had done with the girls earlier, the boy swept himself into a bow, pressing his right arm across his waist and his left arm on his back the same way. "Kevin is ainm dom," he spoke deeply as he brought himself back up.
Next came his first question before he introduced himself. "Mar bia?" he asked whilst glancing and hinting towards all the other surrounding students' plates that were full or half-full with delicious looking food.
{Translation: Kevin is ainm dom: 'My name's Kevin'. Mar bia?: 'Where's the food?'.}

Jacklyn heard them talk and heard the guys name. Kevin. Hmm....nice name....
"Name's Kevin, ey?" asked Jacklyn smiling.
She saw him glancing towards all the other surrounding students' plates that were full or half-full with delicious looking food and got the hint.
"The plate in front of you is magical. Whatever you want to eat, it will pop out," said Jacklyn shrugging.

No matter what the girl had said, it didn’t make any sense to the Irish boy whatsoever, which was a real shame, because he wanted to know what it was she had uttered. He ran his hand through the brown fringe over his eyes and over the back of his head with a confused look across his face. How was he to know what she was saying?
The boy wove his fingers from both hands between each other and placed them behind his head as if they were a pillow and smiled awkwardly. "Eh, heh, ní thuigim," he said slowly, still forgetting that neither of them could understand him as much as he could understand them.
{Translation: Ní thuigim: 'I don't understand.'}

Sergi silently shook his head and a little smile was on his face. What a shame that Kevin was now going through what Sergi had experienced 4 months ago. Trying to learn English was very difficult, but at least Kevin was closer to his homeland so there had to be some people that understood what he was saying all of the time.
Stepping forward, Sergi picked up a napkin and daftly pulled a pencil from his pocket. Sergi quickly began drawing on the napkin with the pencil and within minutes his drawing was finished. It was an apple; a fruit that most would be able to recognize. Sergi pointed to the picture of the apple, and then tapped the side of his forehead. He did this a few more times to try and show Kevin that he had to think of the apple for it to appear on the plate.
Gently picking up Kevin's plate, Sergi closed his eyes and envisioned the apple appearing on the plate. When the black-haired boy opened his eyes, on the plate was a ripe, red apple. Sergi let out one of his broad smiles, and handed over the plate to his hungry friend. The Russian boy hoped that he had gotten the point across to Kevin, for if so; Kevin would be able to eat to his heart's content.

Jacklyn smiled. It was nice being friends with Kevin and er....what's his name? I'll ask him later.... thought Jacklyn.
"Hey! Do you either of you know what house you guys are sorted in yet?" Jacklyn asked interested.
