At least she was on her own. Lottie McCartney was sitting on a window ledge in the Owlery gazing out of the window to the full moon. She knew she wasn’t supposed to be there, but for weeks, she hadn’t been able to sleep. Her dreams had been of nothing but her now undead sister, and they got worse and worse by the night. Hugging her knees closer towards her, the freckled girl wondered if Ariana was okay, if she had written to their Ma yet to explain, if she was ever going to see her again.
For a moment, she considered going to the forest to try and find her twin. It was nighttime after all, and if anything she would be out and about hunting for something to eat… unless they had killed her since… no… of course they wouldn’t have done that. It had taken Lottie a few days to actually take in what Ari had told her – that she was a vampire now, and there was nothing anyone could do about it. But had she chosen to be sired? Or was it forced? What if she didn’t like it?
Once more, the girl’s dark brown eyes strayed to the door, wondering if she should go, or if she should stay put and let Ariana get on with her new life. “I’ve got to try and find her,” was the whispered eventual decision, but the slight girl couldn’t even find the energy, or the motivation to move. It could wait until tomorrow night, surely. For now, she would make the most of the silent isolation that she had granted herself.

Amelia entered the owlery with Piper, her owl. She had gone to the owlery so that she could post mail to her Mom. It was a very important letter that her owl would carry; one that would inform her witch mother and muggle father that she had been biten and turned into a Lycan!
But upon opening the door she had spotted a small girl sitting in the window. The girl looked very tired and scared and full of thought.
Amelia decided to go over to the girl and ask if she was ok; anything to put off posting this letter to her Mom and Dad! She approached the girl ever so quietly...one of her new skills she had acquired by becoming a lycan, she crept up behind the girl and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"what are you doing here? You ok?" she said into the girl's mind by accident. She had meant to say it out loud but her new powers sometimes took control over her. She hoped that she hadnt scared this small little girl as she had decided that even though she was a Lycan now that she would not go about terrifying every living thing.

Lottie hadn't even heard the girl approach, but she was sure she heard her speaking. In fact, she turned around before the final question was asked... and the girl's lips weren't even moving!
It took a while for the small brunette to figure out why. "Telepathy," she whispered, turning back to face the view outside the window. "I was just sending a letter, and I'm fine," Lottie replied, putting down shutters to keep the girl out. True, she had met Amelia a few days before in the Entrance Hall on her first day, but there was no point in telling her about Ariana.

Amelia's Lycan senses told her that something was up with the girl, which she now recognised to be Lottie...
"Lottie are you ok?"
Piper, her owl, flew off to the corner where a brown owl was eating. Amelia sat down beside Lottie, her senses going crazy...this girl was upset.
"You can tell me"

"I'm fine," Lottie answered, an almost cold tone to her usually pleasent and friendly voice. "Really, it's nothing, nothing at all, everything's great," she continued, trying to get herself to believe that at the same time as attempting to put the point across to her Ravenclaw friend.
Pulling her knees up, the young, slightly freckled girl put her arms around them, as though putting a barrier between herself and reality. Vampires weren't real, so how could Ariana have been sired? She just wasn't feeling very well that night, that was all. How could she have thought it was real, there was no possible way. Vampires were stuff of fairytales.
"Vampires aren't real," Lottie whispered, quietly enough that it was doubtful Amelia would hear her, even though she was sitting on the windowsill right behind her.

Amelia's new lycan senses meant that she had extremely good hearing, so good in fact that all the noise made her head ache. She shuffled closer to Lottie hoping that her presence would help to calm the poor small girl.
She sighed as she felt Lottie's feelings of confusion...she frowned as these new Lycan senses were still so new and strange to her, but she decided to try and put them to good use.
"I know you are confused....so what exactly happened to Ariana?"

"I... How... What..." Lottie started, her voice starting to choke and her brown eyes opening wide as she turned to face Amelia, an expression of shock on her face. "How did you know?"

Amelia could have hit herself! How could she be so stupid to drop herslef in it like this? And especially to a little girl who was upset as her sister had been turned into a different kind of creature of the night.
She decided that she ought to tell Lottie straight, as she knew that she was a terrible liar.
"well...erm..since we last met I kinda had an accident with a Lycan...it bit my arm off...well as you can see I had it grown back at the hospital wing...its just that the bite...er...." She hadn't told anyone about her being turned into a Lycan yet and was finding it harder than she had imagined..."Well I am kinda a Lycan now..."
She stood up knowing full well that the scared little girl would not like her news

Lottie's eyes opened even wider at hearing this. Was it just her, or was nearly everyone she knew being turned into someting else? No... Ariana was still okay, she was still human, vampires weren't real! But Lycans? Were they?
Shaking her head violently, the small girl stood up also. "No, you can't be!" she almost shouted, before running towards the door. It wasn't true, none of it. All of this was just one big nightmare!

Lottie froze in her steps when the voice once again sounded in her mind, as far away as it had seemed before. However it wasn't a scared freeze, but more of a hopeful one.
"What do you mean?" the young freckled girl asked, not turning around to face the other girl.

Ooops....had Amelia just made a promise that she wouldnt be able to keep?
"Well I'm not sure...as I have only been a Lycan for a few hours!! But what if I could find her so you could speak? And dont worry...I would be there to protect you in case things got hairy!"
She smiled at the choice of words knowing full well that the only thing that would turn hairy was her

Lottie turned around and blinked several times at the other girl in the owlery. Would she be able to find Ari? Would Ari still speak to her?
"Really?" the brunette girl asked quietly, not even a shadow of her usual self, yet some of her usual twinkle returning to her brown eyes. Could she trust Amelia?

Amelia felt the girl's doubt as if it was her own emotion. This felt weird to her and she wondered how long it would be before she finally got used to her new lycan senses...
"Lottie...please...I know you are upset and worried...but you can trust me. I will do anything I can to help you. You are the first person I met on arrival here...and you were so nice to me...I'm just returning the favor"
Amelia wondered how long it would be before her Lycan half started taking over more and making her meaner!!

Lottie looked directly into the other girl's eyes, as though searching for a lie in them, yet she could find nothing but truth written behind them. Truth, worry and friendship. But a lycan? She had never met them before, but after hearing Amelia's story of how one bit her arm off, it didn't exactly help her relax any.
"Okay," Lottie decided eventually, after a long pause where she was trying her best to decide what would be best, but missing her twin took over quicker than she would have liked. A lot quicker.
