Lars opened the door to the owlery with Samus in his big golden cage. “Samus, it will be your job to make sure this letter reaches mom and dad,” he said talking to his pet owl. Lars reached into his pocket and pulled out a piece of paper with a lot of writing on it. “Do you want to hear what it says?” Lars asked to his owl.
“Dear Family
I have reached Magic Horizons safely. I am missing you every passing hour. I am glad to tell you that I made some new friends! I have been keeping my reading up, so please don’t worry. Everything is safe so far and it is not evil. Please don’t be mad. Write back!
Love always, Lars,” Lars read out loud to Samus.
“Okay remember to bring this to the family” he repeated to his owl. He took his owl and gave him the letter. “Now fly, fly like the wind Samus,” Lars yelled out. After Samus was out of sight, he picked up the birdcage. “Please accept me again” Lars said under his breath.

Lorne didn't own an owl himself, but the Owlery was one of the places in the school that he hadn't been to yet, and he didn't mind observing the birds. So today, a couple of days after his arrival back at the school, he found himself climbing the stairs that led up to the Owlery.
Once inside, he glanced around interestedly, observing the many wire cages that decorated the room, and the many types of birds that graced them. Something else caught his attention as well. Another boy was standing at one of the open windows, apparently just after sending a letter off, for Lorne could make the dark shape of the owl winging its way into the distance.
He didn't know the other boy, but that wasn't really surprising. He hadn't been back long, and really, he hadn't been at the school that long even before he'd left on vacation.
Never one to be shy, Lorne hardly hesitated before approaching the window and giving the other boy a crooked smile in greeting. "Hiya, I'm Lorne," he offered cheerfully, shaking his hair out of cobalt-blue eyes.

“Oh hi. It is not really private, I already told some other students,” Lars said with a faint smile. “Wow, you’re the only one that I know that can do that,” he said kind of amazed. Is that your owl?” he asked gesturing to the owl that she has been talking to. He looked around to see various species of owls. “Well if you were able to hear everything I said, then you know that the owl that just flew out of the window is mine,” Lars said, thinking about her able of hearing everything.
“Huh,” Lars said hearing another voice. Then he saw boy walking behind the girl he had been chatting to. “Oh hi,” he said in the sight of this boy. Getting tired of holding the heavy cage, he sat it down on the floor near his feet. ”Lorne is it?” he asked even knowing the answer. “Sorry for not introducing myself. I am Lars Claybourne,” he said quietly.

"Oh, sorry, didn't see you there," Lorne apologized to the girl, whom he hadn't noticed before, with a little wave of his hand.
"Pleased to meet you, Lars," the blond-headed boy continued with a smile, and his glance included both Lars and the girl, whose name he didn't know, in his next question. "So, what House are you in?"
It was a pretty standard, almost overused, inquiry; still, it always seemed to help as far as starting up a conversation with a new acquaintance went. And really, a House could say a bit about a person...

“Nice to meet you too Lorne,” Lars said politely. Lars closed the window to stop the cool breeze from coming in. “Oh I’m in hufflepuff,” Lars said proudly. “Which house are you both in” he asked to both of them.
“So do you own an owl?” he asked Lorne. Lars leaned against the wall to take pressure off of his feet. “What time is it?” he asked looking for his watch. “I must of left mine in my trunk” Lars said quietly.
“What’s your name?” Lars asked the girl. “I heard that there are lycans and vampires around. Is that true?” Lars asked frightened.

"Half past two, and the rumours are all too true," a voice came from the door to the owlery as a fifteen year old girl walked inside the room, a rolled up piece of parchment in her hand. Brushing aside some stray blonde hair, Hayzie gave the small grounp a smile. "There's no need to be frightened of them, though," the green eyed girl continued, her eyes sparkling a bit as she sensed what he was feeling with both her Lycan senses, and through the tone of his voice.
"They only bite when you annoy them enough."
Walking over, Hayzie's smile faltered a little before it made a reappearence. It seemed she didn't know any of those standing in the Owlery, or at least if she had she couldn't remember them. "Hayzie Roberts, it's a pleasure."

"Oh, really? I'm in Hufflepuff, too," Lorne replied, grinning at Lars. He opened his mouth again to answer Lars's questions regarding the time and vampires and lycans, but a feminine voice beat him to it. He turned to see a blonde girl stride in, greeting the two boys and one girl already there with a smile.
At her remark about the lycans and vampires only biting when you annoyed them, he flashed a grin, but the expression was just a tad uncertain. He'd heard tales of students being bitten before, after all...
Shaking the thought away, he turned back to the green-eyed girl. "I'm Lorne," he introduced himself again, with a warm smile in greeting. "Hufflepuff, if you hadn't heard." Then he turned to Lars and said, "Actually, one of our Prefects, Ace is a vampire...the Vampire King. But he's alright," he added quickly, not wanting to make the other boy nervous.

Lars was about to reply to Lorne when another voice said something. “Huh, oh hi. Half past two you say?” Lars asked to the approaching girl. “So lycans and vampires walk these very halls. Are there many?” he asked. Lars was frightened with knowing that monsters were all around him. “Well I never believed in monsters, but now I have to believe in them. So it does kind of scare me,” he said quietly.
“What annoys them?” Lars asked, frightened. Lars skin turned pale, his heart beat faster, and that made him more scared. “Lars Claybourne,” he said to Hayzie.
“Great, I finally met a male hufflepuff,” Lars said truthfully. “Vampire!” Lars said concerned. “I never heard of Ace. Are you joking?” Lars said, shaking. “Vampire king. That does not make me fell any better,” Lars added.

"It is nice to meet you Lars, my name is Neewaska you may call me Nee if you wish, I am a Slytherin, I have no owl, and its nice to meet you both,"Nee said to Lorne and Hayzie, finishing all the questions she had received as smoothly as she could manage. "Don't worry about it Lars, they won't bother you if you don't bother them, but you should probably stay away from there territory."She told him.

“It is nice to meet you to Neewaska. Yeah I guess I will call you Nee, because will be easier for me,” Lars said politely. Lars looked around the room to see a strange looking owl in a silver cage. Laws took the birdfeed he had in a little pouch of his puke green pants. “Slytherin, didn’t they win the house cup last year? Oh, umm d you have even have a pet?” he asked Nee
“Okay, I will try to stay away from their territory, but I might stumble upon it. Hopefully not though,” Lars said looking down at his shoes. “Has anyone of you seen a lycan, or a werewolf at that matter?” Lars asked in a nervous voice.

“Never had a pet,” Lars said, almost not believing it. Lars loved pets, but he never had more than one at one time. “Well you should get one. Maybe an owl or a cat might be good. I had a cat, but at when I was seven and a half, it went missing,” Lars said, still having a hard time believing that someone never had a pet. “I knew they won. I heard some kids talking about it when I was going to the hufflepuff common room.
“Hayzie,” he said frightfully. Lars turned around and paid full attention to the girl that just walked in. ‘I’m sorry if I annoyed you and if I start to annoy you, just tell me to stop,” Lars said pressing his back against the cold wall. Lars was very scared knowing that he had been talking to a lycan. “Do you bite? I mean have you bitten anyone before?” Lars asked.

“Ah I get it. So pretty much the wild is your pet. Are you afraid if you get a pet that it may die?” Lars asked thoughtlessly. Lars never believed in having the wild as your pet. The reason for that is the animals will never have a name, and he would never be certain that the animal that he fed or talked to will almost never be the same.
“Unicorns? This place has unicorns too?” Lars asked curiously. “Well I guess if they have monsters, I mean lycans and vampires, they could have unicorns. It would be nice to see an unicorn,” Lars said fascinated. “Well I guess I have a lot to write to my family next time,” he said with a toothy grin. “Are there like demons, or devils?” Lars asked very curiously.
