Kage nodded, "Yes, the Mad Hatter is quite interesting, or, as he says, Curiouser and Curiouser." He watched Vivian, watched her watch him.

Kage looked around, "I would be, if I had a hat..." He said mildly.

It was far too tempting to do something nice, though Vivian, in all honesty, was afraid to. What if she did something stupid, messed up, and made herself look like an idiot? She'd never been the most eloquent or graceful person, and everything she did, everything she said, backfired in some way, whether that be minute or huge.
Viv didn't know the story of Alice in Wonderland, but she did know that it was a muggle tale, so the hat in question was probably not the kind that some schools had as part of the uniform. She doubted it was a baseball cap, or a wide brimmed straw hat. No, Vivian pictured it instead as a fancy top hat, the kind from the story. The red haired girl had always been excellent on picturing something from little information, probably because she was so interested in art.
Sighing deeply, she watched the two of them, allowing herself to smile softly behind the mask of hair. Pulling out her wand with her left hand, she pointed at his forehead, muttered something under her breath, and a hat appeared atop Kage's head, remarkably similar to the kind that the Mad Hatter from the story wore, even though she'd never heard it before.
Vivian wanted to see the little girl smile, wanted to play a game of make believe, wanted to remember what it was like to be that young and carefree. If she could have taken all those years back and changed everything, she would have, but too much time had passed to reverse it all. She was entirely stuck.
"Th-there's y-y-your hat..." Viv mumbled under her breath, looking away and blushing slightly. She'd never been that good at doing nice things, rather at having nice things done for her. Carefully wrapped in soft velvety fabric buried carefully within her trunk, was a treasure carved out of stone, specially for her, by a friend. It was time she repayed someone for all the kindness that she'd seen since she came here. As for all the cruelty before that... well, that would go to someone who deserved it. Not a guy who seemed like a decent person and an innocent child.

Kage smiled as he tipped the hat at a rakish angle on his head. "Thank you, Vivian." He said softly, reaching across the table to touch her arm gently, to show his thanks.

By the time the "Thank you" actually reached her ears, it was already too late. Vivian was severely afraid of conversation, yes, but her fear of contact when far above that. She remembered when a hug upon her arrival had nearly caused her a panic attack, and other similar instances throughout her life. Outside of family, she was only really comfortable around two people, who were close enough to her and she trusted enough to allow them to even come near her. Viv was somewhat paranoid that even the slightest signs of friendliness could begin to convince her to trust those that didn't deserve it, so they could unwittingly learn everything they needed to sucessfully exploit her. Branden's actions seemed to validate her fear, though Betta had proved a more than true friend thus far.
Vivian snapped her arm back, cradling it almost like it'd been hurt. Her face and body were both rigid for a long moment, and if she was breathing, it was impossible to see the rise and fall of her shoulders and she pushing air in and out of petite torso. Finally, she took in a deep, shaky breath, coughing softly into her overlong sleeve, her eyes bulging almost comically. Her fair skin had drained of what little color had been there before, but it slowly began to return. Rubbing absently at the skin on her arm, she rocked slowly back and forth, not blinking, her untamed hair now hanging forward in her face and concealing it to below her chin.
"Y-you're wwwelcome..." she mumbled, not turning to face him again. Vivian wondered for a moment if she should explain that she didn't like to be touched, but decided against it. That would just give him ideas, at least, in her reasoning, and she didn't want him to have any more insights into her mind than he already had. Most people would believe that she was just some sociophobic freak for no real reason. Her mind wasn't exactly in the best state, in truth, but there was an underlying cause that she was determined not to reveal at all costs, at least, not to anyone else. She'd made enough mistakes. Now was time to start sticking to her plans, listening to her own advice, and most of all, keep herself safe from the world.

Kage blinked, momentarily taken aback by the speed of her jerk. He then realized the error he had committed, "Im sorry Vivian." Kage said, eyes fixated on a point on the table. He could only imagine how she must feel right now, the terror, the pain.

Vivian felt mortified at his reaction to her sudden movement, blushing an angry crimson that she hid carefully behind her hair. Still, patches of her skin were visible and exposed the fact that she as embarrassed, and she looked away, feeling rather sick to her stomach. How could she be such an idiot like this, always acting like a fool for everyone to laugh at? Maybe they'd leave her alone if she wasn't such a bumbling baffoon, or if she'd just stick up for herself in some other way than retreating back into her own mind.
"N-n-n-no th-that's okay y-y-you wwwouldn't know..." she managed to choke out, all her words run together. Viv glanced back towards him, looking at his face for a moment and feeling more terrible. Surely word would have gotten around about a weirdo like her, but of course, she often found herself in the company of vampires and lycans, so maybe she didn't stand out as much. Vivian wished that she didn't have to deal with all these people who weren't used to a person like her. When would they stop trying to reach out and just leave her alone? It wasn't like she hadn't made it obvious that was what she wanted, at least, what she thought she did.
"I-I-I'm sssorry. I j-just d-d-don't like to b-be touched..." Sighing softly, she glanced again to the little girl, wondering if she would have any idea what was going on with the strange older girl she'd decided to talk to. Such innocence, the likes of which Vivian hadn't seen in years. Exhaling a deep breath, she relaxed slightly, her face returning to a nearly normal shade of pale peach. Her movements were a little less jerky though her hands still trembled. Sitting up slightly, she reached for the pumpkin juice that she'd abandoned. While it was somewhat warm, it still was refreshing, easing a little bit of the dry sensation in her mouth and calming her stomach.

Kage sighed deeply, "Stop it." He said. His eyes rose, to capture hers in a piercing gaze. "Stop putting yourself down because you think its your fault people arent used to you. Stop believing its your fault whenever you react a certain way. Stop." Kage stressed this 'Stop', "Trying to build a shield that you think will keep the world out forever, because it wont Vivian. The world is full of many things, both good and bad. Sometimes, if you didnt experience the bad things, it wouldnt make the good things so great." Kage said softly, once again looking at his hands, which were laying upon the tabletop.

He didn't know her, he didn't understand, he had no clue. What right did Kage think he had to tell her what to do? It didn't work that way. Vivian just couldn't stop being the way she was on command. Things weren't that simple, because if they were, she'd be one of those pretty popular girls spending their days doing nothing but giggling and laughing and having a good time. It was as much of a curse as a blessing that she had a head on her shoulders, with a mind that cared to think about things other than stupid frivalous thoughts that meant nothing, and actually apply knowledge to make herself into something. Maybe she wasn't an extrovert, maybe she couldn't deal with people. But that didn't mean that she was doing anything wrong. It was the world's fault for forcing herself to act this way.
"Y-y-you d-don't know m-me..." she began uneasily, looking away and beginning to rock again, curling up her legs on the seat below her skirt, locking herself into a little ball. If she wanted to be so juvenile, she would have just clasped her hands over her ears and refused to listen, because he was wrong.
"Y-y-you don't kn-know what it-it's like. N-n-not everyone's br-brave enough to-to sssay stop..." Vivian was about ready to just stand up and run, get away from him, get away from a voice of reason. She didn't want to hear this, didn't want to bother trying to comprehend his perspective. She had better things to do with her time than listen to people try to change who Viv was and had chosen to be. It was none of their business, and yet, everyone seemed to be on some crusade. It wasn't okay to be different, it wasn't okay to be scared and passive because people would take advantage of that. She really didn't care to feel anything, whether that be good or bad. It wasn't her responsability to have an epiphany and suddenly change her ways whenever someone told her to. In some respects she was quite submissive, but as to her behavior, she was stubborn as a mule.
Hiding her face in her hands, she tryed to hide from it all, tempted to cast some charm to plug her ears so she didn't have to listen to all this.

Kage sat there silently, then calmly smacked his forehead on the table. "You're right, I dont. Its not my place to try and tell you what you should do with your life, thats your choice." Kage said, flushing slightly with embarressment.

It wasn't hard for Vivian to send a convincing glare at someone. Her eyes were so violently blue that any little fluctuation in her face was magnified by ten, making her exceedingly easy to read. Hiding her face was one way to stop that, but in the end, it all came to the same conclusion. People realized her flaws, exploited them, they laughed a little, she got embarrassed, and then for the most part, things went back to normal. She was fine with mum and dad around. No kid in their right mind would dare say some of those things in front of the socially elite, people that had more power to do what they wanted than most other people in the wizarding world. However, certain other people were an entirely different story.
"G-g-good that we-we're on the sssame p-page," she said stuffily, nodding her head and adjusting her skirt absentmindedly. She stretched out her legs below the table, sitting comfortable again and carefully looking away from Kage, instead gazing at Bubbles. Vivian was so caught up in her musing that she didn't really catch her speak beyond hearing that she'd said something.
Shaking her head softly, she blinked twice and looked up, furrowing her brow. Viv tried to pick out what the girl might have said but failed.
"E-excuse m-m-me, wh-what did y-you ssay?" she asked quietly, sitting a little straighter and looking remarkably taller, but maybe that was just in comparison to the 3 year old sitting across from her. This was horribly awkward, and Vivian definitely was not in her element right now. Of course, when she was around people it was almost a given that she was uncomfortable, so in some ways, she was feeling somewhat normal now. Anything could become routine over time. From waking up and eating breakfast to waking up and starving. People just got used to things, over time. However, Viv was far too used to the way things were now to ever change them again.
Staring icily at Kage again, she decided to merely ignore his presence unless he decided to leave her alone again.

Kage calmly returned her glare, sensing it for what it was, he calmly looked back with an air of indifference, as if to say, 'So what?'
