He really did understand, someone really understood her.
When the girl had found out about the death in the caravan those ... six years ago now ... she had retreated, isolated herself and become cold, hating the world and determined to get the better of it and everyone in it. Since her death, and her acceptance in MH, the girl had become a more tender, caring person.
Just there was occasion when she felt as angry as she had the day the news had arrived.
"There is something about stars that makes me feel like we're all in this together, the living, dead, undead and everyone. Like the universe doesn't care what we do, but somehow we're determined to make it care."
The ghost leant on the sill, her arms sinking a few inches in, and looked up at the sky.
"They're something to strive to reach, and an equeliser. Under the stars, it doesn't matter who or what we are, and in the world, people judge almost completely on what you do or don't do." She looked at the vampire before turning back to the nightly blackness.
"We all need something to lean on." She muttered, looking down at the sill that was growing frost around her arms. "Or someone."

Ace saw the dawning light of discovering someone who understood in her eyes - he had seen that look so often in the lonely, damned and confused, and oddly, it touched him.
He glanced over at Ondrea, who was watching the tentative exchange between Vampire and ghost. Even though she, as a human, was not chained irrevocably to a half-life, he still sensed that there was something she was missing, or missed, from her own existence. Though really, he thought in a moment of blinding abstraction, Aren't we all here to be searching...?
"Do either of you have anything - or anyone - to lean on?" asked Ace curiously, flicking back a strand of hair that kept falling into his eyes. It had been a while since he had had the chance to talk this personally with anybody, and it was a strange comfort to Ace's spirit to sit here with these two strangers and listen to their own problems instead of dwelling on his own.

She shook her head in answer.
"A sword half buried in the forest, I don't go there anymore. It's bad taste to visit your own grave, I think. No, I don't have anyone." Any more.
She had always hated the idea before, needing help, and even, just before she had been transferred here, she had developed the idea that no one else really needed help either.
These days she was holding up so many people, and helping so much, it was exhausting.
The phantom shook her head again, dismissing the uncomfortable feeling that came with those thoughts.
"What about you? Or don't you want to talk about it?" She asked the handsome vampire, turning away from the stars and removing her arms from the rock window sill.

Ace thought about the question for a moment before answering. Yes, he had people that surrounded him on a daily basis, even had people who adored him on demand... but he never leaned on anybody. He had, once upon a time, and it had earned him nothing but a strange ache in his heart that no Vampire should ever be permitted to feel.
"No, I don't suppose that I do," he said softly. "Have anyone, I mean. I always seem to be the leaning post for everybody I know - but I don't mind. Depending upon anybody for your happiness is a surefire way of getting hurt."
He relaxed back against the stone wall, looking at Shae with centuries of knowledge in his heavy green gaze. He looked to Ondrea, who had been silent for some time, wondering if the girl would speak, or whether she had been silenced by the presence of two immortals.

Ondrea was a bit spaced-out for awhile, but tuned in when Ace asked her and Shae, if they had anyone to lean on. Instead of answering, she decided to listen to them talk, and then she would answer.
Ondrea started to feel bad for Shae and Ace, no one to depend on... well she had been that way for quite the amount of time, in a way she still was. Her younger sister had recently arrived at MH, after Ondrea hadn't seen her for years, a long with the rest of her dead family. However Ondrea didn't feel that she depended on her sister, because she spent most of her time worrying about her sister, protecting her, making sure she didn't kill herself. Ondrea would never speak of her own problems, it was better just to keep them locked inside.
As for Ondrea and friends, she tried to avoid meeting people whom she couldn't resist but to care for, the reason for this was because of the fear of loosing them, or being hurt. Perhaps this was another reason why she sometimes tried to be distant from her own sister. However all of her friends she would never lean on them, she didn't mind of being of some help to them though.
Shrugging Ondrea looked at Shae then at Ace, "Some would say since that I have a sister, I have someone to lean on. Others would say that I don't... but the reason for that needs a long explanation."

The ghost laughed quietly at Ondrea, but sympathied completely with Ace.
"Crutches, we all have to give them up eventually." The phantom let out a small sigh, and seemed to look inward.
"Or some way we're going to get hurt." Then she came out of her revire.
"Oh! This is getting altogether too depressing. How did we get from the beauty of the sky at night to crutches?"
The girl shook her head at her own folly and pulled the ruffles out of her clothes.
"Excuse me, I'm going up for some fresh air."
They were already in the highest room in the astronomy tower, but the girl just went up through the roof, a frost patch below marking where she sat above.

OOC- Sorry, I won't be here for a week
BIC- Ondrea knew that she would get some sort of reaction, and she fully expected to have someone to laugh at what she said, and Shae did. Ondrea smiled at Shae, Poor Shae, she has to continue living, when she is dead; and Ace, he has to deal with being a vampire, that would be hard... Ondrea thought to herself.
When she looked around, she noticed that Shae had said something a long the lines of, 'excuse me...' Ondrea saw her go threw the roof, "and that's the up-side." she whispered so quietly, that human ears would probably not hear what she was saying.

The ghost ran a hand through her hair, brushing some of the purple strands out of her face, and looked up at the stars. The view from the roof was better.
She sat on the roof, resting her elbows on her knees and just looked up.
How long had it been since she just watched the stars dance across the sky? Far, far too long.
The ethereal girl let out a sigh, almost self-disgusted, if there was such a word, but it seemed to fit how she felt.
The girl shifted so that she was sitting cross-legged near the edge of the roof, rather than leaning against the roof's central spire.
From her place, her words drifted down through the window below her.
"I'm sorry, I just don't like talking about death as if it never happened to me, or as if it's the worst thing that did. I didn't mean to be rude." She said, as some of her purple locks drifted through the roof. In, then out again.

~ ooc: Much appreciated, girls
~ bic:
Ace watched the interaction between ghost and girl with interest - he had never been in the company of a human and a spectral being at the same time, and had never before seen how the ignorance of the living and the jaded perspective of the dead jarred each other so irreconciliably.
"In my humble opinion, death is one of the easiest experiences this universe offers," he said, leaning back, arching against the cold curve of the stone window. His tone was light, but his words were thoughtful and well-chosen. "In life, the only guarantee you ever have is death. You spend your whole life fearing the only thing that is certain for everyone, and yet when it comes... it's just like letting go. And you find yourself floating in this eternity of safe, warm, nothingness..."
Suddenly the Vampire's eyes lost their clouded look and he turned to look directly at Ondrea. "Of course, after that is a mystery to me. For me, life began again, as it did in a sense for Shae - but death, the passage of dying, is one of the safest, most rewarding experiences I have ever had."
He fell silent, only now realising that his view on death might not be shared by the ghost on the roof above.

Yes, dying was the only certain thing, and it was easy enough to die.
"Mm." She mused, resting her chin in her hand, and her elbow on her knee.
"My death wasn't easy, but being dead is quite liberating once you get the hang of it." She said, falling back to lie on the roof.
It took her a second to realise she had fallen back and was now lying through the roof. It was the sight of her pale purple hair in front of her, floating through the roof that really made her realise.
The phantomess had fallen into a bit of a dream state up on the roof.
"Oh, wuf." She said to herself, slightly peeved that she couldn't do anything so normal as rest on some roof tiles.

Ondreas eyes lingered upon each star, that was somehow different from the other, but they were loosing their touch of ability to amuse Ondrea. As she listened to them talk about death, she thought it over also, as she did often. Death was always a comfort for her, sometimes thinking it would be easier to die then to live, and even though she was sad when someone had passed on, she felt some sort of comfort, knowing that for once she could be sure that they weren't suffering.
"Well I haven't yet had the experience of death, therefore I can not really put much input into the subject. I just think it is over-all a comforting thing." Ondrea said, shrugging slightly.
Now joining in on the silence, she looked up to Shae, who looked as if she had fallen through the roof, and seemed to be annoyed, That must suck... That would be so annoying if you couldn't even sit without falling. Ondrea thought to herself, looking back at the stars, that were growing to bore her.

Ace's green eyes wandered to Ondrea, who sat on the floor so dully, and smiled as her few short words gave him a window into her mind... death as the final option. For most people, death was an unfortunate inevitability. But for some - some like Ondrea - death was actually an option on their list. When all else fails, death will provide comfort.
Ace shook his tousled head, forbidding certain thoughts from entering his mind, although he did allow himself the one quick mental image of his fangs sinking into her neck before returning to his own more passive state.
He returned his gaze to the window, thinking it probably not best to look at Ondrea right now.
"So, girls, does your night end here, or do you have plans elsewhere?" said Ace jovially, in an attempt to lighten the mood.

The ghost smiled slightly at Ace's attempt to lighten the mood, but she just couldn't seem to lighten with him.
Damn that, she was going to try to cheer up at least.
"I don't make plans for nights. Nights make plans for me, and they don't really end, I think, they just get pushed off by the sun for a while. If you look hard enough, you can still see the night in the day." She said, swinging her body around so that she was once again fully inside the tower.
"I'll go and rest for a while when the sun comes up, or try to rest at least, until then, I have nothing to do." The dead girl added, answering the vampire's question.
